I don't care, however I humored you. Unfortunately my point sailed over your head like the cow flying over the moon. I am too effing tired to try again. Popularity doesn't mean good. Ecks three was total shite. Talk about important, not p***s size analagous things plz. Luff for real conversation.

It seems like we are on the same point, you would just rather take not-so-subtle shots at me, for whatever reason. Im not an AMC noob.

Yes, X3 was s**t. It opened on a holiday weekend also. So why did it make more money than Superman? Bad marketing? Not enough general appeal to the new crowd? At its most basic, I believed that more people would go see a Superman movie than an X-Men movie, no matter how good or bad they were.

Lets knock off the mock insults and half-a** net'speak please. Lets have a honest conversation here.

I'm not sure what part of "too tired to try again" you didn't understand. I don't care about box office numbers. I care about movies being good. If you want to talk about something worthwhile regarding the movie, please do. Was the collar too high for you? Did you like Spacey? These are important things I am interested in. I repeat, the box office can bite me and die.

Really, I think Babs hit the nail on the head.

The masses are more into the "dark," "realistic" and "gritty" stories, a la X-Men and Batman. If you take even a casual look at the CD, folks love the X-Men, Spidey and Bats, but think Superman is boring. Odds are, less people are going to see Superman because they think it will be boring. It's not that they acually know anything about Superman, or have read Superman stories, it's just the received opinion.

Also, it may be entirely the fault of the inflatable Superman muscle suit toy. I hate that thing so hard. mad

Most of my favourite movies didn't do that well at the Box Office or win any Oscars. I like the Super Mario movie, for heaven's sake.

I will skip to the cinema with a song in my heart to see Superman Returns, because I love Superman. If it's not doing that well at the Box Office, that means I won't have to wait in line.

I think you may be right. Singer brought some of that "realistic" storytelling, and the sets/costume had a "dark" and "gritty" look to them, but it didnt really come across in the TV spots. The TV spots wavered between portraying the movie as a love story, and portraying the movie as an action movie, and the spots really didnt do either sucessfully.

Also impacts how much they are willing to spend on a sequel.

True. Really, what the commercials seemed to get across is, "this is gonna look cool as s**t!" The problem with the Superman Returns commercials seems to be that they are centered around the idea of THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN, which is problematic if not so many folks care that he was gone or is returning. If the commercials were centered around, "Hoshit Superman is gonna blow s**t up!" we'd probably be seeing a bigger draw.

I also think that the land-grab plan hurt the movie. If they had thrown Superman up against something majorly awesome (or killed him outright like I had wished for a script for a while ago), and teased accordingly in the previews, it may have garnered more interest.

They spent a helluva lot on marketing. I think they even outdid KONG. I saw Superman Returns potatoe chips, soft drinks, hell everything!
