A-trekking through the woods I go!
Troll: Etsali Azeban (8/10)
Inventory: gerbils, knife, potato sack

Location: Treacherous Trench
Choice Picked: A
Item Used: knife

Mushroom Count: 10

Etsali was just starting down into the foothills and leaving the outpost behind when the yip caught her attention. She paused, head tilting as she tried to place what could possibly make that sound, and turned to look back. It took her a moment to place the troll waving to her, but then she lit up, raising an arm to wave back enthusiastically. That was right, Vulpin lived out here on the plains, of course he'd come to check things out at the Jubilee! It looked like he'd decided to go up the other path, so she let her hand drop and turned back to her own with a grin. She'd catch up with him at the end of the game for sure.

The path around the foothills was longer than she'd anticipated, and as she passed out of sight of the Outpost, she realized it was going to be a lot less relaxing than she'd hoped too. It wasn't long at all before she had to start really watching her steps, moving down carefully lest she fall and get hurt. There weren't as many plants here, as she moved down into the trench, and she was just beginning to puzzle over what had carved the space out when another loud sound caught her attention.

It only took a quick glance to see the large rock coming at her and realize how much danger she was in. Shifting her grip on her things to make sure it would fall, she made a break for the mountainside, searching for some space she could slip into to let the rock pass her by harmlessly. The trip down into the trench had been so steep that she didn't want to risk full on running back uphill, but there had to be somewhere...!

What a lovely starry night! Oh look, I see ...
Troll: Lorata Gorgos

Lorata couldn't remember the last time she'd seen so many stars, if she ever even had. Moonlight reached her hive well enough beneath the waves, but a clear view of the stars didn't tend to come with it. When she surfaced to venture out into the world, it was usually nearer to the city, where light pollution made the point moot regardless. But out here on the plains, with every little celebration urging trolls to look up at the moons and be grateful, she found herself drawn to soaking in the sight. A whole ocean of stars was spread out above her, and she had nothing but time to lay here and look up into it.

There were probably tons of trolls that could have named every star above them at a glance, but Lorata had only ever taken the time to learn some of the constellations, more out of interest in the stories behind them than a need for technical information. If the sky was an ocean, these were the statues to be collected and admired, legendary heroes right there for every troll to see. She wasn't always terribly good at finding them quickly (because she was taking her time and not because she couldn't remember, of course), but that was alright, because her favorite was also the easiest to spot.

And yes, there they were! Three stars shining brightly, the middle raised a little higher than the others. There were other stars in between them to complete the proper shape, of course, but they were relatively faint. Pythea's Fin! Lorata lifted an arm to trace it and caught a glimpse of movement at her side that was one of MeduMa's heads twisting to look. She liked the other constellations a lot, no matter how whimsical their tale, but this one was the best because she was pretty sure it represented a real hero, a seadweller so great that they'd gone right past statues and gotten their name immortalized in the stars!

Back when space travel had still been new, ages and ages before they'd lost the technology, Pythea had been the captain of many of the very first missions to other worlds. They had been the greatest leader under the Queen's command, and it was said that they had personally trained every member of their forces to their utmost potential before ever allowing their ships to leave the ground. Some of the stars were even named after the most loyal of their officers, pulled to fame in the wake of their captain's greatness!

Every star in Pythea's Fin was said to be a system that the seadweller had personally conquered in the name of Alternia, paving the way for the vast numbers of victories to come after. Because of this, and because the stars' position in the sky meant that they never really seemed to move from their place in the south, the constellation was named in their honor. It had been a guiding light for lost trolls ever since, Pythea leading their people on even long after their death.

Every time she looked up at it, Lorata wished she knew what Pythea had looked like. She could hardly imagine any better example of an inspiration and maybe, just maybe, if she had been able to find even an old picture, her mission might have already been done. But maybe that would have been too easy. If she wanted to see trolls capable of doing great things, real heroes, she would just have to follow in Pythea's footsteps and train them up to prepare them for their heroic feats.

They wouldn't be able to branch out into other galaxies like the old trolls had, not yet, but maybe one day, after they'd earned their statues, her heroes would lay claim to stars of their own too, just like these. And maybe, alongside them, leading the way...

Lorata let out a little laugh, stretching out contentedly, and let herself dream of adventures worthy even of the greatest of seadwellers.
