They stepped out of the room and into the next one, which seemed to be a room without special effects. Inside were two beetles, which appeared unassuming. "Oh. Back to the usual, I suppose." Alyx rolled his head on his shoulders. He felt reinvigorated by the last couple rooms. There were still secrets left to uncover in this dungeon, and they were on a path to discover all of them. What they had before them was an adventure, not a chore. Alyx had his swagger back. He grinned and prepared himself for the inevitable slaughter of these things. Readying his shield, he made himself available for blocking the unlikely attacks.

More beetles came out of the woodwork. Rota was less than enthused about that prospect at the moment. His blade flared black as he charged the beetle that was attacking Alyx. He really didn't like see his friend get attacked, even if he knew that he could handle it. Besides, it gave the other beetle time to run away and that was marginally what he wanted. He was getting tired of fighting at this point and the thought of that alone was disgusting to him. He was ready to be done.

Alyx pushed the beetle off his shield in time for Rota to eviscerate it. Rota seemed to be still just as tired of this routine as they had both been before, but Alyx was wearing an easy smile. This was just a new way to get massive mountains of loot. He wasn't wasting his time here, he was investing in his future, and that was worth smiling about. This was a task that they could accomplish. All that they had to do was keep moving forward, and everything else would fall into place. So that's what they would do. Alyx looked to his right, and saw another path out of the woods. It lead to light, and he realized what it was: It was an exit. He and Rota could walk away from this right now. If that's what Rota wanted, then Alyx wouldn't fight him on it, but Alyx had the spirit in him to keep pushing until they made it.

Rota had laid waste to the Beetle as expected. He felt the light on his face as he tried to turn to the other beetle and saw an exit. he ignored it for now. he couldn't think about anything else than the task at hand. That task was showing the Beetle exactly why it should have ran. His blade flared again and he swung it at the middle of its body. it would never have the potential of running away again.

They had vanquished another pair of pests, and were well on their way to the next room. Alyx was happy. They'd managed to persevere. They were on their way to accomplishing what no one but Alyx had apparently completed. He couldn't find any references to the Light Point system on the forums, and he wasn't exactly anxious to share his results and encourage people who weren't ready for this challenge to rush into their deaths. So he kept silent, and watched out for unexpected challenges that might arise from the dungeon. "It looks like there's a way out, if you're exhausted. No one says that we have to stay in here..." he left the second part unsaid, but he imagined that Rota could hear it anyway. 'but it would be such a shame to waste all of this work.'

The beetle was dead and Rota had killed it. He continued to feel the sun on his face as he looked out the door towards it. Taking it in for a moment as the tip of his sword was embedded in the ground beneath. Part of him really wanted to be done and leave, but that was what the thing calling to him would have wanted. He COULDN'T give up now. He wouldn't allow it. As Rota heard the words "way out" from Alyx he shouldered his blade and started leading the way into the next room. "Not for me."

Well, this was... Oddly familiar. Did they get turned around? And, if so, then how did these two mutilated beetles get un-mutilated? Oh, well. No time to ponder the mysteries of this confusing place: they needed to get to the end of this gauntlet, and the only way to do that was to move forward. Moving forward meant going through the beetles, and Alyx knew that the easiest way to do that was to keep their attention off of Rota and let the demon do as the demon does. While these things were no match for Alyx' defense, they were somewhat less amenable to his offense. Rota's offense, however, seemed to speak to them quite... Forcefully... So he figured that he should let the demon be their diplomat in this negotiation.

More beetles. he didn't even know what to say about them at this point. They were beetles. They occupied space in this dungeon. They were there. they were about to DIE. His blade flared black as he stepped towards the beetle attacking his friend. At the moment that one took precedent. Neo Abyssian sang through the air in stereo as it arced a course to the beetle's back, seeking to slice it against the shield as one slices apart a coconut on a cutting board.

Alyx' shield didn't even flinch as the beetle crashed into it. It did, however, feel the strike of Neo Abyssian. It was not an overwhelming contact, but it was still a solid strike. The Gloomking was reluctant to face a challenge like that head on, should Rota ever turn against him for some reason or another. He was positive that he would not survive that day, and that thought scared him on some level. If there was a player as powerful as Rota, and Alyx could not stand against him... What happens when that player becomes a playerkiller? A hacker? What happens when honor and duty bound him to fight this sort of threat to the death? He needed more power. If only for that reason.

Rota turned to the remaining beetle. The last one had died so wonderfully, Alyx had been a great sport about that. The thought hit him as he went to strike at the last beetle. He could have wrecked Alyx there. It wasn't even a question. He felt how near effortless it had been to knock his shield back, and despite having that impact be taken easily by his friend, he knew that his sword was MADE at this point to destroy shields like they were crackers. He couldn't do that again. One wrong move and he could end up KILLING Alyx doing something like that. He wouldn't risk that. He took this realization out on the nearest outlet. The beetle.

The beetle seemed to phase out of existence for a moment as Rota's blade passed through it. Oh, come ON. This was ******** bullshit. The beetle was turning to run away, and was apparently immune to damage for some undisclosed period of time. Maybe it would just skitter off into the trees and spare them from having to go through the trouble of murdering it. What was there to bother with, since it was obviously just a lonely ghost trying to escape the potential murderdeathrape of a sword that might very well sunder its soul. God knows that Alyx would do it if he could, but he wasn't capable of a feat quite that damaging.

He...missed? No. It PHASED through his strike. Oh. they were THOSE kinds of Beetles. He was sick and tired of this gimmicky BULLSHIT. The blade of his sword stayed glowing black as he swung viciously at the creature who DARED to make him miss. He was done SO much with all of this it wasn't even funny. The blade screamed through the air in symphony with the afterimage as it sailed towards the beetle like an asteroid to a small planet.

Alyx took the hit on his shield and once again handily defeated the attack. He wasn't threatened by these things if he was able to ground himself and take their hit straight on. He just needed to be twice as good as that to shield someone else. He would get there eventually, but it would take work to do so. When he was at that point, though, he'd be unstoppable. All he had to do was persevere and he'd get to the end of this. Rota utterly destroyed the half-real beetle and Alyx lowered his shield to allow for the loot calculations to finish before they moved into the next room. They were taking turns leading the way, perhaps hoping that they might get lucky and stumble upon the boss' room.

And the irking beetle was done for. All that was left was to see if either of them got up again. he wanted to see if they were brave enough to do so. Hopefully they would be done with the dungeon soon. This was more of a Sisyphean feat than he was expecting.
