Most of the things Toby read off were unknown to Maia, but something caught her attention. "Cheesecake?" she asked. That sounded... Odd. Cake made out of cheese? The same stuff they put on burgers and pizza? "I'll try it!" she declared. "Is it any good?"

"Yeah, it's usually pretty good," Toby said with a smile and a nod. He closed his menu. He had made his choice. "This doesn't look like the kind of place that would screw cheesecake up. What about you, Dari?"
"No, thank you."
"Spoilsport."
The waiter came then to get drink and meal orders, and at the moment the oddest-looking fellow at the table had to be the guy in the sunglasses, not even the were seal.

Maia stuck with water. She wasn't too fond of soft drinks, and lemonade was usually sour, something she found undesirable. She placed her order, glancing towards Toby. "When we stop by my place, we can find you two swimsuits if you didn't bring any," she suggested. "Or we could go to a shop and find some."

"Ah, right. I didn't bring any, but what's wrong with skinnydipping on a private beach?" Toby was testing the boundaries, and he lifted one eyebrow at the poor, innocent little selkie. Hopefully she wouldn't be offended, he has certainly meant nothing by it, not really.
Dari gave his own addendum, but without the same teasing air. "I don't need one, so long as nobody's going to be around."
Toby just snickered and shook his head.

Maia considered Toby's question. She looked him over, grinned, and leaned forward. "Nothing, I'm game if you are." She'd already seen Dari naked, but she had never seen a human male naked. Well. Not completely. They tended to remove their shirts at the beach. Toby was more defined than some she'd seen.
"That's okay. No one will be there," she assured Dari.

The selkie's boldness was surprising. Toby could only laugh in honest amusement at the suddenness of this change in her. Maybe she wasn't just some childlike sprite after all.
"Alright, alright, I see how we're gonna play this, it's fine." The waitress returned with their drinks and Toby leaned back, looking to Maia over the table. Huh. He couldn't really get a proper read on her right at this moment.
Even Dari couldn't help but smile. "Maybe I should just leave you two alone instead."
Toby patted his back. "It's okay to be jealous."
Dari's smile split into a grin.

"So, are you coming?" Maia gave Toby a wink. She took her water and sipped at it, looking over the glass at him. She set the glass down and folded her hands in front of her, elbows on the table. "Do I win?" she asked. It was a date, right? Even if Dari was there. And on dates, humans went on vigorous competitions, most seemed to do with touching.

"I thought you said I'd freeze to death," Toby challenged. And he would be all the colder nude. He paused at her next question, though, and laughed. "Wait, what? Win what?"

"You would. But I'd still have time to look." She set her glass down. "But yes, you would freeze. Your heart would stop, and all sorts of other things. Not very pleasant to watch." Maia wrinkled her nose. "The contest! Obviously I won. That means I get to pick what we have for dinner."

Toby's brow furrowed and his mouth formed the first syllable of 'what' but nothing came out. The contest? What contest? Did she think she was one of 'the boys' now? Because Toby had always found that sentiment silly to begin with. Huh. Well, whatever she won she seemed to be happy about it, even if she had already chosen lunch.
"Alright," he finally replied with a nod, "Whatever you say."

"Great! For dinner we can catch fish! You just return what's mine and we'll all go fishing. I'll catch as many as we need. I'm an expert." She beamed at Toby, taking another sip of her water. "Oooh, we could cook them.on the beach! That way you'd stay warmer!"

Oh boy, here they were again, the selkie trying to win back her pelt before they'd left the area. If they were going to go swimming on her beach she could easily just pull into her pelt and make it godawful difficult to find her again. He didn't want to disappoint her again, but he couldn't risk losing an entity t his own stupidity. He just gave her a sort of apologetic look and sipped his drink.
"You can have it back when we get on the plane."

Maia sighed. She lowered her voice. It wasn't particularly safe to discuss this in public, after all. "Look we're friends, right? And I'm going with you. To your place, and I've done everything you've asked. I'll change in the water and change back. Dari will be in the water too, and I bet he has some trick to keep an eye on me if I should escape. But I won't, I promise. I know how dangerous it is for me to stay. And I like you. I promise I won't leave."

Toby arched a brow. He really didn't like the whole thievery aspect of what they had done either, but protocol was protocol. If Maia ran off and got caught somewhere it'd be on their heads and she'd be a pain in the a** to find again. As it tuned out, selkies were pretty hard to separate from the general seal population without the help of a fourth dimension, and even then it was hit or miss.
"We'll talk about it later. For now let's just enjoy lunch, okay?"
The waiter returned then with steaming plates of food, and Toby thanked him. Later, on her own private beach.

Maia seemed to want to push the subject, opening her mouth to protest. She closed it though, and gave a nod of my agreement. Talking about it later would probably be safer. And she still might have a chance to convince Toby. She wouldn't run, she didn't believe Toby or Dari would hurt her.
When her plate came, she let it cool for a moment before winding the noodles onto her fork and taking a bite.
