"I... I agree." Xanthus took her arm gratefully, if a bit sheepishly. "It can't be normal... I wasn't hot, I just..." He cleared his throat in embarrassment. It was probably pretty bad to pass out on your date. "...And all the masks in there right now... same two colors. Red and Purple."

He wasn't sure if he should say something about it feeling different, for all he knew it was just because his head was still spinning.

"Something is definitely, definitely wrong." He agreed. God he had really really, REALLY wanted to be wrong, but the track record of Destiny City Events was apparently not to be ignored. "Do you think you've got enough steam for this or should we go find someplace to try and dial out?" He asked, trying to keep his voice low.

Wolframite wasn't able to enjoy himself as much as he would like. If he had, he'd be spending the entire time with Bismuthite and hiding behind a pillar somewhere where it was dark and private. Instead, he only got a few minutes to make out and was now against the wall, arms crossed and looking sour. He never did like getting romantic with his fiance in public where his coworkers could see. Pouting, he wore a mask that wasn't as romantic and nice as the one Billy and him wore during their last ball together.

The fact he couldn't be near Bismuthtie for his make-out kiss during New Years was only making him frown more. Arms crossed and fuming, he leaned against the wall, dressed elegantly for the occasion and checking his watch waiting for when the party was over so he could go home and welcome the new year with his fiancé.

He wanted to be anywhere far away from Quinn and the duties of his collar and his obligations to the Negavesre to be here on orders.

The party was slowly getting a bit stranger and while energy was supposed to go up when the ball went down, it seemed to slow. Confused, Ladon looked about before he started seeing people drop. Wait. What was going on?

Confused, he looked around to make sure Billy was fine and wasn't dropping. Did everyone eat bad shrimp or something? What was going on?!

It was weird hanging out with Haven because although she was a jerk to him sometimes, she wasn’t being as horrible as she could be. They’d talked, they’d bickered, they’d found food together and fussed about how people sucked. And she was starting to look rather tired, which was pretty cute… he guessed…

Of course, before he knew it, she was suddenly collapsing!!

“H-hey!!” he sputtered, unable to catch her with a plate of food in his hands, but he quickly dropped it on the ground to grab onto her shoulders to try and shake her awake. “Hey! Knock it off!” he said, trying not to seem too hysterical. He just… hadn’t been present for someone to pass out right in front of him before. Hopefully she didn’t hit her head too hard.

“I-I need help!” he called, looking around desperately, trying to get someone’s attention, but who paid attention to a couple of teenagers?

Jonah tried to look appreciative for the water, but more than likely his expression had not quite slid away from anxious just yet. The more speculation there was as to what was causing people to pass out, the more worried he became that he wasn't feeling well.

What if he'd been infected? What if it was a gas leak? If that was the case, people could very easily start dying!

He drank his water as directed, but it did nothing to calm his nerves.

“Even if they haven't told us to yet... maybe we should go ahead and start leaving the building?” Jonah suggested. “Then... I mean... at least we'll be out of the way while they're checking it out...”

He made to stand from his chair, but the room swayed and had him right back down in seconds. Jonah drank more of his water, though half of it had sloshed out in the process of going up and down. He blinked through the sudden bout of dizziness, becoming increasingly more alarmed by the second.

“I... something's wrong...” he said. “I need to find my sister. And... my grandfather. They're here somewhere...”

Trying to stand a second time got him no further than his first attempt.

[due to being on phone will save and constenly editing since phone doesn't save posts.... Found out the hard way T.T]

Abby was making a good handful of kids dance to her tune in a game they were all playing. She was queen of her circle and enjoyed making everything just so. She waved absently to her father when he popped in to check on her, she decided to put off checking on her father untill later when she could most likely manipulate him into answering truthful about a date.

The game required a bit of running so she didn't think anyhing was wrong when she got a bit dizzy. Abby called time and went to get a drink of punch wincing as a risidual pain from her feet traveled up her legs. Even after months she still felt pain after practically shredding her feet. She sat down and slowly sipped her drink and once she was done she stood up and the floor came up to meet her. She didn't remember hitting the floor or the ball attendants taking her off to the nursing station.

Laney put her other hand up to his cheek testingly. "You don't feel like you have a fever," she confirmed, though she hadn't really been expecting him to.

The masks . . . there was a thought. Hers had felt a bit different since she'd passed out, but -- it seemed to be the same. Still . . .

"If we don't have enough steam for this, I can't imagine anyone else is doing much better. I'm not sure we have much choice but to go on in this state." She tried to smile bracingly. It wouldn't help if Xanthus got himself worked up over the hopelessness of the situation. "Rally yourself, centurion," she teased. "Rome has further need of your service."

This was easier in some ways, she thought. Knight business. It was easier to be Hvergelmir, talking to Kairatos, than Laney talking to Xanthus. That was probably psychologically unhealthy -- but there it was. She was out of practice at being a normal human being.

The sound of insistent buzzing roused Fiona from her dreamless sleep. I need to get up she groaned while rolling over. Blindly groping the table beside her, Fiona's eyes snapped open as she brushed her hand against the glass cup, "Oh jeeze" she gasped causing her head to throb not enjoying the startling jolt but soon ebbed once she spotted her bag.

Reaching over, the young woman pulled her phone out to check the time only to see that she had missed a call from Fionan. Slowly she sat up in bed as to prevent another dizzy spell before quickly unlocking the screen and sending him a reply message.

I'm sorry I missed your call I was asleep in the first aid office. At least I think that's where I am. I passed out in the hallway and someone brought me here.
-send

The sound of people shuffling around her and hushed voices of hotel employees offering explanations for dizzy spells tugged at Fiona's curiosity like something fierce, and so she quietly reached out and slid the curtain open. What she saw was deeply concerning to say the least. What in the world..? the only four words that came to mind seeing so many unwell people gathered in one place. Given several were being discharged it seemed a little odd considering exactly how well prepared the hotel staff seemed to be... almost as if they expected something like this to happen.

Eyebrows furrowed as slate blue eyes scanned over the faces of preteens and children mixed among the adults beside them. Somethings not right... There simply were too many here for this to be a coincidence and they all shared a similar expression; exhaustion and fatigue. Yes some did indeed look incredibly smashed and about ready to lose the contents of their stomach but the rest... the rest left an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Reaching out she grabbed a hold of the nurses arm that had helped her before, "Excuse me. Can you tell me what's going on?" she asked while gesturing with her other arm to the guests that sat on the sofa waiting to be seen.

"Nothing to worry about" the woman replied with a reassuring smile across her face "Some of the guests have just been partying a bit too much. They'll be okay once we get some fluids in them."

Liar Fiona thought, though she chose not to voice her opinion and instead nodded her head as if she accepted the womans' explanation.

"I suggest you go lay down for a bit more and..."

"I'm okay," Fiona cut the woman off mid sentence. "My boyfriend is on his way up. I'll wait for him in the hall if it's all the same; that way someone else can use the bed." With that said she let go of the woman's arm and skirted around her, refusing to offer her even a moment to object.

Her encouragement coaxed a smile from him, and he debated giving her a teasing salute, but it would have drawn too much attention. "For the Fair Lady, I will rally." He promised. And she was right, they didn't know who was here, they didn't know who would be powered up, or who would be able to reach them, or even how well the place was defended on the outside. So far they'd only taken energy, but that might not be all they were after tonight, and if they left, reinforcements might not arrive in time. "Someone's probably powered up, somewhere." He added quietly, thoughtfully. "But if they are they're either where we can't see them, or they have very passable uniforms."

He'd have never gotten away with it, it wasn't his kind of shindig for that.

"...The masks are a possible hang up. Depends how closely we think they're watching who has what, if we need to power up." He added, thoughtfully, trying to draw something like a plan through his weary mind.

At least with the timing of his own faint he thought they could be reasonably sure it wasn't the food. Maybe they had some fancy coffee or something on offer. Something to help them wake up.

"Keep watching for now or do we go find ourselves a phone booth?" Both of them being so tired, it seemed like a good idea to continue bouncing ideas off each other. Maybe they'd be able to keep each other from making an sloppy mistake.

Sigh.

So, people were fainting left and right. The atmosphere was worried. Soon the panic would rise and the Order might show up. Jade wasn't very keen of the idea. She had just back in the country, she wasn't in the mood to fight.

Deciding it would be time to act rather than just observe the situation, Jade shifted from her position of watching dances towards the water station. Near her she saw couple young teens hanging around, talking with each other of something she didn't hear. And honestly, she wasn't that much interested. Teens, kids, almost the same. Annoying brats, with few expections of course. Honestly, in Jade's mind almost all of people were but that was just something she had to deal with. They seemed tired though, like almost all guests here. Knowing very well their orders - don't let anyone leave - she watched them, examining their behaviour as well as she could. Especially the girl seemed tired and Jade took a step towards them, holding a glass of water on her hand. A child collapsing on late of the night could be seen as normal. A teen, not so much. But before she could be any kind of help to the girl, she collapsed.

"I saw what happened," she said in a stern voice while hurrying by side of the boy who was trying to help her. Quickly, she opened her silver clutch and pulled out a hankerchief from inside. After pouring some water on the cloth she pressed it against the poor girl's forehead.

"I think she could use some fresh air," the petite lady suggested to Peter and seemed to be ready to carry his companion there.

"Ace? What kind of name is Ace? Where does it even come from? Like you are an ace? Or... Asexual? Don't care what it means but I'm still going to kick your a**." Through the menus and game choices he wandered. Then the game began. A contest of most kills in least amount of time.

Something just felt off though. He was slipping in and out of focus which was evident in the amount of times her rammed his stolen vehicle into a storefront or other cars. This wasn't like him at all! He had spend hours upon HOURS attempting to perfect such a technique but it was like he was high or something! He couldn't focus and the room became more and more foggy.

"Dammit..." He muttered and put down the controller mid-race. The back of his hands were used to try to clear his eyes. Yet before they could even make contact with his face his hands went limp. He stumbled where he sat a few times as he worked so hard to break free from this drowsiness that was plaguing him to no avail. In just a moment he flopped over with his icecream going everywhere and his consciousness vanishing without a trace.

"Of course, of course, miss! I do hope you feel better." She was there, awake and gone in a flash. It almost left him feeling down as he still didn't know too many people in this city after coming from the west to go to school here. His mind had come up with so many different possibilities of what could have happened for them. They could have chuckled about the situation. He could have tried to take her to some place safe and made sure she got home safely. They could have been friends. But she was gone, and there didn't seem to be anything he could do about it.

Such was life, however! And it was getting late anyway. What better way to leave a party than early and beat the traffic! And he felt tired, so tired. Once he stepped into the cold outside he slipped off his mask and took a nice deep breath of fresh air. Still tired, but atleast he felt awake enough to drive now. And that in itself was fantasticly glorious.

She mumbled something completely incoherent, and then went still and silent again. It was probably no surprise when a nurse came over to check her out, flashing Emory a look while she clicked her tongue. "Another one, well dearie me -- think you could help me carry this poor girl to the medical station?" She didn't even bother sounding that concerned; with all the panic and disorder spreading, who was even listening?

---

Natalie woke up a few minutes later, and she shot up almost too quickly as she gasped. "Oh my god... did I...?" Then she promptly flopped back down again, because let's face it, she was worn out to the wet noodle stage. This was so weird. Beyond weird. Some lady just out of sight was saying something about her being overheated, but like... she'd never fainted before! Ever!

Haven could hear voices around her, but the words didn't process in her tired brain. She could see vague shapes and colors through her hazy vision—faces hovering over her, figures moving. She knew Peter was still there because she recognized his voice. Did he catch her? She thought he might have. She didn't hurt the way she thought she would if she'd been allowed to hit the ground.

That was sweet, she thought—that he'd catch her. She wouldn't have expected him to be concerned. They didn't often show concern for one another, after all. The rivalry between them was too intense to allow for it, though she supposed as they got older maybe things like that changed. They weren't two twelve-year-olds arguing over math scores anymore. They were both fourteen and almost grown up! Surely they could act more mature than they used to.

But there was another voice nearby that Haven didn't recognize. Suddenly she felt something cool against her forehead, like how her mother would place a wet cloth upon her head when she had a fever.

Did she have a fever now? It hadn't seem like it. She'd only been tired. She didn't ache the way she thought she should be if she'd fallen ill with the flu. Plus, that was usually the kind of stuff you could feel coming. She hadn't felt this at all beyond the fatigue.

Haven groaned, half-conscious, and tried to make out the figures around her.

Was her brother nearby? Or her grandfather?

“What's going on?” she mumbled.

Stroud looked around, and it really was around Ariel and Elle's generous proportions, to the growing discontent at the doors to the ball. There was a slowly gathering throng of sequins and Italian silks complaining about wanting to leave and weak excuses not to let them.

She toned her next words softly, just for the other three in their congress to hear, "I wasn't given any heads up beyond the mask about what the plan was tonight- a gross oversight in the efficiency of the occasion. But there IS plainly an occasion, and those poor sots are running out of excuses to keep people inside. There's a very real avoidance response that we can play off of to get people to back away from the doors and stop paying attention to their own troubles. Ariel, you and I are going to give them a scandal. We're going to get into a fight over dates. Laz, Elle, you're going to make with the panic and get people to pay attention to us fighting over you both and get the crowd to pay more attention to breaking us up than leaving. The timid will back away from the door and wait for it to pass."

It was followed up by a rapid reach to grab Ariel's luxurious mane to haul her down, "Wench! It's hardly been two weeks and you can't keep your hands to yourself! I thought you were my bestie!!"

When he first glanced at Tolliver, his eyes were dark and stormy, his lips curled in an almost inhuman snarl - but it quickly melted away when he realized not only who it was, but that it was someone who wanted to help. If it was anything else he would have recoiled, but this - it was a basic human thing, a nice thing. "Uh, wow. Thank you, " he said lowly as he took the offered napkins, dipping his head to the other man.

Who'd seen him faint, he realized with more than a touch of embarassment. "I really don't know what happened. I mean I'm a little tired, but this... " The staff carried someone else by, limp like he was. "Not THAT tired. I mean I am now, I guess, " he sounded like he was doubting himself, and he sighed, trying to dab some more dip off his sleeve. He was frustrated. Embarrassed. But still grateful.

"Oh, I - " Hitch looked up, toying idly with the back of his lip piercing between his teeth. "I'm Logan, by the way. Most people just call me Hitch though. And thanks again."

Chris didn’t realize what happened for a second, but felt the dead weight of his wife in his arms and quickly tightened his hold on her. “Paris!” he gasped in concern, nearly dropping her as she suddenly fell against him. “Paris wake up!”

It was hard not to panic when your significant other collapses for no reason. Sure they had been dancing and it was late and they were usually tired as it was, but for her to faint like this was very unlike her. Glancing around, he spotted the table with the drinks and food. He leaned down to scoop Paris up into his arms to carry her over to the table, not caring if someone yelled at him for reaching his hand into the bowl of ice.

“Paris,” he tried coaxing her awake as he held her against him, albeit rather awkwardly with only one arm, using his free hand to rub some ice along her forehead and the back of her neck. With everyone else not feeling well, he doubted they would have time to take care of her as well, and let’s face it… he didn’t exactly trust people with her as much as he trusted himself.

Another somewhat familiar figure caught his attention, and while the mask had him hesitating for a moment, he called out, “Ladon! I don’t know what happened. She just passed out.” He looked from Ladon to Billy, his eyes obviously begging them to help him as he tried not to panic.
