Ikkio – Shifter/Ice Prentice
Around: With Aysun, Chandra, Takoda, & Korra

”Sounds like fun.” said Ikkio to Aysun. Actually, it sounded miserable. She gestured towards where the shifter man had gone off to. ”Was that an uncle of yours?” she asked.

Aysun's brother seemed like a boring sort of person, absorbed in his book. Well, she could halfway understand that: magic was fascinating.

Surprised that the little girl was paying any attention to her at all (she certainly wasn't doing much towards the little one), she took the girl's hand.

”Liberating it, eh?” she said, looking slyly at the beast. It was awfully big – where could they hide it? How would they get it out at all? She turned back towards Korra. ”Mmm. Maybe after it's done fighting. It will need a rest then, wouldn't it?”

She wasn't discarding the idea entirely.

Biroki – Shifter Sage
Sleeping Tents: Talking to his friends/students

Biroki backed up a little bit, moving slightly closer to Uquin and his daughter, who he smiled at. There was a hint of sadness to his smile; how long ago had it been his own girls were that age... He missed Ikuri. Stars, he missed Ikkio when she still looked like she could be innocent and cute.

But time passed.

”It's good to see you too, Padma.” he said, giving her a little bow. Uncle... it had a nice ring to it. Nobody else was ever likely to call him 'uncle'.

”And, I'd be h-happy to apply it for you, Uquin.” he glanced at Mella, and then back to Uquin.

Were they together? Would they be together? Relationships were so confusing, especially now, without his wife... ”It is the least I could do. It was my fault you were injured in the first place. I'll examine them too, make sure they're healing right.” he added, glancing back at Mella, ”P-padma could help me prepare the medicine if you...” If you two want a moment to yourselfe...

Bhima - post 1 /1

Bhima offered her mother the bag of feed, and the woman took it with a nod. It was going to be a loud while for her. The rope was looped around the squabbling bird as well like two toddlers on leashes.

"Ah, no. We've always lived in Andile, in Jahuar."

Bhima nodded. "Of course there may not be much of it left if we don't fight for it."

Mella:
Location: with Uquin and Brioki.

Mella was surprised to hear the child really was Uquin’s though the resemblance was undeniable. “She has such a lovely name.” Mella wondered why both children were not with Pahanna or with Uquin. Still Uquin having a wife did hurt a bit in her heart. When Padma asked about the food she nodded. And watched the little girl with much amusement. She was clearly a very sweet girl. Uquin was lucky to have family like that. She chuckled watching her sail scale sniff his piece and snap it up quickly. Really she never would have expected Telwren to share much less seem alright with getting food back once a stranger had touched it. She glanced at Broki wondering how it was he was responsible for Uquin’s bandages. She nodded grateful to the healer for offering to take Uquin’s child for a moment or two, glancing at Uquin she wondered why he looked so uncomfortable. Waiting until it was clear whether the child would stay or go she mulled over what to say. She wondered how she could help in some way and hoped not to botch it up. “Uquin if you have something you wish to talk about it’s ok. “ She reached out and touched his shouldered gently hoping she didn’t make him more ill at ease by moving closer to him. “Are things alright with your with your wife?” Was that why only one child was with him?

Telwren gulped up the food and hissed again at the other stranger who had never given him food before dragging himself over to his own food giver to get picked up. Once he was up, he clamored into the sash that was so comfortable to sleep in.

He recalled on how many occasions Aysun had taken his book from him and how Awen his sprite would try and help him get it back. The young lad felt the sprite back with the rest of Aysun's horde of pets, much to her displeasure. But he didn't want to risk her getting hurt or even killed, k and not knowing what to expect he had left them in the care of their fathers family.

"I am not deaf you know...I can hear what you are saying." Chandra muttered as he shook his head before snapping the book closed once more. He wished he had a satchel like their uncle Takoda because then he would have a safe place to put it. One with a reduced risk of Aysun doing something to it.

"And I'd appreciate if you don't teach Korra to be a pest like you." Chandra managed with a glance to the little girl before looking to Ikkio crossing his arms across his chest the book dangling from his right hand.

"Yeah that was our Uncle, he is a Soul Linker now...though I am not sure how he is going to help beyond healing. Ever since he came back from Neued that one time he has acted a bit strangely."

Korra liked both her cousins, but Aysun was of course the a lot more fun than Chandra was. She liked it when he would tell her stories, although sometimes they were a bit on the boring side. Aysun was more active and fun and often rather silly.

Giggling she nodded her head, jumping up and down slightly in anticipation with the idea of taking the book away from Chandra, like a game of keep away! Giving a clap of her hands she instantly pointed to Chandra,
"Get the book! We must save him!" She declared to Aysun and to Ikkio herself. Her wide eyes looked to the woman with expectancy and delight, as if this could be the best game ever if she helped get the book away!

...Huh. Lucijah frowned, thinking over Nera's words. In the hot-headed part of her, there was a spark at being disagreed with - and yet logically she admired Nera. Lucijah wasn't really the sort to think too much about politics, culture, all that junk. All she knew was that Nera had been living in the forest, just as she did. "That's all that matters to me - I'll leave you to philosophize about our joined cultures." Lucijah said, dismissively but also in a gentle tone.

It was hard to be upset when Nera was petting her face so sweetly, even when every motion seemed to take energy from her exhausted form. So when she bid her to remove her sandals, Lucijah gave her a strange look, unsure what pain she meant, but reluctantly pulled herself from Nera's arms, moving preemptively to the water jug to soak up cloth once more. Then she returned and knelt infront of her, moving to grip the sandals and very slowly and carefully remove them.

The girl smiled and gave a trill of a laugh at Biroki's bow, looking between the three adults, still chewing on her jerky. With food in her belly, Padma looked to her papa for confirmation (which came in the form of a nod), then bounced to Biroki's side, reaching up to take hold of his hand. "What kinda medicine are you going to make??" She asked, her voice loud and curious.

Uquin watched Telwren as Padma shared food with him, suspicious of the creature. But to his surprise, the animal didn't seem food aggressive, and it retreated with a slither to Mella's sash as soon as it had shared its meal. How strange to think that same beast had willingly shared a meal with Padma? But he was thankful, because every bit of food in her belly was another concern whiped off his mind, for the moment.

Once she had toddled off to Biroki's side, Uquin looked at Mella again, then swallowed hard as she touched his shoulder. He couldn't explain why he felt nervous around her. But he knew it had to do with Padma being present. He wasn't ashamed of his daughter, far from it. But even if Uquin's experience with Mella had been largely platonic, he couldn't deny that he was very, very fond of her. The times when his mind turned to her as the months went on was a testament to that, and the jo he felt at seeing her here, safe and sound, made that even more clear. "To talk about? No, perhaps this upcoming battle just has me nervous." Uquin laughed weakly and forced a smile.

Far from being unsettled by Mella coming closer, Uquin instead gazed at her with some obvious confusion when she spoke, giving a slow shake of his head. "Wife... I don't... oh." His eye widened, then he shook his head again. "We are not married. We're both here for our daughters, and as a family, but..." Why was he saying this? Honestly, denying his involvement with Pahana to any regular person inquiring as to his life would seem that he was rejecting Pahana, eagerly asserting that they weren't together. But he felt it was important Mella knew it, nonetheless - he just hoped he didn't shame Pahana by saying it. Probably the most damning part of this was that as he spoke, without thinking Uquin moved his hand to settle over Mella's, on his shoulder, his fingers brushing against her knuckles. Once he realized what he'd done though, he pulled his hand sharply away and cleared his throat.

What on earth was with this strange woman? Somewhat unnerved, instead of answering Naria stepped to the side of her beast, taking a hold of the leather straps wrapped around its massive shoulders, and tugged herself up with a leap until she sat aloft his back, behind his large head. This put her at a height advantage, but also helped to end the conversation, unless Kaalnia wished to shout her compliments up to her.

Naria was here for war, after all.

The final preparations are underway - but there seems to be some discontent stirring. By the leader's tents, a small crowd begins to form - mostly of older earthlings from afar, from Zena or Sauti, with a few leaf earthlings worriedly coasting around the edge. They spoke hushedly, but finally their concerns couldn't be contained.

"Have any of you thought of surrendering?" A wind woman suggested, her voice plaintive. She looked to be a merchant by trade. "How do we know these Obans won't go easy on us if we surrender now? Fighting will make it worse!" A mumble of agreement coasts through the group, and soon they are scattering through the camp, spreading dissenting ideas.

Why not surrender? When the Obans win, they'll have so much land to cover surely only those who fight will be enslaved - the rest will surely be left alone, under Oban rule, to carry on with their lives. What control can a king so far away have on them in their day to day lives?

The more the dissenters talk, the more furious Naria seems to become until her hands are gripping the reins of her Yaotl with white knuckles. But for now she remains quiet, and only shakes her head, mumbling about foolishness.

Aysun - prentice
Location by the big lizard's cage with Chandra, Korra, & Ikkio
Post: 7

Aysun turned to look over at his brother as he snapped his book closed, a sure sign that he was getting moody. It was something that only caused Aysun to smile that much brighter, "Ah! I am glad to hear that, Chandra! Otherwise I would worry... surely you're not so old that your hearing is already failing, right?" He said in a teasing manner before he took a couple steps toward him, "Come on, come on! Smile, Chandra! We need to try to stay upbeat." He knew full well that given what was going on that it was likely it would effect people negatively but it would be hard to really tell one way or the other if it was bothering Chandra, if only because he was always in the same pouty mood.

"A pest?" He asked, lifting his hands to clutch at his chest, "You wound me, Chandra! I'm not a pest! I am your loving brother! Also, I am merely teaching Korra how to save you the dangers of booooks!" He said, grinning a bit, finding it fun that he had gotten his brother's attention to the point that he had actually closed his book!

Of course he found himself distracted from baiting him when Ikkio asked about Takoda, "Uncle Takoda, he's one of few people that can rein in Uncle Jacin, it's pretty impressive." He said, not wanting to know how he did it since it was likely some sort of couples only stuff. Nothing that he wanted details about to be certain. He found himself starring at his brother in a curious manner when he mentioned that Takoda had been 'acting strangely' but he found himself wondering about that. Was he acting in such a manner? He supposed with everything else going on, especially Korra's appearance, he just had missed it. Shaking his head he said, "I am sure Uncle Tako will be fine, I meen he has Uncle Jacin, right? Not to mention Korra here."

He gave his cousin a grin and a thumbs up when she said that they had to 'get the book and save Chandra', "Agreed! Let's go!" He said, hurrying forward so that he could pounce on his pouty twin, "Come on, Korra, you pounce too!"

He accomplished nothing by standing around here uselessly. Kennet had mentioned his father, but searching amongst the tiny throngs of people and tents would probably not go unnoticed. Clutching his companion's hand in one of his, he reached back with the other to tug his hood over his face and shift his cloak about his shoulders. Probably not the best disguise, but at least the most obvious of his more Oban features were hidden enough. "Let's go," he murmured softly, clinging to Kennet's fingers as he walked ahead.

Perhaps it would be best if he just crept along the camp's shadows... Less noticable that way... But no, not sneaking. Sneaking would be incredibly suspicious if- when they were found. Probably better to show that he had nothing to fear or hide. For a moment, he allowed himself the humor that if the situation was just a touch different, perhaps they'd be sneaking around doing other, more pleasurable things. Together, but otherwise alone. With stupidly giddy grins upon their faces. Of course, that would never happen, especially not in a place like this. He shook the thought away, though a teeny smile remained across his lips.

For the first few yards, he still felt safe, maybe even confident. But as the number of people lingering around increased, so too did the number who actually noticed them. Murmurs of, "That boy..." "Who is he?" "Doesn't look like any Earthling I've seen..." reached him. Perhaps they were merely curious at first, but it didn't take long for full-blown suspicion to seep in. With a quiet groan, Xilarn tugged the lip of his hood further down his face, if that was possible.

I am so sorry OTL Such a lovely moment was given thanks to Drac, but after the whispers announcement Mella's muse got scared. although I wonder how long until she notices she's now squeezing his arm.....

DraconicFeline

Mella: post ½
Location with Uquin in the camp near supply tents as the whispers spread through the camp.

Her fingers tightened slightly against his skin for a brief moment at the mention of battle. In truth it scared her as well. She had seen the horrors before and still had bad dreams from time to time, but she had only ever seen a fraction of what those like Uquin had to deal with. Uquin looked nearly ill about the matter. Her eyes couldn’t contain her surprise about Uquin and Pahana not being wed. She knew that there were many who had children and did not wed, though she was at least used them staying together in what was more or less a marriage even where it not stated as such where they from other tribes. Pursing her lips for a moment she nodded before she spoke as though deciding on a course which only happened after the delicate warmth of his hand left her own. The touch had been pleasantly distracting making little sail scales soar in her belly and want to hug him and feel more. “I come from a land of many traveling nomads. Those who have children do not always wed the one they are with due to the groups traveling so much and perhaps separating for a time. Though while they do travel together it is understood they are parents and will always be a family though not always together and may find other mates in the future. Padma’s mother will always be her mother and always a part of your family though the joining was temporary. There is no worry in that unless you parted on bad terms. As long as all is well then it is not and will never be a problem.”A light hand stayed rested against his darker skin and gently stroked twice to help sooth any agitation. She hoped she explained it well enough after all not every place was as such or Uquin would have more peace rather than the squirming he seemed to have at the moment. A pity the moment that was so lovely was broken as she heard the whispers around the camp seem to drift finally through to her. Those whispers discussed giving up and letting the oban’s overrun them. She didn’t dare listen to them all because they scared her more than she wanted to admit. Sliding her arm around his she drew close to Uquin naturally when worried. Small lines creased her forehead as Mella licked her lip before making a suggestion. “Perhaps we should follow Biroki. I know they aren’t done yet and likely have not even reached the tents, but many hands make for quick work. Besides I dislike the idea of leaving a child as sweet as your own alone in a camp. While she had a good guard if things become pressing he might be called away and I would rather someone is able to be by her side if she needs anything. After all you and Biroki are very skilled healers but sometimes a girl simply needs another girl to talk to.” Mella glanced up at Uquin as she pulled gently to get him to go after Biroki and Padma. She wanted to stay and chat but the whispers where developing to a fever pitch reminding her that she was in a war camp and this was not a safe place. “Is Padma’s mother here as well with.” He had said daughters rather than daughter. “Any other children you may have?” She glanced at a ice tribe man who was talking openly about taking his weapon and going to surrender at the oban camp. “Perhaps she would like to speak with Biroki as well? Where we are all headed might be a bit out of the way, but that’s not always bad thing.” If a fight broke out the children would be in danger.

Hijil – Shifter Guard
Supply tent – with Bhima and her mother

Hijil felt a slight chill as she contemplated the truth of Bhima's words. She had seen the Oban's camps, the denuding and destruction of the forest that they caused and the stumps that remained.

If they did not fight for Jahuar, her home would be nothing more than a source of wood for the Obans. It would die, and she dared not rely on it to kill them first. She'd have to do it, much as it hurt to think that she could be capable of handing out death. She didn't want to be so, not towards people like her and Bhima.

”Andile... is that near the coast?” she asked, finally. Was I close enough was what she was really asking.

Ath chirped angrily to her sister. Was she going to stand for this treatment?! Ath wasn't! Ath cheeped arrogantly, demanding she be released to do whatever she pleased...

Kaalnia – Alkidike Blade
Beast Tents to Leaders Tents: Shutting up a Dissenter

Allright, so Naria had things to do. Kaalnia winked at her: they could talk later. She turned back to Vollerai, hoping to get a little more flirting done before she had to fight the Oban bastards, when someone spoke up.

Kaalnia's good mood reverted right back to the sour, suspicion that she had had before. ”Oi.” she said, turning on the dissenters, ”Shut up.” she stomped over to them, towering over the earthlings by a good head and a half. ”You want to be slaves to someone else? You, merchant lady,” she crossed her arms and glared at them, her stomach growling acidly in emphasis (and to remind her she needed to eat something), ”Thats where they take your work and leave you with nothing but the minimum. These folks are bad news, and they've done enough damage already, so yeah. We're fighting them. I'm fighting them.” Kaalnia knew it sounded accusatory, like she was calling them cowards. She thought they were cowards.

But she, herself, had been a coward.

Maybe I should be a little bit nicer... she thought.

”Look.” she said, relenting, ”I get you not wanting to fight yourself, or having your doubts or something. And that's fine, I guess, you're free, right? You can think what you want. But you know what? You don't say things like that to people who are gonna fight. It's just plain rude.” she wrinkled her nose, ”Besides, we'll win this time.” she glanced at Naria, and at the others who weren't doubting – who either had looks of intense, energetic, enthusiasm for the cause or dire seriousness. They were ready to fight for their lands and livelihoods. ”I'll bet on it.”

Vollerei chuckled at the other's reason.. It did make sense, thought Vollerei did not think her flirtatious sister was going to get lucky. Her smile quickly fled as the weakness and worry came out. Turning around she glared at them.

"Oh, you'd like to just surrender would you? Want to know what they do with our people? They make us into slaves. My sisters and I destroyed a net of bandits who were raiding your towns and selling you to the Obans as slaves. You think they will treat those who surrender any different than those they buy?" She growled and shook her head angrily. "They don't see us as people. They see us as lesser and you will be treated as such should you give up. Surrendering will just convince them you are weak and worthless...not worthy of respect or worth the effort to treat you as a person and not a thing. Didn't you listen to Narria at all? Her people have already been conquered! You think they've treated them nicely? Treated them as people and respected them? Then why would she be here?!" Kaalina apparently had a kinder streak in her than Vollerei; she was disgusted by this talk and really wanted to punch the dissenters.

"If you want to surrender.. get out of here. We are here to fight and keep our people free, not give up and dishonor all those who have died so far and will die in the upcoming fight as they fight for your worthless hide."

[ between the supply and commanders' tents ]

Kauff found himself oddly at a loss for words, watching the stealthier Tendaji slip away to invade the Oban camp and feeling a little ashamed that he lacked the experience and courage to do the same. But what really threw him was the aquatic soldier who spoke up soon after, leading the beast he had been feeding sporadically into their midst. He kind of wanted to approach, maybe ask her a question or two, but that thing was just so... weird. It had seemed harmless enough on its own, but what if she commanded it to take off his hand? Not that such a lovely girl would do such a thing, surely.

Standing silently in the supply tent with Tafiir nearby, Kauff pondered everything he'd seen and heard as he awaited further instruction. Thankfully, all the talk of surrender was just out of earshot, at least for now.
