Slaughter returned the wave before wandering back out into the chaos of the fairgrounds.

Zar decided while there was a lull in visitors to the booth to go and update Barth on the status of things, he'd learned for the most part that there was no one out to harm the patrons and that generally the booth was a hit. He felt a little over-charged though, too much contact, too many emotions that lingered residual and maddening on his thoughts. He felt like a man who was starving to death and had only been permitted the merest crumbs of food from a banquet just out of reach. It was once more starting to twist from confidence to frustration. Excusing himself from the others, he made his way over to the couch where Barth still reclined and sat down where he'd been before.

Once again his tail sprawled out like it owned the place and for a moment he didn't bother to say anything at all, just sought out skin and when he found it reached out again - carefully sidestepping the eerie effects of the rose to express simply his sense of security and confidence. It still came underpinned with the frustration and predatory edge he couldn't help.

"I am not certain if that was what you wanted me to do." he said quietly. "Many of the individuals appear to be first years from what I gather. Many, though not all."

Well...there was nothing else to it really. Ryou was just tired and the booth of naps was there, so he trudged his way in and collapsed. He dreamed of colored dots. It was a nightmare.

He didn't like to admit it, but Anepou was feeling tired from all his activity today. After he had considered going back to his room to nap, he spotted the NAP booth. Well! That was convenient! As he went in, he noticed the roll of tickets. Oooo! He reached over and attempted to pull one off, resulting in a success! He snagged a ticket! Not that he expected he'd fail, it wasn't that hard a task, he felt.

With that, he went to make use of the lovely resting booth.

Nova returns to the harem pillow he'd stuffed up against an empty couch and stretches out on it. He yawns tiredly and watches the comings and goings of others through a half lidded gaze.

Unlike the Incubus, the Nightmare had not yet felt that sting of vindictive and nasty tempered boils and ghouls. She had, in her own way, been trying to encourage fun and relaxation with her booth and interactions there, already having befriended a shy kitsune and encouraged a more positive outlook from an otherwise surly nekomata. Zar, by Addie's count, seemed to be a fantastic type, more a kindred spirit in mindset, even if she didn't entirely understand his feelings the way he did her own.

"I am," she confirmed with a pleased smile, neck craned back to look up at the large boil. "A simple eyeball-in-the-fishbowl game, Floresce Bowl, it's down yonder." Ada extended her fingers towards the booth that was out of sight from the NAP section. "I can promise that I wont try to hurt that lovely jaw of yours, and I would be most happy to receive you!" The Nightmare was warming up to him; had she been standing, she might have seized his hand and dragged him to the booth just then. "If you like cooked floresce, I have some snacks I'll willingly part with."

The Nightmare relaxed visibly at the insistence that her presence was not a detriment, settling against the pillows. "If you've no other hands to shake, you should relax too. I'll feel guilty if I get to lounge here and take advantage of this peaceful ambiance and you stand among these perfectly comfortable pillows without use." Addie flashed a grin, leaning back on the pillows and stretching her arms over her head like a feline stirring in its slumber. "Mm, I'm finding it hard to convince myself to go back to work at all!"

Zar felt more than a little relief at the fact that the ghoul intended no harm to those present and almost immediately warmed to her,. He was always a litlte jaded about the intentions of others and fully expected a large population of the student body to be vindictive purely for the sake of it. He considered it in some ways crossing business and pleasure, certainly it was in their nature to be cruel to the humans, or at least scary to them, but that did not mean that they needed to treat their fellow halloween denizens the same way. Any feedback that the ghoul might have received from Zar over the brief link would have mirrored this delight and friendliness tinged with a hint of curiosity, after all, he was just a trifle biased towards creatures that dealt in sleep and dreams. Barth had taught him a lot and anything that had Barth's attention in turn held his.

"Ah you are running a booth of your own? What sort of booth is it if you don't mind my asking? I should stop by perhaps, I have not had time to leave this booth as yet, between disputes with friends over pillow placement etcetera." he rubbed his jaw pointedly at this. "I am indeed having a lovely time regardless though."

He waved a hand dismissively. "And not at all, no need to move along you can rest here as long as you wish, it is what it is for after all, not just sleep but a safe place to rest alongside others."

For the incubus, who was more sensitive in these matters, the rose left what felt like an eerie, perfect hole in the fabric of Barth's emotions. The hole had an almost sinister but undeniable absorbant effect, a draw both psychological and physical, the surface glamor a side effect of the irresistible pull to be drug deeper and darker. What waited within was uncertain. There was certainly no return of attraction (for that was the price of the rose), and although the edges of that hole had the makings of love- the strange beginnings of a hormonal cocktail, it was not quite love, and it did not provide the emotions. There was only the stirrings of temptation and the sucking, ever-hungry gravity of sirens over a whirlpool.

The rest of Barth's emotional landscape was quite aware of the hole, and he allowed it. For the time being, in his role as a host to the NAP club, it suited his purposes. He was not unfamiliar with temptation. His makeup was sewn from sin. Even if that sin, he would argue, (like himself) was the very harmless and benign variety.

Everything but his libido (absent) was him. He was, all considered, at the peak of contentment. To provide a service to so many tired faiground patrons was bliss. The words it's hard to convince myself to go back to work were the equivalent of a hellish choir.

He smiled at Zar's report. Alright, then. Swimming. Very good. Barth was melted into the couch. At his most relaxed, there was not even a threatening stir to answer the tail. Zar could wrap it wherever he liked. They'd created a small square foot vortex of not doing anything at all.

"Oh yesss, a success," he sighed.

Strolling into the booth at the end of a long, fun evening of games, Benji lazily reaches for a ticket on his way by, pulling one off completely before deciding to recline on one of the soft couches for a bit.

Zar did not like the rose one bit. And even that felt like an understatement. At first he hadn't understood what was wrong with him and it had thrown him off kilter, he'd thought he'd failed at everything he'd tried to achieve over the last several months. It had dented his confidence and the resulting anxiety had gotten him into a scuffle with Christof. And now with what he could see of Barth's internal landscape he felt very clearly that all of those things had been thanks to some sort of magical influence. The b*****d had done it deliberately, he knew it was there.

The very feeling of that void, the magical pull of the hole in his world made his gut twist and his pulse quicken. It was like vertigo on the edge of a cliff, an unstable bit of ground underfoot that made all his instincts cry out in disapproval. It felt fundamentally wrong and as if it was trying to siphon what there was of him away simply for getting too close. It felt precise and tailored, wrapped around all facets of lust or attraction like a wall of broken glass.

And he allowed it. Barth allowed this thing to excise part of him, to deny the Incubus one of the primary satisfactions he was ever permitted. And he hated it, he hated the rose and in his frustration and pent up energy of the moment he hated Barth by proxy, it felt intentional, aimed at him, a deterrent centered around keeping the Incubus at bay and clipping his wings.

The other demon's satisfaction only incensed him further, of course he was happy, of course he got what he wanted. He always did. And at the end of the day it was Zar left wondering what he'd gained. He felt like he had done a good job but ultimately had nothing to show for it but what he could only perceive as a punishment. Whatever his domain was, whatever his calling was supposed to be, it could not be found here.

The shift in his emotions could be felt, from the seeking uncertain reaching out, to his recoil from the rose itself rapidly twisting up in a monster of hurt and anger, and then his tail withdrew, curling around his hooves in tight coils. The link broke as he did so, and he said nothing else, simply leaned his chin on a hand and rested his elbow on his knee.

He didn't feel like trying to explain.

Barth did not quite have the emotional equipment the incubus had, so the source of the hurt and anger were a bit of a mystery.

And whatever the state of his...drives, Zar was still, well, a friend - after a fashion.

He opened one eye, dragging himself out of the NAP-related marinade, and reached to touch Zar with a hesitant claw. All of it was there, Barth's own emotions, and the feelings that Zar inspired. There was affection, he did quite like Zar, and concern, and a colder and well-hidden ambition. Desire, was, of course, missing. He was though, overall in a good mood, slightly overloaded but not in the pent-up frazzled way Zar had gotten, like an electric lightbulb with too much input, but the bloated feelings of an overfed snake.

"You alright?"

In that moment, in that swirl of unsolicited emotion he'd only just drawn back from in disdain, Zar hated everything all the more. He hated it because as much as he wanted to lash out, even that small amount of affection was enough to take the edge off of his anger and mean that he couldn't do anything. This time he restrained his own feelings, sensed for Barth's but gave the other demon absolutely nothing of his. Two could play the void game and the sensation was markedly different than normal. The same sense of drawing in emotion was there, of sapping feelings but without the usual carefully meted out slices of Zar's own feelings to keep his victim sweet and pliant. It was sharp and violatory, invasive and brisk.

"You know." he said icily. "But of course my state is fundamentally irrelevant." And then without warning his tone softened into a sweet easy smile, all cordial fondness as if he'd never been upset at all, and with the link closed off it was impossible to tell if he was genuine. "I am glad things are working out well for you here. I shouldn't get upset over things that don't matter in the grand scheme. In our grand scheme." He shrugged his shoulders.

"I am just wonderful. Never been better."

Barth winced at the words grand scheme. He had...plans, sort of, eventually, very private ones that he was almost religiously superstitious about sharing or even admitting.

And while he was usually fairly in tune with the state of his own conscious (and subconscious), Barth was genuinely oblivious to the game of emotional tennis.

He grew worried at the sudden cordiality.

Significant others or dates being cross with him was nothing new. It was just not his...specialty. He'd never had much lasting success in the arena.

"Err. Not alright, then. It...does matter."
