Filix grinned as she watched a little mouse run off. She'd only seen some in the stables, was this where they had been taking shelter in teh castle? It was kind of sweet though. Her eyes drifted around the chambers, finding it something that entirely reminded Filix of Aesculus. She couldn't explain it... it just had that 'him' feeling.
"It's so large!" Filix took the box, starign at him and then at it. Before doing anything, she leaned over the box to give him a one armed hug, and then sat in a chair with it in her lap to open it.

Inside was a cake that seemed to be dripping with chocolate. It was a chocolate cake with whipped chocolate icing and only a touch of vanilla around the rim to help accent the flavor. A thick ribbon of dark chocolate went around the side of it and ended in a carved, solid chocolate bow.

"Oh, wow." Filix stared at it, her taste buds tingling slightly at just the idea of what this cake would taste like. She stared at it a bit more, before placing the box on the table and standing to hug Aesculus. "It looks delicious... and fancy. I'm afraid I might end up sitting it somewhere just to look at it, it looks so good."

"Well, I do hope you'll eat some of it." He leaned over her to look at it, as if to make sure somehow it hadn't gotten damaged for the small amount of time it spent in his drawer. It was indeed fully intact with not even so much as a glob of icing stuck to the side due to his diligence.
"And you ought not to think it's too fancy... it's barely worth the attention of a countess, really, but it was the best I could find on such short notice, I'm afraid, and that I thought had enough taste."

Filix noticed the exact perfect state of it as well, and she couldn't help but be amused at that. Amused, and slightly taken back, why would anyone be so ... so... exact and careful over a thing for her?
Not that she was complaining, of course.
"I think it is perfect, Aesculus. Would you join me in having a piece of it?" Filix glanced up at him, grinning. "The smell is so wonderful, I'm afraid I couldn't resist a taste for much longer anyway."

He blinks a few times as if he had not anticipated her suggesting this at all. After all, it was a gift for her, and why would he think of someone sharing their gift? Knowing that she'd prefer him to have some with her and that it would be more polite, he nodded once and opened the chest at the end of his bed, digging around in its depths looking for suitable tableware.
"I'm afraid I wasn't prepared for this, so you must forgive my poor plates and silverware as well as a lack of drink. I hope it will not be too intolerable?" sweatdrop This lack of preperation surely was not the best way to impress her. >_< Damnit.

Filix shook her head, not sure if she felt bad or amused for making him so flustered. She stuck with the 'felt bad' part, and answered, "I don't mind what I eat on, it's who I eat with that matters. And I think I can tolerate your company for a short while."
Of course, as she'd spoken, it turned a little teasing and Filix gave him her warm smile, hoping it'd put him at ease a bit. She really didn't mind about the state of silverware or the lack of drink, Filix was happy enough to just be around him.
Even if she was now making him appear to go a bit panicked. Filix glanced away, trying to think of something to do to make him relax, she didn't want to cause someone to get so... so... she wasn't sure. There were so many things she didn't understand about this.

Finally he dug out two plates that were some off-white color that bordered on beige, and two rather plain forks that looked as if perhaps they had been used a long time ago because of their imperfections. Indeed they had been his parents and he had slowly scoured away the grime and made them as good as new, despite a few little dints and bends that came with hand-made tools. A knife accompanied them, but it was a new once that Sy had bought him a little while ago.
"Would you like to cut the cake or shall I?" It was a bit hard for him to let himself unwind and let down the walls, even when he wanted to. "This company isn't very skilled at serving food, I warn you."

"It's all right, I'll cut it." Filix took the knife, and very carefully cut two thin slices. She knew that if they'd wanted, they could always cut more. Besides, the cake was so increadbly rich smelling, she had no idea how much would be too much. Better to be safe? She pushed his plate towards him, "Here, I hope it's enough. I can cut more after if not?"
She sat down, and picked up her fork. Filix waited for Aesculus, before taking a slow bite and... Oh... that was GOOD... she could die happy right here and now. Filix's eyes went a bit dreamy as she tried to savor the bite. Rich, but so good! She'd picked the right.... right... she'd done something right to have this cake and to be eating it with Aesculus too.

He took his plate with a nod to her and ate it slowly, not to savor the taste, but because it was his manner to take small bites and eat slowly as he was taught in etiquette... although he did find himself giving Filix some sideways looks like he was a shy little boy eating with a girl the first time. As this analogy popped in his head he silently scolded himself and ate a little more quickly so he could speak, as it wasn't exactly polite to talk while in the middle of eating.
@___@ Oh dear god, this was a lot of chocolate. After she left he'd most likely make a mad dash to get a drink of water so that he wouldn't have the sweet taste of the cake lingering in his mouth all blasted day long.

Filix continued to eat slow, knowing that if she did, she'd not eat as much in the end. And the last thing she wanted to do was to gain too much weight, that'd to terrible things to her sword training.
...she should really tell Aesculus about that sometime, Filix realized as she looked down guiltily at the cake. But she wasn't sure how he'd react to the idea, a female and a Countess... secretly training to be a knight for the court, and training to disguise herself to pass as a stranger without telling anyone.
Maybe she shouldn't tell him, what if he didn't understand?

After he had finished he set down his plate and fork and started to plan what he would say as she finished eating. His Kithain often worried that he "overthought things" and only complicated some more simple affairs, but what he could gather from his emotions and what he had gleamed from women, they were a very confusing matter. He had a feeling that Cervus would find him planning everything to say to Filix and what to do like a well-orchestrated battle amusing.
"Counte- er... Filix. I want to apologize if, like you indicated last time, I come off as slightly cold. My father and now I after him have to be calm and collected at all times so that we may never be rash and I fear that this has made it... difficult for me to 'relax and let down my shackles' as my Kithain puts it." He paused, finding himself at a loss of how to explain and apologize, and then started to wonder if he was apologizing foolishly.
Gah! His rational thought was so easily pushed aside with her! His tongue was lax and his mind wandering to more physical urges and desires, and he found himself both ashamed and amazed at these changes. Did all such practiced and learned people fall on their faces so easily at the other sex as he did?

Filix put down her own fork, and pushed the empty plate away a few inches. She glanced sideways at Aesculus, finding it hard to concentrate. But she heard the general meaning of what he was saying, and Filix tried to figure out how to reply to that. "You don't need to apologize. It's just something I've been not as used to, living with an expressive kithain and her girls. I admire you, and how you can keep a clear head throught everything. ...although, I like it just as much when you relax."
She shifted her chair closer, reaching out to take Aesculus's hand in an almost-shy mannor. Filix still wasn't sure what was right or not, and it showed. "Besides, I feel like it's me who should apologize for making you think you need to."

He found himself confused again by her touch, thinking more of how she smelled and how soft her skin was than her words. After a few moments he digested what she had said and decided it was best if he simply passed it off as if he had been thinking about what she had said instead of wondering about her hands.
"You feel badly about making me think I need to relax?" He smiled a little, realizing they would keep apologizing all night at this rate.
He quietly took their plates and forks and set them on top of the chest, itching to do something. With him being idle, it was only worrying more. When his carefully constructed wall against the waves of emotion started to teeter he knew they could break in anger, sadness, and also most likely passion. It wasn't love, because he didn't know her enough to love quite yet... it was just some sort of primal passion that dwelled inside him.

"No, I feel badly about... um." Filix relaxed a bit, smiling at him. They were acting a bit silly. "How about we agree to not be sorry for the rest of the time we're here together? I'll agree if you do."
She watched him, unsure about what he was feeling, but that only made Filix's mind move faster. She couldn't help but watch him, and stood up to stand near him. Filix wasn't sure what to do either, maybe they could go for a ride, or a walk, or something? It wasn't that there was a lack of things to do, it was that she wasn't sure which was the right one to suggest. He'd have to decide then. So she nudged him with her arm gently, "Feel like doing anything?"
