As they fell away from her the petite ghoul felt something else fall away as her mind began to wander. It wasn't a normal wander either...
"W-well I could feel it you know..." She was muttering to herself over her breakfast, looking down into the bowl with a serious look on her face. She'd been trying to prepare herself for a long while now. There was a sigh and she went to move...
But the noodle wouldn't let go of her spoon and the more she tugged at it the harder it pulled back. "H-hey!"
In a moment her head was in the bowl and it was stuck and she grabbed both sides, trying to yank herself free. It wouldn't budge and she could feel the suction around her. The only thing to do was bash her head down several times until it broke, and for good measure she ate it all, bowl with it.
Huffing as she finished she shook her head. "Breakfast shouldn't be this hard, 'specially if you're trying to get advice from it." Why was everything from her dreams from her food giving her such a hard time lately?

You flex your new-found claws, the crystals clinking slightly, whispering something and nothing at all. They were better. They made you better, the vacant space around your heart filling in with darkness--
Maybe it's just the dream talking.
You slash at another set of strings.

Jack found himself suspended, which wasn't to say that was uncommon for his dreams when they did occur. Given the context of the what the previous two figures had told him, this was to be Alice.
He was both impressed by her construction (which must have been made quite lovingly, given how close its lifelike reactions were to something sentient) and unimpressed by it (no redundancies to shackle an AI, let alone cut off the childish act). It was really too bad there wasn't more time to actually study it. Perhaps fragments would be obtained after this?
A dagger was available, and he began to use it as the AI began its monologue.

Damn strings were tougher than they looked. He reviewed what he had gleaned from Chel's notebook idly as he worked on them.
(( Do you suppose a queen will be arriving? )) Owain asked curiously. He seemed more eager than anxious at the idea.
I'm not prepared for an interview if that's what you mean.
The AI seemed to be tapping into his memories for something, as he could see the vague form of his mother start to appear. If it was attempting to conjure up a nightmare, then Jack just had to smirk. There was no fear left with that woman: only disinterested bitterness.

With a feral sound, you tear down the last of them, claws gouging into the wood and eyes brimming up with hatred, you will have your freedom and surrender it willingly, not by force, not to something so infantile and weak.
You are anything but. You are strong-- and then, you cut yourself entirely free.

Annoyed with his progress, the dagger became a sword that cut through the Gordian knot of his strings. For a moment he was sure that was that; one blink and he was back in his room, the coffee warm and ready, a pile of new notes to pour over.
Only the words were beginning to crawl and jitter on the page like ants. Jack watched with raised brows and let it go on uninterrupted as the words literally left the files and began to scurry towards him, merging together into a hand, two hands, inky eyes.
Oh. Well then--
"I would like your heart," she asked him quite politely as the ink began to consume and stain him, strangely warm. Burning up quickly. "At least, if you aren't using it."
"Mm." He sat quite calmly and allowed himself to be swallowed, a little smile on his face. "Wouldn't you."
You don't need it." It was in his eyes until all he saw was her, his skin coming to a boil as his organs were slow cooked.
"And you do?"
"I'm not done with you yet."
"And that makes two," he concluded simply as his brain cooked in the warmth of her embrace.

His heart wouldn't stop racing, not for hours after he'd returned to his room. He had been able to distance himself from Wonderland easily enough through distractions and careful self analysis, but this...
Brenley pushed his back against his headboard and drew his knees up to his chin, the tattoos twining around his calves glowing faintly in the darkened room. They were only supposed to activate when he was being threatened. Perhaps feeling threatened was enough when the emotion was this strong. He failed to notice when they gradually began to fade. His head tipped forward and his breathing slowed. He didn't notice that either.
Time passed, though he couldn't have said how much, and when Bren awoke, he was no longer in his room. He sat on the floor instead of his bed, and the only illumination in the hall came from the door at its end. Two figures flanked the portal, appearing to talk quietly amongst themselves. As he approached, he realized they were talking to him.
Send her back to sleep.
Who?
Bren exhaled his held breath when Alice appeared to him. "No." They had stopped her. She was no longer a danger. And yet... Bren could so easily recall what had happened behind the black door, even though he had done everything in his power to push it away. She had been the one who caused it, and surely it was she who kept it lingering, eating at his thoughts when he should have been pondering better things.
Cut the strings, break free.
He was awake again, lying flat on his back when before he had been sitting up. His lantern was clutched in his left hand, and the room was positively packed with strings. The only way out was to burn them. If only he could move.

As quickly as he had awakened, Brenley was back in the dream, this time confronted by the creature behind the black door. He was holding his lantern from the world of Wonderland, and it fit in his hand more comfortably than his katar ever had.
There was no one else around, just him and the monster, but Bren was not afraid. It watched him with mismatched eyes, some large part of it the undead ghoul who had eventually been ejected from its form after all of the suicide had ceased. She had seemed kind before they'd ventured inside. Now, she needed to be put down.
He held the lantern high, almost as a warning, then tossed it in a high arc at the creature, lighting it ablaze instantly.
Break free.
Back in his room, a handful of strings caught, shriveled, and died on Bren's mattress.

Maybe this was reality?
Bren sat upright without remembering having moved, his skin slick with sweat. The lantern burned brightly beside him, rendering everything outside of its radius as good as invisible. He could move again, but as he swung his feet to the floor, he felt the strings waiting there in the dark. He kicked at them, then lifted the lantern, burning several more.

What the hell. He was supposed to have beaten this. He looked at Alice and felt panic rising. If they hadn't escaped her before, how the hell could he escape her now? How could he get away from something that literally followed him back into his life? He started to back away.
"Not now."
The voice echoed in his head and his brows furrowed. He focused on it, followed it calling out a soft "Ava?"
He woke up with a gasp and immediately struggled, but it was no use. He was trapped in a maze of thread.
"Cut the strings, break free."
That... definitely wasn't Ava. But he'd take all the advice he could get. He summoned his weapon and began to hack away.
