Matt Alfen "Nice to meet you as well, Maggie." Matt replied with a nod. He tilted his head again when she said that looks could be deceiving, basically a definition for Matt. "Ah, I see. I'm the kind of person who doesn't really talk much to people. It's only because I move around a lot. Must have been tough not being able to talk to many people while growing up." He replied curiously as he looked at her. He was carefully choosing his words so that he wouldn't reveal his deception.

By that comment, she had only meant to suggest that the boy was most likely an interesting person. She didn't like it when people talked down on themselves. Maggie wouldn't have guessed anything about the boys history, let alone see past his friendly face. "Well, it wasn't all bad, I had my father and everything." She paused, not wanting to open up that can of worms. Instead, she changed the subject, "What about you? Moving around a lot. Must be tough."

Matt Alfen "I see, that's good." Matt replied and thought a bit at her comment about him moving around a lot. "Well, it was tough in the beginning, but I've gotten used to it at this point where it's just a normal thing." He replied honestly, it was true that he has gotten used to traveling to a different earth time after time. But, it was clear that he didn't really want to talk more about that at the current moment. "So, what brings you to the park?" He asked curiously, changing the topic from him.

She noticed that he didn't want to talk about himself. It was odd, yet she didn't very much like talking about herself either. "Oh, I just like taking walks. I change it up the route sometimes, depending what I want to do." She wished her life was a bit more interesting, then she wouldn't be sounding so boring right now. At least, she thought so. Maggie couldn't very well just talk about all the times she had to kill someone. That would be inappropriate. "What about you? Waiting around for a hot date?" But that was appropriate, right?

Matt Alfen Matt nodded a bit when she said that she liked taking walks and that she liked to change the route sometimes depending on her mood. "Well, changing it up is a nice thing to do, I can easily agree with that." He replied with a light smile before chuckling lightly at her comment about waiting for a hot date. "Unfortunately I am not waiting for a hot date, mainly because I don't really have an interest in dating or things of the like." He replied honestly with a light shrug, a little of his true personality slipping out. "But, that's just because I moved around too much and was too focused on school to get an interest." He added as a supplement to his previous comment.

"No?" She tilted her head quizzically. "That's weird", she replied bluntly in response to his disinterest in dating. Not that she should talk, never being romantically interested in anyone herself. That's two things in common now. "What do you do to enjoy yourself then?" She made it sound as if all boys his age were only interested in dating.

Matt Alfen "Nope." Matt replied to her questioning 'no' and chuckled a bit. "It's not that weird you know? There are a lot of people that are like that." He explained with a wry smile and tilted his head a bit at her question. "Well, I read books, mainly history, technology, and magic based ones. Though I do enjoy some fantasy books as well." He stated his interest. In a normal standpoint, this would just be a healthy interest, but in Matt's view, it was information that he could use to learn about the world he was in and how it resembles previous worlds and on top of that, most of the weaknesses he learned of monsters he's fought in magical orientated worlds were from fantasy books in other worlds. So, he doesn't even take fantasy books lightly, though he also reads the science based books as well to see how science is compared to other worlds as well.

"Oh, so you're an indoors-y type",she nodded in understanding. That was just a nice way of telling him that she thought he was boring. She didn't care for books much, she had a hard to sitting down and focusing on a story. She would rather spend time with real people. "What about friends? What do you do with them?"

Matt Alfen "That depends on your definition of indoors-y type, I am usually outside." Matt replied with a light shrug. He truly didn't care if people liked him or not, though there were exceptions to this case, but that was for him to know. At her next question, he let out a dry laugh. "None. I've moved around a lot during the last seven years, about 340 times. I didn't live anywhere long enough to make friends. Though during the time I was seven till I was ten I did learn martial arts, and I still keep training to this day." He explained with a light shrug. It was obvious from the look he had that he was so used to moving around that he stopped bothering making friends, though in reality he just didn't like people.

Her face dropped. She didn't know what to be horrified about first, the amount of times he moved or the fact that he had no friends. "Three hundred--? That's more than forty times each year!" She didn't care if he was exaggerating. To move so often that you couldn't make friends was so sad to her. She wondered why he looked so unconcerned about it. This poor soul. "Well, you're staying here, right? This place is a good place to start"

Matt Alfen "Haha, yeah. It's quite the amount, but you can see why I read a lot, correct?" Matt replied to her with a wry smile. The look of surprise on her face was quite amusing in his eyes as he watched her somewhat over-reacting. When she faced him again, he saw a look of pity in her eyes which really pissed him off, but he didn't let that show on his face. "True, but I may end up moving again soon enough unfortunately." He stated with a light frown that seemed to show his unhappiness, which he in reality had no unhappiness to show, of not making friends.

"Well, yeah, but…" she started, in reply to his reading. Up until her fourteenth year, she had lived with her father, and didn't have any friends her age. In hindsight, that was pretty sad, but it made it easy to try to relate to him. If only she knew how little he cared about making friends. Instead, she saw his tiny frown and felt a pang of pain herself. "Nooo….What the heck do your parents do to move around so much?" She seemed almost mad at his parents for putting their kid through so much. Maggie, for some reason, had some pretty intense maternal instincts.

Matt Alfen It seemed that she got the point about the reading, or at least what he wanted her to believe as she started to think deeply. Once again, he saw that look of pity in her eyes as she questioned what his parents do to move around so much. "Archaeologists. Travel comes with the job, and please don't blame them." He said to her in a slightly more serious tone, and for a moment there was a feeling of pressure, or better known as killing intent, on the girl before disappearing as quickly as it appeared. His smile came back and it was as if his true personality hadn't leaked out. But, it was obvious that touching the subject of his parents was a no go if she were going to complain about them. "It's because of them that I like history. You can learn a lot that can help in the future just by knowing the past." He explained with a light smile, almost as if he was lecturing her.

"Oh….Oh", her face softened, realizing that it wasn't going to do any good to attack his parents. She felt kinda bad about it now. He probably has a great relationship with them, which would make sense. "Yeah….I guess it's good to learn about all that stuff. Instead of learning from your own mistakes, you can learn from others", she smiled lightly. A question popped into mind, "Since you like to learn so much…what makes school so bad?"

Matt Alfen It seemed like she had calmed down a bit and didn't say anything that Matt would have made her regret. He let out a light smile at her question about of why he didn't like school despite enjoying learning new things. 'Well, the main reason is because I hate being around other people.' He thought to himself bluntly before speaking, "Ah, well it's usually the teachers themselves, they make it sound more boring than it actually was, and a lot of the time they didn't have all the information on the certain parts of the subject we learned that could easily have been found on the internet. And there are those teachers with a high pride that got mad when I corrected them on mistakes, even though I was right in the end. It's rare to find a teacher who is truly passionate about teaching and does it well." He said with a wry smile as he looked at her. It was obvious that while he did enjoy learning, it was definitely hard to learn from those sorts of teachers.
