Multi-NPC Event

The new commotion in the Apartment Complex did not go unnoticed by the undead in the surrounding areas. An unseen will drew them closer to the group of survivors, stopping many zombies in their tracks and turning them back towards the active area. This disturbing fact would become much more obvious in about fifteen minutes. By that time their shuffling footsteps and groans would be able to be heard by the survivors. Hundreds of zombies were amassing in the streets as they formed a hive-like group to swarm their target.

As the looming threat approached, another dangerous situation had captured the attention of many of the survivors. A scream and a call for help rang out from one of the buildings, prompting a swift response among the group members. Zach seemed eager to help her and Liam agreed, taking off into the building with his small friend in tow. However, Liam insisted that Zachary had to stay outside. Zach pouted and blubbered a bit but reluctantly agreed. He had his fingers crossed behind his back as Liam turned around to follow the other two who had run in after the plea for assistance. Varyn hadn't even had a chance to take one step before Esmai agreed and started dragging him in the direction of the house. He grinned behind the mask, shaking of the momentary surprise and jogging in. She waited at the door momentarily so he took point, heading into the house with his pistol drawn. As the three entered the house, Varyn gave a 'hold' signal and looked around the first floor. He could hear the infected upstairs and tapped the side of his ear twice and then pointed up to signal that information. He was sure they could hear it too; the undead weren't much for stealth... usually. As they moved in further, little steps could be heard quickly pitter-pattering behind them. Varyn spun sround quickly to see Zach run through their ranks saying, "You're going too slow! They'll get her!" Varyn almost called out for him to stop but squelched the reaction. He knew the zom- ...boy would be just fine. He started off quickly after the boy, making sure to be just behind him while looking like he was rushing. He still checked his corners as to not be blind-sided by any infected still lingering around.

The few infected had made their way into the bedroom with the Zannibal in the lead. It growled in hungry anticipation of its meal when something small ran in from behind and took its legs out from under it. Zach had tumbled headfirst into the mutated infected, causing it to flop over backwards onto the floor. The little pale boy climbed out from under it and asked, "Are you okay?" He seemed as oblivious to the other two zombies approaching as they were to him. The cannibal growled and rolled onto its stomach, pushing itself to get up. It was met with a boot to the face as the 'bush-man' stomped its skull in. Just to make sure it was dead, he removed his machete and lopped off its head. He looked up and saw the other two approaching the girl in the far side of the room, completely ignoring Zach as they walked by him. They even gave him some berth as they passed. It was just one more piece of evidence to compile the case for the boy being reanimated. He was sure the other two had entered in enough time to see it. Either way, he leaped at one of the remaining zombies, severing it at the waist. He had hoped in that short time either the woman or Liam or Esmai had taken care of the last zombie in the room. Well, save the kid anyway...

Dylan heard a growl as the one remaining zombie from their previous encounter had managed to crawl its way all the way to the Complex they were currently at. It grabbed for Emma's leg so he smashed its arm with his bat. It let out an annoyed grunt and an angry growl as it flailed the broken appendage at the boy. Turning its attention to Dylan, the zombie pulled itself forward and took a swipe at the boy. The red-headed athlete didn't hesitate to dodge and then smack its head with the baseball bat. It gurgled out a groan and continued swiping at him, so he viciously brought his bat down on it again. It gurgled and growled, trying to reach for the boy's leg. One more pulpy smack was all the was needed to put the persistent putrid predator out of its misery. He let out a sharp exhale and looked around, not seeing any other zombies for the time being. He wondered how the rest of the group was doing inside, but also decided to stay outside with Emma to be the look-out of the group.

Varyn pulled Esmai and Liam close to his mask after the zombies in the room had been dispatched to quickly say, "We need to talk about Zach after this." Perhaps they would think of it as some kinda of reprimand for his running off into danger, but if they had seen and understood the situation that had just occurred, they might have an inkling as to what he wanted to talk about. After that brief interaction he sheathed his weapons and walked over to the woman in the corner of the room, holding out his hand to her. "Let's go." It was the same cold voice as usual, but at least he was speaking more.

Once they left that building they would head off to the supply apartment which held a great deal of food that was damaged by zombies. There was still a decent amount of food left and a great stockpile of bottled water and munitions. They could gather what they liked from the extensive collection of goods. Varyn started to pack some pare duffel bags he brought over from the closet.

        ────────────────────────────────────────────────

It was safe to say that the events occurring in front of Jacqueline were hectic; the zannibal was close to her now, too close for her liking. She was about to attack it with her sword when a young boy ran straight under it, knocking it over backwards. Jacqueline watched in interest as the boy crawled out from under the zannibal and asked her if she was okay. She nodded curtly, still perceptive of the other two zombies that paid the boy no mind. Odd. She watched as a man in a ghillie suit then proceded to stomp the zannibal’s brain in, much to her delight. She breathed outward as her knuckles and joints loosened, giving her better use of her sword, which she used to kill the last zombie.

The man in the ghillie suit decided that after saving her he was going to make her go with them. She hesitated at the hand offered to her, she didn’t know these people, and groups generally ended up badly. But.. she didn't have anyone else; and this could keep her fed for the next few days.. fine. Jacqueline took the man's hand in front of her and shook it, stating her name; her french heritage giving her voice a strong accent before moving into the middle of the group, nodding her greeting to the group in view.

Jacqueline had not planned with moving with the group that had saved her, but apparently she was being dragged along anyways. She was curious about the boy, who seemed to be hanging around the man named Liam mostly; was he a zombie? It was a practical assumption, the boy was ignored by zombies and certainly seemed to be immensely pale. Jacqueline thought on it, deciding not to confront anyone about it, but instead wait it out to see what the group did. The man in the ghillie suit seemed to know, with the way he looked at the boy regularly, sometimes glancing at Liam who looked to be the boys protector.

Jacqueline walked along with the group as they made their way to the safe house; and had to mentally keep her mouth shut as she saw the amount of food stored in it. How had she not found this before. Jacqueline watched as everyone went about, grabbing their own food; and she went and picked at some of the food, making sure the man in the ghillie suit, Varyn; she thought his name was, saw her putting food in her pack. She made sure Varyn could see her, because if he was displeased with her actions he could say no, also; by making sure that he could visibly see her putting things in her pack, he couldn't accuse her of stealing later on down the track. Well. That was the plan at least.

Esmai sidestepped at the doorway, successfully leading Varyn to the building. She was entirely sure that if she hadn't, he still would have jumped at the scream's origins. She may have annoyed him with the premature tug in the building's direction but she had no way to know. He didn't say anything either way. In the time he moved around her and the big guy to get ahead, she pulled her gun. She caught the big guy readying himself should he need to hack something with the ax he held. She wanted to watch that less than she wanted to watch Varyn punt another head down an alleyway. She instead kept her eyes up and on Varyn and his signals until the kid sprinted by them. He made a beeline for the upstairs and to the zombies. Esmai cringed and Liam immediately ran after him, forgetting the warning Varyn flashed about the zombies.

The 'bush man' still made it in ahead of Liam. Two zombies were promptly eradicated. Esmai raised her gun towards the last zombie, but seeing the unfamiliar girl come up on it, she removed her finger from the trigger and lowered it. Didn't want to risk accidentally hurt the girl if she wanted to kill it instead. And she did handle herself. A sword was swiftly cleaved into the last rotting zombie's head. Having not shot and able to watch the scene, Esmai did notice something odd arising. The boy attracted no attention from the room's zombies. She wanted to call him lucky and she wanted to be thankful for the negligence of zombies... but it didn't feel right. Her gut was unwell and it wasn't from the stench of corpses weeks fermented. Not entirely, at least. Liam had almost noticed the zombies' behaviors, but didn't register what it might have meant. He just knew that Zach as alright, unbitten, unscratched, and they all were fine. He could be content in that. He didn't think the bush man could, however. He didn't really want to talk about Zach with him. He removed his attention from him and back to the kid. He knelt in front of him with a solemn expression. "Zach. Please don't do that again. You coulda been hurt." He patted his shoulder with a large hand. He was sure they were both going to be chided for Zach's brave charge into help the girl they've met only now. He didn't know how he felt about that. Esmai, on the other hand, was taking a better look at Zachary now. He held traits that the woman Hoarder had. Bloodlessly pale, sunken features, lack of healthy glow. Liam was talking to him, so she didn't say anything to either of the boys. She patted Zach's back, then Liam's shoulder both reassuringly while passing them. "Glad you're alright," she mentioned to the smaller one. Zach was freezing cold. As if he held no heat at all. That was wrong. There was something wrong and it was with the boy. She pretended not to notice.

She caught the girl's name but didn't say anything. She smiled and gave a friendly little wave when she nodded to her and Liam before they made it to the other two group members. Liam was preoccupied with situating Zach on his shoulders again, careful nut to get the kid hit by doorways when they walked through them. He didn't respond.

Both were quiet on the walk to the damaged house. Liam glanced down the street. He knew where they were by the town decorations by a few of the distant buildings. His house would be the next street over. He didn't pause for long and he didn't consider breaking off to get there. This was a large group. He was supposed to stay in a large group. He was staying.

Inside, they all quickly got to packing. Hands were shuffling and shoving, gathering food into the numerous bags Varyn had brought out. But in this time, inside and generally out of a zombie's sight, it would be safer to speak. Esmai glanced up from the bag she was packing. She'd figured out that she was better at packing than Liam was and he was better than carrying than she was. He was becoming a pack mule. She cleared her throat to get some attention. "Hey, I don't think I caught your names before. Since we're going to be doing this together, it'd be beneficial to know what to call each other, no?" She asked with a cordially smile. "I'm Esmai," she offered. She glanced between everyone but Varyn. She didn't expect him to tell them his name. He didn't seem comfortable with it before and now he was in a group of more strangers. But the teenagers were nameless and Jacqueline hadn't introduced herself to them. It was a better time than any for this. Liam looked between the two he'd previously been walking alone with. Tentatively, he responded. "Liam." He slung another bag over his shoulder. Zach could be back up once they were situated and he was ready to go.

☢Just Another Day Here:☢ The Hospital
☠Other Survivors I’m With:☠ Cain and Xenia.
☠And I'm:☠ Heading over to some possible survivorsl.
☠What’s On My Mind:☠ I'm getting a bad feeling about this...
☠OOC:☠ ((Alrighty, here we go!))

Wilhelm shoved an empty magazine into his pocket and retrieved a new one as quickly as he could, securing it into the underside of his rifle. He ignored the four normal zombies that seemed more interested in Xenia and Cain and continued to press fire on the gluttonous abomination that crawled its way to him. It was confusing to him how its head seemed to absorb bullets without stopping its advance. He was now firing in shorter bursts at the ever-closer zombie until it was nearly on him. Its swift reach surprised him as the creature latched onto his ankles. He reflexively leaned forward to counter act the pull, staying on his feet but far too close for comfort. He shoved the barrel of his M4 into its head and fired until the undead beast stopped moving and its grip loosened. He probably only had a few bullets left in his clip, so he turned and shot one of the four zombies by the other two in his group. He hadn't realized how heavily he had started breathing after that thing grabbed him. He could feel the adrenaline pulsing in his veins from the near-death experience. Once the other undead had been dispatched by his teammates Wilhelm and his group moved on towards the shouts and survivors they had become aware of. It seemed like they had already moved on into a broken apartment and two were standing watch.

"Hallo!" Wilhelm called out with a smile, "I would like to speak with you!" He walked forward calmly, not tying to seem like he was rushing at them. He quickly slung his M4 onto his back and continued towards the two teens staying guard outside the house.

Varyn had been able to hear the familiar sound of gunfire outside for a bit of time before things went silent. Whether or not those people who were shooting survived, he knew that many infected were just around the corner. They had even less time now. Varyn turned back to the group to see that they were indeed all packing away food and supplies. He scanned the room quickly to see how far they had gotten. There was no way they could move all of the supplies and there was definitely no good way about figuring out what to grab by expiration date since that would take up too much of the precious time they didn't really have. His expression soured behind his mask, knowing full well that the larger group was going to be even more of a pain to handle. It didn't help that he had given his word to let the teen boy lead the group. He watched as it seemed like the newest member made herself very obvious among the group while packing supplies. That was noted very quickly and he marked her as someone who did not want trouble within the group. That was helpful but also something to remember. Either way, he felt mildly better knowing that there was another surviving woman. He had noticed that everyone seemed to know very little about the situation at hand. For the first time, he physically reached up and scratched his head in a mildly perplexed notion. It was ended abruptly as Esmai attempted to create introductions among the group. He once again said nothing. He still didn't find any use in telling others his name. Besides, he already knew everyone here besides the newest addition to their group. He had no knowledge that she had been in the city. Zach piped up for a small moment and quietly offered, "I'm Zach... hi."

Dylan had walked into the apartment and let out a long whistle. "You sure weren't kiddin' when you said you had a lot of supplies stashed away, huh?" The kid was impressed and gave him a nod of approval. He was just in time for introductions. He smiled and decided it would be better to get it out of the way now, especially since he was the leader of the group. "Nice to meet you guys. I'm Dylan, and I'm heading this group right now. I'm gonna go keep an eye out while you guys pack. When a couple of you are done getting stuff, we can cycle the watch." With that said, he walked back outside. Varyn had started to pack a few of the bags that were left over when he heard a human voice, laced with a familiar accent he had recently come across.

"Hallo!" An unfamiliar voice cut the now silent air, causing Dylan's head to swivel towards the noise. His bat picked itself off the ground and found itself placed in both of the kid's hands. He was not about let someone get towards this group unnoticed. "Guys, we've got company- and they're alive!" he called back into the house quickly before turning back to stare down Wilhelm and the two others behind him. "I would like to speak with you!" The foreign man called out to Dylan, but the boy wasn't letting down his guard. "You can say what you have to say from there!" Dylan growled back, not trusting a group that looked outfitted for war. That was when Varyn stepped outside and saw part of the group he had expected now.

"Alphonse? Mein Fruend! Hast du mich vergessen?" The bush-man stopped walking forward, stunned at the mention of his teacher's name. Varyn did not like coincidences. His mind raced as he contemplated how this man would know who Al was. It couldn't be anyone else. After all, he was wearing the same Ghile suit that Al had worn. Now this survivor had piqued his interest. Unfortunately, Varyn did not know any of the language this man spoke. He frowned behind the mask as he tried to remember anything that could have been said about this man by Al. Unfortunately, he drew up blank. He quickly walked out towards the man wordlessly, trying to gauge any reaction he could receive. Wilhelm stepped forward but pulled out a combat knife quickly from his shoulder sheath. Varyn stopped and pulled out his machete from off his back. Wilhelm's face soured and he put the knife away. "You do not know who I am, do you?" he questioned the man sadly, "Then the only question I have for you is if you know the man of which I speak. You hold many similarities to him."

Varyn quickly approached Wilhelm and stood right in front of him to pass on a quiet message. "Al was my mentor. I can't remember anything about you in his stories."
"Ah, but you have heard his stories then, no?"
"Yeah."
"Ich bin Wilhelm Steinherz, das Verrücktes Wunderkind."
"Prove it."
"Ich muss mehr oft schlafen, Fruenden von mir." The German man said, pulling out his knife and pretending to whittle away at a piece of wood.
"Not convincing."
He snapped his fingers, pulling out a smaller blade and unsheathed it to show a small beaten blade and held it out to Varyn, who took hold of it and looked it over, finding the nicknames of many people, including Al.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm honored. My name is Varyn, but please don't use it unless you need to." They shook hands after the knife was returned to Wilhelm and their near-silent conversation continued.
"Like wise, we have a group in the hospital and a safe place to stay- you and your group are welcome to join us."
"I don't wish to insult your intelligence, but this city is no longer safe. You should come with us; we are leaving as soon as possible."
"Not at all, please explain."
"There is a group of extremely dangerous mercenaries and their army of undead that they control through Zombie Hoarders coming through the City to wipe out all survivors. We need to leave as soon as possible."

They both nodded to each other and then he followed Varyn into the apartment. Varyn ushered the two teens in and stood guard outside after telling the three new survivors to pack up supplies and get ready to move. "There are more survivors at the hospital, including a child." he told Dylan, who immediately said: "We're going to get them before we leave." and continued to pack. Varyn nodded, glad to hear that the boy chose to help them without coercion.

Wilhelm walked in and introduced himself and his group. "Hallo! I'm Wilhelm, and this is Cain and Xenia. We are new to your group, and I hope that we won't impose too much."

Jacqueline had been stuffing supplies into her pack with much more speed and less obviousness when she was satisfied that someone at least had seen her stuffing her pack with the provided food and had not said anything against it. She had a sealed bottle of water in her hand when the sounds of not so distant gunshots reached her ears. Her right hand instinctively reached for the sword on the ground near her, but her reach fell short when she noticed no one else seemed to react dramatically to the sound. Jacqueline looked up at the blonde, Esmai, as she stated her name and invited others to do the same. Jac was never one for talking, especially about trivial matters such as names, but she figured that in order to stay in the group she would have to show at least some courtesy; and saying her name wasn’t too hard. ”Jacqueline, or Jac; if you prefer.” She said, not bothering to look around the room at the others as she spoke.

The introductions being thrown around the room were observed through peripheral vision and absorbed into her memory by Jacqueline; she’d want to know which names to call if she were to fall into trouble, or through another roof. Liam was probably the best bet for help; he looked strong enough to handle himself and a few others at the same time, plus from what she could tell he looked simple enough to manipulate. Zach was the child, well, the speculated zombie rather; he seemed harmless enough at the moment, he could even prove useful in situations really, being able to walk past the other zombies who wished harm on the living.

Esmai was the blonde who started the introductions, the older man in the ghillie suit said nothing, but a younger man who called himself the leader of the group introduced himself as Dylan. Jacqueline stayed quit, only stirring when the shouts of ‘we have company’ reached her ears. Jacqueline stood immediately, curiousity and territorial habit kicking in as she made her way towards the voices. She trailed behind the two men, but was still within a few meters of them as they went to scope out the strangers.

Jacqueline watched as the scene before her unfolded, the man trying to speak to the group was German, Jacqueline could tell from the very few words that she picked up, but she couldn't tell what he was talking about. She watched the two leaders in front of her talk, and watched as one of the men went and spoke to the German newcomer quietly, and she turned to Dylan to look at him skeptically, she didn't trust people initially, unless they had done something for her first; and even then she was skeptical.

Jacqueline moved back up to the apartment as the two men followed her up; she immediately went back to filling her backpack; and when she was satisfied she swung it, and her sword onto her back. She turned to the German who was introducing himself and two others. She nodded to all three of them; a small greeting, but a greeting none the less. Jacqueline breathed deeply when she learned they were going to the hospital to rescue survivors. Hospitals were never a good idea, too many sick people reside there, too many dead, too many undead.

Before they had left, Nitori and Loretta had decided to stay behind at the hospital. The others were sure to help them secure the room they were in, locking it tightly behind them before heading out to the mall for supplies. It didn't take long before Nitori and Loretta were both snuggled up together fast asleep, exhausted from the the days events. But the day wasn't over yet.

Cain followed the group, sticking close behind Wilhelm as they walked cautiously down the city streets. It was bad to come across undead, but it was almost worse to see the streets competely empty like this. The eerie silence had Cain on edge and the suspense was driving him crazy. Luckily something happened to help with his unease when Wilhelm peeked around the corner of a building then looked back at them with a soured expression. He told them that they would have to turn back because all the zombies that they were not running into before seemed to be consentrated all in the same place right around the corner. Wilhelm appologized for not acting sooner and giving them better chances, but Cain just shook his head.
"Don't worry about it. We can try some other time. s**t happens." He said, his awkward attempt at making the German man feel a little better.
As the group turned around, Cain was surprised that Freyja kept going, determined to get whatever it was that she needed at the mall, despite the hoards of undead. He would have shouted out at her to stop if not for fear that it would attract attention from the zombies and get them all killed. Instead he just gritted his teeth and kept following Wilhelm. At first Cain thought he was just heading straight back to the hospital, but then he took an unexpected turn towards some apartment buildings. Cain was curious, but didn't say anything as of yet. They kept going until some undead showed up, one of them a mutated one, and boy it was ugly. Wilhelm imediatley started firing at it first, telling the rest of them to do the same. Cain didn't hesitate in pulling out one of the guns he was carrying and firing it straight at the things head. It seemed to be invincible, taking the bullets in stride and continuing to crawl towards them in a very disturbing way. The groups gunfire attracted more zombies from other nearby areas and soon Cain had to focus his attention on them and hope that Wilhelm could figure out a way to kill the mutated one.
These bastards were much easier to kill and Cain took out quite a few of them quickly and by himself. It wasn't long before the closest ones were down and Cain could focus on the mutated zombie now latched onto Wilhelm's leg. Cain shot a few rounds into it before Wilhelm took it out with an extremely close range kill shot and the blob of flesh finally ceased to move. The rest of the straglers were taken out easily by their small group and Cain let out a sigh of relief. However, he tensed right back up again as shouts from near by caught his attention. More survivors? Cain's issues with trust kept him from feeling any kind of happiness at this discovery, however, Wilhelm quickly cracked a smile and called out a hello, walking straight towards them. Cain hissed out at him
"What are you doing?!", but it was in vain. The German kept on walking to greet the new Survivors.

Cain looked around helplessly, trying to figure out what to do, before huffing in defeat and running up to Wilhelm's side once again. This time he didn't follow as closely and did keep a good 10 foot distance between him and the strangers, keeping his rifle out and at the ready, unlike Wilhelm who had put his weapon away. Cain watched as a teen boy with red hair told them to keep their distance, obviously just as cautious of strangers as Cain was. He couldn't believe Wilhelm didn't expect this. But the German just took it in stride, continuing to speak with them. Another character stepped out of the building they were at, this one dressed in what Cain recognized as a gilly suit. Intersting. Wilhelm seemed to recognize this and started speaking in German to the man or woman inside the suit. What followed was a conversation Cain didn't understand in the least, even the parts in English. He remained silent, watching intently and pretending he had any idea what was going on. Eventually the conversation started to make sense again as the person in the military suit introduced himself as Varyn. Even though he tried to keep his voice low so only Wilhelm could hear, Cain still caught it. The fact that he was trying to keep it a secret in the first place made Cain suspicious and unsure if he could trust him even though he was being fairly friendly.... sort of.

Cain cringed as Wilhelm told the strangers of their hide out at the hospital, not liking the idea of telling possibly dangerous strangers where a helpless little girl and woman were and damn near making them targets. However, he didn't have much time to dwell on this thought as Varyn told them that they needed to leave the city altogether. Cain listened to his explenation with confusion setting in again, surprised that once again Wilhelm just took it in stride, nodding to the stranger and following him straight inside the building. What the hell was going on? Why did Wilhelm trust this guy so much? Cain would have fought openly on the issue but decided to just trust Wilhelm's judgment for now, going along with what was happening but keeping his caution about him at the same time.

Cain followed a safe distance behind as he entered the appartment complex, seeing even more survivors inside, all of them gathering supplies from the room. He wondered if they would share, since it seemed likely that their groups would be teaming up now if Cain understood the situation correctly, which was questionable at the moment. What confused Cain the most though, and set up a red flag in the back of his head, was that Varyn told the red headed teen that he knew there was a child in the hospital. How the hell did he know about Nitori? Cain didn't remember Wilhelm ever mentioning that to him. The teen replied back that they were going to get them before leaving the city. Cain hoped that was a good thing. He would protect Nitori at any costs, as well as try to protect Loretta and anyone else in his group that he could.

Wilhelm suddenly started to speak, introducing himself as well as Cain and Xenia. Cain cringed yet again at the way Wilhelm seemed to just throw caution to the wind, giving away information about himself, as well as others who might not want him to just go blurting those personal details out. Oh well, it didn't matter now. What was done was done, though he would have to have a talk with Wilhelm later about keeping the confidentiality of the members in his group, or at the very least just Cain's.

For now, Cain just looked around the room, taking into carefull consideration everyone and everything there. He noticed imediately that there was another child among the list of survivors, this one a young boy, looking to be about the same age as Nitori. Another high priority on his list of people to protect. He also took a good look at the rest of the members, some still younger than him, some older or around the same age. They had quite a mix there. After he had commited each of their faces to memory, as well as any names he picked up on, he just stood there awkwardly for a while, not sure of what to do. Since he decided he was a little less of an oddball around kids than he was with people closer to his own age, he went over next to Zach, squating down on the ground closer to the child's level.
"Hey there. You doing ok? I know it can be scary dealing with all this stuff going on. Lucky for you, you have a lot of people looking out for you though. Isn't that right?"He said, motioning around the room to the survivors in the boy's group, particularly the big blonde guy standing next to them who seemed to be the primary caretaker for the child. Cain also included himself in that group of people looking out for the kid, but didn't say so aloud.

OOC: I live! Or, kinda... Anyways, sorry about the extremely long wait, as well as the extremely long post. I had a lot to catch up on. sweatdrop

LOCATION: Stock Apartment XXCOMPANY: Zach, Emma, Dylan, Varyn, Wilhelm, Cain, Xenia, and Jac

It wasn't very quiet in the apartment for long. There were names shared and faces memorized to match those names, and predictably, there was a lack of a specific name. In all honesty, Esmai would've been surprised if Varyn had actually spoken. She didn't know if anyone had noticed his lack of introduction, but with the speed of other speakers, it wasn't likely. There was a lot on everyone's minds at the moment. Liam certainly didn't notice. He tried to remember names, but it was likely that he was going to call them a number of names that were similar to what they should be. He did know Zach's name, however. That could be enough. It hadn't been a day yet and he felt attached to him as he would a younger brother. Esmai was getting the idea that this group had some very introverted thinkers, but they could work together in a pinch. Dylan wasn't nearly as edgy as he was before and he wasn't trying as hard to assert a sort of dominance.

Esmai was content in packing the large extra bags diligently then situating them on Liam. He packed bags messily and wold probably get food crushed on the trip, so as long as Esmai packed them and he carried, they worked out just fine. He managed two duffle bags on his back and one to carry before Esmai decided that he couldn't, or rather shouldn't, carry more. Before she'd finish piling the bags on him, the group was interrupted by more survivors. Esmai was not adverse to welcoming the trio, though she was initially tensed at Dylan's sudden declaration. The stiffness in her muscles was quick to fade, and yet again, as she would for the mention of any survivors, she was curious to who it was. And once again, there was disappointment. Nobody she knew. Who exactly was she even looking for? She didn't even think she knew. Just a face she'd recognize would be nice. There was a voice, beckoning responses out of their group of survivors. It was only a man she heard and she wasn't in position to see through the door just yet. Varyn emerged in the doorway and the man started speaking to him in a second language. Esmai didn't know it and neither did Liam. They could only speculate that Varyn did, although he didn't respond verbally. Varyn left them and approached the man outside with Dylan watching. Esmai wasn't sure of she should be nervous of the unknowns who had approached them, possibly dangerous. Varyn was alone out there and she only knew that Dylan, the closest to the outsiders, had a bat. What would they do if the others turned out to be dangerous? It didn't take long to dawn on her that this was exactly how Dylan, Emma, Liam, and Zach had felt just before. She was still.

They must have been peaceful. It wasn't long until they all came to the door with benevolence. This was very relieving and she trusted that they would be no harm to them within the instant. Varyn trusted them enough, so she would as well. She hadn't heard a lick of what they were saying outside or what they'd done. Varyn was telling the new groupies to grab bags and supplies then informed the residing survivors of the location to even more people. Amazing! Esmai hadn't realized she was biting her lip nervously until she was relieved and smiling. The biggest man, who in ways she found similar to Varyn, was Wilhelm. She identified his accent after a few more moments of his speaking. He seemed very capable of handling himself and from what she could see, he was prepared for combat. She'd have to assume that combat was only for zombies. There was Cain and Xenia. Xenia was a name she was not going to forget, though she knew immediately that she was never going to pronounce it correctly. A shame, it was a nice name. The person who fit it was the woman in the trio. She... didn't seem like someone Esmai wanted to cross anytime soon. Then there was Cain. He almost had a face she almost recognized, but he was not the man she had in mind. There were many differences. Perhaps it was his figure and nose. She didn't know. It didn't matter.

She offered another small wave to the new survivor trio gladly. Liam didn't do much to show a greeting. He sort of just stared at them all. In his head, he was trying to remember three more names. He was distracted, but began paying attention once again when the thinner boy approached Zach. Liam didn't say or do anything besides watch him warily. He didn't know Cain or that he was safe to be around Zach, but he had nothing to hold against him. He was tense. Esmai poked Liam's elbow to get his attention on the bag she had for him and not on Cain. It didn't take a detective to see he was uncomfortable with Cain so suddenly by Zach. Liam was easily distracted by the bag that was being nudged towards him and he lifted it over his head and onto his back. This one had as my bottles of water as they could manage. Moving around wasn't stealthy with the water sloshing around every step unless he moved painfully slow. So which was worse? They needed the water. So either he would move slow but quietly but be paced and make noise. That was really Varyn's jurisdiction. Or was it Dylan's? She glanced at him, determining what what in his head by the position of his face. Would Wilhelm have a word, too? Was he going to try and be the leader, too? Oh, that might be an issue. There were enough leaders there. But they may have to follow him since he had more survivors at the hospital. Which rose a concerned question, namely directed to Wilhelm. "Is the hospital secure? Those usually have a lot of... unfortunate losses in them, don't they? Not that they can't handle themselves, I'm sure they can, but there could be mutated in there. Should we be hurrying there?"

boopooc: wow there's a lot of people in there now (something bad's going to happen, isn't it?)

☢Just Another Day Here:☢ The Apartments
☠Other Survivors I’m With:☠ Cain, Xenia, Zach, Varyn, Dylan, Emma, Jacqueline, Liam, Esmai.
☠And I'm:☠ Heading over to the Hospital.
☠What’s On My Mind:☠ We need to get to Nitori and Loretta.
☠OOC:☠ ((I'm so sorry for the lateness! >.

Wilhelm was truly amazed by how many people had been amassed together, especially if he was to assume that it was the teenage Dylan's doing. That couldn't possibly be correct. He was certain that Varyn was simply allowing the boy to front as the leader for some unknown reason and gathering them all together to keep as many people alive as possible. There was certainly strength in numbers, but they all would have to be willing to work together. Teamwork was not really a term Wilhelm believed many people had in their vocabulary- definitely not when their lives were on the line. He couldn't be certain how well things would play out in the group, especially when survival and personal feelings were concerned. With that thought in mind, he turned to look at Xenia and Cain. Xenia was doing something or other and Cain was near the little boy... his name was Zach if conversations were correct. He noticed that Cain seemed to be pretty uncomfortable. He couldn't blame the guy for being out of sorts in a large group of people, especially since they could potentially be dangerous. They were still strangers after all, even to Wilhelm. Well, except for Varyn. That was a bit different though- the man was obviously a protégé of one of his closest friends and valued allies, Alphonse. He wondered if that meant Al was dead... or simply hiding. It wasn't like him to take to a person and adopt them as his pupil. He brushed the thought aside as he heard a woman's voice pipe up during their group integration.

Turning to face the blonde girl, he smiled and assured her that it was more safe than she imagined. "Not to worry, miss. I've eliminated all threats on all floors over time and secured the building to be difficult for infected to breach the interior, whether accidentally or intentionally." He frowned for a moment when he remembered the scuffle that occurred in the entrance. "Now that I think of it, there was a Brawler that ran through the front entrance earlier today. It is dead, but it left a rather large gap in the entrance towards the gift shop. Ehm..." He paused and trailed off, trying to phrase things properly in English. "Ah yes. We have ample firepower to take on what may be there. Also, if you haven't noticed, the Untoten have been gathered in an area around the Mall and the streets near there. So the likelihood of there being many, if any at all, is slim." Once he was finished, his eyes rested back on the boy. His face remained smiling, but his eyes held a critical sheen to them. He looked over to Varyn and made some subtle hand and finger motions and flicks. They were reciprocated quickly and then Wilhelm began to walk out of the apartment.

"Shall we head to the Hospital then?"

Multi-NPC Event

Dylan looked around at the new additions to his group and tried to size them up. Emma had been staying quiet for so long that he had nearly forgotten that she was standing right next to him. There were two new guys and a new girl. The new girl seemed older and definitely not someone he wanted to cross... at any time. The way she held herself and did not speak made him a bit uncomfortable. He pegged her as the serious type that was entirely capable of killing without batting an eye. He contained a small shudder before his body reacted to the thought and sighed, turning his attention to the guy who spoke the most. He wasn't sure what to make of the guy, really. On the surface he seemed like a very happy and friendly guy who had trouble at times speaking English. He didn't know where the guy was from, but he could tell that the man was a soldier. His outfit and weapons screamed combat. He didn't particularly trust the guy. He was way too friendly for a soldier and was definitely a foreigner. If he had been with the military, that was even more of a reason not to trust him. After all, it was all their fault that there was an apocalypse in the first place. His eyes followed the last survivor of the group as he approached Zach. He caught that the kid's name was Cain. He didn't know anyone with a weird name like that. Dylan was nervous about having that guy in the group since he was quiet and reminded him of those strange kids that end up becoming school shooters. He was a bit surprised when the guy went over to Zach and treated him so kindly. Cain had even gone so far as to come down to Zach's height. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. That kid reminded him of his older brother. Well, in that sense anyway. This kid was scrawny... his brother was huge, built more like Liam. Whatever. He had a newfound respect for Cain.

Zach was nervous, fidgeting because he didn't know what to do. He wasn't big enough to carry one of the bags himself but wanted to help. He tried to help the nice girl put food and water in bags that they gave to the big Liam. He looked up wit a big grin but noticed that the Liam seemed kinda lost. Then he didn't look too happy and another big kid came over. He grabbed onto Liam's pant leg and huddled closer to him, watching the new big kid come over and crouch down near him. He was a bit confused but what the big kid said was pretty nice. He nodded a couple of times to answer him but wasn't sure exactly what to do. He looked back up at the big Liam and then back to Cain. "Mhm." was his first answer. The big kid was nice and didn't make any fast or angry motions. "Wh-what's your name?" He asked timidly, looking back at Liam before looking at Cain. Liam wasn't doing anything about the big kid and he seemed nice, so Zach felt like he probably wasn't a bad guy.

Varyn Had looked around at the group as everyone finished up packing what they could and got ready to leave. He liked how quickly everyone was working and getting accustomed to each other. He had noticed the lingering uncomfortable feeling in the air and knew that he was running on thin strands of loosely based trust from a number of them. He figured that the only people who trusted him in this group were Esmai, Wilhelm, and possibly Liam. It certainly wasn't very comforting to know that it would probably take very little to have the group turn on him, but he would rather it that way than give them his name. He had to remain detached. He had to be anonymous. If he allowed personal feelings into play or started to favorite some in the group over others, he wouldn't be able to save them all. He hefted the two duffel bags he had packed onto his shoulders when he noticed Wilhelm looking at Zach. It was only for a moment before he turned towards Varyn and made some signals. Good. It was clear that Wilhelm was on the same page as him, even without the overwhelming evidence that he had compiled. Varyn let him know that they would talk on it later and that he was aware as well. That's when the German offered that they should leave to the Hospital.

Everyone seemed pretty ready to go. As Dylan went to put his hand in his pockets, he felt it brush by Alex's revolver. He had completely forgotten about that and frowned, remembering the loss of the coolest teacher he had ever met. He quickly removed his hands fro his pockets and hefted a duffel bag. He was ready to head out but would wait until everyone finished moving.
"Shall we head to the Hospital then?"The newcomer was already moving toward the door, as if it were an order rather than an invitation.
"Hey dude... we're a group here. We don't leave until everyone is ready." Dylan stepped forward to assert his dominance as the group leader.
"Es Tut mir Leid! I guess I'm a bit hasty, yes?" Wilhelm blinked in surprise, not initially realizing his mistake.
"Alright, is everyone ready?" He looked around at the group.
Varyn nodded.
Emma nodded.
"Ja Clar!"Wilhelm sounded off cheerily.
"If Liam is.." Zach piped up.
Once everyone had responded, Dylan nodded in affirmation of everyone's stance.
"Alright then, let's go. Lead the way... Wilhelm, was it?"
"Jawohl!" The German replied, walking out the door with gusto. His demeanor changed as they walked onto the streets, becoming much more serious and cold. He was looking out for anything that could endanger the group. He moved at a very quick pace, eager to check up on Loretta and Nitori as soon as he could. He would not allow himself to be separated from them again.

The trip to the Hospital started off a bit dangerously since there were infected roaming about the streets nearby from the prior firefight between Wilhelm, Cain, Xenia and the zombies. A few infected took notice and groaned, following them. Fortunately enough for the group, the zombies were unable to keep up with their pace and soon fell out of sight. After a good deal of walking, they finally reached their destination. Zach was walking as close to Liam as he could, Dylan was by Emma at the front of the group near Wilhelm, and Varyn was towards the rear. He wanted to make sure that nothing would come up behind them.

Wilhelm directed them through the large gap in the Hospital entrance caused by the Brawler and carefully led them towards the main lobby. Right in the center of the foyer was a chandelier pinning about a half of a dozen dead zombies to the linoleum flooring. "Watch your step." he said quietly, "The floor can be slick at points." He moved around a puddle of blood and worked his way up the first set of stairs, checking each corner before proceeding. He was no longer worried about repairing the entrance since the Krankenhaus was no longer a place deemed safe. He walked down the long corridor, leading them up yet another double flight of stairs and through another hallway. He took a quick right turn at an intersection by some operating rooms and up another flight of stairs. He made his way quickly to the storage room he had furnished and put in the code. He turned the key in the lock and saw his two favorite people huddle up against each other, fast asleep. He walked over to them and leaned down placing a hand on Loretta's shoulder and his other on Nitori's head. "Hallo mein Lieblingskind; meine Lieblingsfraulein. Wake up, we have to go now." he said softly, trying to gently rouse them from their sleep. Then he turned his head to the group momentarily to say, "Take what you want or need from here. I have weapons, ammunition, and medical supplies."

A faint noise familiar to Varyn passed his ears, causing him to stop and turn around. He hoped to God he was wrong, but then he heard the horrid noise again.
"Oh s**t..."

[[OOC: I do want to apologize for the wait guys! I've been so horrendously busy lately that I haven't had much free time. It's amazing that even without work there is just so much I need to do to prepare for BMT. I will be on a plane to head there in only three days. So, unfortunately (and I do apologize once again) I'm sorry that this roleplay will be on hiatus for about two-three months. I add the third month because I don't know when I'll be able to get internet access once in my job-specific school. I promise that I will be back to continue this roleplay. I will be ending Chapter One upon my return (well, once we finish it really xD) and then will be starting up Chapter Two. I hope that you guys will be able and willing to stick around for it, but I understand if that's too long or if you lose interest. Anyway I suppose what I'm getting at is that I'm sorry that I could not finish this chapter with you guys before leaving and that I forgot to make a notice of this much earlier.
I hope you all are doing well and will continue to do well, and I want to thank you for how wonderful you've made this roleplay! ^^ I hope to see you guys on the other side. Cheers!]]

RANDOM ENCOUNTER

Footsteps. Voices. Heartbeats. It was all clearly audible to the creature roaming near the Hospital walls. Excitement welled up in its decrepit brain as the thought of rending flesh and slicing bones ran rampant through its mind. This creature had no eyes or nose. It was blind and unable to smell. However its hearing was second to none, as was its sense of touch. It could feel vibrations and movements of air currents. It could hear as the clothed feet scraped against the concrete. It could pinpoint the location of where the breathing came from. The steps changed intonation, taking on a more hollow and echoed sound. Its face parted in a grim smile, displaying its horrid mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. Its mind raced through previous kills, remembering tracking them down and chasing them until they tired or reached a corner. It wanted to feel the exhilaration of chasing fearful prey; it wanted to hear the acceleration of their heartbeat and breathing. It wanted to feel the excitement of the game, instilling terror and dwindling hope. Most of all, it wanted to experience the symphonic sensation of slicing through flesh and bone: the feel as biological tissue and marrow split and tore, the sound of skin ripping and screams wailing in agony, and the brilliant spray and trickle of warm fresh blood. It was simply... satiating.

It ripped itself from its fantasy and walked forward, following the footsteps it had heard earlier. They were still talking. It followed the patterns of sound it had heard them follow, moving up the stairs and down hallways with ease. As the noises got louder, its teeth began to twitch. Before long it was gnashing its teeth together, filling the air with the sound of knives grating against each other. The breathing and heartbeats were louder.

It rounded the corner.
"Oh s**t."
It stopped to open its mouth in anticipation.
The sound that came out was a low hiss.
It heard people moving and reacting.
Heartbeats were louder and faster.
It jumped forward, sprinting at the group.

Title Event

The caravan was moving far too slow for the Mercenary Leader's taste, but he really couldn't complain. After all, he was in charge of the living and the dead, handing out life and death as he saw fit. Hell, he didn't even have to get up and walk. He was sitting on a comfortable stationary chair atop a large caravan being pulled by the brawn of the undead. It was a dream job, but it was made so much better by the fact that nothing but pure stubborn human survival was stepping in to stop him from completing his goals. Even then, it didn't... couldn't stand against the mass of rotting flesh that flooded the concrete walkways of the Abandoned City. He stroked his beard as he contemplated what they would be in for if they found who they were expecting to be behind the empty nature of there newest location. His brows furrowed a bit as he tried to remember where they had found him. What places did he take shelter in? Where did he frequent? What was his-

"Hey Chief." The woman approached him with a Hoarder.
Damn her timing. "What is it, Maya?"
"Go on then, tell him." She motioned the Hoarder closer and it cautiously made its way to the leader.
Its soft raspy voice hissed out: "Humans were spotted by the troop sent to the Apartment complex as ordered, but the Gorger and group of Normies sent to kill them were annihilated by a group of only three. The Horder in charge, Nicholas, he saw the three meet up with a larger group and a moving bush-"
Laughter caught the Hoarder off guard, making it uneasy. The Chief smiled and leaned forward, presenting the zombie with two small baubles. Its eyes widened in surprise and pleasure.
"You and Nicholas have pleased me. Both of you deserve one. Each. If I find one of you has taken both, you will both die. Go on, and change course to the Apartments."
"I knew he was here." The man smiled and cracked his neck in eager anticipation.
"We're headin' to the Apartments! Yee-haw!" The tall burly man whooped.
"If I may, Leader... the reports show that they headed west, which indicates that they are approaching the Hospital."
"Looking for more survivors?" Maya thought aloud.
"Drugs for the road?"
"Idiot. Brady, not everyone needs to escape reality." came the swift response from the intimidating African poacher.
"No." Their leader leaned forward and smiled. "They have wounded."
The caravan pressed on, closing in on the middle of the City. It couldn't be heard over all the noise, but Brady cussed Martin out under his breath for calling him an idiot.

[[OOC: I'm sorry to leave you on a cliff hanger for now, but I'll definitely be back to finish it up and start the new chapter! I leave today and I'm happy I was able to get this up in time! ^^]]

health: bandaged cut on arm / fine, hungry .. company: Cain, Xenia, Zach, Varyn, Dylan, Emma, Jacqueline, Wilhelm .. location: hospital

What Wilhelm had answered Esmai was initially relaxing. It was good to hear that the hospital had been cleansed of these... devil spawn. They were nasty to handle and face and she hadn't even met many close to face. It was pleasant to know that he was capable of such a feat as clearing out that large of a building. Did that make him equivalent in gunmanship to Varyn? More so? Less than? One thing was for sure, the group was lucky to have them both in healthy and working condition. Perhaps they would work well together. She had to hope they would, being as such since Wilhelm followed that statement with a remark about a previous Brawler situation. Where her eyebrows unknit and she wore a more relieved smile to return his, she changed face to a grimace once more. Though the Brawler was dead, that didn't mean another couldn't break through. Any crack in a fortress was a liability- despite however small it could be. Liam wasn’t all too concerned with the structure of the hospital. The man said he cleared it and Liam trusted that. A part of his nonchalant response may have came from the fact that he didn’t exactly know what a Brawler was. He’d seen one and killed it, but didn’t connect the monstrosity that was with it’s name.

Besides, he was a little more preoccupied with making sure the bags were settled and there would be no incidents on the move. He had the assistance of the smaller girl while she was talking to Wilhelm for a moment, then he felt out the new weight he carried by taking a few step towards the door. It occurred to him that running was not a possibility while carrying those. Or at least, not very fast running. Before he really caught up to what the other members of the group may have been thinking, it seemed as if they were herding towards the door. For a moment he felt reluctant until he could see who else was ready to leave. He knew that the newest three to the group were just that. The newest. They hadn’t been among them for any longer than ten minutes. Now, Liam was a dense minded man, but he knew it wasn’t the best idea to go trotting off with them until the rest of the group was in agreement. Esmai had reason to agree to the move. She was still concerned for the well being of the group in this man’s care, especially the child he claimed to have. She didn’t doubt him. At that moment in time, she couldn’t find it in herself to mistrust someone. People had to band together. There was a safety in numbers. That, and she wanted people around her. She needed it. Dylan stopped the crew before they pressed forward under Wilhelm’s direction. She would have just followed without considering much of it, but he had a point. They were a group and needed to work as such. She could see that well.

Dylan checked with each member he’d known before the event. She watched the silent two nod. Varyn and the light haired younger girl. If she was guessing, Esmai would say the girl was in her teens. But they both remained relatively malleable and wordless. The man with a German accent was gleeful for that. Esmai nodded enthusiastically as well. Zach tied himself to Liam’s decision, and seeing that he was the last to decide, he simply shrugged. He was going to follow whoever was moving. Wilhelm was eager to turn them to the door, but once he was outside, his energy changed entirely and he became much more like Varyn. The flip was peculiar and Esmai noticed it before she did the surroundings. He had good reason to tense. Zombies had gathered into the road again but they all seemed to be normal. Nevertheless, Esmai grit her teeth and placed a hand on the butt of her gun. She didn’t need to pull it, so she didn’t. Liam didn’t draw his weapon either. Instead, he kept a hand on Zach’s shoulder. He couldn't carry the kid at the moment due to the bags and the fact that he was already toting. The group maneuvered fast enough through the open. Though they avoided most attention from the undead, a few did notice them. They never caught up. The group was able to flee the apartments in favor of the hospital without a major catastrophe.

Still, Esmai was tensed and uneasy the entire trip. It didn’t feel right. More so than usual. She hated making predictions, but the anxiety and dread in her stomach discomforted her even still when they arrived at the hospital. For a minute she thought it may be that Wilhelm was going to turn on them. He did not. They slipped through the Brawler’s entrance. Through the trip Liam was verbally silent despite his footsteps being heavy and fairly loud. His perceptions weren’t nearly as good but he was wary of the number of zombies they were traversing by. They all made it safely to the hospital, however. For that he was glad.

Both Liam and Esmai looked around the main room. Liam saw that it was empty of danger, Esmai saw that it was littered with corpses. He was thankful. She was sad. A number of the bodies wore paper dresses. The were patients of the hospital. There were so many of them, an impossibly number. She had to make herself look forward and see that she was falling behind. She trotted back up to the group as quietly as she could.

Ascending a staircase then taking a number of turns, the group found themselves standing outside a specific room. Wilhelm greeted the persons he’d promised were hiding in the hospital then mentioned the supplies he had stashed. She glanced at the number etched on a plaque in the doorway. If it was ever necessary to make a second trip to collect the rest of those supplies, it would be good to know where to find them. However, there was soon an evident chance that they were going to need them immediately. Before anyone had the chance to respond, they were introduced to a new creature with the most peculiar sound. The sound of several knives scraping each other echoed in their direction before they could even see the mutant, but within an instant of hearing that, Esmai felt sick once again.

It rounded the corner and stalked towards the group directly while it gnashed it's terrible knife teeth, then stopped. It's wide maw opened to allow the survivors to see every last tooth it had as it hissed. This was far worse than the zombie cannibal and the Brawler. Esmai, predictably, began to freeze up as she stared down it's open mouth. She was petrified in place and fixated on the mutant, even as it tensed and charged. Liam watched the horrifying nightmare monster but did not reach for his ax. If he'd been alone, he may have attempted, no matter how futile, to fight the mutant. But he was not alone. Zach was with him and he needed to be sure that the kid was safe, above all. While the zombie haunched with it's mouth open and wide, he grabbed Zach as quickly as he could and dropped two duffel bags in the same motion. He was left with his personal bag, one duffel bag, and a small Zach whom he carried under his arm. The monster was sprinting fast, and though Liam didn't want to abandon his group, he wasn't staying near the monster. He didn't know if anyone else was choosing flight over fight but that seemed to be the only option they had. He hadn't a clue the speed the zombie carried or that it was easily capable of catching him if it wished.

    RANDOM ENCOUNTER

There was one heartbeat running off with a small Hoarder in tow. It was too perfect- it could feel the fear flooding into the air. What a sensation! The Gnasher reveled in all of the feelings that erupted into the air, listening to the accelerated heartbeats and movements. The two that ran wouldn't be its first victim- they were worth waiting for and savoring the chase. There was one irregular heartbeat and one strong one in its way. Those would be the first to fall and instill true fear and despair in the rest. Movements were happening as it ran forward, but it paid no mind to them as they didn't concern its first targets. None of the sounds were dangerous ones, only self-preserving ones.

Wilhelm moved his rifle without hesitation even though he had no idea what was outside the door. He wanted to protect Loretta and Nitori, but he would not let others get hurt or die out of his selfish wishes. Soon he heard Varyn tell him to protect them and took the order without question. Varyn grabbed Esmai by her shirt and flung her behind him into the storage room, moving out of the way for anyone else to file in. Dylan, Ema, and Varyn were now in the path of the mutated zombie. The survivor with no name was surprised and thrown off when the teenage girl was shoved into his arms, but he quickly transferred her to the room with the rest of the girls. The boy across from him nodded in his direction and then hefted a baseball bat, charging right at the monster with a yell and a vicious swing. Varyn tried to yell at the kid to get back, but it was too late for that. He reached for the heavy caliber rifle on his back and was met by a sight he hadn't wanted to see again.

The Gnasher bit down on the incoming bat, sending splinters flying in every direction. Its left claw lashed out and lacerated the swinging arm of the unfortunate boy before digging its right claw into his side between his ribs. The boy had just shouted a pained obscenity before the razor sharp maw tore into his neck, damaging his throat but missing the major artery. It leaned in to bite more, tearing through his shoulder is if it were paper. Blood flowed freely from his wounds and all he could do was cough as he entered shock. A rifle's bolt being locked back caught the infected's attention before it could do any more damage.

It reared its head and unlatched from its first victim, sprinting at Varyn without hesitation. He was forced to dodge and roll as it blew past him, but he swiveled and fired, missing a shot on the creature as it rounded the corner after Liam and Zach. "Get out here now, Wilhelm!" came the stressed call from the quiet nameless survivor. "Xenia, Cain, you're in charge!" Wilhelm shouted to them as he shoved an M4 into Cain's hands. As he left, he took a Seiga-12 shotgun from the ground and wheeled into the corridor before flinching at the sight awaiting him. He saw Dylan, the group's leader in near-death state. The best they could do was stop him from bleeding so much... but when he saw the injuries at a first glance, he knew the boy was going to die. Varyn looked up from his busy work on the boy before pointing off in the direction the two survivors and the Gnasher had ran. Wilhelm nodded, understanding without a word what he needed to do. He took off down the hallway in pursuit of the other duo.

The Gnasher was in hot pursuit, catching up to Laim and Zachary far quicker than they would have expected. As it got close, it slowed down and began to grit its teeth together once again in expectation of more fear. It moved in closer to them, waiting for them to find a corner with no way out. Zachary was scared and held on tighter to Liam.

He could barely breathe... everything felt so weird and light. There was pain, but it was dull and throbbing. His vision was blurry and he had a serious headache. There were hints of nausea and dizziness, but otherwise he felt pretty fine. It didn't stick well with him though since he had just felt immense pain from the zombie before. Hell, he could barely even talk. He blinked and then felt something press on hi neck and ribs. It hurt like hell, but it also focused him on the bush-man in front of him. All he could see was a gas mask staring back at him. His mouth moved without any sound exiting it. The survivor must have understood his question, because he nodded to the opening of the storage room where he had put Ema. The boy smiled and then quickly frowned. He mouthed 'Is she okay?' The masked man nodded and kept applying pressure to his wounds. His eyes bulged for a moment before he coughed up a good amount of blood. Damn... he thought to himself, I didn't even get a chance... A smile played on his face as he choked out his last words through gritted teeth:

"Tag, mystery man. You're it." A chuckle rose from his throat and turned into a healthy laugh before it cut short. Another burst of blood spouted from the boy's open mouth before he went limp.
