Once the cracks started to splinter along the shells surface, Narisa stepped back and watched with intenet eyes. When the pale rose snout stuck out, she sighed, thanking Faranth that this egg was alright. Though as more and more of the little Crimson became visible, Narisa tried not to frown. She was so tiny! It worried her more than any of the other hatchlings had. Because it was an Atypical. Oh sweet Faranth she prayed this one had enough strength to find Hers!

A brief glance over her shoulder sought out Kindra among the crowd. Had Suunath been this tiny? Another glance towards her dragon... and Narisa's attention was pulled back to the Crimson.

She was flopped on the Sands... ah, yes! Narisa smiled brightly at Vaail. "Congrats, weyrling. Remember to be gentle with her." Her smile grew softer at his clear shock. "She'll be strong enough for you to carry and feed. She's just tired from all the work put in to breaking her egg." Good, someone - and if she remembered right, that was the new weyrlings sibling - was helping the young man. Though she'd prefer it if Vaail were to leave the Sands where proper assistance could be given.

You have done well, my young one! Cepheith crooned to Lanterneth sweetly. There was clear feelings of pride in the Gold's voice as well.

Watching the new pair closely and making sure the newly hatched Crimson was alright, Narisa turned back to the Candidates and remaining Temperate egg. She moved towards it, blue eyes flickering up to regard the Candidates. "Same procedures as before. Don't crowd the little one and don't approach unless you are their chosen." Hefting the shovel once again, she lined up her shot... and let the tool crack against the egg as she'd done before.

Wen hummed softly and glanced at Cai then back at the newly hatched crimson. He couldn't make up details but he knew she was small. "She'll be fine. She has her bond partner and now it just getting food into her." And keeping her well oiled and so many other things. They all rose to the occasion of caring for their bond partners and the new pair would be no different.

"Tiny slip of a thing. She be fine. Wen supposedly looked about the same way when he was born and he ended up healthy." Jemi said offhanded.

"Thank you, Jemi." Wen snorted and looked down watching. "Hopefully the second egg will show a other live baby."

[Diedre]
SHARDS WAS THE GOLD'S RIDER HITTING THAT EGG WITH A SHOVEL???
What was she doing?! Diedre almost rushed forward before she saw it hatch.
Wait. That was supposed to happen?
Wait, was that a red dragon? She'd heard tell of atypicals, and had seen a few when the caravan came to Trine, but... this made it more real.
It seemed tired and weak, but it impressed. That was good. She moved closer. One egg remained.

Cai

"For his sake I hope you're right." Cai folded her arms and sat back in her seat. Her eyes flicked from the crimson, to Jemi, to Wen and back again. Similar maybe, but entirely different. Cai didn't hold much hope for the little crimson's chances. It'd be a miracle if she survived the next few sevendays. Miath after all was STILL biting her tongue, even if she'd finally grown out of the worst of her streak of health problems. ( Cai would also like to say that Miath's hide was perfect. Needy little thing whined for oil if she even thought she might possibly be itchy.)

[Diedre]

After the initial shock of seeing someone hit a dragon egg with a shovel, Diedre calmed down, a little. For her, anyways.
It was almost over.
She would either impress now, or have to deal with the facts of Shenja's impression. It just troubled her, his impression to a green. It didn't mean anything did it? Greens impressed to lots of people. It could mean nothing but a dragon had found her brother to be perfect for it. Her.
But what if it did? What didn't she know about her little brother? Was he somehow... She bit that thought back.
One more egg, cracked. What would it be? Who would it go to? She was still standing, and this was still a hatching, albeit at the tail end of one. She would be able to contemplate those things soon. But would she want to?

Thrarothar and Bumilth
Thrarothar watched as his dragon chewed, and bounced and wiggled. She was going to be an active bundle. When the rider of the green, Bumilth was talking too waved, he nodded back. “Sounds like their plotting behind our backs.”

Bumilth bobbed her head. Mine won’t let me. He says there are too many buckets up there. A race later is fine. We have lots of time. She looked at Hers, then back at Kalteth. Oh yes, he will. We shall make it a paired race. She wiggled in delight. Mine what’s plotting? It is fun? But we’re not behind you at all. She tilted her head in confusion.

He coughed. It’s more like making plans that involve others without their knowledge or consent. Yes I know you’re in front of me, it was meant as a joke. Thrarothar looked up as another boy joined them with a blue. “Same to you Roan. Thrarothar and this is Bumilth.”

Ooooooh. Plotting sounds like fun Mine. Hi Syriacuth! She crooned at the blue.

Roan gave a soft smile at being acknowledged. "It's nice to meet you Thrarothar." He looked down at the green, "And nice to meet you too Bumilth. This is Syriacuth, by chance if you're one of the ones he scratched up, I apologize for him." He said with a bit of an embarressed tone.

Syriacuth had shut his eyes but they opened again to look at the green. 'Hello.' He said again, he would never dismiss a female, so he kept his eyes open this time, happy to just be where he was with Roan petting him.

Smack!

The blow of the shovel was true once more. Did goldriders and breeding crimsonriders practice the technique? You would have to ask one to find that out.

This one seemed a little more lively than the last, it was rocking slowly back and forth immediately after the strike and though it moved slowly the motion was sure. After a little while a large piece of shell fell away from one side and for just a moment a pale foot had been visible. It vanished before its colour could be made out but the candidates were not tantalized for too long; as the egg went on with its steady side to side motion a pale silver tail poked out of the hole and started to flick idly back and forward in time with the egg's movements.

Not long later more pieces of shell fell away under the pressure of the hatchling's back feet which now became visible again, and soon enough the silver managed to push its forefeet out too. A little more wriggling later and the shell was no longer had enough structure to hold together and it fell apart to reveal a handsome little silver who blinked peacefully up at the candidates from among the remains of his egg.

(Kindra)

Kindra had watched the Brown? .. Bronze? ... nope... Brown, once he'd rid himself of the goo. Impress, At least they weren't ALL Greens and Blues but out of the clutch .. only two Browns.. it concerned Kindra for her friend. She sighed when she saw Narisa heft the shovel. As much as she would never let any of Suunath's eggs go unhatched, it was different watching another's Gold's eggs being cracked.... sometimes it was probably better to leave the eggs as they were.

It seemed her thoughts were right as the first egg Narisa cracked threw a tiny Crimson, Suuanth had been small yes but small for a Gold, not something that tiny.... she hoped it would Between before finding it's Bonded because as much as she disliked the atypicals, she knew how broken it's rider would be if it didn't survive AFTER Impression.

She caught sight of Narisa looking for her and gave her fellow Goldrider a reassuring smile, though it was superficial only. She'd hate to make her friend.... her only decent friend, upset just because she didn't feel the same about the atypes. Narisa knew how she felt about them, she didn't need to tell her. She turned her eyes back to the hatchlings over at the feeding tables once Narisa looked away. The regular colors at least all seemed very healthy.

A Silver, well ... it was a Metallic but perhaps not the metallic Kindra would have wanted for her friend's Gold's clutch. At least this one seemed healthier than the previous one and was a neuter too, so wouldn't be passing his weakness on.

Becka had been so lost in feeding Phasianth and just basking in the feeling of being surrounded by complete Love from him she didn't notice the other Weyrlings coming over to the tables. Phasianth was also busy, showing off in between chewing mouthfuls of meat. As much as he wanted to entertain the females around him, his stomach spoke to him more right now so he kept his mind on the task... well .. except for the crafty glances around and missing his mouth a few times. Becka giggled as his head turned with his mouth open for more meat but turned too far for Becka to reach him with the meat "Phasianth, if you don't concentrate you're going to take forever to get fed" she laughed lightly.

Suddenly a loud noise from behind her, back on the sands had Becka whipping around, standing in front of Phasianth. Oh!.. the noise had just been the Goldrider helping an egg hatch. "Oh.. oh no she's so tiny, i hope she makes it" she said quietly to herself, her hand going to Phasianth's head and stroking his eye ridges.

Becka was relieved for the Crimson but at the same time very concerned for her Bonded, At least he had help it seemed as he lifted her and his sibling... they looked too alike not to be brothers, grabbed a bucket of meat for him. She gave the new Weyrling a smile as his Crimson lay on his lap "My Master was Weyrhealer back at Malvren, if your brother needs anything perhaps you could talk to Master Bereck when his Crimson full?" she said quietly him.

He sent towards Lanterneth. He didn't guard his thoughts from His, nor from the Crimson's Bonded and Becka flushed a little, she turned to Phasianth "Come on, i still feel that you're hungry, we need a fresh bucket" she said to him quickly, embarassed a little by his willingness to let everyone know what he thought. This was going to take some getting used to.

C'tis shrugged at Rochelle, offering; "Well they're better than bronzes," as the whatever it was made its choice. Brown, looked like.... Ha! Not a single metallic? Hi-larious, though if anyone from Benden gloated he'd have the ballsack to make an unusual coin purse. Humm, have to think of a snark to apply to women as well just in case anyone asked; always best to be ready with a comeback.

"Just atypes or duds now then," he observed as Narisa stepped forward to crack the first egg. So far as he could tell from up here it was struggling quite a lot even by the standards of atypes, but it found its rider at last and then the last egg was opened. "Hu, so we get a shiny after all," the blue rider murmured. "Least it's the least offensive kind." If Malcarreth had been silver he could have been a wingleader. If he had been straight Malcarreth could have been bronze, and he could have had a shot at Weyrleader.

*************

The appearance of the crimson made Bereck frown and actually bother to swap his glasses back over. Tiny little thing and terribly weak. She bonded, but that was only the first hurdle that lay before her. It looked as though Becka was speaking to the new rider though, that was a start at least. It would be good to have her amongst the weyrlings to keep an eye on that crimson... ah, and on that silver. He seemed not to have had much trouble getting out of his egg but he had yet to get to his feet and as such the healer remained tense. Things had been going so well that he couldn't help but expect a last minute disaster.

*************

Moriath rumbled to that same group. He looked fine from where she was perched but she could feel her rider's nervousness, or perhaps it was just nervous energy. The reason Moriath didn't really know which it was, was because Kleos didn't either.

the blonde confided in her dragon.

Moriath replied, her confidence as rock steady as ever. Her ego was as large as ever, too.

(V'ail and Naanash)

"I will tell him, thank you." Naanash paused to reply as he grabbed the bucket and looked over the girl and then the blue. "Congratulations as well for finding your bond partner," he added politely and set back off across the sands.

They wanted him to walk with her? He wasn't sure how to get back on his feet without dropping her and he was a rider? Gaaah, dead. It felt like someone just smacked him upside the head with a dray beast shoe and proclaimed he survived! Congrats he the hold lord son. "Unnhn," he managed to get out to the queen and looked down at the tiny crimson.

< Thank you, mother. Though I think I broke my bondmate .> Amusement bled in Lanterneth mind voice as she replied and then the little crimson shifted and gently nipped her bonded parnter's hand.

"Food right," Vaail shifted and then sunk back down in relief. "Did I ever tell you how much I love you Nash?" He asked, relaxing as the bucket of meat came into view. "You are the best twin anyone could ask for and um..." Vaail sighed, knowing that look. "I'm a dimglow?"

"Yes, yes you are." Nash said, amused and started to cut the meat small, passing pieces to his sibling to feed to his bondmate. "Bet you wish you actually handled and helped with our siblings when they were infants, now don't you twin?" He asked sweetly, grinning wide and glance over. Baby silver? Nash hummed slightly.

"I owe you, okay. " Vaail, no might as well make it official V'ail said as he offered the pieces of meat to Lanterneth. He would cut and butcher and all that stuff, promise. Right now, right now he just was content to let his twin do the dirty work as he scrambled to find his mind and -

Why was she just so tiny? Cute and tiny.

Naanash continued to cut the meat into small chucks, passing the smaller morsels to his sibling and glanced again at the newborn silver. "Once he finds his, well the candidate can feed him from our bucket as well. Then we are moving from the sands so the Master healer can get a look at her."

"I rather you do it." V'ail said, taking a other handful of meat and spared a moment to look at Lan's sibling. "You are like a housemother. You know that right?"

"I hate you at times, brother."

Kharmeen and Maicoth had made their way to the feeding tables. Already others were starting to make friendships and chatting with each other. Mostly blues and greens. Which would be good for future wings. Maicoth stopped besides him and with a chirp turned to his rider.

The brown moved to a full but uneaten bucket and turned. His tail moved from side to side with a slow sweep.

Kharmeen moved forward and sat down. He took a chuck out and tossed it to Maicoth who caught it with a snap. "Doesn't matter either was to me. We will meet them all sooner or later in class. I see another brown. And I think that the last two eggs are being cracked."

The brown grunted on this and held his mouth open for another piece of meat.

The crafter sat still for a moment, shoving meat into his dragons mouth. How would he change his name? Kh'meen? K'arm? K'men? It was a tough choice. He wished Ahmenna were able to tease him right now. K'har seemed like the obvious choice. Ha'en? "I can't decide."

The Atypicals were something else, weren't they?

They had it difficult compared the to the normal colorings; watching the two twins and the pale red out of the corner of his eye, Sahar let a small smile touch his lips before turning away towards the other egg. But he was not really given a moment to ponder before the shovel was swung and more life tumbled onto the sands.

And this one....Shards, it almost hurt to look at him, with the egg goo covering his hide and the sunlight coming down from uptop. Rubbing one eye with the base of his palm, the candidate stepped back a bit into the smaller crowd.

He was curious to see who this one chose.

The silver remained where he was, sitting on the Sands with his head bobbing from side to side as he reviewed those before him. Despite his apparent lack of urgency, the young male was breathing hard. Rustling his wings and puffing them a bit, he seemed quite pleased to be looked upon and when he finally stood, he did so with a quiet, silent grace that, combined with the light and new shine of hide, had him glinting like new metal.

Stretching a bit, he settled his wings and started towards the girls, a soft coo here and there as he looked them over, pausing every so often both to catch his breath and check the surprises that moved around him.
