Yushika: -throws Harper at-
Jinx: *catches, happily chucks at Wasabi*
Wasabi: -Not sure what's going on, but he catches Harper all the same.- Hey there! This some kind of game going on or something?
Harper: -gasps as she is thrown, a nervous blush crossing the book worms face as she realizes a male CAUGHT her- Um!
Wasabi: -Is still cheerfully grinning down at Harper, apparently oblivious to her blush.- See, I don't really know the rules if this is a game. Am I supposed to toss you to someone else now, and if so, who? Or is this like some kinda hot potato thing, or does it even morph into something else entirely. If it does I call a timeout 'til I know the rules!
Harper: -her blush brightened, mouth opening and then closing before, suddenly, she shook her head, eyes firmly shut- N-no! It's not a game! Please put me down!
Wasabi: -Cheerfully complies, setting down the little aquatic female.- So if it's not a game what was that? How you get around over land?
Harper: -taking a few steps back, shy as always- N-no. I walk like most people! The humans were just being rough... -wait! Had she interrupted him?- I'm sorry! I didn't mean to disturb you!
Wasabi: -Laughs, the fins on his back vibrating with the gesture.- Disturb me doing what? Walking? It's good to have the unexpected pop up, it keeps your relaxes sharp and adds interest to life, which is good! The same way spices can make food better! -Flips around so he's facing the same direction as Harper and takes some steps back so he's next to her, like they're walking backwards together.- So what were you doing before the humans decided to stick their tiny noses into things?
Harper: -she isn't used to such hyper men... Or people! Her eyes watched the other, even when he pulls that strange walking stunt. What had she been doing? Relaxing quietly! Enjoying life with a book. As usual.- I was reading... And then the humans grabbed and tossed me...
Wasabi: -His eyes lit up at the answer.- Reading? About what?
Harper: -she notices his eyes light up, blinking. Did he like books, too? A genuine smile crossed her face at the question, voice small but pleasant- A book of short stories. They re-tell old fairy tales.
Wasabi: Oh, that sounds interesting. -Cocks his head to the side.- I like books, but I don't like sitting still. It's hard to read while keeping in motion, mostly because I get distracted pretty easy. What's your favorite story out of the book so far?
Harper: -She seemed to relax, just a little. Books were her forte. It was easy for her to talk about books for it wasn't about her but about the lives she read. It was calming, safe. She looked up, quietly smiling- Red riding hood. Then again, I've always had a fondness for that tale.
Wasabi: -Pulls back his head in an exaggerated motion of surprise.- Well, aren't you just full of the unexpected! Wolves and huntsmen and the danger of being devoured usually don't rank that high on most folk's favorite reading lists! So what's different about this story than the traditional take?
Harper: -another blush touched her cheeks, smiling at the male as her head lowered gently in thought.- I don't know. I've always been curious as to why the girl believes the wolf in the beginning. Also, her cloak. -She glanced up, a nervous smile touching her features- Maybe it's a bit embarrassing, but as a little girl I really want a red cloak like hers. So that's why I like it. It isn't necessarily the danger behind it. Though, a good thrill that quickens the heart is... -she trailed off, head tilting in thought- In this story she isn't a child. She's a woman, a harlot, probably playing off the fact red used to be linked with them. The wolf was a man she had betrayed and given the form of a wolf for revenge.
Wasabi: Cloaks would be pretty hot on top of fur though, and I get they get in the way something awful. -The prompt response was open, friendly, and clearly his own thoughts spoken aloud rather than an offered opinion on garments. He smiled and gave his torso a shake, causing the fins on his back to roll with the movement.- When you think about it we've already got our own kind of cloaks. They don't look like much up here, but if you've ever watched another aquatic swimming under water they have this etheral, floaty look. Very cool while also practical for swimming.
-He straightened his head and gave himself a quick, all-over shake to settle his fur properly, sparse though it was.- So the wolf's a man who got betrayed by Red? Seems like a pretty extreme action to take. Wha'd she do to him?
Harper: -blinks, she smiled gently at his words, amused. His last question caused a slight laugh from her, hands playing with one another- He was in love with her, but she only stayed around for money. When he offered to elope with her she coldly rebuffed him and told him the truth. He didn't take it too well...
Wasabi: -Hums thoughtfully under his breath, paws tapping a quiet tempo on the ground.- Can't see how that's all Red's fault. Not that I don't think she sounds pretty nasty in that story, but that's just what she is. If you can't see through an act like that, you shouldn't blame the other when you get a nasty surprise!
-He fidgeted a bit more.- Can we walk while talking? I don't sit still very well. -Gets up and takes a few preliminary steps, waiting to see what the female would do.- So how's Granny play in to all that?
Harper: -head tilts, nodding as she stood and walked with him. His insight made her think twice about what her own thoughts were. She didn't feel Red deserved her punishment, either, but she felt like the man hadn't deserved his own.- The grandmother was the only person Red held affections for. When the man pleaded her to return to him and at least try she told him to win her grandmothers approval and then maybe she would. It's hinted the man wasn't all that stable, though, so when the grandmother refused he went overboard.
Wasabi: Huh. -His long, slim tail waved lazily through the air behind him.- Makes you wonder. I mean it sounds like the grandma disapproved cause she saw the wolf-guy would be bad for Red. Also makes you wonder if Red was like that cause she was just cold, or if she simply hadn't found the right person yet. I mean times were more prudish, so maybe she wasn't anything like a harlot by our standards. -He paused to grin at the female.- You know, assuming something like this ever happened.
Harper: -She watched him, quiet. Such a hyper male and yet... That wasn't all he was it seemed. Head tilting, she smiled gently, nodding.- I think it did. -she quietly murmured to him- Maybe not in just a mystical way, but I believe all stories happened in some context.
Wasabi: -As the female looked him over his attention was taken away by a beautiful speciman of tree off to the side. Climbing wasn't something he was great at yet, more like passable. It would be a great challenge without surpassing his current skill level! He proved he was still paying attention though, when he answered her musings with a short laugh.- Who knows, even they mystical could have been true! I mean I'm as plain as they come, but there's still others in the world with magic in this day and age. Maybe it's just hard to tell magic history from a fairy tale meant to serve as a lesson. -Shoots a grin at the female.- By the way, my name's Wasabi. I'm open to nicknames though. -He chuckled with good humor.-
Harper: -catching his gaze, she noticed the tree and hoped he wouldn't ask her to come along. She didn't know how to climb at ALL.- Wasabi? -Like the food? She couldn't think of any nicknames, yet. She was still stuck on the possibility he might try and make the gentle girl climb a tree! Oh... Shouldn't she give her name?- I'm Harper. Um... You can give me a nickname, if you like.
Wasabi: Yup! Apparently my parents were in a literal mood when I was born, since my green is pretty similar. Interestingly enough though, real wasabi is white. That green stuff is a cheaper imitation, cause wasabi roots are hard to get. -He just shrugged with a quiet chuckle.- Maybe I'm so loud and all over the place to make up for being the color of an imitiation rather than the true thing. So what about you? Secretly energetic and enthusiastic underneath your quiet exterior?
Harper: -shaking her head, she didn't mention that she knew wasabi's color.- No. I'm just... Quiet. -That was the definition of her. Quiet. She wasn't enthusiastic. She wasn't energetic. She was simply quiet. Perhaps this was why she had almost zero friends?-
Wasabi: Quiet doesn't mean you can't be enthusiastic or energetic though! It just means people have to take a different view. -He gave Harper a conspiritorial wink.- You probably wouldn't like my kind of energetic since it involves a lot of physical output. Jock, is how some people put it. I bet if I put my mind to it though, I could prove that all you need is a situation properly motivating to you to get an energy rise.
Harper: -The wink sent a tiny laugh from her mouth, eyes glancing down at her feet. She listened quietly, considering his last statement- It isn't that I wouldn't like your kind. I just.... Doubt I'm strong enough. I spend all my time reading.
Wasabi: -He shrugged.- Strength doesn't much matter. I'm not the faster runner, the stongest climber, or the most agile swimmer. Nor will I ever be. Enthusiasm is rarely worth squat when you're aiming to be the best at something, and I'm far too enthusiastic to focus my energy properly enough to be considered amazing at any physical pursuit. I just do it for the joy of /doing/ it. -He grinned.- If it I was facing off against masters athletes and constantly getting beat, it's still enjoyable cause it's the doing that matters more than the winning.
Harper: -head tilting, she viewed him with interest, tail flicking gently as they walked- What does it feel like when you do those things?
Wasabi: Life! You get the rush of energy going through you, feeling your muscles move and work, pushing you along or pulling you forward. There's this reveling feeling you get when you're doing things with your own strength, espeically when you get stronger and recognize the difference in what you are with what you were. -His smile still had energy to it, but there was a kind of gentle understanding in his eyes when he looked at Harper.- You don't have to be good at those kinds of things to enjoy them. Sometimes you gotta give your body free reign like you give your mind in a bookstore.

Wasabi: -Paces out into the thread, humming briskly and eyes sparkling with energy.-
Sabine: *investigating under pillows for change*
Wasabi: -He spotted a female rooting around in a pile of pillows. Curious, he wandered over.- Hello there. Whatcha up to?
Sabine: *mumbles* Looking for change...*moves another pillow*
Wasabi: Change? -He tilted his head curiously.- What kind of change, and why?
Sabine: The kind you spend. Quarters, nickles, dimes, I'm not really picky.
Wasabi: What do you need the change for? Anything in particular, or just cleaning accumulated change out of the cushion like a monthly cleaning ritual?
Sabine: *shrugs* It's fair game. If you leave it it's available to be claimed by someone else.
Wasabi: -He found himself kinda intrigued that the female was still ignoring his question about why she was looking for change. Unless she thought she'd already answered it and had simply done so in a way he didn't understand. Interest piqued, he moved forward and started copying the female's actions of searching through cushions.- Huh. I've never really had a lot of use for change myself, but it sounds like an interesting little treasure hunt.
Sabine: *sideways glance* Anything you find is mine. This was my spot first. *firm nod and not really meaning anything aggressive by the statements*
Wasabi: -He smiled brightly at the blue-speckled female.- Cool with me, since I really don't have any use for it. It would just get in the way when I go running or swimming or climbing. I'd probably just lose it for someone else to rediscover. -His paws hit a cold little lump, and he worked to dislodge it.- What's change good for anyway, except for finding?
Sabine: Spending of course. Money is money. It's only stupid people who think that just because it's metal it isn't worth keeping.
Wasabi: I suppose so. I've never met a bit of metal I found worth keeping yet though, and it's not just change I'm talking about. -He finally worked the piece of metal loose into his paw and drew it forward to look at.- Huh. What's this again, a dime?
Sabine: Well if you have no use for it. *looks over* That's a nickle.
Wasabi: Funny word, nickel. I mean they're all a bit funny when you think about it. Wonder how the names came about. -Offers the female the nickel.-
Sabine: Well quarters are a quarter of a dollar, dimes come from a Latin word that means "tenth", nickels used to be made of nickel, now they're mostly copper, and penny is derived from the word "pence", which is the one-cent piece in the United Kingdom. *holds out her paw for the nickel*
Wasabi: -Chuckles as he hands over the coin.- You sure know your stuff. You knowledgable in general, or specialize in money?
Sabine: I try to know a little about everything. Seems safest. *puts the coin in a little pouch around her neck*
Wasabi: It can't hurt, anyway. I know a smattering of things myself, but a lot of it is stories and a bit of history. Not much in the way of practicality, 'suppose you could say.
