"Did you tell him that? He raced to his room and brought down everything, and I don't think he was wanting to be the only one playing when he called you over. You should have said something." He said, looking around. Was Rin still outside the room with his whiskey. Maybe he could find some unopened bottle somewhere.

Otto gritted his teeth, "He didn't even give me a chance to say.." Otto trailed off, looking to the side as Lex called him over. Was.. he bailing him out? Dude really was a wingman sort of guy.

"Well.. whatever.." He mumbled at Melvin, turning away from the Life trainee to slink his way over to Lex. Next time.. next time he'd spot a party a mile away, and steer clear. No human contact unless a mission was involved...

"Ha." Madeline smiled at Gale; a real smile that seemed to make her look younger, and not so much of a hot mess. "What a shame; but then life would be too easy." She shrugged one shoulder noncommittally, glancing around the room. She watched Wilson go, her glassy look shading with a painful concern. This wasn't like Wilson at all, but she'd probably only worsen his mood with her drunkenness if she followed him. She looked back at Gale instead. "What a sad, sad world we live in."

Her lips curved upwards into a little grin. "You haven't seen me sober." She teased, and then she tilted her head to the side, almost mimicking Gale's earlier motion. Reaching out, she brushed some of his hair out of his eyes absently. "There." Appeased, she leaned back with a slow, happy smile.

The name was met with a slow nod, like she was assessing the words and locking them away in her head for safe keeping. "Gale. I like that." She shook his hand with a laugh. "I'm Madeline. Madeline Blanche." She watched the world spin for a moment before slowing down so that there was only one Gale instead of three. "Let's be friends."

Giving the young Death a smile and a nod, Lex pressed a glass of actual sparkling cider into the boy's hands. "No funny business this time, promise." He assured, clapping the boy on the shoulder and looking around warily.

Another bottle of rum went into his coat pocket, to match it's twin.

"If you need to bail, I can clear a path."

Melvin watched Otto grump off. Seemed Jerry and Otto were bad at just talking, or maybe excitement and bashfulness on either side had kept them from saying what needed to be said. Sighing, he looked around. Rin wasn't around, and he found his other phone and sent her a text.

There was a lot of squinting to even form words - well, what he thought were words.

Text to Rin

Back prty Yu iN?

Message sent, he went to the booze table and tilted bottles, regarding the labels and seeing which ones were open. Fishing around, he found a unopened bottle of burbon, one of the smaller ones hiding behind a taller bottle of rum, and picked it out before finding a glass that didn't look touched. He filled it and threw some ice cubs in, before moving back into the crowd. It was getting crowded and he wondered if he should leave and go for a walk. It was probably still nice outside.

Gale studied the woman across from him, Jinhai (for once) silent in his head.

"You know," he said. "You should smile more often. Like that, I mean. You're already pretty, but you look prettier when you're not trying as hard."

Whether that was an insult or just a very awkwardly worded compliment was a mystery, but knowing Gale it was most likely the latter. He shrugged his shoulders again. "Yes I have. Granted, you had just been involved in a chaotic Horsemen battle, so perhaps that doesn't entirely count."

When she reached out, her fingers brushing the hair from his face, he let her, half because he didn't really see the harm of it, and half because he didn't really mind when people did that, unless they were treating him like a kid. Madeline wasn't so much as treating him younger as she was merely figuring him out.

He took her hand.

"A pleasure to meet you, Madeline Blanche," he said. "Blanche - like the word for white in French."

Gale's smile softened again.

"And I like having friends."

Right, so this button did that, so this was all set... it would do until he could recruit a bassist... He glanced over the room to where Rep was barely able to keep up right.

He checked his phone. Still plenty of time left before midnight by Deus Clock. Those lightweight pansies.

He took a long drink of his coke, and hissed- it was a lot stronger than the ones he had made earlier... God Bless Melvin. He felt his whole composure relax. It was okay. Just tonight. They were celebrating. It was okay.

"EXCUSE ME!" He called out politely to the whole of the party goers around them, "So...2012... the end of the Mayan Calendar. Theoretically the End of the World. But the world keeps spinning because we keep fighting. And tonight we celebrate because we're all here for another year to KEEP fighting." His hand went to the keyboard, testing a few keys in the lower register before switching a few buttons and the sound changed to something more bass-guitarish, if a bit digitized. "We've just got a little bit left until midnight, so I invite you all to celebrate with me and DANCE cause we all still have our legs! Ahahaha!" Hopefully Lance wasn't listening in. He hadn't considered that. He blamed the rum.

Damn, he had one song stuck in his head but it needed a drummer of some sort- THERE! "Melvin! Melvin, if you'd be so kind, I just need a ch-ch-ch-ch-ch like this," He hefted the maraca and gave it a steady shake like a tambourine and shoved it into the man's hand before he could protest.

He didn't stop staring and smiling until the Life hunter obliged, and once that underlying rhythm started, he closed his eyes, waited a few measures, and then began to play a very simple bom-bom-bom... bom-bom-ba-daddle-daddle on the keyboard and with a press of a button his recorded bass line repeated and he hefted up his guitar to start playing, slapping the instrument for every fourth beat to help his assistant along...

"So, one! Two! three! Take my hand and come with me, Because you look so fine, That I really wanna make you mine...."

Melvin was looking at his phone when he heard Jerry shout out overhead. For all his awkwardness, the man still had the balls and confidence to address everyone and be the focus of their attention. You'd think someone like that would beam that confidence off the stage, but for whatever reason, Jerry only radiated a sort of controlled energy behind a instrument. As he fiddled with his instruments and called to everyone to think about why they were assembled together getting drunk in the first place, he heard his name called out.

With a sort of crawling dread, he looked up from his phone to see Jerry moving over and the Lifer instantly regretted that he had been near enough to be spotted and pulled over. <******** his life.

At a quick set of instructions, a maraca was shoved in his hands, nearly making him spill his glass and it's precious contents. Looking at Jerry, he opened his mouth to say he had as much rhythm as a door stop when he saw the man's expression. He'd already been musically dumped by Otto and had called out a bunch of attention to himself and now Melvin in turn. Turning the man down now would be a huge d**k move and one everyone would see. Considering everyone pretty much hated Leon, a drunken crowd seeing him brush Jerry off might translate badly. Then again, another b*****d in the room wouldn't be much of a difference.

You sing.

I hum, and that's heavy metal, Saliva. This is not going to be the same. Heavy metal did not have maracas.

Sighing, he took another drink and looked around before he found a nearby chair which he dragged over and set it on. "You get this one song." He told the Sun, looking at the maraca with a frown. While it was a instrument any idiot could play in theory, it was the fact it was a idiot's instrument that made him feel self-conscious that he'd ******** it all up and somehow be lesser in opinion.

I passed chemistry with flying colors. I can shake something to a simple rhythm. He told himself, somehow trying to boost a musical confidence he did not have.

When Jerry started, looking over at him, Melvin gave him that little ch-ch-ch that he hoped was not ******** the man's groove any and hoped any color on his face would be attributed to the amount he had drank prior.

People better ******** dance or else he was going to shoot someone.

Rin grumbled irritably at the mess of a text message she got. Sure she watched the two waddling past with their huge loads. But she'd just assumed Melvin would at least be back for his drink. To maybe answer some questions. She finished off her cup of whiskey and left the glass perfectly flush with the wall so that she could carry the bottle back to the party.

Told to watch it but clearly not important enough to come back for.

Then she emerged into the room to see Melvin shaking maracas to Jerry's phat beat. Rin could not help the look on her face. Not one bit. This was so worth being blown off.

Just the smuggiest smug smirk that ever did smug.

Jordan watched Wilson thoughtfully, unable to figure out what had so offended Harrison. "It's just Wilson," he said, confused. "You weren't an aggressive drunk last time. Not that way, anyway. Huh." For some reason, Wilson was banging his head against the wall. And then he left. Well, at least that solved that.

Someone whose name Jordan didn't know seemed to be very drunk, but Gale was taking care of that, which was good. Gale was a good guy. How many people were going to have hangovers in the morning? "Water," Jordan said, making a note. And cleanup, because Rep had dropped a bottle, and hopefully nobody would step on that before they got a chance to clean it up. Tomorrow, because his perceptions were impaired, and he probably stood a good chance of dropping broken glass everywhere if he tried now. Not that it would hurt, but it was the principle of the thing. "You're great," he told Ferros.

Ferros was laughing. You're drunk, the dragon said.

"I only had one drink," Jordan said, vaguely affronted, then amended, "And a third of this one." The minor commotion at the door distracted him, and he stared. "When did Jerry get a piano? I swear instruments spontaneously generate from thin air around that guy."

Otto looked at the glass he was now handed by Lex, setting down the Now-100%-Certain had been champagne all along in favour of actual sparkling cider. "Thanks.. I think I'll be okay n---"

Jerry was making a grand deal of the music. Damn, Otto really did dodge a bullet. And now he wanted them dancing. No. No no no. Wallflowering was all Otto had been able to muster, No way in Hell was he dancing.

"Aaaah... yeah, cover me, I'm bailing.." Otto said with a horrified stare, backing away.

Wilson had already walked, Madeline was making a fool of herself, Otto and Lex were talking of leaving and Jerry was making some god awful announcement about dancing as he sang.

Oh hell no.

Marcus, her fifteen minutes were spent.

Stubbornly, she turned to Otto and Lex and said, "It's been lovely, but I'm going to leave with you, I think." She quickly tiptoed over to Marcus and squeezed his arm, murmuring a goodbye and "thank you for the party," before muttering a "it was stupid and I wish I hadn't." A polite farewell kiss to his cheek, and Ami returned to Otto's side.

She stared at Madeline, wondering if she should do anything about the girl, but then shook her head. Lex was right, she had to let Madeline live a little. Even if it meant scraping her off the floor tomorrow. "She quietly reminded herself to check on Madeline tomorrow, probably with an icepack or something. Ready when you are, boys," she said politely, offering them a small smile.

Yeah...time to go. Whenever someone started singing at a party, Lex considered that to be the perfect bail time. He grabbed the other rum bottle he'd placed on the floor earlier and placed it in his coat pocket, nodded at Ami, and made a beeline for the exit with the other two Hunters in tow.

"Well...fun while it lasted." He whispered, ducking out of the room and into the hallway. "Hope you two get some good rest." He offered, giving a small smile before heading off to his room to enjoy a bit of time with the Captain.

He'd been keeping some form of rhythm, not wanting to take a much needed drink right now with his free hand and somehow misstep the entire process, when he glanced up around the room. Great. Full house and attention.

It was then in the crowd that he saw Rin, practically beaming with some form of smug victory. Did she put Jerry up to this when he had been away filling his drink? Why would she do this to him?

For once, Rin's smile was something he wanted to slap off her face.
