The Death lead made no move to grab the weapons, letting them lie there for a bit longer. It was meant to be a sign of simply subjugation, like everything else about the meeting, about as he always put it, being a Hunter. Or maybe it was just suffering.

"You know exactly why you are here then."

Before either of the two could respond, Circe was summoned, already in full swing as the scythe weapon slice deeply, point-end downwards, right into one of the dual guns. Now, without the Insanity, everyone in the room could hear it: a poignant shrill shriek of the weapon, as if for a second they could hear Kat's weapon protesting, ripped away from it's owner-

- And put back to sleep, the tablet clattering where the two handheld guns had been. The motion itself was nothing smooth, purposely cruel to make it a point. It would leave the Sun trainee on her knees, shaking at most, a gap of silence where her weapon had been. The feeling itself, what had happened, could not ever be quite explained other than loss. A Hunter without a weapon might as well be dead.

The motion however, didn't stop, as Caelius swerved his weapon back, the blade slicing into the air with a strange, ringing noise. Moments later, a portal, and even later, the blast of warm air, acrid, sand blasting into even the room itself.

"I am sure you are familiar with this location in the Sahara," Despite the Death lead's words, there was only an expanse of wind and white hot sun, "The Horsemen lair is exactly fifty yards away from the portal, underground. I'm sure they will sympathize with your antics."

He said nothing else, simply waiting.

Oh, she knew very well why she was here, and she would do it all again. In a heart beat. When his weapon was summoned, she held her breath as the tip of his weapon bit into her guns, Xedis. Every bit of her wanted to scream at him and pull the weapons away, but there was not point, and it was too late.

Kat was indeed shaking as she dropped to her knees. Partially from her weapons being forcibly removed, and partially from rage. Oh gawd, I'm so sorry, Xedis..! With the scythe in motion again, the hunter froze as she thought that this might be her execution, right here and now. Instead, a portal was summoned, followed by a warm, dry breeze.

Her eyes grew wide as he explained where this led too, knowing full well this was a death penalty. The horsemen? The horsemen of all things!? She was ready to be executed, but to left to the mercy of the horsemen--that was another thing entirely. It wasn't long ago since they had been on rescue mission for other hunters to pull them out of that hell hole, and now they were going back there. Alone and unarmed.

Shakily, she stood to her feet, shot Caelius a glare and stepped towards the portal.

Kat, surprisingly hadn't struck out, like he thought she might. Which was unexpected, given that this was Kat they were dealing with. Then again, the sun trainee was well aware of the situation she was in, as was he. The sound of her weapon being separated from her, however, was painfully and far too familiar. It made him recall the moment when Locke was taken from him. It was unbearable.

But the punishment wasn't over.

Barely even a heart beat later and the scythe was swung back, tearing open a portal. The location of which, was unmistakable. Twice he had been there, and twice it had been hell. Now they were going a third time. Only this time, they were on their own. Unarmed, without supplies, and in exile.

"You're just letting us walk out?" He eyed the division lead a moment, the hatred still very much present in his eyes, before his gaze shifted towards the portal. Of course not. Caelius probably expected them to die in the desert. Slowly, painfully, and miserably. Likely at the hands some horsemen. Wouldn't that just make his day. "Fine." He took a step towards the portal, taking a moment for his eyes to adjust to the extreme light pouring through before he followed Kat.

He wasn't ashamed for the choices he made. If he had to re-do the entire thing, he would do it all again. Regardless of how he was told it was wrong, he would never agree. He just hoped the others, would succeed in their reports and escape death. As for Kat and himself, well... if Caelius thought he was just going to lay down and die, then he had another thing coming.

[ was at play practice, just going to react 2 everything in this post umu ]

Ami sat, rather unimpressed by Caelius' bravado. She acknowledged that hunters had disobeyed commands. She knew there would be consequences. Overall, she was rather nonplussed about the whole ordeal. Ami knew the rules better than anyone. Don't mess up or be messed up.

The names surprised her. She thought for sure it would be Ryan and Kat on the platform, not Eva, and certainly not Lex. Whether or not Eva had defended the insanity monsters was unknown, but Lex had been near her the entire time. He hadn't fired a bullet, certainly, but neither did she.

When Wilson's name was called, Ami's stomach did a flip. Her hand went to her gun, but it hesitated, and then dropped. Orders were orders. They would be executed. That was the fate of a hunter who fell out of line. It didn't make it right. They didn't kill their own.

But then, that had been Ryan's rallying call, hadn't it.

Ami's face turned cold. It was their own fault, not hers. She wasn't to blame. She'd followed orders like a good hunter. They were the idiots for not doing the same. As Caelius continued to talk, Ami found herself drowning in her own thoughts, no Junpei voice to steady her.

They deserved to die. They committed wrongdoings, therefore they needed to be eradicated, just like Caelius said. He was right. There were rules in place, and rules were set with boundaries for a purpose. To keep order.

Ami wasn't a robot. She may have been a budding member of the Life division, but she wasn't heartless. Blood didn't need to be spilled. These were her friends. Yes friends. She'd come to acknowledge the fact, backed up by the nausea she felt watching them sentenced to die. Wilson. Goddamn Wilson. Lex, Eva. She forced herself to breath, stay calm, quiet. Caelius was giving them a chance. He was being too easy on them, really.

She almost spoke out on Wilson's behalf. Almost. She choked back the words, biting her tongue and covering her mouth with her scarf, ashamed eyes on the ground. Above all things, Ami survived. She didn't stick herself out for people. She groveled at the feet of horsemen if it meant living. She watched the madness unfurl in front of her, hunters taking the place of others as she cowardly sat in her chair, not saying a word. Lex offering to take everyone's place. Ofie throwing her hand out for Wilson. Clerise sticking her neck into the fray for Dakota.

Yet there she sat, silently brooding over the two decisions. Marcus directly confronting Caelius for others. Still no words came. No defense, no brave stand. Just penitent silence.

When Caelius finally called the "meeting" adjourned, Ami couldn't help but feel lost. This might as well have been the last time she saw any of them. If they died ... if they hadn't proven useful, what gave her any right to stand anywhere but next to them? Hadn't she earned a rope to be strung up on herself? It may have been shiny and covered in research, but it was a rope just the same.

As people flooded out, she found herself conflicted, quietly walking over to Caelius and murmuring, "Thank you, sir." Thanks for what? Justice? Divine punishment? Or cold-blooded murder.

One last look at the crowd of people, and her eyes fell on Lex and Nevada. Nevada would never get the job done properly. Lex, maybe, but neither of them were writers from what she could tell. It was probably their death sentence.

She shrugged herself out the door. It was not her concern.

Whatever poor Hunter on cleanup duty tomorrow at this particular room would probably be a little confused as to why the room had sand blasted in each corner, a few bloodstains on the table - well this was Caelius, so really maybe he was just getting creative in his age.

"You are no longer a Hunter," The Death lead didn't bat an eye as they moved, simply watching, quietly, "Therefore it would be appropriate for the two of you to witness the world you failed to protect, through all your time wasted on ignorance and selfishness and the world you now live helpless within. Seven billion people on this planet and yet you and your friends are more entitled than any of them considering everyone else is so easily forgotten. " He leaned over, just slightly. "I want you to take a good look at every single rotting body in that godforsaken desert and realize exactly how little you have helped them. Families dying, entire populations decimated while you had to save your friends in one goddamn situation. If the monster, as you kindly put it, was measured by the amount of lives killed on a daily basis from ignorance, from being weak, it would put you and every single trainee hellbent on doing nothing at the very top of the list. If you are lucky enough to wade through the sea of bodies and encounter a horsemen, then I hope you find it justified that the one who could have saved everyone rotting in the prisons should have been yourself if you had simply fought as a Hunter. There is nothing noble about sacrifice but ignorance more than buys you death in handfuls."

The chair scraped loudly as he gazed evenly at Ryan, Kat, expression unreadable, still oddly calm, as the sand whipped around the two defective-

-And consumed them entirely, the portal and the accursed island shutting closed one last time behind them. All that remained were the white sands and the whiter bleached skulls laughing silently at them. Hunters indeed.

The raspy murmurs in his head told Wilson to leave the room now while he still could. He wouldn’t want to see what he was about to see and Gramps was right, but he stayed anyways. His hand turned slightly when a familiar blonde left, but she didn’t even move to look him in the eye. Hands curled into fists, the nails digging into his palm as Caelius called up Kat. It was like watching a movie where he clearly knew what would happen next. He wanted to scream, to yell at Kat to not relinquish Xedis over. They all knew what was coming next—

A blue glow. A high-pitched shrieked that caused Wilson to bend over and cover his ears. He squeezed his eyes shut at first, but forced them back open just as the scream died away and clattering stone filled the room. Instinctively he took a step toward Kat, an arm stretched out toward her, but he stopped. He bit his tongue, forced his hand back down. He had to wait and watch. He couldn’t do anything for fear of wasting Ofie’s sacrifice. He was a statue, another member of the miniscule peanut gallery.

Wilson’s jaw clenched at the portal’s appearance. Fists trembled at the mention of the Sahara. Memories of scorching heat and sand running between his fingers and death, so much death, ran through his head. “No,” he whispered.

[Peanut gallery.] Gramps wheezed softly.

Caelius always said things like this. Things that were sharp and biting and hurt with an awful ring of truth. “Stop…” The word barely made it out of his mouth as the pair entered the portal, sand whirling around them and consumed them as the portal disappeared. “WAIT!” he yelled with an outstretched arm, his eyes wide just as the portal blinked out of existence. Stiff fingers curled into a fist as Wilson gritted his teeth. The abandoned skulls laughed at him. He could imagine their manic laughter even as he spun around and tugged Ofie out of the room.

Don’t say anything. Don’t say anything. Shhhh it’s okay.

No, she wasn't a hunter anymore. That was for damn sure. On her way out the portal, Kat slid off her coat and threw it to the floor along with her scarf. If she wasn't a hunter, then she didn't need these things anymore, nor did she want them.

It was selfish to disobey orders and protect a friend? Sure, she got what Caelius was saying. That they had to put the world, and the people in it, before themselves. She got it. But did her defending a friend, infected by insanity, really make her betray the world? If Caelius thought that they had failed as hunters, and failed the world, then fine. She would live with that, forever how long that might be. Her gaze wandered to the bodies and skulls littered through the desert as Caelius spoke of them. It was unnerving to see so many in one spot--much like that first mission, and first trip to the Sahara.

With the portal closing, Kat took this moment to turn her back on it, and make her way over the sea of dead. Caelius had obviously said everything he had planned to say them, and was now slamming the door on their faces, so she didn't need to stick around any longer to see it.

"Well, I'm sorry to all you corpses that I'm stepping over, and possibly on, but I have failed you as a hunter. So sorry." If she was such the sorry excuse of a hunter that Caelius has claimed, then it was good she wasn't one any longer. The others could take over saving the world.

She was done.

Once upon a time, she thought that she could follow orders blindly, and not give a s**t about it. But she never had any real friends before this either. Oh well. It no longer mattered.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:34 am

There it was. No longer a hunter and no longer their problem. The words stung. It stung a lot. Almost as much as the sand that bit at his face. But it was his choice and he had to live with it. He would never agree with Caelius. He would never see eye to eye. Ryan wanted to protect as many people as he could and that included other hunters. Sure they may be pawns, worthless and disposable by Deus' standards, but they had just as much right to be defended and protected as anyone else. Ceres and Bix at the time were not dead, nor was it confirmed that there was no cure either. Was it so wrong of them to try and help them? To try and bring back the people who fought to protect the world along side them? If that was the case, then yes, Ryan was unfit to be a hunter and he always would be. Because he would never be able to blindly follow orders like the others. Never. He was not some mindless killing doll. He had a brain and he would use it. Regardless of 'orders.'

The ex-moon trainee took another step. He could hear Wilson somewhere in the background, his protests barely audible over the howling of the wind. He didn't turn to face him, however. Wilson was already in too much trouble as it was. If he lingered any longer to say good byes, there was a chance Caelius would change his mind and do away with the death hunter's 'second chance' entirely. He couldn't do that to him. Not when Wilson had already done so much for him. So instead, he continued on, hesitating only a second before finally he passed through.

"You're right. I will take a good long look at those I failed to protect and I'll take a good long look at the ones you chose to abandon as well." And with that the portal slammed shut, leaving them both isolated, angry, and alone.

They were doomed.

"Come on, lets just start by finding shelter. We can travel by night maybe and maybe, if we're lucky, find a village or something." Not that it would do either of them any good. Both of them were 'dead' to the world. When they had joined Deus, they had been erased. Their old identities were long gone, buried in the past. Even still, he tried to keep some optimism and pressed on. "Just careful you don't step in any of..." Was it right to call the skeletal remains 'things?' They were once people after all and deserved a little more respect than simple remains. "them..." He finished lamely and cringed when he heard the unmistakable sound of a 'snap' under the sand.

Great, if the ghost of whatever poor b*****d that was came back to haunt him for defiling their body, he was not going to be amused.

"Which way do you think is safe..?" Caelius had mentioned the horsemen lair. Unfortunately he had no idea which direction it was hidden in. So really, he had no ******** idea where to avoid. As far as he knew, every direction was as likely to lead them to their death as the other.

Rep was grateful for Harrison's concern, he always was. In the briefing room it had been easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of animosity aimed in his direction. He might have warranted the hostile response with his actions but that didn't make it any easier to deal with in the moment. The feeling was only compounded by the fact on this occasion he'd been trying to do the right thing. Sometimes support however subtle was what he needed to keep himself grounded in the chaos.

He wanted to leave, he honestly did, but curiosity turned to hesitance and meant that he was frozen to the spot when things escalated.

Judgements were handed down and sentences executed, Ryan and Kat banished to the sahara. The thought made him queasy and for just a split second, even Simon's guns seemed like a preferable alternative. He couldn't imagine a worse fate than slow death amongst the dunes unarmed and helpless.

He found himself touching the glowing blue earring he'd retrieved from the underwater labyrinth anxiously. It jarred him out of his reverie.

"We should go." he said, too late.

And waiting for the guys, he did.

Jordan had remained silent, stone-faced, during the arguments, during the sentencing and the resultant chaos. You drew the attention of a rabid creature at your own risk. This was a demonstration, intended to remind them all who was really in charge here.

The portal to the Sahara made his stomach twist, his shoulder muscles tense like rocks. His capture had been accidental. This was deliberate cruelty. Nothing could be done now, when Caelius was watching them like a snake, ready to strike. When they were dismissed, Jordan rose and walked out.

((SOB LATE CUZ OF TIMEZONE DIFFS AHH ;;;;; ))

Saya hated herself. In that moment, she didn't think she could loathe herself anymore, as she just stood there, letting Ryan and Kat go. The fact she hadn't had enough in her to even think of taking Dakota, Eva and Wilson's places. How spineless, gutless, useless was she, to just stand there in shock the whole meeting ..

That one definitely topped the splattered cake.

Actually, she had never let them go because she never had any hold on them in the first place. Perhaps she simply hadn't cared enough to think of something-- think of anything to help them. If she cared, something should have occurred to her.. How much more did she need to care, to be brave and strong as all the ones who stood up for them-- if her heart was already breaking into shattered pieces?

It felt like she couldn't even stand anymore.

At least Wilson was brave enough to try to go after them, Saya wasn't. She was furious at Caelius, at the hunters, at the horrid system-- but most of all, herself.

One hand covered her pitifully quiet sobs, the blond trainee's form dashing from the room, as if she couldn't bear the sight of where the portal had been anymore. Locke.. Xedis.. Kat .. Ryan.

She couldn't regret it, that they stood up to save the other hunters-- she regretted everything that came afterwards.

"Oh sure. Settle me with the end full of rocks.." Cass jested, attempting to cradle Robert's head as carefully as she could while she shifted her legs out from underneath him to try and get up.

However, any real attempts to hoist anything below Robert's shoulders up was a very futile attempt on Cass's part if they wanted him any higher up than an inch off the floor. What was he made of, cement?

However, it looked as though Caelius didn't care they hadn't vacated yet, casting a glance towards what was happening to Kat and Ryan, a slightly pained look coming across her face. That was some serious punishment being dealt out. While it may not have been a public execution, it seemed to her like one never the less.

She had to force herself to look away, back towards the two helping her instead.

((i was battling a fever while this was happening OTL))

it was a whirl of emotions, but Leon was there. Sitting quietly during the entire moment of anarchy. While Caelius decided to flex his wimpy arms and show off his scythe peen to everyone. He understood why the death lead was doing it. Rules were not followed, needless lives were put in danger in a moment of confusion. It made sense, logical and it stung deep to the part of him that was trained in such a way.

Yet that part that fluttered in a rage upon hearing names that he knew well refused to listen. Still he sat quiet and composed in the seat that washed memories of high school back to him. A time when blood didn't need to be spilled in a classroom, when an authority figure wasn't sentencing people to their doom, only to homework.

It was a grim reminder of where he was now, and what caelius was all about. Just a sadist that liked to abuse his underlings.

The nail in the final coffin was the scream, the horrible scream of that weapon, something that he had never heard, trying to reject it and failing and suddenly was gone. It made the boxer bash his fist into the table in anger. Caelius must have a combo sized genitalia for him to act in such a a way.

"I'll take my leave."
he spat out, disgusted. "I cant stand to be around a little boy that can sentence people to death but don't have the BALLS to do it himself." he spoke loudly, giving the fancy haired authority figure a glare before stomping out.

Harrison grew very pale as the portal revealed its destination.

Woah. Permabanned.

Just kill them, he pleaded inside. How long would Julie have wandered around as a flickering, scooped-out husk with cockroaches for veins...

Don't D/C again, B0nez said, trying to sound idle, but even he was shook up.

Harrison tried to think about something else. Eclipse. It was an eclipse team they were sending out there. Jordan didn't look much better. He'd been with the Horsemen longer than anybody. He stuck by Rep mechanically, keeping the gauze in place as the three of them exited.

It would probably have made more sense if he understood what they were saying. Piosenka had fallen silent in her translations about halfway through, and any confusion was met with a very short, distracted statement of 'I'll tell you later'.
