Arqden Graylock

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Arqden stood at the gate to the castle, not quite sure why she had been delegated to handle whatever King Lareth needed, she never was comfortable being in the demon realms being quite content to stay where she belonged though admittedly and irritatingly she was a noblewoman and so it was mandated that she would have to act as such or for that matter be an envoy every now and then though why she had to have an aide and a bodyguard she had no clue. Looking at the two again and she inquired “tell me again why I need you two with me?” the aide smiled warmly and replied “because the Elvan council wants to make sure you do your duty as protocol demands, and he’s not here for your protection but for mine” Arqden couldn’t help but shake her head in disappointment and sighed slightly “very well let’s get this over with so that I can be rid of you I have other things to attend to than to play diplomatic envoy” the aide stepped next to her and replied “I’m fully aware of what you’ve been doing as well as not, and protocol demands me to say that seeking revenge is far less important than finding a suitable man in which to be wed to lest we forget that little bit” annoyed at this point she replied “what I do on my own time is my business and mine alone, I shall marry when I am damn well ready to and not before, let’s go” at that she walked towards the gate the guards were surprisingly pleasant when she approached though she did note that they were a little concerned, perhaps they overheard her conversation and weren’t willing to tempt fate by upsetting her even further. After a brief exchange with the guards, she was led to the door and brought in without delay.

The guards met up with each other and exchanging a few words before one ran off somewhere, the other simply stood there and watched them admittedly she thought it odd they weren’t being brought before the king since he was the one who had apparently requested an elven representative which meant her specifically since no one else wanted the job and in turn gave it to her.

The demon guard looked the group over with a small smile which only widened as everyone could hear an explosion of some sort that echoed throughout the castle.
Before he could tell them what it was about, the guard who had run off from before, came back with his armor scorched and blackened.

The returning guard coughed a bit and tried to make himself seem presentable before he spoke.
"The king will be with you shortly...he has his hands tied at the moment."

He looked to his companion who was chuckling and flipped him a finger before he took up his station once again nearby.

It had been long several minutes (maybe about 5) before the air pressure in the room became heavy and a pillar of fire appeared before the elven envoy.

Lareth finally had come and looked slightly frazzled but otherwise in good health. His shirt sleeves were rolled up and he was wiping his hands dry on a small hand towel.
He pocketed the towel when he saw his guests and gave a small smile to Arqden and her escort.

"Good to see you Arqden. You're looking just as surly as last time I requested you to stop by."

He nodded to the two with her and smiled still

"I suppose I should tell you why I called for you. Or did your council tell you?"

Arqden didn’t enjoy being reminded about the last time she was there, took her weeks to finally get the smell out of her clothes and was unfortunately though thankfully avoided by all during that entire time which suited her just fine since she spent that time trying to track down her family’s murderers, of which she came up empty-handed… again….

Arqden finally spoke up though not before she gave an annoyed look at her aide who simply shrugged “afraid not, they’ve been less than courteous about divulging that information, only that I was to come here and provide aid where needed.” Admittedly that part left a sour taste in her mouth since she had no idea what was in store for her since last time was a complete mess afterward. But protocol and family Honor demanded she provides assistance so she would, not that she liked it any since she had murderers to track down but duty first as her aide would no doubt remind her of.

Stepping forward with a slight smile on her face she continued “`so what can I do to assist you Lord Lareth?” her aide was clearly enjoying the fact that she was at least playing the role of noble with some dignity and simply stood their content to let her deal with matters until he felt prudent to speak up.

Lareth wondered why her council did not tell her about the mission he was about to impose upon her. But...knowing those pretty faced elders who smiled at you and had a dagger behind them over in the eleven realm, he could see one of two reasons for them to not tell her anything.

One; They did not want her to flip a gasket and destroy any of their stuff.
Elves were a materialistic bunch and if anything beautiful and or ancient was scuffed or accidentally broken, they acted as if the world was ending. That and the punishment for destroying a piece of history was harsher than he would punish anyone for breaking a vase. He smiled at a memory of when he first visited the elven realm and accidentally broke a vase while lifting up a wonderful little bit of woman to the table so he could do things...

Two; They wanted to be rid of her but didn't want to be the ones to hurt her feelings and tell her to bugger off. If Lareth were to send her off, she would hate him and not her own people.

It was hard to decide which reason was their reasoning on behind keeping things silent from her, but perhaps it was a bit of both?

He ran a hand through his hair and smiled at her before he became serious.

"I know you have other priorities, but I am requesting that you put it aside for now and helping me with a more pressing matter.

I need you to travel outside of your comfort zone and out of these magical realms to head to a place called Vampire Island. There is a grave issue there and I need someone whom I TRUST and can count on, to do what is necessary to keep things from setting off a chain of events which could destroy life on the Island and affect our realms here.

I need your assistance Lady Arqden."

Arqden couldn’t help but feel this was perhaps more of a priority than her own hunt and simply nodded “alright Lord Lareth I’ll do it” arqden smiled slightly though it quickly changed to annoyed when her aide stepped forward with a grin on his face “splendid! where are we going” absolute disgust could be seen clearly on Arqden’s face, clearly she wasn’t enjoying the thought of having him standing over her shoulder every waking moment, and simply stood there waiting since the aide was content to acquire the details and was clearly not going to take GO AWAY! very well so she simply kept quiet and let him do the work he was clearly sent there do to, though admittedly, why she had been given an aide in the first place, was a mystery and a little strange since her past missions as an envoy found her working alone since no one wanted to work with her, she had to wonder what had changed since the last time she was requested by Lord Lareth.

Inwardly Lareth was relieved to hear that Arqden would be taking on this task. If she had said no, he was unsure of how he would spin his words to make her change her mind.
With everything happening around his realm and home, he had no time to think of a back up plan.
Thank the gods she said yes.

As the escort beside her looked excited to be going to somewhere new, she looked annoyed.

Lareth smiled as he had an idea. For what he was about to do in sending Arqden to vampire island, he may as well give her a spot of happiness...perhaps when she returned one day to his home, she wouldn't try and hack him to death if he gave her one parting gift.

He wrapped an arm around the elven male and led him away from Arqden's hearing.

"My good sir, you are going to a most dangerous island where there are various races there, whom love to torment newbies to their island. But do not worry, I am sending you not to the main area like Arqden. No, your council told me of a secret mission just for you to do without your charge. They could not tell you about it as they didnt want our gruff lady over there hearing about it and changing her mind in doing the task I'm giving her."

Lareth proceeded to come up with cacameme story that he was sure would entice the escort to believe he was on a super secret mission for his stuffy council.
After several minutes of explaining, it worked!

Lareth shook his hand and with a quick flick of his wrist and spot of flame, he had a bag of supplies in his hands and handed it over.

"Good luck sir. I hope to hear from you soon."

The elf nodded before he was wrapped in flames and was gone.
Lareth turned to Arqden.

"Are you ready to go now?"

When Arqden saw Lareth take her aide off to the side she gave him a questioning glare as she stood there with her arms crossed. She had to wonder what they were speaking about, though when the supplies appeared she couldn’t help but wonder why they would need those, though when he left with his guard she eased up slightly a sigh of relief that if anything she wouldn’t have to be hounded by them about protocol, she could if anything at least be herself which was a plus in her book, though she wasn’t fully clear what she would be doing.

When Lareth looked at her and asked her if she was ready, she sighed slightly and replied “yes as ready as I’ll ever be” She stepped over to him knowing full well that she wouldn't need to return to the gate since he was notorious for simply opening doors and sending people where they needed to be, so she simply would wait until such a door opened and she found herself at her destination.

He smirked as she sighed softly and spoke as if she was going to her doom

“Come now. You can now let loose a bit without your guard. You should be happy I was able to make him believe he had something else to do.”

Before she could say anything about his trickery, he opened a portal and walked behind her and whispered to her.

“Tuck and roll when you land. It will make things easier.”

He gave her a fun hard shove into the portal leading to vampire island right at Sebastets castle and closed it right up afterwards so she couldn’t come back.

When she was gone he wiped his hands on his trousers, and hurried back to Cynthia.

Inquisitively, the Half-Demon known as Yona entered the imposing doors of Lareth’s castle. Although taller than average in her Human form, the castle made her feel like an ant. The structure had always been looming in the background as she grew up, but this was her first visit. She swallowed the lump in her throat. Cautiously, she looked around.

“This is ridiculous,” Yona muttered to herself. “I’m not worth training, I’m not even worth a janitor position in this place…”

The echoes of steps seemed to reverberate forever. For a moment, Yona pondered how the acoustics for music in such a place might be like. She made her way in slowly, nervously twirling a strand of ginger locks around her left fingers. A sudden moment of panic struck Yona’s chest: should she be in her Demon form for such a visit? She contemplated changing. She had chosen a modest and professional black dress fitting her Human form; not thinking once that she ought to present herself in true Demonic splendor. Yona gritted her teeth. How could she have been so thoughtless? Her mother’s voice echoed, “You stupid girl!” Yona closed her eyes and shook her head, bringing herself back to the present.

If she needed to Shift, she could. For the moment, she had come in her Human form. Yona reasoned that Shifting might attract unwanted attention. She just wanted help, answers, purpose, anything. Demon blood raced through her veins, but still, she was a lost young woman. Perhaps someone in the castle could point her in the right direction. Maybe even provide some sort of help.

Yona took a deep breath. Then another, for good measure. She projected her voice into the castle, trying to sound as polite as possible despite her potentially intrusive volume:
“Hello? Is there anyone here who can help me?” Her heart raced faster. She wasn’t even sure if this was proper protocol. Yona hoped her ignorance wouldn’t harm her interactions within the castle.

User ImageAnother redhead answered her call by taking the final step off the large double-staircase in the main room ahead of her, his boots making a very obvious sound for her in the echoing architecture. He let his amber eyes move over her form as he slid his hands into his pockets and negligently leaned a shoulder against the tall banister behind him.

His hair was short, but he loved the exotic effect of the cut that left his left eye partly covered with the flame-colored tresses that were much softer than they looked. His skin might have seemed pale, but he carried a hint of gold to it that marked him as at least half incubus. He was athletically muscular, but certainly strong enough to keep up with any of his lovers as well as maintaining his training over at the fort.

Thanks to the new laws, all demons had to have both combat training as well as magical training. It was one law he'd been secretly helping along to help his sister when the time came. But everyone thought him a useless fop good for nothing but bedsport. Well, everyone but Lareth and his trainers, all sworn to secrecy...

For now, he waited for her to get a good look at her before approaching her with a very appreciative smile and slowly moved around her once then gave her a very courtly bow, "Welcome to King Lareth's humble abode... My name is Brimstone, but you can call me Brim for short..." he introduced himself as he raised up and held his hand out for hers, then just as gracefully raised her hand to place a teasing kiss to her knuckles, "And you are...?" he asked in a teasing tone.

Maybe he was coming on strong, but he hadn't been able to tease anyone in weeks....

Yona froze in place at the sound of a stranger approaching. She saw him observe her and sheepishly smiled. His informal posture startled the young Half-Demon. Her naiveté must have been plastered on her face. Her eyes, one blue and one green stared doe-eyed as the stranger spoke. She had seen plenty of Demons in her life, but this one had an aura Yona could not quite place.

She was mesmerized by the glow the stranger exuded. She had seen Incubi and Succubi before out and about but never met one in person. Her mother always forbade such a thing. Yona’s mother had warned her of their magnetic charm and otherworldly beauty. Even if this was not a full-blooded Incubus, Yona felt his charm. She consciously forced her hanging jaw shut, not realizing it had fallen open. Her fingers nervously tented together, strands of hair caught twirled around her left hand. Clumsily, she freed her hand and flattened down her orange mane.

It was then that the stranger made his approach. His smile was well-received, calming Yona’s nerves a bit. She returned his greeting with a wide smile and a careful curtsey. She stumbled a bit straightening her feet back together. Yona hoped the alluring stranger would not notice, perhaps, if she pretended as though it didn’t happen. Her eyes widened as he spoke. ‘Brim?’ she thought. ‘That’s a little—’

Before she could finish her inner commentary on Brimstone’s forwardness, her hand received a soft kiss. She had no time to resist, not that she’d have wanted to—he did have that magnetism her mother had warned about. She could feel her whole body grow hot. Her ivory skin blushed like a rose.

“I-I’m Yona,” she nervously forced out. Her voice was timid amidst such an intimidating presence. Especially one who had just treated her so… ladylike. That was not something the young woman was used to. A whirlwind of emotions swirled through her head. She continued to speak, forcing a slightly stronger tone in her voice this time.

“I need help,” she said bluntly. “I need training. I… I have none.” Crestfallen, Yona looked at the ground. “I know a little fire magic, but I’ve been told I’m no good.”

Snapping back to the moment, Yona raised her eyes to meet Brimstone’s. “Brim, is it? Could you help me find a trainer?” She straightened her posture, attempting to appear as a capable soldier.

Brim gave a soft chuckle as he released her hand, suddenly deciding that he needed to behave a little bit at least. He gestured for her to walk with him as he led her towards the stairs. They'd need to find the Steward's office. Hal was no longer with them, but his replacement was competent at the job.

"You're in luck, Yuna... The king and queen have made it law that every demon learn both fighting and magic skills. Well, we call it magic, but it's simply our natural elemental abilities. Still, all the same to most. One man's ability is another's magic, after all. The Steward is scheduling everyone, so we can head to his office and get you settled," he told her simply, easily ignoring her nervousness to make sure that she ignored it as well.

"Personally, for fighting skills, I'd suggest Gypsy for you. She's really the best there. For magic, you can learn from either Lareth or Cynthia. I'd actually recommend Cynthia, though. Lareth can be a bit intimidating at times. Cynthia is fantastic with her magic, as well as being a wonderful queen. If you're wanting combat or defensive magics for your fire abilities, Gypsy can teach you that while she's teaching you your fighting skills," he explained her options, hoping that he wasn't overwhelming her.

He placed a hand at the small of her back to steady her at times as well as to guide her when they made a turn in the hallways. But he was otherwise a perfect gentleman, something he wasn't entirely used to but was having to work on. It was either that or...

He looked at her out of the corner of his eye and noted how awed she seemed to be of the place as they passed various maids, butlers, guards, and other visitors like himself. Well, he was almost a resident at this point, but he was trying to make other plans for the future.

"My sister should be arriving for her training in about a year, when she'll be getting the same training you will," he offered, hoping to ease her a bit so that she'd relax a bit more.

Yona listened intently as Brimstone spoke. Her eyes slid up and down his body. Thrice now, Yona had to consciously avert her eyes back to Brimstone’s. His demeanor put her more at ease.

“It’s Yona,” she corrected as they walked, suddenly feeling more confident. She had never truly thought herself a Demon, rather a “mistake and a nitwit” as coined by her late mother. Her natural abilities intrigued her. Yona pondered as they strode about what it might be like to have a teacher instead of a dictator.

The interior of the fine castle left Yona’s mouth agape. She did not bother closing it at this point, as new intricate decorations kept causing it to drop. The craftsmanship was so fine and delicate for such a large structure. They passed all sorts: visitors, castle workers, guards, even others whose purpose Yona could not guess. Her strict upbringing included etiquette, resulting in Yona giving genuine smiles to anyone she locked eyes with. Briefly, the young ginger ruminated on how many rooms such a castle might have. She guessed it had to have a minimum of one hundred, probably more.

Compared to the squalid hovel her mother left her, this castle was a different plane of existence. At home, Yona’s “mattress” was a sack stuffed with dried grasses. ‘It must be such a luxury,’ thought Yona, ‘to live in a place like this… oh, what I would give for that.’ Her mind recalled back to the numerous broken floorboards in her own home.

Yona perked up at the mention of another trainee.
“I’d like to meet your sister,” she said in earnest. She also wondered if she would be just as magnetic as Brimstone.

“I’ll take any trainer who’ll have me,” she stated. Her shoulders relaxed. The placement of Brimstone’s hand on her back left a soothing warmth. “I wouldn’t want to be a burden to anyone, after all.”

Yona’s eyes met Brimstone’s. No one had treated her with such open kindness before. She was used to solitude, or drunks at the pub (who are never known for their politeness). This treatment helped Yona decide she could probably trust him. His personality intrigued her. It might have helped that he was incredibly beautiful. Yona was a young adult, after all.

“What do you recommend?” she asked Brimstone. “I think Gypsy sounds like the best option unless you think otherwise. The only fighting experience I have are pub brawls,” Yona laughed warmly. She stifled her voice, “but I’m pretty damn good at those.” Yona gave Brimstone a playful wink.

“Do you know where the Steward’s office is?” she asked him. “I hate to be wasting your time like this,” she blushed a little, “I’ve never been here before. Shoot, I’ve never been inside anywhere this huge before. I’m… not the best with directions,” she said with an embarrassed smile. Yona wanted more of Brimstone’s company. She thought that statement had been a rather smooth hint.

Almost immediately after she realized how obvious that was, Yona hastily followed up her statement with, “Y-you could just tell me where if you’re busy!” Yona’s inner monologue was berating her for being so damn awkward. The Half-Demon had not truly been socialized, and it certainly showed.

Brim gave her a nod of apology over her name, "Yona... My apologies," he said sincerely as they walked along the hallways. He did listen to her and was glad when she started joking and teasing with him.

But then she dropped again and he had to wonder who had knocked her down that badly that many times...

He gave her another grin, though, "I assure you that I have absolutely noting else to do today. My uncle wanted me in meetings all day, but Lareth and Cynthia cancelled them so I'm free for the day!" he assured her, then winked at her as he directed them through a large doorway at the end of one corridor.

He finger-waved at one of the secretaries on the way through to one particular office. He flashed his winning smile to the male behind the desk, "Ah... Fuegis, just the person we needed to see. This lovely young lady, Yona, needs to be placed in training. Would you see if Gypsy and Cynthia have any slots available?" he asked simply, knowing that she'd do better with Cynthia for magic.

The male behind the desk looked like he wanted to protest, but gave up after looking at Brim. He pulled a folder out of his desk and thumbed through the pages inside. He paused and looked up at them again, then went back to a different page and wrote out her name into a couple of spots then wrote out the schedule on separate piece of paper then passed it over to her, "Don't forget your own schedule, Brimstone," he said simply as Brim directed her back out of the office.

He just gave a chuckle because only he and his trainers knew his schedule and Fuegis dearly wanted that information.

Once they were back in the hallway, he directed her towards the hallways with the bedrooms so that she could pick one out for herself, "Don't let him bully you. He thinks he runs the place but everyone knows that Cynthia does. And she adores me, so I get just about whatever I want and he can't do anything about it. Now let's get you somewhere to sleep and I'll see about introducing you to one of your teachers," he pointed out, showing her the way to manage the new Steward.

Besides, he loved tweaking Fuegis' nose for the fun of it...

"It's going to be a little longer for my sister. My uncle isn't exactly pleased with the new law. I can't go into detail on that one, but she'll be here by next year, I hope. Her name is Tempest and I promise that she's much prettier than I am. As for the two of you, I really can't compare you. You're a luscious redhead, she's a tall blonde. No way to compare you at all. Making an attempt wouldn't do either of you justice," he teased her a little bit then winked at her again, "Besides, she's not my type," he added, hoping to make her laugh.

Yona smiled as they continued. “Apology accepted, Brim. It looks like I got lucky running into you,” she confided. Brimstone seemed so confident, playfully gesturing at the one called Fuegis. Brimstone’s aura seemed powerful yet comfortable. She wondered about his status.

“Cynthia…” she said under her breath, a habit of hers to remember names. That name felt so familiar, but Yona momentarily could not remember how she knew it. She held her hands together as the man rifled through papers, eventually scratching a few things. She reached out to receive her written schedule with a soft “thank you, sir.” Fuegis curtly nodded, then quipped at Brimstone. Yona could not contain the little smile peeking up from the corners of her mouth.

Schedule in hand, they proceeded.
“My trainer, Cynthia? That Cynthia? The ******** Black Sorceress?!” Yona cupped her free hand over her mouth, realizing her language might have been a bit unladylike. The realization that was how she knew the name (pub politics, of course) struck Yona like a lightning bolt. Cynthia was incomprehensibly powerful to a young half-breed such as herself. To be under the tutelage of someone so notorious in the Demon Realm was not what Yona expected. That’s not to say she wasn’t happy: in fact, she was elated. So much so that she had quite a headrush. Yona did her best to contain her excitability, but there was a noticeable skip to her step.

Yona blushed at the compliment, and sincerely (and embarrassingly) snorted a laugh at Brimstone’s comment.
“Thank you, Brim. I’ve never considered myself luscious,” she turned redder, “but really, thank you. Coming from someone like you, that means a lot. You are definitely the prettiest man I’ve ever seen,” Yona absentmindedly blurted. True as it was, she did not want to seem desperate. She briefly thought to apologize for her words but felt no shame in speaking the truth. She was slowly coming to the realization that maybe she might have some potential, both as a Demon and a woman.

“I get to sleep in the castle?” Yona queried hopefully. Her chamber pot at home got so damn cold during the nights. “I don’t need much space!” Yona chirped. “Really, I prefer feeling cozy in a smaller bed or with somebod—” Yona managed to catch herself— “some big pillows, to curl up with.” Yona could feel her ears grow warm. Her complexion was so light that her blushing response was obvious.

“Brim, I have a question for you,” she said as they walked, pocketing her schedule and ruffling her mane of fiery locks for airflow. “What, exactly, do you do here? Are you some kind of Prince or General? Are… you a consort?”

Yona waited for a response, truly not knowing what to expect. This question had been on her mind since they first spoke, along with other things. Her mind wandered as she gazed upon Brimstone. She wondered what he might taste like, among other things. Things she would surely brag about in the pub.
