The woman just giggled at that, thinking it was kind of cute and kind of funny at the same time.

"The type of pet we hold here are called Pocket Monsters, though our fanbase has shorten the term to Pokemon. They are defined by their ability to evolve or change, they are technically stage growing pets. Though they do not grow by getting older. These creatures all categorized by type, but they can have up to two different types. Like water, fire, and grass for example. As for what we have, we have Pokemon from all types, and while we carry every single type to exist, because simply there would be no room, we do have a wide variety."

She paused for a moment and looked thoughtful.

"In your case though, I guess the question is, is do you want to raise one from scratch or not, and what type of guardian are you looking for?"

"Before we can answer that," Earendil replied with a smile, "I'm afraid I will have to ask you to explain to us the different between raising one from scratch, and the alternative. As for what type of guardian ... something friendly for the children, yet able to protect them from anything ... unexpected. We're travelers, you see, and we hope to see some new lands, and we really don't know yet what is there."

He hoped that would help the woman to help them, because really he hadn't much idea of what they were looking for or what they needed.

The woman nodded and paused as if to think about it, or organized her thoughts.

"There are two ways you can obtain a Pokemon from here, we could sell you the creature as is. The advantage of that is we can provided a creature at nearly any stage of their evolution, and that being said you'll have that guardian right away. The other choice, is that we give you an egg that has the species you want, but it is your responsibility to raise that Pokemon up and help it evolve. That is more difficult, but on the other hand, Pokemon do have a bit of an imprinting habit, so if you're the one to hatch it, it'll be far more loyal than one you just simply buy."

Lin looked thoughtful at that and looked back at Earendil, "If we sail, we have a lot of time if we hatch them, but to grow them...."

But she liked the idea of specific loyalty, but she wanted to make sure for Anderian specially that the children were safe.

Earendil looked back at Lin.

"Well, we'll be stopping in Amon Darthir first for who knows how long," Earendil pointed out. "Not to mention, if Leyenda and Kelirahc or Celeb and Haldia want to visit Nauros, we could spend some time there. And then I'm sure we're going to be spending quite a bit of time in Caras Galadhon before we have to worry about traveling ..."

That could give them an extra year or two easily already to help these Pokemon to grow.

"And if they imprint on the children, that would be better in the long run, I'm sure," he added.

He was also trying to think of what to do if they were attacked or something before the creatures were ready to protect the children. Miyuki, being a kitsune, would be able to run away if necessary; but Andarien was very slow.

"Perhaps something that could be ridden for Andarien," he concluded. "Just in case."

"Ridden, would you prefer on the ground or by air?" The woman was already turning to check out the red and white balls that she had, "And is there a particular animal type that you'd like? There are plenty of Pokemon that are similar to any of the common creatures you might find in Gaia."

Lin winced at that, "Why do I feel like we're in over our heads?"

She whispered this to Earendil, because it sounded like just from that, there would be a lot of choices.

Earendil squeezed Lin's hand to show her that he heard, and though his expression didn't change, he couldn't help but feel the same way. This was getting quite complicated very quickly.

"Is there perhaps ... a book or something we could look through that shows us everything you offer?" he suggested to the woman. "Then the children could choose something that appeals to them instead of having to guess. Andarien and I are not from Gaia at all - this is our first visit, in fact - so we're not even sure what sort of creatures are found here."

"Give me one moment," the woman looked around a bit before pulling out a thick booklet.

She went around the counter to give the family the booklet in question, handing it to Earendil.

"Here, this might help, it lists the Pokemon's type, picture, height reference and if we keep them in the shop or not. All the evolutions are listed in order and together with the particular Pokemon."

Earendil hesitated, then handed the booklet to Lin.

"You're going to have to read it to us," he told her quietly. "I don't know your writing form."

Andarien stood on his tiptoes and peered over Lin's arm, trying to see the book. "How many are in there?" he asked, his tone filled with awe.

After taking the book from Earendil, Lin went directly to the page of contents and looked through the numbers, it was no wonder why the book was a bit on the thick side.

"Well over a hundred," she replied a bit dryly.

She didn't recognize any of the names and instead took to flipping through the book depending on the pictures to give her and her family an idea of what they were looking for before reading, otherwise they would be there forever.

Earendil let out a low whistle. That was a lot of different kinds.

Andarien squinted to try to concentrate on choosing a pokemon. He didn't want to take forever to choose one, like he'd done in looking for his goggles.

"Nana, is that a unicorn?" he asked, stopping her at a picture of a white horse-like creature with a horn and flames for a mane and tail.

"Huh... certainly looks like one doesn't it?" she asked him, "Let's see... it's called a Rapidash, a fire type Pocket Monster that can run 150 miles per hour. Their mane and tail are flames but the flame will not burn people they trust. Interesting... oh please see previous page for pre-evolution."

Curiouis as to what that was, Lin flipped one page back to find a pony like creature that looked very much like a Rapidash only it looked like a pony and lacked a horn and the flames were a bit different.

"Ponyta is the name of it's first stage."

"Would that be something for me to ride on, like Ada said?" Andarien asked hopefully. "Because that looks really neat!"

He thought it could be something he could get along with very well. And he liked horses, even if he hadn't had proper lessons for riding them.

"Judging by the height, quite possibly," Lin nodded.

She doubted that Andarien would ever get as tall as his father, so the height of the horse... Rapidash wasn't an issue.

"And at least horseback riding we can teach and deal with, if I recall correctly these creatures can be kept in a special capsule?"

She looked up to confirm it.

The woman nodded and motioned to the red and white balls, "They are all kept in these balls, though we do have decorative ones if you wish. Would you like to see one? Which one? A Ponya or a Rapidash?"
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2012 9:34 pm

"Yes please!" Andarien said excitedly, his eyes sparkling. Then he paused. "Um ... but first ... are they magic? Because if they are, then I have to put my goggles on, and then I can't see so good, but if they're not magic then I don't have to wear my goggles and then I can see them really good. So ... should I put my goggles on?"

He was already looking forward to having his new goggles so that he could see things properly. Not to mention, then he could give this pair back to Luk.

"No," the woman shook her head, "Nothing from the Pokemon themselves to the capsules we use, use magic. Though it might not seem like it to most people."

She picked out a ball from the back shelf and brought it over to the grassy environment stage. Lightly, she tossed the ball onto the grass, it bounced and opened up before bouncing back into her hand. In a flash of light stood a Ponyta in all it's fiery glory.
