The genetics department was tucked away in the back of the east wing. Entering it, it was immediately clear that while the department was very new and hastily cobbled together, some serious money had gone into it already.
There was no receptionist or assistant present when the pair arrived, but from the inventive swearing coming from the main lab to the right, it was a fair certainty someone was present. And had just dropped something from the crash that came from the room.

Nines noted Corbin behind him, but didn't respond. If they were both heading to the same place, they'd meet up soon enough.
Entering into the genetics wing, Nines gingerly approached the door from which the swearing was originating. He didn't see any sign marking the room's nature, or occupant, so with a quirked brow he stepped to the door and tapped his knuckles lightly upon it to gain whomever's attention.
Need a hand?

Coming to stand behind Nines, noting he had taken the innitiative to knock on the door and ask for their contact inside he simply stood back and propped his back against the wall in a lean, arms folded over his chest.
Still not eager to remove the helmet just in case, as it'd mean burning blood to hide his features from unknowns, he mumbled something under his breath about probably not being allowed to smoke in this place.
"Go on in, what're the odds 'e just dropped some incurable air born nasty?"
Behind the visor of his helmet the fledgling chuckled, curious honestly at what they were in for.

"This is the genetics lab, not the biology department of Weapons R&D. I am interested in how things WORK, not how to make them break."
The voice came from a stocky little man in a labcoat, bent over picking up petri dishes from the floor.
"Grab me that tray will you please, and the lids that rolled under the unit? Damn things. Thank goodness these weren't in use, then again I wouldn't try carrying so many working samples at once.
Nines and Corbin, yes? Which of you is which?"

Yes, because punishing any organ but your liver is oh so terrifying a prospect.
Nines grumbled his retort to Corbin, before stepping through the door and tapping two fingers to his chest.
I'd be Nines. Where do you want me to put this stuff?
He bent over and began snaking his arm under the unit, groping about for the lids that had scattered.

Shaking his head lightly with his smirk hidden behind the visor he pushed off from the wall and followed Nines inside, picking up the tray as his fellow lab rat sought after the other bits.
"'n' that makes me Corbin."
Putting the tray up on the nearest bench he'd then take a glance around and once satisfied they were the only ones present, he'd remove his helmet with a sigh of relief. He'd then in a most charming fashion slid a hand down his a** and pull out his tail as he continued to look the room over.

"Just over there on top of the DNA scann...oh."
Nodding a greeting to both men, the scientist was understandably distracted when Corbin pulled a damn tail out, in a less than flattering way.
"My word. How extraordinary. Is it prehensile? Where did I put my glasses..."
Darting across the room with suprising speed and dexterity for a fat man, the professor grabbed glasses and a strange pen like device, then darted back behind Corbin, prodding at his tail with little regard for invasion of personal space.
"Fascinating... not at all native to the hominid race, nor to the simian line... a sample!"
Corbin would no doubt feel a slight p***k as the pen like device was lightly applied to a meaty part of his tail and the professor was darting away to his desk, clearing a stack of paperwork into a drawer to make more space. Depressing the end of the pen into a tiny vial, he slid it into device next to him which started happily whirring away.
"Oh where ARE my manners... I'm Professor Lethfeld. A pleasure to meet you both. Our mutual benefactor has told me a little about you. And I must say, I'm look forward to working with each of you. Exciting prospects, oh yes."

Quite honestly he wasn't sure how to react to the Professor's... Jovial reaction to Corbin's just getting more comfortable. That said he could understand, he himself had been set in awe of another's characteristics very recently. He however took pride in not acting like a child witnessing a unicorn.
Mumbling some he then resigned himself to the role of unicorn as the man started inspecting his tail.
Throwing Nines a sigh and an unsure shrug.
"Welcome to teh pettin' zoo?"
Then came the p***k and the humour was gone, Corbin turning with a growl and balled fist to the Professor though the odd little man was already off and away.
Watching the professor go about setting up initial testing of his ill gotten booty the fledgling's throat vibrated lightly with a low rumbling growl, as he contemplated taking the same pen device to HIS a** in response.
"Lethfeld... Teh Corbin don't like bein' poked without warnin'. Next time I bite back. Also, any samples you take from me, better be treated as infectious, not a pinch o' bloody salt. If'n you can agree to that, we'll get 'long famously."

Down boy, down.
As Nines was setting the tray where instructed, Corbin was reacting predictably to being 'sampled' in the a**. He couldn't help but chuckle at the thought, and brought his left hand to his face in a vain attempt to hide the smirk crossing his features.
So, professor, what exactly have you been told, and what exactly are you using these samples to research?

"I think you misunderstand why you are here, Mr DeSeer, and you insult me if you suggest I do not treat ALL samples as infectious.
I am not Dr Frankenstein. I am not stupid enough to lose and or inject myself with anything I use or create."
Loading up a computer program, the portly little professor then spun back around on his chair and beamed at the pair.
"Samples are the primary reason you are here. The Lady left specific instructions regarding yourself, Mr DeSeer, though she was more relaxed about Nines. My apologies I do not know your surname young man.
My thesis is focused on not just the human genome, but also the animal kingdom and the concept of a memetic genome. How do third generation Monarch butterflies live 3 times the length of their parents and grandparents and know to fly to Mexico for the winter, when they have never ever been there and cannot be guided? Where in our genetic legacy does instinct come from? I believe such questions and such items have a much more significant importance to the vamp.. sorry, Kindred... genome and if we can isolate some of this information and understand how a human genetic code can be morphed into whatever it is you function on, we can potentially manipulate it further, or regress the changes.
My largest interest is in what catalyst changes one genome to the other. The scientific possibilities this would open are immeasurable...
I intend to study you both, on more than just the molecular level, and deliver my results and discoveries to the Lady as contracted. I am of course very aware of how classified your existences are, and have been allocated a secure storage area to hold my work and samples in to prevent accidents. I will require at least one of you to be the subject of the odd lecture to cover your presence here, as well as my own. I am of course aware that my ability to teach, good as it is, is NOT my primary function.
Questions?

Leaning against the unit, Nines folded his arms over his chest and listened to the pitch as it was being given. He quirked his eyebrow at the thesis, nodding along to denote his understanding.
So the trick question is, what sort of lectures are you going to conjure about one or the other of us for this?

He understood what the professor was saying however, he was so far a bit disappointed with the goal of his research he found. Corbin, had come to find out more about the Daemons and why both he and Nines were being chosen by them. He had already been a bit sceptical at least as to the need for a geneticist in finding the answer to that, but went along with Roan's needs as she was the most educated on the deities.
That said, he wasn't going to ask how it related to the Daemons as it was very possible this man didn't know anything, nor would he be privy to their existence in Roan's order of things. Not to mention that talk of such things could possibly give the professor spontaneous joy cancer given his reaction to a simple tail.
Hearing Nines' query he snapped out of his ponderings and nodded, this being the next obvious question of course.
"'n' when you say you want to manipulate, or regress it, what exactly is teh goal there, the result t' achieve it?"

"Initially, I will be teaching the higher end classes on the impact of the standard genome on features and traits. This is easily done by using the genetic traits of persons of similar looks to yourselves with you present, to illustrate how information in DNA translates into physical characteristics.
Your presence for the preliminary lectures will be needed to establish yourselves as coming here under the guise of research subjects, however as I move on into the more in-depth discussions, you will be known to the class and no longer needed to attend the lectures themselves.
I believe cover stories are a staple part of Kindred existence?"
The portly professor answered Nines first, then nodded to Corbin, clasping his hands together as he responded to him also.
"The point of the research for now is already manifold. Her Ladyship wishes me to isolate the Kindred genome for study and understanding. She wishes me to see if there is indeed a regression for the Kindred condition, though you need not worry for me forcing anything on you in a test. Even beyond her Ladyship threatening to end my existence if I so much as think about using you two as test subjects, it is also beyond my own personal morals. I do not attempt anything upon those who do not wish it.
Her Ladyship also wants me to isolate the memetic legacy of Kindred blood. She is interested in... shall we term it Fate? Most specifically, she mentioned some external memetic force she believes affects all of you, that is not attracted to other Kindred. She has said no more on this as yet, but I already have much to do."

"Fate?.. Sounds like 'er I guess."
Finding himself a wheelie chair to park his a** he sat in it backwardswith his arms folded and resting over the back of it, tail idly pushing him around the room as he wandered curiously.
"Well there's risk in either o' us interacting with teh students too much. Me because I look the way I do naturally, but it's up to you who suits teh class really. I 'owever could look 'owever you need me to infront o' the students, though I doubt it will show in genetic samples mirroring teh traits I assume."
Turning to regard Nines over his shoulder as he innocently poked at the whirring device that had sampled his tail he shrugged.
"You eager fer teh life o' guinea pig, boyo? Dosn't really bother me either way."

"Not guinea pigs. I do not intend to affect either of you with any of my discoveries. Research subjects, sample donors, but not guinea pigs."
Affront. Professional affront, no venom behind it, but a careful and deliberate correction to Corbin's choice of terms.
"Ideally I would need both of you to attend at least two lectures each, to establish your identities as subjects of the Institute, though I can cope with just one of you is necessary. The DNA I will display on screen will be from individuals of human descent who look similar to yourselves. If you can indeed change your appearances, it would be best for me if you show me what you intend to look like at least a week beforehand, so I can ensure the two sets of samples match up."
