( Watching )

When Ouranos finally came to, disoriented from his time on the mysterious island, Medea was waiting for them. The boil observed the priestess with cautious interest. She had sent them to face death just moments--or was it days?-- ago; this time, she stood before the second door. What would Medea ask of them next?

Oura's eyes moved across the blank surroundings. Were they all still wandering within in a dream? He would not have time to question further, for the priestess was speaking, and then suddenly all was black.

His senses filled with the clattering, low rumble of machinery, the suffocating smell of smoke, the flash of sparks in the darkness. A train hurtled by, loud and disconcerting. This was distinctly different than the warfront they had just come from... the two dark figures standing aways from them spoke furtively, though Oura realized they could hear his every word.

Their conversation smelled of a conspiracy, a secret plot; the boil looked around, noting the army of black-hued Horsemen, and his own class, dressed in the same somber shades. There was a small dagger in his hand that he didn't remember picking up. Ouranos felt a faint pang through his chest. Would they be asked to kill yet again? "Leave no survivors," the tall figure said presently, confirming the worst of his suspicions...

And just like that, they were off. Ouranos followed the pack of Horsemen warriors, who moved like shadows through the tunnels. The plan was in motion-- exactly what that plan was, Oura had not the slightest clue. But when he heard the echoing splash of water close by, heard human voices, the boil began to understand.

A quick and violent skirmish erupted right there as humans-- some carrying fearsome weapons weaved with runes-- and Horsemen collided. The latter were nimble and deadly, and Ouranos backed to a side, letting them do their job. He watched as they slashed and sliced, bringing the enemy down.

There was one especially large human, who managed to clear the space around him with his giant weapon. Whenever the Horsemen advanced he would grunt and swing, sending them disappearing into the darkness... Ouranos watched the weapon pummel through the air. He knew that if he made any move against the human, he'd be the next to go.

( Attacking )

Oura stayed close to the group of Horsemen warriors, glancing over his shoulder frequently. If he couldn't be of any physical use, he could at least keep a lookout. They moved silently along the tunnels, following a glowing light that could only be more humans... it was coming from an alcove up ahead. After a few seconds, the Horsemen and Ouranos entered the space. It was wider and higher than the typical tunnels, like an in-between room... apparently, the humans had been using it to take a quick breather. But now they noticed the new arrivals; the humans swiftly raised their weapons, their faces determined. There would be bloodshed here.

Without warning, before Oura's group even made a move, black figures dropped from the ceiling onto the humans. There were screams and the sounds of metal clanging as the battle began before them. The boil looked from side to side, surprised; the humans had been so focused on his group that they hadn't noticed the Horsemen above them. Had this been part of the plan?

By the cool, composed behavior of his Horsemen group, it certainly seemed to be. They drew their weapons with hesitation, and raced into the fray to help their allies. Ouranos had no choice but to follow, steeling his nerves as he pulled out the dagger. He had killed before in the warzone, and though it was strongly against his wishes... and he would do it again, if needed.

The boil ducked to a side as bodies plummeted to the ground before him; they were both weaponless humans and Four Clans fighters alike. The humans with the glowing weapons were faring much better against the Horsemen. But both sides seemed to be taking heavy casualties... Ouranos had to help. He had to do something!

Drifting quickly through the fray, the boil targeted a weaponless human-- silently, he drew his dagger, drawing blood and started shrieks. That was before a nearby group of humans fell upon him, their weapons raised and menacing; Ouranos retreated, wincing and staggering as slashes rained down upon him. Was this all really a dream? The pain was vivid and real. He crouched in the shadows as the battle raged, nursing his injuries.

( Watching )

For the remainder of the battle, Ouranos remained by the sidelines, helping as many Horsemen soldiers as he could. As he'd proven time and time again, Oura was useless in direct confrontation... but if he could offer any support from the shadows, he did.

It finally seemed like this skirmish was winding down. Four Clans soldiers rushed to and fro, cutting down the last of the retreating humans, slashing the throats of those who lay dying in pain. Some humans resisted; some cut their own throats rather than letting a Horseman do it. Ouranos observed all of this through blank, glassy eyes. He was tired of the killing, of watching it, of living it... yet, as always, there was a lesson to be learned here. He knew Medea would want them to realize that. But for now, all Oura could feel was a heavy, tired weight upon his soul.

There were shouts and curses; the boil turned, seeing an organized group of Four Clansmen corner a lone human. He was one of the last with a weapon; though, covered with blood and one arm hanging limp, he hardly seemed fit to use it. The human snarled and backed into the wall, obviously at the end of his strength... there was fear in his eyes. The Horsemen moved swiftly, and it was all over.

Ouranos stood wordlessly, water sloshing over his bruised feet, watching the human fall to the ground. His weapon dropped beside him with a clang; the light of its runes fizzled, and died. He was screaming and sobbing. Soon enough, the bitter, coppery tang of blood filled the air-- followed by the heady scent of Fear. It curled through the room lazily, enveloping Horseman and human alike. Ouranos breathed it in, and sighed; the battle was over.

[Attacking! - Round 1]

The room was decorative; the white statues were crafted of impeccable taste wrapped as if with gentle care with green and white foliage. Even the sky was the perfect hue of blue with the soft twinkling noise of the fountain lulling it’s view into serenity. Even Joachim felt at peace, wishing the voice that had stopped its singing would simple continue. Instead it spoke, telling him to rest to sleep.

And so he did.

When he awoke he found himself back in the room with the doors, this time the second one open with a much different scene appearing from the firs time. Instead of the open battlefield it was some sort of room that contained a train that seemed to screech past them and into the darkness. A grim look appeared on the reaper’s face this place was unsettling the walls were dirty covered in various colors that he assumed were suppose to be some form of art but lacked considerable skill.

He wanted out to leave and paid little to no attention the argument between the figures until the words leave no survivors was spoken. Snapping back to attention Joachim realized that he was dressed in a uniform, it was similar to the ones of the warriors around him, in fact they seemed to all shuffle them into formation as if they were nothing more than a part of their larger entity.
He watched in earnest waiting to see who their opponent was, expecting it to be the same class of humans that it had been in previous battle.

However, when they appeared, no when they and their weapons appeared they were not the same humans. They were like the humans… the ones from the trial. Willow had called them hunters, horrible humans who easily twisted and disposed of him in a dream.

Joachim wrapped his fingers around the hilt of his blade his knuckles going white. Tell them nothing, that is what he told his friends to do wasn’t it before they electrocuted him.

He couldn’t tell who made the first move but the sounds of battle started to fill his ears, shrieks of various kinds could be heard as the air started to smell heavily of death and filled with Fear. One human was cornered quickly as the Flour Clans soldiers mercilessly attacked the human shrieking in pain with each wound. The fear of the dying human called to him, the bitter resentment of the trials still lingering as Joachim leapt in without a second thought. He had to make them bleed.

Watching - Round 2

The human fell quickly as Joachim receded to the shadows. It was intoxicating the fear the smell. He wasn’t one for mere violence however this came down to the matter of protection, loyalty and there was something underlying in his behavior that made him stand his ground for those he had care for.

From there he watched the battle continuing to unfold, there was a certain group of particular interest to him. Typically running in and swinging his weapon around was about the only skill Joachim had however something told him to not do so to wait.

He watched as a few soldiers massacred humans, he didn’t feel any pity for them watching as their lifeless bodies collapse on the grungy floor however there were others. It was they, the hunters from the trial, he watched as with ease they slaughtered the soldiers. They were worse than the mere humans, Joachim thought as the pit of hatred continue to grow in the pit of his stomach.

How dare they kill them!

I had never even found out her name. That was the first thought that Lucien had when he woke up for the second time. This time he wasn't face to face with the beautiful blue skies, or marble pavilion. There was no hostess and instead Medea was once again standing before him. She was standing in front of the door in her clock and Lucien noticed that she was ready at the second door. Were they going through that one too? Did that mean they were going though the third as well? He knew what was behind door number one but what about two and three? One hadn't been entirely pleasant but what about these two doors? His mind was like a train going a mile a minute until Medea stopped it with the single phrase: now is not the time for questions.

It was promptly followed by the screech of a literal train, causing a strange expression to raise to Lucien's face. What was this smell? It was so bold, so strong, so harsh. He knew one thing and that was that he didn't like this smell. It was nothing like the soft fragrance of rain, wind and clouds. There was no peaceful breeze here and instead there was a foreign noise invading his senses. In the midst of it all, Lucien could make out the sound of people talking in the background.

Hunters? His ears tuned into the key word he heard. There wasn't much to listen to after that though, at least nothing Lucien could clearly understand. Shortly after, the topic had been changed due to their presence. It was followed by a strange sound, a crunching one, until it was followed by instructions to them. They were supposed to do what? Lucien didn't quite understand until he looked around at his fellow students and then to himself. Something here was not right and it quickly became apparent what the topic of hunters meant earlier.

Chaos seemed to follow the students everywhere and it wasn't long before it broke out once again. It was a slaughter and Lucien took a step back. Hunters or not, memories or not, it was all so... foreign to Lucien. He could remember the pain and fear that the hunters had caused him previously but he could also remember that it was the Four Clan trials and that this was also under their jurisdiction. He didn't want to be a part of this, he didn't even know why this was happening. He was just watching, his eyes looking all around aimlessly until a gurgling sound caught his attention.

He looked around for the sound until he found a half dead human lying there on the ground, quite injured. They were dying, Lucien could see that. There was a definite frown on his face as he watched the human close their eyes and finally give their life up. They looked so fragile, nothing like the hunters everyone seemed to loathe. Is this what weaponless hunters were like?

All around Lucien, his eyes fell upon dying humans and dying clan members. No one was safe from the carnage and the carnage was perpetual. No one would stop unless there was no one left opposing them or until they were dead and gone. Lucien couldn't help wonder what had spawned this battle. He knew nothing, and despite everything he couldn't take his eyes away. He continued to watch and watch but the sights were all the same. In every corner, unnoticed or cared for, a human fought for their life only to slowly close their eyes for the last time.

Lucien had learned that humans were quite fragile but his opinion was about to change. Not all humans were weak and fragile. There was one particularly strong one standing in the distance, taking down quite a few Four Clan members. Lucien could remember fear in that very moment, his body freezing as he watched the hunter look directly at him. There was a surprised look on Lucien's face, followed by a shiver that shot down his back as his thoughts went wild. Why were they here? Why was this happening? He couldn't move but he knew that he didn't want to go near that hunter.

Attacking - Round 3

Joachim clung to the shadows moving swiftly as he could avoid any contact with the humans or the soldiers. He was waiting bidding his time to step back in to eradicate these pests. He had far more respect for his own mice (despite how many saw them as insignificant beings) but these things were further down his list below bugs and insects and even slime. They were pest; they were things that he could easily dispose of like a poorly composed sheet of music.

The humans without the weapons swiftly fell first to the hands of the soldiers, which did not surprise him. They did not stand any chance Joachim thought noticing one that had managed to escape. It looked, afraid clinging in fear as it watched the slaughter of its comrades.

He didn’t smile, as the human looked horrified realizing that it was far to late to run. Instead Joachim soaked in the fear as his blade sunk in across the human’s neck. It fell effortlessly to the ground.
It was almost over, the battle in shadows.

((WATCHING: 82))

The place behind the second door was comfortingly dark, but noisy and reeking and strange, like some of the places in the cities that she had been hustled quickly away from as a child, decaying, but not in the elegant way a proper home was supposed to be decaying. Dirt, a sharp sour smell, something else that smelled like old, untended rot.

Siddie realized that once again, she was dressed in something other than her own clothes. It was a uniform this time, the same uniform that the Clansfolk were wearing. She held small blades in her hands. She wasn't sure if she wanted to use them. Behind the previous door, her kills had only gotten her killed in return.

She stayed quiet and listened. Eliminating Hunters? Leave no survivors? This wasn't like the previous battle. She'd seen Hunters face to face, felt the awful draining sensation of her Fear being sucked away by the weapons they used. The weapons that had once been people like her and her friends. No. No, she would fight. She wasn't going to let her fear cripple her.

She followed the lead of the Four Clans warriors, fading back into the shadows as she heard footsteps approaching. When the human figures came into sight, she was surprised by how few of them there were; all wore the familiar white coats, but not all of them carried the glowing weapons Siddie was too familiar with, even after a single personal encounter.

The Horsemen dropped onto the Hunters, silently at first, and then the screams and yells and cries began. It was barely a fight at all; rather, it was a slaughter. Somewhat to Siddie's surprise, she could feel Fear rolling off the dying humans in curls and waves. She hung back at first, watching, realizing that she'd never before tasted human Fear from a Hunter. Why? And why now?

A gurgling sound caught her attention. A human lay nearby, abandoned by its companions, thrown aside by the horseman whose blades had slashed a new deep-red mouth into its throat. It was still alive, somehow. Siddie approached and crouched down beside it, stretching her hand out to touch her fingertips to the raw open flesh, watching the pool of blood that spread slowly beneath its dying body. Its eyes moved, flickering in search of the featherlight touch it had felt. Siddie couldn't tell if the human saw her, a shadow herself, clothed in black. It was dying in pain and terror, so slowly but so easily.

Thoughtfully, she lifted her hand to her mouth, tasting the blood smeared across the pads of her fingers. Without their awful weapons, Hunters were just humans. Humans were so soft. So fragile. Siddie licked at her fingers and watched the life go out of the human's eyes, leaving the dead flesh inert and dull.

How very strange.

The grounds, the hollow grounds, and now they were in a tunnel. Chuppi had panicked a slight bit when she reformed though not out of FEAR, but out of worry that something else might be coming and she would end up beneath the blade or hooves of something else as soon as her body appeared. To her relief it was nothing of the sort, though to her credit for being paranoid she was soon ushered out with the rest, dressed in a strange clothing, and given a blade. She was not stupid; she had heard the word given to whatever it was they were fighting this time.

Hunters.

She paled, not wishing to continue, but when the crowds moved so did she and soon she was in a narrow tunnel that smelled of coppery blood and FEAR. There was sorrow there as well, sprinkled about like a seasoning to a meal of flesh fit for a king, but the chupacabra could only stand silently while everything started to happen.

[ 95 - attacking ]

She had planned on not moving, planned on staying silent and just hiding in the shadows until this was all over. There was nothing for her here, she knew better than to raise her arms against a Hunter; the memories of yelling secrets to them before exploding were all too fresh, regardless of the fact those events had been entirely a farce. Her small size afforded Chuppi a place to hide in the darkness and she backed away as a group moved pass, not wanting to get involved further. She buried her face in her hands, just waiting for this to be over and for her to die, when the sound of gurgling entered her ears.

It was like someone had their face under water or their mouth full of it, unable to speak yet trying hard to make themselves known. The sound was close-by, she could move from the shadows should she be curious, and Chuppi shuffled over to the side of a dying figure. They wore a cloak of white, stained red with crimson blood, and it was apparent by the amount of color on their frame they weren't living longer now. She could stand and watch them die, a just treat considering what she had seen them do to her friends, or she could send them to whatever afterlife their believed in. Hunters, humans, did they come back to life as her kind did? Where they like Halloween, forever unable to die?

It mattered not as Chuppi brought her foot down on the human's head, the weight of her strike crushing it beneath her heels. She was heavy, her blow was strong, and the human twitched faintly before its body stopped moving entirely. Had she killed the human out of mercy, or had it been out of anger and spite? Such thoughts and reasons where beyond the chupacabra now as the stickiness that had once been a life clung to the bottom of her foot.

There were more, there was no time to dwell.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 12, 2012 1:17 pm

She needed to move away from the body and get to somewhere safe, so she did. Chuppi moved away and pressed herself to the shadows, her small yet bulky frame harder to conceal than she thought in the narrow confines of the tunnel.

At least she did not hear the groans anymore.

[ 8 - watching ]

Her foot stuck to the ground with each step, the blood on her skin acting like a glue that tried to hold her in place as she moved. Before it had been so slick she nearly fell and Chuppi had thought of wiping it off, but what would it work on? A waste of her time and thoughts it had been and the monster moved quickly into the shadows, watching the battle unfold around her. There were many Hunter-humans here, all with weapons that were likely once Halloween kin that were taken and forced into their shapes. It was disgusting to see them being used against their own kind - did they have a will at all to prevent them from acting? Or had they lost their sense of self along with their bodies?

The Clansman and her fellow students were moving and attacking, their blades swirling through the air. Chuppi would not join in, there was no need for her to fight if she didn't have to (or so she felt) and the worst thing about it all was that her fear was keeping her to the shadows. She could get out and fight, vent her anger and rage, but instead she chose to watch and learn. Was this event something that had happened in the past or was it something happening now? Would her death be final, along with the deaths of all the humans? The chupacabra shook her head and went back to watching, willing the negative thoughts from her head.

Some of the hunter-humans fought as though they were desperate and it confused Chuppi. What where they fighting for and why did they seem so afraid? The ones she had always encountered where so brave and cocky yet the ones here seemed desperate. They were outnumbered, the humans, and it brought her a perverse sense of pleasure. . . but she would not act on it. Instead she would watch and take notes, wondering what was going on. Was this all real or just in her head, like so many other things?

Only time and her death would tell.

[ 25 - watching ]

It was almost over now, all the cries and groaning of the dying humans tapering off as there were less and less to kill. Their weapons either vanished when they died or turned into stone tablets, weird objects that left Chuppi curious, but she didn't move from her spot as she witnessed the events. She was not a fighter, she was not a killer. She had slaughtered that man before but it was to place him from his misery - if one had said she just killed for the sake of it then she would really argue. Words would be wasted since it was action that always spoke the loudest.

That being said the killings were drawing to a close, or perhaps her time here was done and her body knew it, and the monster moved in the shadows to witness everything. It was a horrible thought that, in spite of herself, her lips were twitching in a smile at the FEAR she could taste with the deaths that were coming. She had been too afraid before to notice when she killed the man but now, now that she was watching, Chuppi could feel it and it set her blood rolling. Had she enjoyed FEAR this much before? It was hard to tell, hard to think of on such sudden command notice, and she shook her head in an effort to clear her thoughts.

Enjoyment of the killings was one thing, the like of their FEAR at their deaths was another. She had to tell herself these things, had to make it all seem okay. She was a monster of paranoia and denial, for certain, and the chupacabra watched and waited in the shadows for whatever came next.

((ATTACKING: 83))

Another human went tumbling against the wall of the tunnel, keening a high thin whine of agony. Siddie looked up and padded over to stare into its eyes. It had lost an arm, lost half its leg; skin dangled loose on its face, revealing shining red bloody flesh beneath. She studied its face. Its eyes were still bright with panicked pain. It struggled futilely for life even as the blood drained from its body and its system shut down, bit by bit, shocked into cascade failure.

Didn't it know it was already dead? Why was it still fighting? It should give up, Siddie thought. She almost pitied the thing. But her eyes landed again on the gold-trimmed white coat with its stylized symbols, and she remembered that this dying human had been a Hunter, would have shown her no mercy and no pity. Her mouth drew down in sudden anger.

She leaned over to place a falsely-sweet kiss on the cheek bare of skin, then turned the blade she held in one hand and drove the edge into and through the human's eye, feeling the eyeball burst under the knife, twisting her blade up and into its brain.

It shuddered once and went still, its whining dying away.

Siddie wiped her knife clean on its white coat and stood, looking down at the dead flesh that had been a human. She'd been merciful. She'd made its death quicker.
