Mercy was feeling horrible after setting the paper walls on fire today. She truly hoped she didn't hae to deal with incense anymore. Anything but that. truthfully she was looking forward to the charms section of the class. Charms couldn't set anything on fire. She entered the classroom and was told to pick out a charm from the box. She decided that the lock charm was indeed the best for her. She need to stick to life as much as she could, especially after all the things she ended up doing. Her life was a very valuable thing. It really was for the best. She probably could have used the luck charm, but security was fine. She smiled, then frowned. She'd have to stay after class now.

She couldn't believe she had to sit here for twenty minutes. She looked up at Invictus and encountered a leer. She did not like it at all.

1,2,3...

She glanced back down. Wasn't a person supposed to blink after three or four seconds. Mercy found it unsettling. She glanced back down and twiddled her thumbs a bit. was she able to do anything? She really would love to play with her dolls, or do anything other than sit here. She glanced back up to find that he was still staring at her. She looked around to find the others were feeling the trepidation she was feeling.

15, 16, 17

She was sure the minutes were flying by slowly. And the stare was creeping her out worse than her monther's punishments. She could only take so much of it. Sweat was slowly rolling down her face as she sat and dealt with the creepy stare. When her time was up, she left as fast as she could. She was now convinced her teacher was out to get her.

Lailah was more familiar with decorative ornaments such as jewelry, and the like. Charms had never been of particular interest to her, but the various representation and symbols intrigued her.

"What to pick, what to pick~" She hummed, as she patiently waited for her turn.

She gripped the charm in her hand, favoring the cold feel of the metal in her palm. She felt herself hold her breath, shutting her eyes tightly before she slowly opened her hand to reveal the peach charm.

Long life, protection from evil.

Glancing around the others, she wondered what everyone else was thinking of their's. She then glanced down at hers with a touch of uncertainty. She didn't know whether the charm held a positive, or foreboding omen considering it's properties. Fingers curling around the smal object, she supposed she would leave it up to fate.

As the box made its way around the circle, Raziel pondered the meaning of each of the charms. No single one had a meaning that was so specific it wouldn't relate to him, though some were more obvious than others.

As Raziel had often been, he was one of the last few students to make it to class, and so got one of the last picks out of the box of charms. Looking into the box, he chose the lock. He liked the way it looked, it was sturdier than the rest, stronger.

Thinking about it a little more, he figured that it was probably a good choice since it was for protection against evil and to lock in one's life. Seemed like a great charm to have in a foreign place where the boil who was teaching your class had kind of tried to kill you and your classmates on a field trip in the past.

With the whole fiasco with the fires yesterday, Olivia really didn't want to attend class today in fear that the candle would be replaced with a fire pit or something even worse. The room of near inferno was bad enough, the ghoul still didn't know how she got out of there - maybe she was in a daze and left?

But she wasn't allowed to skip these classes, they were mandatory. That was the deal with being allowed on the islands, so the wight had trudged along with the rest of them, going at a snail's pace and allowing others to go on ahead of her through the doors.

The room was nearly back to normal though, no walls, no paper... no candles. The mats at they were on the first day and Olivia could feel her spirits raise, her attention fully on Invictus today as he explained all the charms that they would be picking today. Some of them seemed a little odd to her, ones she couldn't see herself picking while a few of them seemed rather ideal or at least interesting.

As the box was passed around, her dark hand dropped in like the students before her. Something round found its place in her palm and she pulled it out. And frowned.

The Gourd.

Health and Prosperity ... and the heir had mentioned children. To the undead ghoul, this seemed a little frugal. But did she really want to bother their instructor with a request for a trade, she didn't want to cause any trouble - and she was being given an item! - but... this just didn't seem useful to her.

Mustering up some courage and locking her shoulders, Olivia stood herself up and quietly and carefully made her way to Invictus. "Um, I'm sorry... but I'd like to trade in my charm and try tomorrow," she explained in a hushed tone. "I hope that's no trouble."

Olivia stood there for a moment, awkward and unsure of what to do next. She looked around a few times with her eyes before giving Invictus a stiff bow and turning herself back around.

Today wasn't like the other day, no, there were no equality walls around nor any fire. The air spirit was a little bit disappointed about the lack of paper walls but he was impartial to the fire. He didn't miss it and neither was he happy to see it gone. He might have been happy to see it gone had he realized just how many people had set their paper walls and everything else on fire the previous day but he had been pretty into his visualization.

He sat down, but not very still. He was fidgeting and squirming about rather unhappily as he listened to Invictus drown on and on about charms. Huh? Lucien thought this was about incense. He should have paid more attention to the title: Incense & Charms. It wasn't just one but it was both! It would have saved the air spirit a little bit less confusion, especially when the box had reached him.

He stared at it for a moment and then with one ear listening to Invictus he listened to what the box had to tell him. It had four sides, just like any box and like a good box it had contents in it. Lucien could hear both the box and Invictus tell him this, a goofy grin on his face as he reached in and grabbed on of the charms. It was pretty simple looking, in fact, it looked just like a coin. It wasn't a coin he could culturally place with a reference but it was a coin. It was the Auspicious Charm.

Lucien was pretty pleased with the result. Luck, and fortune was always on the list of things Lucien could use more of, especially with how his luck and fortune were going lately. He had been getting himself into all sorts of trouble and mischief and he was really starting to run low on that luck necessary to surviving and coming out on top that he was used to. Yes, this would definitely do. Maybe if he rubbed it all over his skin he wouldn't need the charm anymore and instead he'd just be plain lucky.

Sepheran listened carefully as each charm was explained, most for them all having some part in things he would like to have. All except for one really, one which might be something others would like, but not himself. What use is a long life if he can not protect those he cares about? As he moved for his chance at taking a charm he hoped it wasn't the one he was going to pick...

When the Basilisk boil pulled his hand from the box he felt a sigh of disappointment. The Peach Charm. The one that he really didn't want was the one he had chosen. Invictus had offered to trade their charms for another tomorrow, but that was a risk. Still, it was a risk Sepheran was going to have to take. Walking over to Invictus he bowed lightly before offering his charm, "I'm not worried about living a long life...I'd like to trade this for one tomorrow," he stated lightly, though he was glad he didn't have to stay behind like some of the others.

Junko was relieved to see there was no way for the students to set anything on fire. Again. She sat quietly on the mat, attentively listening to Invictus as he explained the various charms. They all sounded great! Though the Gourd one really was quite useless for her right now. She was too young for children, and she didn't get sick often.

Naturally the Gourd charm was the one she picked out of the selection by mistake. Oops. She frowned, looking down at the charm in her hand. While all the charms were good, this one just...wasn't useful to her right now. Though extremely good luck..could apply to more than just health and children, right?

She eyed the other charms. There were others so much more useful to her...

Smiling gently, Junko held her hand out toward Invictus. "I think I'll take my chances and pick a different one tomorrow." She was sorry, Invictus.

Charms - oh well.. to tell the truth, Wylfenne always thought that charms are for the weaker ones, and they looked around to see if indeed the students in the classroom were of the weaker kind. After all (and that is another piece of truth) they actually never cared enough to look at the people around despite the task they were given by their Family.

Well, the wild collection of faces around was neither better nor worse from the usual routine of a monster gathering. All types of spikes, patches, claws, horns, wings, sneers, leers - whatever it was that made their kind so special. Wylfenne was so engrossed in studying the people around that almost missed Invictus' explanation about the charms - they still thought charms silly and not exactly meaningful. Besides, what could charms give to them? Health and prosperity and children? Oh, come on! Isn't it ironic - most of the monsters can not have children anyway, and is there any health left in being either dead or almost dead or somewhat crippled or having multiple forms? As for prosperity... well, they were born into a wealthy family and they somehow took it for granted... and for the sake of nobility, if everyone could make it wealthy, wouldn't it be filthy as well?

What is there next? Security? Was it ever secure in a company of unnatural beings called to life by whatever whim of nature and people's fear and fantasy? Would it actually keep you safe from that demon bringing literally hell into your life or that werewolf suddenly discovering a beastly nature to himself? Or that siren charming you to death - just because that's her natural ability?

Same goes for protection from evil: they are all supposed to be evil, aren't they?

Lost in those musings, Wylfenne didn't concentrate when picking their charm: it was a peach-shaped object. What was there about it? Longevity and protection of evil spirits? The fae grinned and wondered silently whether it would be of any use when participating in Wild Hunt: every kid back home knew that sometimes your kinsmen went berserk - and what could happen if you happened to be in the way..

But still it would be of more use than the prosperity-and-children one, wouldn't it?

Charms today, eh?

This seemed more like a ghoul's fantasy come true than something of actual intellectual merit. As the box was passed from one person to the other, Lou managed to grab one of the peach-shaped charms. Thinking back to the incense, he sort of hoped he'd picked right if they ended up being scented. Because really, who the hell wanted a fish scented charm?

Well, Invictus had said nothing about them having a scent. Only what they were supposed to represent. Silently his spiral eyes examined yet another cheap piece of Chinese garbage. Where were they storing the little scarelings that made this stuff on a production line? They had to be around here somewhere. The horsemen clan seemed like the perfect type to enslave children for their sinister bidding.

Wait, what did his charm mean? Oh who the ******** cared? He didn't figure it would actually do anything anyways. At least it looked semi-pleasing.

Watching as the box of charms were passed around the class, Mei peered closer to get a better look when the box came nearer to her. She was thankful that today's class was as simple as this. Reaching into a box to pick out a charm, was a lot safer than lighting incense. She had come damn near close to setting her own on fire, she was sure of it.

When the box finally arrived at her, Mei reached in and pulled out one of the charms. It was shaped as a peach. Long Life, Protection from Evil--would that mean it would protect her from evil, like the hunters? Doubtful. But still, it was a good choice in her books.

Passing on the box, the doll had no wish to exchange her choice this time around. She liked the one she had. It was a good, simple charm.

Looking over the charm a little more, Mei ran her thumb over it, before sitting back. Today's session was a breeze, but tomorrow's remained unclear. She couldn't help but feel there was going to be a lot more to these charms. The idea made her a little wary.

When she entered the classroom this time, LW felt a little more relaxed then she had the first two days. Aside from the...few problems with students setting things on fire, Invictus' classes had been pleasant. And sort of soothing in its own way. Minus the fires obviously. LW could safely admit she was enjoying the class. Which was a nice change from the amounts of time she rather wished she could not go to some of her other classes. Oh alright that wasn't fully true. Having something nice and pleasant and not so stressful, it was doing wonders to get her back in the swing of things after the battles with hunters and fun stuff such as that.

LW snorted at that, shaking her head slightly and paying attention to what was being said. Something about choosing...whatever was in the box?

When said box reached her, LW realized they were charms. Curiously, she poked around at a few, and found herself pulling out a simple looking charm. One that looked like a coin of some sort? Passing the box on, she just eyed the charm she held, not really understanding what was written but liking her choice none the less.

The she-wolf glanced up when a charm like the one she held - the Auspicious charm - was explained. Luck? Could sure use some of that. She thought, a small internal cringe in memory of the hunter battle. Yeah. Luck and her were not on the same page. Having something that could help would be fantastic! She was pretty damn happy with her choice in charm.

Nothing on fire today? What a disappointment, normally Valentino was the cause of such discord, but during the last class everyone else seemed to be at fault. The charred remains of the room added a bit of a nice scent to the class. Valentino wondered how Invictus was handling the classroom shenanigans, maybe with a silent glare?

It was really nine of s concern, Valentino wasn't in trouble this time, it was strange. Reaching into his box, Valentino took out his new charm. It was a coin. Auspicious charm for an auspicious boil. It could have been worse, Valentino wasn't too sure how he would have handled pulling out something pink.

Valentino wasn't a big fan of this class, but now with a coin, at least some value had been added.
