"Probably true, then again, I come from a very simple native american tribe. We bury our dead." He said that with a smile, though he did feel saddened by the loss of so many in the mess. "Makes you wonder though, Just what caused such a sea of bodies."

His hold grappled with the slimy body and he looked down, good thing his eyes hide the look otherwise he might've questioned his sanity as he kept the momentum going. At least Ariane was making it easier, he enjoyed the fact that they we're what looked like the only two to find a good thing in all this bad. Then again it's not like he could hear the other trainee's.

"Thanks, I like yours too, better then being grim and all." He smiled under his mask, constantly smiling...never not smiling.

"Babe, I don't need to see your face to think your pretty." He gave an exaggerated look of her up and down with his mask. it was probably odd to see someone so blatantly trying to check you out with a mask on but...C'est la vie, He had done it.

His laugh rang through the headset as he almost dropped the body at her question. "Haha. No no." If he could, he would wipe away a tear, "Nothing of the sort that I know of. Not into the dead actually, their cold heartless women who will only break a young feeble heart like myself." He joked before adding more seriously, "No fetishes. Why do you?"

"Native American?" She echoed with a raise of her eyebrow; now that was interesting, if it was true. She didn't particularly find flirts to be trustworthy people, 99.9% of the time. At the question, she shrugged, "HA, I wonder... Sometimes the higher ups feel generous and will fill us in on details. Most of the time though? We just get bits and pieces of information here and there."

Alright, she had to laugh at the way he was obviously kinda checking her out.

"Much appreciated," She grinned, pausing before chuckling, "As for that... Well, it's for me to know and you to find out, if you are really that interested." She then went silent as the Moon hunter's - Julie's - voice was heard through the headset; the poor thing sounded like she was about to pass out, while made her wonder why they put her in charge of such a mission in the first place... Although she did seem to know a little about what took place here, judging by what she was muttering to herself about.

"Well then, time to pack this up," She nodded once to gesture at the body before leading her partner into the tent as instructed by Julie; the number of body bags should alarm her, but... After having to trek and wallow through a sea of bodies and then needing to carry one of those bodies back?

Nope, no longer bothered by the body bags.

"Here," She placed her end of the body down into the bag, nudging the body's legs in with the tip of her boots before straightening up and staring at her soiled hands; ugh, she doubted that water could wash the possible stench away, "Want to go clean up as much as possible before coming back to wait for Julie?"

Gale was, at the moment, wishing he could be anywhere but where he was.

Especially now that he was being forced to actually look at the rows and rows of the heavy looking bags that he had so studiously attempted to ignore when he had caught a glimpse of them before. Though they were just grey and black through the mask, it was completely obvious what was inside of them.

"Come on," Gale muttered, voice muffled, and with the help of Otto, dragged the body they were carrying into the tent and over to the nearest empty bag. With much fumbling, shuffling, and several swear words from Gale, the body was pushed inside.

And then he couldn't quite take it anymore.

Without another word to his partner, Gale pushed himself back to his feet and made his way towards the exit, ignoring the everything and everyone else except to get out of that damn tent. He pushed back the flap, grabbed several water bottles on his way to the side of the tent. With quick, almost desperate movements, he grappled with the mask over his face, finally pulling it off and inhaling sharply.

At least until he bent double and emptied the contents of his stomach on the ground beside the tent. Body shaking, one hand gripping the canvas, it was a few moments before Gale managed to get his breathing back under control. He coughed, his throat feeling raw and dry, and wiped his mouth on his sleeve, closing his eyes briefly. After a moment, he looked down at his hands, and without a second thought, stripped off the ruined gloves and threw them aside.

<< ...are you all right? >>

There was no answer. Gale had grabbed one of the water bottles and was drenching his hands, scrubbing them with furious movements. His entire head was next, the water dripping down his face and neck, and Gale pushed back his damp hair. He felt rigid and tense, still trembling a little, but at least his breathing was back to normal.

Almost.

Jinhai's voice was quiet. << Better now? >>

Gale nodded, the back of his hand pressed against his mouth so that the words came out muffled. "Yes."

Hearing the ok to head back, Deryk let out a sort of whimper while lugging the body with Marcus. Dropping it off, when they were ok to do so, he stared at the rows of grey lumps on the ground. How many dead were here? Actually, no. He didn't want to know the answer to that question.

When water was offered, he gladly took a bottle and some cloth to try and clean himself up. Ugh, he still felt sick. When they got back home, he was definitely going to take a bath.. to try and get rid of this disgusting feeling he now had all over. For now, he just tried to take Julie's advice in trying to not think about the situation too much.

It was really hard.

"Man this bites. Can't we leave yet?"

Bix was grateful to get the body into the bag. His shoulders still heaved every once in a while, wretching lightly and he hiccuped awkwardly in his mask. It was... disgusting. It was also unnatural. Strange, jelly feeling? He was pretty sure corpses didn't do that on their own.

"Let's.. get this over with." He nodded to Tedan as they laid the body out and eventually zipped the bag up around it. "Sorry I gotta get out of here."

The albino also hurried out of the tent, unaware that Gale was around the side throwing up his guts. He stumbled as his feet hit scattered equipment. His gloves were ripped off and thrown on the ground and he grabbed some bottles of water. He dumped the water on his hands, his boots, and his discarded gloves. The second bottle he chugged, hoping to push back the feeling of nausea.

You really need to get over thisss.
Get over seeing like.. jellified bodies? No offense, but screw you Mina.
You meant total offensseee. Why would you sssay no offense? Oh you humanss Her tone was teasing. Bix was not appreciating it right now.

The sick feeling passed, his mask hanging around his neck now. It was a really bad idea since the scent of death still lingered and the desert sands were whipping dangerously around. Bix had to shield his eyes from the glaring sun, as his eyesight was sensitive. He didn't mean to leave his partner like that, it was very out of character for him, but the feeling of puking had been much too strong.

She was good! Really! Ugh. Atropos laughed darkly in her head. Glad I don't have a nose. Watching you suffer is delightful. On the bright side that was the first time in almost two weeks she'd heard Atropos laugh, but on the other hand she was only laughing because Candace felt ready to empty her stomach of whatever she had had for breakfast that morning. She didn't want to but if she had to? Ugh. It was totally going to happen. She could feel it, the way her stomach churned and threatened everything she stood for.

"I honestly have no idea." Candace managed to get out, wiping her mouth with her sleeve and clearing her throat. Why were they being forced to do this without masks that would protect them from smelling everything? "You would think they would have found them by now. Come on, let's try uh..." She hesitantly pat around until she found another body. Man, not being able to see was both great and terrible. "This one..? On three."

Candace felt for what felt like feet, swallowing hard as she could and gripping what she hoped were the same body's calves. She would wait for Kat to get a grip on hopefully the same corpse. "One...two..."

Otto carried the body back with Gale, trying to ignore the constant ramblings from Julie. Trying, and failing. He wanted very badly to ream her out for her incessant muttering and gagging, simply because it was making him sick.

With Gale's help, they managed to get the body into a bag. But as soon as they had, Otto looked up to find Gale booking it out of the tent. He raised a brow, figuring he must need to lose his lunch. He could be a total a** and make a snide remark about weak stomachs but he kept it to himself for now. Even Otto knew this wasn't the time.

His first priority? Cleaning his hands. He'd used his overly long sleeves to keep them relatively safe, but he knew that wasn't enough. He felt so gross, so unclean.

The small blonde quietly made his way to where the water bottles were lined up, taking two of them for himself. He rolled his bloodied sleeves back into place, and dumped water onto his palms, scrubbing as much as he could.

What he wouldn't give for soap and disinfectant!

"Totally agreed," Madison said, taking a shaky breath, very grateful for the mask. At least the air she was breathing wasn't - oh god no she wasn't going to finish that sentence. Not even mentally.

She reached down to grab the.... the thing Sherry had indicated, trying not to think about anything. At all. But as she hefted it upwards, something made a very horrible sounding noise. A sort of wet, meaty shlup. And whatever it was she'd picked up twisted to one side and detached from what Sherry was holding.

"Uh. Um. Let's... let's try that again," she said. It would have been so easy to say WELL, FAILED, LET'S BOOK IT... but no. No. She wasn't going to do that. She wasn't. Or, at least, she was going to give her partner the option. Yeah. And if her partner wanted to book it... well, nobody could say she hadn't tried?

The chances of finding a survivor in this mess, were as likely as winning a lottery..or so Kat figured. This place was just a large sea of death--the only thing living was them, and most likely the insects feasting on the corpses. Nodding, she wiped off a bit of entrails stuck on her pant leg. This would be hard to wash out..

Pulling a body to the side, she sorted through the mess before looking to Candace as she took hold of another body. "Okay, one sec--" Hoping over through the mess, she took hold of the other half and waited for the third count before hoisting the body up.

"Damn--for a corpse--this one his heavy..!" Carefully stepping through the mucky gore, she kicked whatever clung to her shoes off and continued towards the tent with Candace, and their retrieved corpse. "Almost there.."

"Headset first, or the mouthpiece won't be in the right position," Jordan said, and settled the mask and headset into place. He squeezed Reine's shoulder and leaned in to speak quietly, "I don't know what we're doing here, but it has her pretty rattled." He nodded towards the Moon Hunter who was giving them instructions. "That probably means it's bad. Brace yourself."

The smell that began to seep into the mask as they moved down into the pit made his spine crawl. Familiar. Nauseating and familiar. Why was it familiar? He couldn't place it. Not the time to worry about it. The ground had become uneven and marshy, some spots sticky and muddy, and keeping his footing wasn't easy.

When he crouched to get a good, solid grip on one of the objects they'd been instructed to move - lift with your knees, kiddo, not your back, Uncle Jon's voice said in his memory - his hand landed on something round and irregular, damp and oddly lumpy. He frowned, running his fingers over an odd protrusion on the side of it. It felt like ... it was an ear. He was handling a body. He knew the smell now, he realized. It was the smell that had made him ill when he was eleven years old and a snake had died under the house in the middle of August. He froze, fighting the rapid rise of bile in his throat.

Ferros stirred in the back of his mind, but stayed silent.

Don't throw up. If you throw up, you'll have to take the mask off, and you'll have to see and smell all of it, he told himself desperately, and swallowed hard, forcing his stomach to obey him. Again, and he shoved down and locked away the panicky realization that they were all standing in a sea of human bodies. Deal with it now, freak out later if you have to. He pushed emotion back and down and away, and only then let himself look again at what he was handling.

His grip was clumsy and inefficient. He moved his hands to get a better grasp, lifting from under the arms. "Reine," he said. "Get its ankles if you can." The tiny part of him that was still panicking ineffectually shuddered at the cold, even tone of his voice.

Silently Gale slid down the side of the tent until he was sitting on the ground, one leg pulled up, his arm resting across his knee. He already felt drained, even though all they had done was drag a body up a hill and stick it in a bag.

Stick it in a bag, like it was nothing more than a rock they had stumbled over.

<< Isn't this what you were here for? >>

This? Staggering into a pit of rotten, melting, maggot infested bodies, seeing someone I know die in front of me, then having to come back here and do cleanup duty? No, Jinhai, this isn't what I'm here. Halloween creatures are one thing. Human bodies tortured into death like this...that's an entirely different story.

<< You need to get over this. Caelius - >>

I KNOW.

The thought was sharp, yelled inside of his mind. Gale ducked his head, his forehead pressed against his arm, teeth clenched. He was trying to breathe through his mouth, rather than his nose, since the stench would just make him throw up again, but he did not really want to taste the air either. His hand fumbled for the scarf around his neck, yanking it up to press over the lower half of his face as he closed his eyes briefly.

...I know, Ginny.

<< ...I know you know. >>

It was several moments later when he finally managed to pull himself to his feet, standing a little unsteadily, his face pale and wan, hair damp with sweat and the water from the bottles.

Otto's probably still in the tent, he thought, and walked slowly towards the entrance - he had no intention of going inside, but he'd at least wait by the entrance.

Someone was already standing there, however, but Gale did not even see Bix.

Otto was still busying himself with cleaning his hands, his stomach tightening with the thoughts that one drop of human remains in a finger nail could potentially kill him. This job sucked. What did it have to do with fighting against the shadows? How was this helping humanity?

His grumping was put aside as he saw the form of Gale return outside the tent. He was pretty sure it was Gale, anyway. Otto still had his mask on. He could smell the festering even with it on, never mind taking it off.

"Feelin' better?" He asked flatly with disinterest. Apparently he really couldn't care less how Gale felt. "Didn't happen to see any soap anywhere, didja?" Ah, that was his plan...

"Feelin' better?"

It was not a particularly reassuring voice, nor did it sound even remotely interested in how he was doing. Gale lifted his eyes, catching sight of the blonde haired boy who was, sad to say, his partner for this little excursion.

"Just brilliant, yes, thank you," he mumbled, the sarcasm heavy, though his voice was weak and slightly uneven. Not bothering to even roll his eyes in exasperation, he took a step back and sat down in the sand outside the tent, pushing his fringe of hair away from his face again. Water kept dripping into his eyes, and he gave Otto a look that clearly said you're seriously asking me about soap?

With a sigh he said, in a surprisingly normal tone of voice, "No."

Poor Gale's appearance was not noted by the indifferent teen, still keeping his attention on his hands, mask still firmly in place. He'd seen bodies before, but this? Yeah, no.
Gale's response was sarcastic, as expected. Anyone who answered Otto otherwise must be daft.

"Damn." He answered back, sighing and dumping the last of his water on his arms, scrubbing away at them with his scarf. Hey, at least it was now good for something rather than just sitting in his pocket.

Now that the teen was relatively satisfied with the cleanliness of his hands and arms, he stuffed the scarf back into his pocket. He crossed his arms, shoving sand around with his foot in an attempt to entertain himself. "This is so boring." He grumbled. Had the dragging of a body not bothered him? The fact he'd waded in a sea of dismembered corpses? If it did, it surely didn't show. Not with that mask or his attitude as it always was.

Gale had almost decided he was all right with Otto, even with the sarcasm, the snide remarks, the disdain.

Almost. Until he heard "This is so boring."

Snap.

Slowly - very slowly - Gale got to his feet, turning to stare at Otto.

"Boring?" he said, in a very calm, controlled voice as he started to walk over to the new hunter. "Boring? You think...standing in a mass grave filled with bodies who were once people - "

Another step closer.

" - is boring?"

Another step.

"I'm sorry if moving decaying, rotting, maggot infested bodies is too boring for you."

The anger in Gale's voice was rising, a low hiss, though he wasn't shouting. His heart was hammering loudly in his chest, the roar of the hot wind and sand ringing in his ears. He was now closer to Otto, close enough to reach out and grab the front of his shirt and throw a punch at him if he wanted. It was rare that he lost his temper like this, rare that he let himself go, his face pale and weak looking, but this was just too much at exactly the wrong time.

Another step.

"If you think this is beneath you, then why don't you just go home - "
