It was all so intoxicating, exhilarating, no wonder so many foxes were in relationships. It was the same feeling of satisfaction she felt after an amazing work out, a smile that refused to leave her lips for hours after as she just felt amazing. It was funny how just one man could take such effect on her.

Raising a brow, she tilted her head ever so slightly as he seemed to just drop everything after she'd pulled, giving her an interesting look. She wondered what it could be, but she only had her assumptions to fall back on....was he concerned he was overstepping and she was uncomfortable? Or was it something else entirely?

Flicking her tail to the side, she rose to her paws and knees to lean in before resting her forehead against his neck. "Do you not trust me to let you know when its enough..?" She rumbled out, closing her eyes for a moment as she could hear the vibrations of his heart faintly. Offering a small kiss to his collar bone, she was curious what was going through his mind as he'd seemed to space out once he leaned back.

Looking at the sky for a moment, he didn't catch Nariko's looks and nearly fell over in surprise when suddenly her head was against his neck. The sensation of closeness was exhilarating, but at the same time, he felt out of place.

Even her question took him off guard and it was a double sided question too. On one hand, he could answer yes, and then they might fight. On the other hand, he could say no and then get more questions that could only hurt more than help. Unsure of how to answer her pursed his lips and looked over to the tree line, praying they would give them an answer. That plan failed, so he only let out a sigh.

"I don't know how to answer that, Nariko...." he finally said as he tried to continue that fleeting affection by putting an arm around her waist.

Keeping her face rather placid as she could tell by the movements he made that he was having a hard time. When his head tilted away she rose it off his neck, feeling and appreciating the attempt to keep things right with his arm around her waist. Nariko couldn't understand what made him so uneasy, since he usually had no problems calling her many a things or snapping back an answer.

Yet then it hit her, that was in the heat of argument. Has it really been so long that we've been fighting... Perhaps....it was hard to get used to seeing her any other way. "Next time....just answer truthfully." She smiled lightly, pulling back slowly till she was able to stand up and give her back a gentle stretching; feeling a few pops. "It'll take more than that to hurt my feelings." She mused, after all, unless it was a direct blow to the heart like he'd done prior; she still had much of that stone casing protecting her. Besides....as time went on, she found it harder and harder to summon any kind of rage which used to be a daily occurrence for them.

"I think I'm going to head back inside, you coming?"

Looking to her as she moved away, he let out an inaudible sigh as he too stood and crossed his arms. It was almost a reflex for him to take that posture now, but it just showed how out of place and threatened he felt in the new world...or without his armor.

"The truth hurts Nariko...you may think you want to hear it, but sometimes silence is all that needs be said." he responded with a serious gaze, that slowly drifted to the tree line again. If only the doctor would come...give him something to think about, something to fix. It was infuriating to not be able to do anything at all.

He sighed in response to her question. "Might as well...nothin else to do out here"

It was scary how quickly that smile faded to a scorned frown, feeling that insecurity she had from the start bubble up and eat her from the core. No...hold it together Nariko.....don't start a fight.... Oh, how she wished so bad that she could keep walking and just brush it off....but it was hard to dislodge an arrow from one's back, even a proverbial one.

"No, Dutch." Nariko spoke flatly, pain lingering in her tone as she kept her back to him. "You have no idea, how kind words can be....how this sparing silence killed me for weeks...." Closing her eyes, she felt her fist clench. She really didn't want the ugly side of her to return now that it seemed they were finally getting somewhere....but her emotions just wouldn't let her stop. "It hurt more than any word could even come close to, so please...unless you want to hurt me right to the core; then say anything....our spats were an enjoyable walk in the park in comparison..."

Lifting her paw to hide away her face, she let out a soft sigh....preparing for the worst.

He saw her expression change. He could tell there were words to be said that he didn't want to hear, but still his eyes remained dead center on her. If she wanted the floor than she was going to bloody well get it.

The lack of anger in her voice had him more surprised, albeit an inward surprise. His face was still stern and even after her words, he could only continue to stare. Not entirely sure what to say. Was it the fact that it hurt her for him to be silent, or was it the fact that she was in his mind, asking him to change. Whether it was spite, or a hidden rage he didn't want to address, his mouth didn't move, nor did he utter any form of sound.

He just..stood there. Arms crossed with that stern gaze. He was convinced he was supposed to change. The one thing he can't do.

If there was anything she didn't expect, it was to be met with the one thing she near pleaded him not to do. A grunt, a snort, a growl, hell, anything would have been better than the silence that hung between them. Immediately her ears slid down against her skull, her eyes shutting tightly as she did not wait for him to continue to say nothing or say anything at all as she found her swift steps carrying her to the porch. However, veering right to the side she stopped at the swinging bench.

Sitting down as it was obvious she was much too tall for it as her knees angled up against the bench for regular sized foxes; the vixen put her elbows on her knees and her face in her paws.

She hated it so, and worst of all she wasn't sure if he was doing it out of spite, or intentional to hurt her, or he was just clueless. It was what was worse about the silence, that she couldn't rely on her fell enforced barriers of words and challenges, or retorts and vile names.....she was left with just that....silence. In that silence, there was nothing to save her from the corrosive matters of her own mind and insecurities.

And Dutch was simply amazing at bringing those insecurities right out in the open.

Watching her turn, he did nothing, but stand. Even as she veered off he only stood and watched. The reasons for him being such a jerk were beyond him, but something convinced him in his mind that she was trying to change him, corrupt him into something he's not.

It didn't dawn on him..that it wasn't her corrupting him, but something else. Was he always like this? It was perplexing, and it made him light headed.

He back over to the stump and sat down, hearing that second voice again like his mind had split in two now. "Man..if this is love..then I freakin quit" he muttered to himself, finally addressing the splitting headache, dual personalities, corruptible voice, and sudden jerkiness where a sign of the love he was too much of a soldier to admit.

Coughing closely from his nearby standing post, the Doctor had seen the small spat from the last few words. While he wasn't sure if he should interrupt the proceedings, he certainly didn't want to come off that he was intentionally listening. So what Nariko and Dutch split paths and he watched her head to the porch and the large framed fellow to the stump.

Clearing his throat he remained in his spot till he was seen by the ODST. "I...apologize for my ill timing...." He cast a glance to Nariko who hadn't seen he'd come, and pulled out a envelope of papers. "These were your results, I figured it would be best to give them to you....if you would like I can come back at a later time...but since I was on my way back I thought it to be important I drop this off at the least from the call." Nariko had sounded pretty concerned on the phone, but from the way the pair acted it seemed to be the least of their concerns anyways now.

He was about ready to stand up and leave, but he heard a small cough, and looked up to see the elderly fox doctor. "Oh..sorry sir..didn't see you" he managed to say as he rubbed a hand on the back of his neck before standing and moving over to him, soon receiving the papers and wasting no time to open them.

"Well things are a little rough, but it's better that you came now." he said glancing at the doctor for a moment, trying to figure out the results, but soon deciding to just sift through it. "Yes it's good you came back. My leg just..healed about 10 minutes ago. There's not even a scratch left" he explained. Where it not for the fact he were outside, he would have gladly stripped the pants to show, but he decided the word was good enough for now

"Quite alright young man, I may be getting old but its nice to know I still have some stealth capabilities." The Doctor chuckled jokingly, obviously not having meant to sneak up on the pair but he did realize it wasn't hard when they were often so loud with one another.

"From the tests, its not surprising; they're all outlined in those papers....but yes....the way that substance took over and controlled whatever we put into it was just astonishing. Its makeup is nothing i've ever seen or recorded in the texts here....unfortunately out of world substances are completely out of my expertize...." The doctor closed the cover to his satchel, looking back up to Dutch. "I just hope that as long as you have that, perhaps you will be able to find out some way or another."

Smiling as he adjusted his glasses, he also pulled out some extra bandages and a new ointment from the side pocket and held it out for Dutch to take. "I can't stay long I'm afraid, but these are for when Nariko's wounds heal over; this ointment aids the scabbing and reduces scars. She must be relieved that your getting better at least, she sounded mighty worried on the phone over you." Shaking his head, he tucked his coat in for the journey home; and spared a glance to the vixen on the porch. "Between meeting her and what I know from her mother, you must be something very special to gain her concern, but ah, there I go getting sentimental about my patients!" Laughing curtly, the Doctor turned, holding up a paw in a wave. "You let me know if anything changes, alright Dutch?"

Looking intently at the papers, he directed his attention to where the doctor had said and frowned. "I've seen this make up before...." he trailed off, but looked up, noticing he was being handed some ointment and new bandages. Looking from the doctor then back to them, he accepted them. While listening to the doctor he too found himself looking over at Nariko, wondering how long she was going to stay mad at him even though he didn't see any point in it. Still, he shook the doctor's paw. "No problem sir. I'll get back to you with what this stuff is when I have a chance." he assured as he firmly shook the elderly fox's paw only a few times, then let go. "I hope you have a good day, sir" he added as a quick farewell, before stepping aside and letting the doctor through.

As soon as the elderly man was out of side, he strode over to where Nariko was, with bandages and result paper in one hand and ointment in the other. Where had he seen that make up before? It was just right there, yet he didn't have an answer. Maybe his helmet held some information, but first, to deal with the prissy vixen
