"Lonely, I'm sure." Friendship was important to Eve, but was friendship as important to Seth? His gaze was distant, for a moment, and then he looked as if he had never left. He didn't clarify the matter, and instead continued their dance.

"Let's hope your venture goes well." Their dance ended a few moments later, Seth releasing his young escort on the side - where the tables were located. There was a great deal of people there. Including some mothers whose hands swished their fans open, and began to belittle Seth's appearance. "So disgraceful.." They murmured, their words carrying over to Eve. Seth wondered how she would react? Their opinions didn't bother him, but As Eve's escort, there was the possibility that she might have been ashamed of the older male.

And leaving her on the side was infinitely safer than the dance floor. She could take the opportunity to talk with her friends, or dance with any of her friends. It was safer than leaving her on the dance floor, a crowded spectacle when some old man might pick up the young girl. Seth was familiar with such events, and that was very likely. Seconds after, a balding male with a smirk had made a step in their direction - Seth's cold stare stopped him in his tracks. "Be careful of who dances with you next."

Aside from some obligatory dances, the male didn't seem as if he would be recipient to dancing any further. Time out on the balcony sounded just about right, Seth was craving some fresh air.

But he did relent, as Eve's escort, finishing with "..I can take you out to see the gardens sometime later?" She looked as if she would enjoy the gardens, which were now open to viewing.

"Is he?" Serenade queried; she had never thought too much about it. Since he was dancing with Hero, of all people, and Hero didn't seem to hostile with him... therefore she had automatically assumed that he was alright.

"That would be nice." She told Elke with a smile. "Have faith in yourself; I'm sure you're a lovely dancer." Apparently, Serenade Soriano was good at snagging adorable dance partners.

****

"You know," She commented, a bright smile still upon her face as she nodded towards the mothers sweetly, "I'd think they would think the opposite if they knew your social standing is higher than mine." She wasn't ashamed or perturbed by their opinions either. Eve certainly did not want to listen to stuffy rich ladies; she thought her date looked handsome, and that was enough. It wasn't as if he came to the ball in slippers!

Eve only giggled, patting his arm. It was a pretty nice feeling to have someone so protective over her, really. Besides, she wasn't exactly interested in dancing with one of those old men, unlike poor Jada who was obliged to. "Why don't we go over to where Audrey is? I can introduce you!"

"That would be nice." She responded brightly. She did indeed look forward to seeing the garden, which would probably be in full bloom now that it was springtime. For now though, she started to lead him towards the table that Audrey sat at. These events weren't only for dancing, but for socializing too!

Seth smiled, a smile filled with fond regard for the younger female, and shook his head. "You'd be surprised to what depths I've fallen to." His matter-of-fact tone, and the way it was delivered without any usual disappointment that would have accompanied such statements meant that Seth didn't care about the issue. He merely hadn't wanted Eve, an innocent bystander, affected by what he chose to do.

"Eve..." A warning voice, but that probably wouldn't deter the enthusiastic girl. He let himself be dragged (most reluctantly!), and if his time were left to him, the older male would have probably spent the entire time in a corner of the ballroom or patio drinking some juice or other type of beverage. He wasn't really the type of person who was interested in expanding his repertoire when it came to people. But he was led towards where those girls who had accompanied Jada, or otherwise known as her court sat. Well, as long as she wasn't introducing him to the barbies of the court, he supposed that he could tolerate a bit of introductions.

Was it rude to dance with someone more than once? What a silly rule. But since Lucas seemed big on manners, she refrained from saying anything. "No, I'm perfectly fine Lucas, thanks for offering! I'll just head back on my own!" Serah cheerfully stated, she didn't quite understand ballroom manners-- why escort someone back if they're perfectly capable of walking back themselves? (Let's exclude the broken leg club here.)

In fear of sounding too rude to the sweet boy, she leaned in towards Lucas for a friendly kiss on the cheek. Her lips brushed past his cheek in a very light but flirtatious manner. "Think of it as a reward for your lovely acquaintance." She lifted her fingers in an indication of the number ten. "Come back in ten years when we're both older and we'll definitely have another dance again! I promise I won't step on your toes next time." She chuckled, turning away from the boy. It seemed that although she was new to the ballroom experience, she wasn't new in the ways of feminine affection.

It was minutes later, when she was walking back to the table, when she saw a familiar head that she hadn't seen in a very long while. Her eyes widened, arms tacking the black clothed back of Seth, small hands meeting the irate male's waist boldly. (She was sure she would get hit but hey, it'd be worth it.) She was glad-- Audrey was familiar but Serah regretfully wasn't closely acquainted with her-- a fact that may be remedied in the future.

She tugged on his black hair in an aggravating and annoying tug. "Seth! What are you doing here? Did you get caught stealing unicorns or kicking fairies? I dont doubt that you're the type who would kick a fairy if she ever came up to you--" She asked him although no such event had ever existed or would ever be likely to exist. It was only when she looked up to realize he had a very pretty date with him-- a fellow classmate seen in Crystal Academy halls, her sentence trailing off.

"---Oh-- Uh. Wait. I totally got this situation." Serah clapped her hands, as if a idea had come. Serah should apologize. Or should she? Should she apologize and leave him? Or pretend that the incident never happened? Perhaps, discreetly walk away? Or .. "..Okay. Nevermind-- I totally don't got this. Should I apologize or leave you alone?" She said, hands scratching the back of her head in a sheepish manner.

"I've been doing this since I was little... My grandfather used to sweep me away for at least one dance at every occasion." Even if her mother had been 'outcast' from the family it seemed that her parents had seen a granddaughter as a second chance, lavishing her with the same sort of treatment she would have received had she always been amongst them.

Her focus remained on her dance partner for a moment before she let her eyes drift, taking in the various scenes as they twirled together. People watching was always a source of amusement at events such as these; sitting back and making up stories about what select groups could be saying, commenting on the usual gossip of who was with who... And yet it was one particular person that caught her eye, bringing a smile to her face.

When the song ended she curtsied politely to Oddy, smiling brightly as she took him by the arm so that she could lead him over to the table where Gabby was sitting. "Come on... There's someone else I'd like you to meet. I promise it won't be as painful as meeting my parents."

Gabbie grunted non-commitally at the cinnamon haired girl's words before fidgeting uncomfortably. These were clearly not her peoples. And if she made it out of this tonight, she was going to tell her aunt that the only way she'd be attending future events would be if her aunt dragged her cold, dead body along and propped it up in a corner.

She withdrew in on herself, the conversation between her tablemates didn't interest her. A clammy hand on her shoulder as some new middle aged man tried to engage her in a dance or conversation was answered with a threatening growl that sent him scurrying off to find a more tractable female. By this point, she saw Audrey heading back with Jada and brightened slightly.

As she politely moved her crutches a bit to make sure they'd be out of the way, she eyes fell on a familiar figure. Her eyes brightened as she practically beamed at the approaching girl. And it was clear that had she been whole, she would have lunged from her seat to give the girl a hearty hug.

"Cordy!"

When Howl approached with Calintha, Fallon smiled wider. "Good evening, Howl. It's nice to see you too." They had only met briefly, but his immaculate manners left a good impression. Her smile warmed to see Calintha, a good friend. "My, my, Cali -- that dress of yours is gorgeous. I wonder how you ever found it." She laughed and then stepped to the side to give the two newcomers more space. It didn't hurt that this brought her closer to Adira.

Fallon would have let Adira touch the lace of her dress. She didn't like anyone to touch her things, but for Adira, she could make an exception. "Thank you," she said. A waiter passed by, and Fallon plucked a glass of pink juice from his tray. It was the strawberry juice that Jada had served them the night before. She sipped lightly on the edge of the glass, eying Adira over its crystal rim.

"I'm not sure what Jada's father does, actually -- aside from make money." Talk about Jada, but fish for more information about Adira; it was a plan. "My father is an engineer, not a businessman. His money comes from his innovations, mostly with microchips. He's been doing something with holograms lately, but honestly it just goes over my head." Fallon tilted the glass to her lips again, sipped. "He's still living in France so I don't hear as much about his projects anymore." Fallon interjected snippets of her life into the conversation, watching Adira as casually as she could manage. Once her interests were piqued, Fallon liked to entrench herself in the object of that interest to test its feasibility and strength.

As if on cue, Jada swept up to the table with Audrey trailing at her side. "Miss Chamberlyn, your crystal sequins are blinding," she said, holding up a hand as if to shield her eyes. Then she leaned in and whispered, "Best be careful around some of your suitors. They're old enough to be blinded." A smirk touched her lips, but vanished quickly as she straightened to include the whole of the group in the conversation.

Gabbie's disposition went unnoticed until she scared off the man asking her to dance. On one hand, Fallon admired the conviction. On the other, she thought it was a bit rude. Was Gabbie annoyed? She seemed in good spirits before Audrey left to get Jada. Had Fallon said something wrong? The minor tremor of unease was quickly forgotten. Fallon believed she had done the right thing for Audrey and was, therefore, correct in the matter. When a girl Fallon did not know approached, Gabbie seemed to brighten back up. All was well.

Oddy trailed cheerfully at Cordy's elbow, watching as Gabbie's face lit up at Cordy's approach. "So who's this?" He asked, as they approached. He smiled cordially at the small gathering, rocking on his heels as they stopped near the table. He wasn't familiar with either Gabbie or Falon on sight, there were just too many students out there for him to know them right off, so he waited politely for introductions.

Cordelia released Oddy's arm so that she could lean down to embrace Gabbie as though she had known the girl forever, giving her a squeeze as she let their cheeks touch long enough that she could whisper. "... You should have told me you were going to be here. I would have tried to find you sooner."

Then she straightened out, slipping her arm through her escort's once more. "Gabbie, allow me to formally introduce you to Erik Corlione, known amongst friends and family as Oddy." While it still seemed a bit strange strange to her calling him that, as odd as it was to call Demetri 'Demy' or Zac 'Z', it was becoming more familiar and it was most certainly said with a fondness.

She tugged lightly on his arm, forcing him to lean down so that she could whisper in his ear. "She's the one I told you about; the girl who was at the park too..."

After that was said she straightened out, attempting propriety once more. "I didn't mean to intrude on your group, but..." She shrugged lightly as though it were nothing, used to playing this game well enough. "... I thought it would be worth risking rudeness to check up on you."

"Oh!" Oddy's eyebrows raised sharply, as understanding flashed cross his features. "That's the one then. Sorry." He did his best to look as though really he should have remembered her, so sorry. "Nice to finally catch your name." He beamed at Gabbie, with his usual spotlight grin.

It was, at least for him, a damned amusing exchange of whispers. It felt a little James Bond. Suits, dresses and whispers. Now all they needed was Mr. Blowfeld and some martinis.

"Surely you jest." She told him with a raised eyebrow, and although she didn't really give much thought to it, she didn't really believe it either. It was still his family, his social circle, what he had been born into, and it could never change. She didn't see how anyone would shun that away, especially their own family. How could family not be everything to Seth too, when he had seemed to antagonize over his mother's birthday present!

"I will not let you sulk in a corner." Eve said briskly. "I'd feel incredibly bad since I dragged you here and make you not have fun..." She would have went on to say that she would not let him label this event as boring, if they had not been interrupted by the pink-haired girl whom had suddenly bumped into her date. Perhaps Seth would be glad that this girl now had her attention. See, he knew quite a few others too! Even if it seemed that he kept bumping into girls he knew so far... did all high-class families like to introduce their kids to each other in hopes of matchmaking? That was definitely a thought she couldn't put past them, seeing how Szelem was treating Jada.

"Hi, I'm Eve Summers." She introduced herself after Serah had noticed her. Honestly, Eve was rather amused at how awkward the situation the other thought she was in. "What's this about kicking fairies?"

Gabbie eyed the pair and grinned. She remembered Crdy's embrace with one of her own and whispered back, "Well, I didn't know I was going to be until this morning."

Then, as Cordy introduced her escort, Gabbie grinned even more, dropping a quick wink at Oddy.

"So this is your friend, awesome vest by the way. He cleans up pretty good. So do you and I am so happy to see you both!"

Then, remembering her own manners, she turned to the rest of the table and said simply, "This is Cordelia. And Oddy," she added on, grinning like a cat in the cream. "Cordelia, Oddy, that's Jaimie, Audrey, I don't know their names, and she can only be Jada, right?" she burbled, pointing to the boy, bluenette, Fallon, Adira and Jada in turn.

Jaimie, who'd lost himself in people watching and listening to the conversation, blinked as though he'd just woken up, and extended a hand to Oddy and Cordy, whoever got their first.
"Jaimie Leontyne." He introduced himself. Another rich family at the table then...at least by the black sheep side of its twins. He was definitely dressed more 'normally' for black tie than Oddy was, and blinked again, openly surprised by the outrageous vest and its rainbow streamers.
"That's one... wild vest." This was the nicest thing he could think to say about it. It definitely wasn't to his personal tastes.

Oddy beamed even more at Gabbie's wink, eating up every drop of conspiracy and loving it. "Thanks!" He took both Jaimie and Gabbie's comments as the most glowing reviews, even if one really wasn't, and seized Jaimie's hand for an enthusiastic shake. The fair haired Jaimie was, on his own slightly more effeminate of feature and long in finger, (again not as much as some) but compared to Oddy, he looked like a china doll who's fingers might snap off in Oddy's grip. Jaimie seemed to think so too, judging by his expression as Oddy pumped his hand by way of a greeting. "Yours is very..." He searched for a word. "Black."
If Jaimie's comment meant 'loud'...Oddys most definitely meant 'Boring'.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 16, 2010 9:10 am

It was all she could do to keep herself from laughing at the trade off of comments between the 'boys', bringing one hand up to lightly disguise the amusement as a cough. When it was clear that Oddy had finished his man-off in the handshake she offered her own gloved hand to Jaime. "It's good to see you again, Jaimie."

As good as it could be to see a boy who was attending Hillworth.

Her attention drifted easily back to Gabbie, her smile creeping back into the coolness that had overtaken her features when it came to the introductions. "He does, doesn't he? I'm incredibly lucky that he agreed to join me this evening. I would have been lost otherwise." Lost, bored out of her mind, resorting to coming up with a fake flu just to avoid the event... Threatening to invite Demetri.

"You look lovely too. That dress is much better than what you were wearing the last time I saw you. It's good to see you out and about." She nodded.

Laughing softly, Gabbie could only nod agreement and shrug eloquently.

"Well, I don't think hospital gowns flatter many people. And I am glad to see you decided not to drown yourself in homework for one night."

There was a gleam of understanding in Gabbie's eyes. They both knew where Cordy would have been if she hadn't come tot he party. Then, another grin as she reached out to pat Jaimie's hand with a sisterly affection.

"When you two aren't dancing, you can help keep the sharks in the water away from us."
