Sephiroth's was definitely longer... it was around 7ft, where as I don't believe Cloud's was even as tall as himself... and I'm pretty sure Cloud isn't anywhere near 7ft... so through transitive property, we can deduct that Sephiroth's is longer
Cloud's sword < Cloud < Sephiroth's sword
therefore
Cloud's sword < Sephiroth's sword.
I also think it's cooler... mostly because Sephiroth wields it, but there's also the allusions behind it (the name "Masamune" is just so intriguing). The Buster is big and bulky but Masamune is a clean, slick, quick, and very nice katana.
A sword like Cloud's probably wouldn't have been sharpened and would have been used for crushing, if it cut, it would be with its weight rather than precision... I'm just not into that sort of thing, I guess.
