Reiba looked down at Shanya, a small smile grazing his lips. "Why should I have gone out and killed you? For all I knew, you were already dead." Reiba muttered quietly, looking out at the town. The people seemed happier, the entire town seemed brighter. All because of one beggar? Odd.

"But my mother... she didn't cause grief throughout the kingdom like my father's death had. She was disliked among other royalty, possibly because she didn't interact among them, I'm not sure. She would use her money and power to help those on the streets, crippled children and adults, homeless shelters. She was born from a peasant household, and my father found her beautiful and helped bring her family higher up. Maybe that's why." Reiba thought, laying back down on the roof. "I don't know. I'm just like her in the sense of other royalty don't like me much."

"Your mother must have been a kind woman, then," Shanya said, still looking out to the city. "If she helped the people who didn't seem important to others, then she must have been. I'm sure you never wanted to kill her." His eyes closed, saddened with guilt and shame. "I guess the other royalty didn't bother to see that. It's such a shame."

But at least Tsukiyomi-sama knew what his mother was like. He knew what she did in her lifetime. As for Shanya, if he ever saw his mother, he couldn't remember her face or what she was like. For all he knew, maybe she never really loved him. If she had, she would have returned to visit once in a while and perhaps found him on the streets.

"There is... one other person I was told to kill as well." Reiba said quietly, balling up his hands into fist as he walked over to the edge of the roof. He was dangerously close now, almost close enough to just jump off and fall. But he didn't. He just stood out on the edge, putting all of his weight on one leg.

"I had to kill your mother, Shanya." Reiba confessed, shutting his eyes tightly and stuffing his hands in his pockets. "She saw me murder my mother. She saw it all. I lied when I told you that she ran off. She tried running away, but the council found out and sent me to keep her quiet. I couldn't stop her, I couldn't save her. I'm sorry." Reiba sighed.

A shadow, a small shadow, merely ran over Shanya's eyes. "I'm used to disappointments," he said very solemnly and coldly. "The next thing you know, the council and probably the whole town are going to get you to kill me." He stood up and walked to the ladder soon climbing down.

Shanya had been thinking about running away, and he had been thinking about it for a long time before today, but for some reason he just couldn't bring himself to do that. Maybe he would tonight. He would run to a different city... to a different kingdom. He can live as a person who was actually a person in other people's eyes rather than a bothersome pest.

Reiba listened quietly as Shanya retreated down the ladder, not even flinching to stop him. What could he do? He had literally betrayed his "best friend" three times. Once when he sent him back to the streets, once when he killed his mother, and again when he brought him to the castle. What kind of friend is that?

Finally, Reiba's foot found a hold on the side of the roof, and the young king leaped from his original standing point. Any random bystander would have though the child was trying to commit suicide, but in reality, Reiba was just using a quicker way down. He was already on his balcony, catching a hold of the railing so that he wouldn't fall over.

Shanya soon reached the balcony, but he didn't say anything to the king that had gotten there before him. Rather, he just walked inside, but he didn't bother to leave the room. Something seemed to tell him that it would be risky, considering what may be waiting for him out there. Maybe he should attempt to escape while the king was asleep, then he wouldn't call the guards.

The thoughts soon came to a conclusion of uselessness and Shanya just sighed. What was he thinking? There was no way he would be able to bypass the king's security. The only chance of escape that wouldn't end in his death would be to somehow walk with the king on a trip to the streets and escape through the crowd. Now that he wasn't a beggar anymore, the townsfolk would only think he was running an errand, right?

After hearing Shanya enter the room, Reiba turned around and followed him quietly, not saying a word. The boy was either deeply upset, or feeling completely let down and betrayed. And to think, the young king had almost fulfilled the boy's mother's wish as well.

"Shanya..." Reiba started, reaching out for the younger boy. "I know you're upset.... but please just try to understand. I'm king now, the council cannot order me to do something unless the law requires it. You're safe, no one's going to hurt you." He whispered.

"What did she look like?" Shanya asked suddenly. "Actually, what did both of my parents look like?" Such empty spaces that he had been dying to fill, and a large hole in his heart that had nothing to do with his parents. He couldn't even remember the face of the person who that hole once belonged to.

He didn't bother to try to push away the king's hand. Nothing mattered. All his life, he had been living on false hope and a strange want. Too many wishes never came true, and ghosts had haunted his life. Now, everything was just a black hole waiting to suck him in and crush him.

Reiba sighed, pulling the younger boy into his arms. "I'm not sure what your father looked like. I never met him." The young king whispered to into Shanya's ear. "But your mother looked like you. Long brown hair, sparkling golden eyes... She was beautiful."

Reiba pulled away, looking at the younger boy closely. "You can hate me all you want. Either way, you're kind of stuck here."

"I don't really hate you, Tsukiyomi-sama," Shanya said, still not looking at the king. "It wouldn't be right to hate someone who decided to make me a slave rather than take my life." A sigh escaped him, but he had been expecting it anyway.

"There's something I don't understand, and I hope that you may explain it." It was then that he turned to look at the king. "All my life, I had always wanted to meet you. I don't know why, but you were the reason why I never tried to join my parents." Before today, he had never known who the king was and what he had looked like. It was this very mystery that kept him alive, even when he had nothing and no one to live for.

"Most people do just live to see my face. After all, I am a ghost to them. Just another royalty with sapphire eyes." He said quietly, walking back over to the porch. "I had a woman come into the throne room one time. She asked if she could allow her daughter to see my face, just once. I agreed, I didn't know any better. The girl died in the throne room a few minutes after arriving." The young king muttered, turning back towards Shanya. "Sometimes, one's identity is so mysterious, one will live just for that moment."

"I don't think you're a ghost," Shanya said after hearing the story. "To me, you seem to be just another regular person. That's what you wanted to be, right?" A smile, though quite small and forced, decorated his face in hopes of chasing away part of the gloomy atmosphere. It may be futile, but there wasn't any hurt in trying.

Then Shanya thought he saw some light at the corner of his eye, but he shrugged it off. It was only his imagination, or maybe a stray light caught something that reflected it toward his eye. He had been seeing things lately anyway. It wouldn't be a surprise at all.

Reiba smiled lightly, even though it looked painful and was just as forced as the one spread across the younger boy's face. "Yes, I would like to be seen as an actual human being instead of a ghost." He said quietly, looking out the window again.

The lights danced playfully across all of the houses, the fires throwing shadows and the smoke curling from the chimneys. It was strange how peaceful the entire town seemed. Almost as if they were all happy. And that sort of made Reiba happy too.

Shanya turned his head to the window, which seemed to be where the flash of light had come from. His heart saddened when he saw the peace of the town. It had never been around when he was there. Then again, there seemed to have been peace in the castle before today.

He then began to think that he was Peace's worst nightmare. Wherever he went, something was wrong and peace disappears. It made him feel very much like a demon who just wanted someone who would accept him.

"Is there something wrong?" The young king asked, noticing the dejected look in the younger boy's eyes. He turned in the same direction that the boy was looking, and saw the peaceful town again. Was he sad because the town was happier now without him on the streets?

"Hey, if it makes you feel any better... this castle is much more bearable with you here." Reiba said quietly, his mouth twitching into an almost genuine smile. "Chaotic, yet fun. I haven't felt this good in... years."
