(( Hm o___O Actually, I can't find too much consistency on this matter. Most people are referring to "low rank" in Drow society just like low rank in human society... and "High Priestess". Hm. Owells... I guess I'm safe, then? ))

Coline pulled her knees close to her chest again, her temple resting upon it as she listened to the drow's story. It didn't take long for her brow to curl up in sympathy. She... had no idea he held such a cruel past. What she experienced growing up was nothing to what he went through. At least that's what she thought.
He was displeased, that she could tell. She recognized the dismissive tone in his voice. It was best to end the questions there. "I'm... sorry to hear that, sir." she said, feeling the need to address him formally again. Her head remained steady yet her eyes darted towards the sand, just by the Captain's feet. "For what it's worth, I--" she cleared her throat, "The troops... The troops look up to you, sir. You're the embodiment of everything we aspire to be."

(( Just read your story in War Stories =3 how did I miss it before?! XD Veeery intriguing =3 )) All good is hard, and all evil is easy. Dying, losing... To what would have been the complete shock of any observer, The Captain suddenly gave a single bark of laughter.
"Hmmm," he said, lips still curled up into a smile "Not too bad for a heretic and a shebali, hm?" ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.

The recruit's eyes widened at the Captain's sudden outburst. Heat started to rise up her cheeks as she lifted her head, reverting back into a loose sitting position. "Sir...?" Coline called out cautiously, a hint of puzzlement in her tone.

Coline stared in awe, the recent goings-on still not quite registering into her head properly. But upon realizing just how long she had been staring turned her eyes away and flashed a bashful grin.
"I never would have believed it if I hadn't witnessed it myself. Eh heh..." she confessed.

It was getting more and more difficult to look the Captain straight in the face without having to sport a flushed expression. Seeing him smile was... well, quite a sight. A pleasant sight. It almost felt like she was dreaming.
But calling to attention what brought about their meeting in the first place snapped Coline out of her stupor. "Oh... that." Her face started to show traces of discomfort. "I-It's no big deal, really." she said, debating whether or not she should tell him of her three-pronged blunder.

However, the traces of his strange hilarity had begun to fade from his face. "No, in all seriousness - if it's a matter to do with your training, I will do all in my power to set things straight for you."
Shifting slightly, Jessie happened to glance up at the sky again, and realised that time had passed... a lot of time. His face widened a moment in shock, and then he got to his feet in one fluid movement.
"I'm terribly sorry, Coline - I'm going to have to end our conversation here for today. Would you allow me to escort you back to the Temple?" he asked, proferring his hand. "I won't see you training for the rest of the day. You need your sleep rather badly," he added, a hint of warning in his voice - an 'at least, I'd better not see you in training' kind of warning. ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Valsharess - queen
Shebali - rogue/outcast drow. There's a specific name for Drow like Jessie who have abandoned their kind for a life on the surface, but I'll be damned if I can find it now. I found it completely by accident when I didnt need it weeks ago, damn it D; WHY NOT NOW
Lotha'uss - Little one. Would probably be mocking amongst Drow/an unforgiveable insult from a male to a female, but here, with the number of factors, it's just a - dare I say it? - affectionate pet name. XD
Yeah, I've been doing lots of reading and comparing translations between my posts. emo ))

"Ah, yes. That... would be nice." she answered, taking the offered hand and pulling herself up. It was just about time for morning prayer, wasn't it? "Thank you."
Dusting the sand off of her robe, Coline straightened herself, feeling a certain degree of regret as they started to make way for the Temple. She was to lose another day of training all because of that stunt she pulled the night before. But only if she chooses to follow the Captain's advice.
Glancing up at the drow, her eyes softened. The least she could do was cede to his wishes, at least for today. For the events of that morning ascertained her of one thing: beneath that icy demeanor, the Captain was quite kind.
Yes... Her Captain was quite kind.
((Lol good call, I'm just about at my limit. xD And yaaay for research! *gives Lori a cookie* <3 I can't do any of that fancy foreign tongue stuff on Coline though, she be human. I would if I could. D: ))
