The notes he sent the managers would really be secret love notes, or Raoul would be the object of his affections instead; and if the Persian didn't exist, then Raoul would have fallen for one of Erik's traps and faced his imminent doom when he went after Christine.

Raoul Would have various hate messages and a few love ones.
Christine would keep getting creepy/threatning love messages from erik
(like in scream)
