It took Marko a while to extract himself from Xeran's admittedly extremely firm (oh Faranth don't think in that direction now when Hayara's life was on the line) grasp. By the time he had, he spared a glance at the Sands to spot Hayara again and noticed that a great deal of dragons had already hatched and Impressed. There were barely any eggs left, from the look of it. Not that that mattered, considering the Queen was left, and who knew what sort of mess would come when she burst forth. Look at the way some of these dragons were already! Hissing like that...he shuddered and took a step away from Xeran.

Somehow, the younger man had managed to position himself between Marko and the only direct path down from the stands. Scowling at him, Marko moved forward but stopped a scant few inches from Xeran. "I am going to go get her, Xeran. Please get out of my way." Trying to shove past Xeran, he eventually stopped when he realized it would come to no end. "Would you let Vera stand down there where she could be killed?" he asked pointedly, as a last-ditch attempt to get through to Xeran.

Though he had dropped his voice to the normal level, the near-panicked tone hadn't lost its urgency in any way, and it was perfectly clear from his face that Marko was either going to work himself into a tizzy on the stands or march right onto the Sands and drag his sorry Apprentice straight back to Harper Hall. He was completely oblivious to anyone other than Xeran and Vera at this point, and it didn't seem likely to change.

Something needed to be done about this.

The young candidate watched the not-so decisive green mildly, frowning slightly and contemplating his general attitude, which was mostly due to both bronzes having already found theirs. As he watched the green choose her own from the others he decided that if jealousy was a knife, he would be quite definitively dead. As he stared over the crowd at the remaining eggs he bit his tounge crankily, which didn't help to lighten his mood.

Tideal tried to cheer himself up boredly, stopping paying attention and mostly falling back in his mind to think of other things. Boredom, random ideas, what would be for dinner tonight. 'Oh this is exciting.' He though to himself. 'So many happy people and I'm off on a tangent thinking about pillows and the weather.'
Pillows.
Maybe if he put a shirt in his it would be more comfortable. He smiled slightly at the thought of a nice pillow. Or the ones at home, soft, fluffy, and comfortable.
Then he was back to the train of thought he was avoiding with the simple thought. He would sleep on frozen rocks for a dragon.

"Oh shards." He said without thinking, and frowned with a vengeance.

Yes, the greens went much quicker, he thought to himself as he slowly brushed a small bit of sand from his arm. The newly impressed seemed so happy and alive. He wanted to feel that way but his energy was almost spent. 3 more eggs to go could it happen quick enough? Wow that was quite a shift from his eagerness when he arrived. The headache and coughing made this most glorious occasion into one that started to numb his senses.

He wobbled just a hair but caught himself sharply, Whoa. That wasn't hunger... Something wasn't right but surely he'd be ok...Right? It wasn't too far to the dorms and his bed...then, sleep it off. But first, he had to see the last of the hatchlings arrive. Someone he knew might get another and he wanted to be there to see it...One person he knew already had impressed so it was possible; and he had to see if Firyal or Hanya might be lucky with the gold egg. Yes, he had to see that. So he took a deep breath that sounded more like a wheeze and pulled himself together focusing back on the 3 eggs that were left.

The second green, the only Hatchling standing on the Sands, and she was on the move! Nandeli followed her movements breathlessly and her jaw dropped when the dragon stopped before a very familiar boy. Kiriwar! Kiriwar had Impressed! Not only Okassis her best sleepover buddy ever but Kiriwar the adorable dimpled gay boy! This Hatching totally had to be the best Hatching ever! (Had she said that already? The heat was really getting to her brain). She made a mental note to tackle hug him when she got to the Hatching Feast the moment all of this egg hatching was finished. Kiriwar would get to stay at the Weyr! They could still be friends! Nandeli had to be the happiest Candidate on the Sands and boy was she ever proud of it.

Kiriwar had gotten chosen too! Now he had to move over to another seat entirely, spreading his long legs. Noting in the back of his haad, Notos had to ask if there was any connection between Jiriar and Kiriwar, especially since a related pair of dragons had chosen them. Or were they just friends? Needless, he was really glad! His friends had gotten to impress, just as they wanted to. Oh wait.. they had new names, didn't they? Notos had to ask them later what exactly was their names, so he could at least do it correctly.

He glanced at the section where those that had impressed had gone, with a smile of his own. It was going to be a bit lonely on the hatching grounds now that both of them had to attend to their dragons. But that was life, wasn't it?

"Lovely." He commented, wishing that he had something to occupy his mouth. Jessan was still here, correct? "Well, it looks like its just you and me." A reluctant chuckle accompanied that remark, raking his hands through his black hair. He tilted his gaze upwards, not really concentrating on anything.

Jessan looked over at Notos and Kiriwar as the other green approached them rather quickly. Jiriar, or what would his cousin's shortened name be, had made it off the sands with his beautiful dragon. This girl was pretty as well. What lovely stripes and coloring.

She circled them, back and forth, enjoying teasing them it seemed. Finally, she stopped her little game and moved forward towards the three boys. Which one would it be? Jessan waited to here that voice in his head... Finding his other half but then he saw the look on Kiriwar's face and new Impression had been made.

SHARDS! How awesome was that? Two picked from their very group in one Hatching. Surely now, he would have to hunt both boys down and congratulate them during the Feast later. He stifled a yawn, that is, if he could stay awake. How late into the night were they anyways? With a handful of eggs plus the gold left to hatch?

"Good job, Kiriwar," he whispered before the pair made their way off the Sands. Looking back to Notos, he winked. "Who do you think might be next?"

As if on cue, Vera coughed. She was trying to pay attention, trying to keep it together. The waves of dizziness were becoming quite irritating really. "Marko, what was that? You don't want your flute finished?" The impact of her statement was somewhat diminished by the onset of another fit of coughing. Shardit! She tried to muster up her usual firmness and fell somewhat sort. Honestly, what was the man thinking? Was he seriously considering dragging Hayara off of the Sands?

"Xer... don't let him out of your sight." Frowning, she fixed Marko with a level glare. "Be reasonable. You can't go out there on the Sands now. What if you upset the dragonets?" Did he want to be responsible for a hatchling flying between, or perhaps harming a Candidate out of confusion? Ridiculous, ridiculous man! She shook her head, and then deeply regretted it. That dazed feeling wasn't going away, to her great frustration. Now was not the time for such a thing.

Oh Faranth. This was much tougher than Elae had thought. She didn’t know any of these people personally, of course, but she had heard so much of them from Nan. She was laughing and smiling along with the others but, inevitably, the laughter turned into a hacking cough. And it just wouldn’t stop. She covered her mouth with her hand, since no one wanted to see anyone else cough. Her knees wobbled a little and she had to put a hand on Raena’s shoulder to support herself.

She turned away slightly, because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Unfortunately, the only thing that achieved was making her cough in a different direction. It certainly didn’t help with her breathing at all, or her vision which was fading rapidly. She blinked furiously, trying to see anything more than a small circle.

And then nothing. Some small part of her was aware she was falling, but there was nothing she could do to stop it.

And there went the banded green. Good. Good. They had both found their riders. Okay. What was going- Yeah. Watching the weyrlings to make sure they don't overfeed. F'sey barked a warning to one of the newly made bronzeriders, he didn't know who was who yet, before looking back out over the sands, waiting for the new greenriders to amble their way over. So much supervision! At least this clutch wasn't too terribly big. Not small like last clutch, but not ridiculous.

...Mine?

Yes?

...nothing. Ialluth rumbled to herself, pleased that Hers was, at least, not referring to her as 'that headache' anymore, even if it was still bothering him greatly. Well, as long as he didn't flop over, and as long as he kept a sharp eye on all the little ones, she couldn't complain. Just hustle him off to sleep as soon as everyone was well taken care of. Ceylith's voice caught her attention then and the mottled green tipped her head, sighing softly. She couldn't lie!

No. He is not. At all, she replied, though she offered no explanation. It wasn't as though she was holding off on her friend, she had no idea what was going on herself! Hers tried to convince her that he was just tired, and working a lot, and maybe this is what getting old is, but she didn't believe him. Even if he was tired and sore, he was coughing...and he didn't have his usual sharp tongue. He is going to sleep when he takes care of all the little ones, she finally informed her friend. She would make sure of it! What would Hers ever do without her?

(Hope you don't mind, FerretPrince!)

Notos laughed good-naturedly, about to answer to Jessan when something else in the crowd caught her eye. There was a girl, quite wobbly on her feet. Her erratic movements were the ones that caught his eye, Notos stared intently at her for a few seconds, when she suddenly began to lose her balance.

Diving through the crowd, Notos sprinted on his feet to catch the poor girl before she hit the ground. he just barely made it, falling down himself in the process. But he had caught the girl in his arms, disheveled. His robe was falling off his shoulder, dust in his hair, his hair was in disarray. "Hey.. wake up." A hand tapped her cheek lightly, seeing that she was unconscious. What the shards?!

Xeran was very, very good at getting in the way. It was something he had perfected by now, mostly because there was a lot of him. Besides, he was not about to let Marko run off and do something so… stupid! The man would get himself killed! Didn’t he know what Hatchings were like?! Admittedly, Xeran had never even Stood for a dragon Hatching, but he knew what whers were like. The mother would rip apart anything she considered to be a threat and a large, flailing Harper would certainly be one of those!

But Marko had a point… if Vera was on the Sands, even a raging dragon couldn’t keep Xeran away from her. But… “Vera has enough sense not to do something so foolish,” he said with a shrug. Oh, Faranth. He knew that look on Marko’s face. And it was up to Xeran to be the reasonable one about this.

He hated being the reasonable one. He was no good at ‘reasonable’. For a moment, he looked Marko up and down, mentally judging something. Marko had a few inches on him, true, but the man was built like a stick. “Welp, if you won’t be reasonable…” In one smooth motion, Xeran attempted to throw Marko over his shoulder.

It didn’t go too well. Marko looked skinny, but he was really rather lean. And muscle weighed quite a bit. In the end, Xeran began to simply drag the redhead out rather than carry him. Who cared, so long as he was removed from the Sands before he could get himself killed?

"They are cute, aren't they," she admitted, almost distractedly. It wasn't like her to be so off, especially about something so important. But her head was starting to bother her a little...why was it so hot?!? She picked at her robe, running a finger in circles over the fabric, trying to keep her mind sharp by concentrating. It didn't seem to help much, and only made her head hurt more. She was tired...but she wouldn't give in just yet! There was a party to go to after this, and boy did she love parties; and a few eggs, including the queen egg, still had to hatch. She could stay awake for that.

Her shoulder twitched a little involuntarily. That was weird. Dehydration maybe? Getting the shakes wasn't uncommon under stress, she supposed. Though she felt fine a candlemark ago...She had to focus on the eggs! She smiled dazedly as the greens impressed. Good for them. They were quite a pair, weren't they? Her hand reached for her flask, only to realize she didn't have it. Oh right, she was at a hatching...but she was so thirsty. She wiped the back of her neck. Ew. Sweating was normal, but sweating this much was gross. Her back felt sticky. She couldn't wait to change.

Lanakirene had arrived too late to find a place in the stands, and had been lurking by the entrance opposite C'ym. Though she had managed to find a brief spell of time to wave at the boy, she hadn't really achieved much else, spending the rest of her time focusing on the new dragonets and keeping Isonth from fussing over every creature out on the Sands. And she would have kept it that way, except that Isonth, from the spot she had found nearer the stands, called down to her shortly after the latest little dragon (a truly adorable green thing) had Impressed.

Lanamine...there are many who look unwell.

La had noticed the coughing but not thought much of it. Some light illness brought on by seasonal changes? Something simple, she had assumed, and dismissed it while she tried her hardest to mark the eggs. Apparently, Isonth felt differently.

Lanamiiiiiiiiiine. They look very unwell. There is one girl who looks most unwell.

For a moment, La caught a glimpse of a head that looked vaguely familiar. And another image, followed by Lanamiiiiiine! She has fainted! What do I do? Can we do something? solidified it. She knew that face and body. Elae might not have been the best of her friends, but they certainly had a past together, and she had just fainted. La hissed and looked around for some of the appointed healers.

They must be nearby, but she wasn't seeing them from her spot. Shaking her head, she pushed lightly just through the entrance, skirting the wall and keeping an eye on the gap where Elae must lie. "This is bad," she muttered. "Very, very bad."

Are you going to her, Lanamine? Go to her!

Isonth, I'm working on it! I'm not a Healer!

Annelie had gone on and on, relaying the events -- at least what she could see -- to a seemingly very content and bubbly Yansanth. She was doing better this time around at being a news caster compared to the last Hatching, which hopefully would result in less whining from her bonded.

With the current light lull in events, Annelie once more got way up on her toes and tried to look amidst the crowds of the candidates, seeing if she saw any well, recognizable faces. ...Her search was unsuccessful though and she could only see the tops of their heads. Something did suddenly catch her eye, though: what seemed to be a sudden, small commotion, and the black-haired woman gave a childish leap up into the air to see better.

She wasn't sure if she was right, but suddenly a head seemed to dip and fall below the 'horizon' of heads, and if she wasn't mistaken... it, well... looked vaguely like Elae. Annelie couldn't be sure, she could barely see after all, but the thought of it sent her into worry, which immediately filtered to Yansanth and thus doubled.

"Ciill..." Annelie suddenly said, her voice nervous and full of dread and uncertainty. She looked over her shoulder to the young man and called again in a hushed tone, then moved over to him and quickly tapped his arm, nearly bumping into La on her way.

"Cil-- C'ym! I think Elae fainted. I can't be sure but I swear it was her..."

Gh'lan would have been enjoying this particular Hatching almost as much as the one that had brought him Khunoth, except he couldn't shake the gathering headache or the damp undershirt he was wearing. Vaguely, he wondered if he had accidentally put on a wet shirt earlier that afternoon when he had changed... but surely that didn't make sense!

Gh'lan?

Khunoth's voice startled him, though not for the lack of sound in his head. It had a smooth quality to it that his fevered mind found immensely refreshing...Wait? He wasn't running a temperature, this was ridiculous! A little headache never...

Bah.

Just keep talking Khu... I'm.. fine.... He started, only to find that the second wash of dizziness took him almost too forcefully for him to bear. Dimly, he felt his body sag back against the seat, heard a roaring in his ears that must surely be the crowd's response to another successful Impression, hopefully one of the last.Oh... dear....

GH'LAN!!
