No. Because a requirement in Soul Society is that a Taichou must have reached Bankai or killed the previous Taichou in fair battle with a bunch of witnesses. Only two non captains have achieved Bankai to our knowledge, Renji, and the guy from 11th squad. Neither of whom want it
Do you want the current battle in the manga to speed up a bit?

Ever climbed onto a portable and jumped down? (I would do it, but I have to master rolling after I land to soften the landing)
