The remaining Shadows glanced at the wolf with their silver eyes, but then turned to face Shef again. It was clear that they could not have cared less about their other opponents; they wanted the boy and his owl.

Regond flew in front of Shef and spread his wings wide, as if protecting him from the Shadows.
"Foul beasts!" he scowled, "I won't let you take him!"

The Shadows lunged toward Shef, their fingers as long as rapiers now.

"Ugh, Holly..." Narissa moaned, flicking her tongue out. Let me put this in terms you'll understand... "Paint a picture!"
At first Holly was confused, then she swept out her hand, as if it were the brush and she were painting some outrageous piece with savage strokes. She could feel something stir within her, the same power that had taken a blow when the shadow's blade struck her arm. It welled within her, channeling itself through her good arm...
... And only a slight puff of water vapor was the result. "Damn..." she said, letting her arm drop.
Narissa hissed in frustration, and although she couldn't see the sky (her eyesight was very poor, being a snake), she could feel that there wasn't a cloud for miles around. "Holly, concentrate on the moisture in the ground."
The most Holly would be able to do with that would be able to make a fog, until she harnessed her powers more fully. But that might be enough...

((Okay... how are we going to get through this? I wasn't counting on the Shadow-thing to decimate Reign in one blow.
Ughhh... I'm not going to have to introduce ANOTHER guardian and guarded in order to preserve this fight, am I?))
Calentine immediately started as a roar reached his ears. "Onstaan--" the young warrior began, but one look showed that the creature really was no place to be found.
Calentine drew his sword and closed his eyes. When they reopened a moment later, the pupils were white, and a pulse--visible, but too fast to track with the naked eye--propelled out in a forward direction. Immediately, Calentine could see for miles... and then the giant tortoise-like creature stampeding towards him became apparent.
With a swear word, the warrior leaped--and landed on the thick branch of one of many large trees, some ten yards above.
The warrior was ready.

((I was actually thinking of making a new character, but I wasn't sure about it... He was going to be a kind of grandfatherly person, a mentor or something. I'll need a lot of help to pull it off though, seeing as how I'm not really sure how this Ether stuff works. If you and Kaye'll help, I'll do it. But if you don't want to, we'll figure something else out *shrug*))

"I think I love you even more now than I did when you were alive." Reign grunted, raising herself up on shaking legs. Then she barked. A blast of wind slammed into the Shadows of Luma, sending them spiraling backwards and away from the group, the gusts like slicing blades. The purple butterfly shimmered in the light, fluttering down to rest softly on Reign's great head. "Are you all right, Reign?" The little creature asked softly as Reign shook herself. "Yeah, I'm fine," she replied. "Thanks for your help Alhiria."
"No problem," the butterfly replied. "I hate these pests as much as you do."Reign chuckled. "This coming from an insect," she replied, grinning wolfishly. Alhiria's wings fluttered in annoyance. "Hush, you," she replied simply. "I could've just left you and the boy to die.""Alhiria, don't talk like that," the new girl interrupted gently, walking up to them. "That's so unkind." Alhiria's wings fluttered for a moment. "My apologies, Floreta," she stated simply after a moment as Floreta kneeled down next to Shef. "Are you all right?" She asked softly as Falian walked over as well to inspect Reign, running her fingers through her Guardian's fur. "How's your Sacred Gaia, Reign?" She asked. "Fine," the wolf replied. "Apparently those rodents can only drain Sacred Gaia in the Ether. On Earth, it's just regular energy. I'll be back to normal soon."We are a people that are obsessed with Death.
