And you know you're old when you're reaction to D&D 4.0 is "I'm not learning Another damn system!"

Seems to me they are re-vamping the system to accomodate little kids who are more used to an MMO style of play. But your right, I was very satisfied with 3.5, it had some problems but this 4.0 crap is too much of a change. Luckily I downloaded the whole thing as aposed to buying it as I wanted to see what it was about before spending the loot.

I still have my D&D "Keep on the Borderlands" module I think it was the second or third to come out, back before D&D even had an A in it. If that doesn't make me feel old I don't know what else will biggrin

You know you're old when...
. . . you go to renew your library card, and it's not in their computer system yet. confused Happened to me....

. . . you talk about ANYthing from a decade ago or more, and kids have no CLUE what you're talking about.

. . . when the questions in your version of Trivial Pursuit get confused looks from your cousins. (Mine was published guess when? Way back in '81. There are questions about Reagan and Russia is still referred to as the Soviet Union. I need to get an updated one, more friendly for family use...)

. . . when you actually feel like you can give life advice to someone barely ten years younger than you.

This is great!

You know you're old when:

...you call businesses that were renamed years ago by their old names.

...you say,"I love Bread" and a youngin says,"white or wheat?"

...you see someone in their late twenties or early thirties and are tempted to say,"I used to change your diapers."

...your baby picture is black and white

...you can sing the theme song to Gilligan's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Brady Bunch...

...you remember watching The Mod Squad, The Electric Company, Sonny and Cher, Hee-Haw, Love American Style, H.R. Pufnstuf...

...you say,"leggo my eggo" or "hey Mikey, he likes it"

...you still have an 8-track player AND tapes for it

...you remember when pay phones cost .10 to make a call

...you remember when Mark Wahlberg sang and started the trend of wearing baggy, hanging pants that show off boxers (can that one die already?)

...you remember when people use to date BEFORE they had sex or even remember what dating is.

You drop the line, "Two dollars!" from Better Off Dead and get blank looks.

You find it odd that candy bars aren't fifty cents. And can't believe penny candies are two cents.

Yes, but I really liked Shadow Run better.
My ex kept all my D&D, AD&D, and Shadowrun stuff. Plus my miniatures, including Elfquest. So long ago....now I use multi-sided dice to teach probability in math class.

4.0 is more and more computer game like. That is weird, but does work at some level. Playing isn't the same as with 3.5 but I'm not complaining, I still like old Vampire the Masquerade more. mrgreen

We too have old, original D&D boxes and books. Those are all worn out and loved. Same for RuneQuest.

I'd say I hated the rule system of Shadowrun. sad I'd play it, but with different system. (Whee. Do we need tabletop rpg thread?)

You know you're old when...
-you catch yourself saying, "Well, when I was your age..."
-you can refer to events in your past by using the word "decades" instead of "years"
-you fondly reminisce about gas that was under a dollar a gallon (my grandma reminisces about gas that was under FIFTY CENTS a gallon)
-you wonder why the heck the youngsters are wearing 80's styles NOW when they weren't all that great THEN
-you mention 8-tracks and get a blank look from the younger set... you mention cassette tapes and STILL get a blank look. True story. (Can't say records anymore, though. Vinyl's coming back!)

I know I'm old when...
I get game spat at me by a much younger guy. Wanting to get rid of him quickly, I'll have him guess my age. He'll usually guess anywhere from 16 to 20 (I'm on the downslope to 30). I take much delight in giving him a cool stare and informing him I could have baby-sat him in high-school. Yeah, watching their big heads deflate after that is so satisfying. wink

Yeah shadow run is great, wish the system worked better, I play tested Vampire back in the day, have many scars from being too enthusiastic trying to live play it. Now I'm into White Wolfs Exalted, and been trying out an interesting system called Burning Wheel, I have all the books on my computer for Rifts, witch is also much fun, Ninjas and Super Spies, There's a super heros one but I can't remember the name. Yeah I have a Weekly gaming session with some guys around town, one of the first things I try to do when I move to a new city is try to find a gaming group. Now I'm gonna hafta find a new group for Florida for next year.

Also D&D 4th sucks, its all messed up like 2.5. I like 1st, and I just learned it this month... Thaco is simple.

You know you're old when your Hubby screams "Why is Starbuck a chick?!" and you actually know what he's talking about.

This one's not gonna make much sense but...You know you're old when someone asks you who Jack the Ripper is and you actually give them the right answer. No lie, some 17 year old asked me who Jack the Ripper was and none of the kids her own age could answer her. I was shocked!
