"well," he said putting his arm behind his head, "Sam, I train some of the more controllable beasts in the basements in my spare time. I train them to hunt, and then bring back their kill to me. I give the ones who succeed on this task little treats every now and then, as well as use the hunted animals as food for all the other monsters. It's a system and it works, but if you're wondering about the cage and lot I hold them in, I bought it long ago, when I was a younger vampire. Every now and then, I have to repair a cage here or there, but other than that, everything else kinda falls into place." he sighed finally finishing his explanation, "my turn," he said turning this asking questions thing into a game, "why'd you stay in the police job, even after you figured out they were corrupted?"

Sam paused.
"I never knew they were so corrupted. I know I'm dense, but..."
She sighed.
"I didn't think Ross hated me that much. Sure, there was the occasional jab from him of 'if you were my prostitute you'd get more money', but... Hey!"

She put two and two together [finally].
"Ross started hating me when I arrested him for being with a stripper! I wondered why they looked alike. They were the same person!"

I smiled down at Teddy. "Alright then," I said to him, hooking an arm around his waist. "What do you want to do tonight?" I asked him, nuzzling in his hair. I pulled myself around so I could face him. "Aside from the obvious," I added with a smirk.

Teddy laughed a bit, but he still turned red from embarrassment. How could he still be embarrassed? Really, he'd already done it once. Maybe it just took a few more times... And thinking that was not helping him to not be embarrassed. "I hadn't thought that far ahead. You know the area better than I do; what do you like to do? Besides the obvious."

"...wow, you were the one, he talke about a chick locking him up....you...were...her?!, HAHAHAHA" he couldn't help bursting out in laughter, now he knew more of her than he thought he knew, because Ross had come in many times talking about a girl that 'wasn't all there', and now he realized this was that girl, "hahaha, apparently your reputation exceeds you as well. Alright your turn for a question, haha" he said gripping his side and trying not to laugh.

I laughed against his neck as I took in his scent. It was so intoxicating. The amount of pheramones he was admitting was ridiculously exciting.
"Something different," I mumbled. "How about the Circus?" It had been a while since I'd been there. Besides, Kit's familiar scent was wafting from that direction.

"Okay, sure. I don't think I've seen a circus since I was like ten." Oddly enough, Teddy couldn't remember any rumors about the Circus. It was as if people avoided it for some reason. But it was a Circus; those were always lots of fun. Maybe they had cotton candy. "Lead the way!" Teddy grinned up at Markus who was definitely smelling him again. That was still a little strange, but he kind of liked it.

"I once entered a tournament against literal gods, I mean, the creators of the omniverse! My mission was to find out who was running it, but Ross later said that the prize money was to be used for questioning. It was a little short of 3 million dollars. I had to hand it over, or he would send the armed forces after me, as well as a imprisonment for disrupting police work."

Sam paused.
"My question? ..A-Am I... a burden?"

Without warning, I scooped Teddy up into my arms and skipped - yes, skipped - to the nearby forboding, grey structure that housed the Circus of the Damned, as well as the Master of the City's private quarters. Jean-Claude was not there very often, though. He often slept in... other beds.
I dug out some spare cash and started to pay for Teddy's and my tickets when I realized who was operating the ticketbooth.
"Sam?" I gasped. "Why are you working here?" I set Teddy down, but kept him within touching distance.
