Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Tue Jul 08, 2008 9:39 pm

Honest mistake.

Daemon admitted, feeling more and more sorry for Pen by the minute. There was no way this man was going to live that one down.

He's probably going to be mortified now.

Daemon was quite right, for Pen's face was as bright a shade of red as it had ever been.

"Ah ... other ... man?" he said in a questioning tone, looking around. "I ... um ..."

Gion was quite amused by this time, and he stepped forward to draw attention towards himself.

'I have to admit,' he signed, 'it has been a long time since I have not been recognized at least as an adult.'

Pen of course had no idea what Gion was saying, but he stared, realizing at least that Gion was indeed ... the other man to whom Donovan was referring. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out, and his face turned even redder.

Lothiriel laughed. "And now you know why he is called the Child Warrior," she teased Pen, stepping away from her mother and slipping her hand into his. She giggled and turned to look at Gion. "Father, this is Pengolodh, my fiance. Pen, my father, Gion, and my mother, Nadya, and my brother, Galdor."

Nadya laughed. "It's a pleasure to finally see you face to face," she beamed, echoing the words of Gion's hands. "We've been looking forward to meeting the man who stole our daughter's heart."

Earendil was walking down the corridor with Lin, having just returned from an evening training session at the base of the mountain with her. They were deep in conversation (as was usual for them) but as they turned the corner of the corridor he held up one hand to interrupt them. He heard voices ... some that he recognized and some that he didn't ... and when he looked forward he could see Donovan, his cousin Lothiriel, and his Uncle Gion, as well as three others that he didn't recognize.

He glanced down at Lin. "Do you know who they are?" he asked curiously.

Lin's eyes lit up at seeing Lothiriel and Pen there, she wondered if Pen figured out yet that Lothiriel had been flirting back? She grinned and murmured to Earendil.

"Only one of the three.. but my guess is.. two of them are related to Lothiriel, and the one she's holding hands with is Pen."

She giggled and took Earendil's hand, tugging on it a bit.

"Come on!" she was sure Earendil would find Pen to be fun.

Donovan did his best to at least not chuckle, his eyes going from each family member as Lothiriel introduced them. Though they landed upon the sword on Gion's back. He couldn't help it.. he knew he shouldn't, but he knew from Lin Lothiriel was quite fond of his father-in-law.

"There is one more person," he reminded Lothiriel softly.

Lothiriel giggled at Donovan, her eyes sparkling mischievously.

"Oh, I know," she assured him. "I just didn't want to give him too many shocks too quickly."

Pen raised one eyebrow at her. "Too many?" he repeated incredulously. "Since I've met you you've done nothing but give me shocks. That bag of yours, your skill, your family ... what else could there be?"

Lothiriel's eyes shone as she looked at her fiance.

"My best friend growing up," she replied simply.

Earendil picked up his pace and followed quickly after Lin, his curiosity rising. Lin was obviously eager for him to meet the man. Personally, he was glad to see his uncle and cousin again - and he was certain that the others must be his aunt and other cousin.

He followed Lin quickly, as eager as she to meet everyone.

Donovan was half tempted to say her best friend was a sword, but he bit his lip and didn't say anything. Though he had to admit that Pen had a point, it seemed between them and everyone else Pen was the few introduced into a not so normal aspect of Lothiriel's life.

What was normal these days anyways?

"Lothiriel!" Lin let go of Earendil's hand once she was close enough and hugged her friend.

It was so good to see her, and she was always lots of fun too. Lin looked to the side to grin at Pen.

"Hi Pen."

Lothiriel laughed and hugged Lin back.

"You've grown!" she exclaimed cheerfully. "You look wonderful!"

Pen grinned, relaxing for the first time since finding out that his fiancees family was there. "Hello, Lin," he said softly. "It's nice to see you again."

Lothiriel giggled and winked at Lin, then turned back to Pen. "Would you like to meet him?" she asked him eagerly. "My best friend growing up?"

Pen blinked at her in surprise. "Is he here?"

"He's been here the whole time," Donvoan replied, this time he couldn't keep the chuckle out.

He was far more amused by this than he should have been. It could not be helped, after all how often was it, that he was amused by his father-in-law being Lothiriel's best friend?

Lin looked between Lothiriel and Pen wondering what Lothiriel had up her sleeve. She had missed the beginnings of the conversation so she had no idea what Lothiriel was thinking.

"What is turning in your head?" she asked Lothiriel.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:27 pm

Lothiriel looked at Lin innocently. "Nothing," she replied. "I just want to introduce them, that's all."

The bewilderment on Pen's face only increased at Lothiriel turned to her father and held her hands out, and he looked as though he were about to panic when Gion whipped out the sword from the sheath on his back - and even when he simply placed it in Lothiriel's waiting hands, Pen couldn't help but feel nervous.

"Um ... Lothiriel ..."

Lothiriel held the sword lovingly in her hands, running one finger along the cold steel.

Hello again, Daemon, she thought to the man within the blade. I've missed you. I expect you've been seeing some of my adventures?

A warm chuckle flitered in, the soul within the sword highly amused at what Lothiriel was going to do. More so because he remembered some of those adventures she had been on.

Yes... your father thinks of you often and whatever I don't see your mother gladly fills us in. You have certainly been up to a lot.

Lin too couldn't help but giggle at what Lothiriel was doing. She understood the moment that Gion took the sword out. Even though the young lady didn't know what sort of humour her grandfather had... she was sure he was enjoying this.

"Don't worry," Donovan murmured to Pen, "You'll live."

I'm sure she does, Lothiriel giggled. And it's not my fault so much happens when we travel. At any rate, I want to introduce you to Pen, would you like to meet him? I don't know where we're going to be settling down once we're married but no matter where it is it would probably be a long time before we could see you again, and I'd like you two to meet.

Pen was staring at Lothiriel as if she were crazy, and he looked dubiously at Donovan. "Why is she laughing at a sword?" he asked softly, hoping he wouldn't get smacked for his trouble.

"I would tell you...." Donovan replied trailing off for a moment, "But I'm enough of a b*****d not to tell you and just let you find out for yourself."

This caused his daughter who was the most like him to roll her eyes. She couldn't ever understand that since she one day found out that the swear word.. b*****d actually meant born of wedlock, but was often used to describe someone who had an awful personality.

"Is this why you've grown to have a reputation of being a malnipuative one?"

"Yea, though mainly because I use to be malnipuative, very much so."
"Use to be?"
"... I met your mother... and besides no one gives me openings anymore and when they do your mother is there."

I would be more than happy to Seeker. Though I'm sure you'll be entertained by the result.

Daemon after all knew how talking to a talking sword could make people react for the first time. Even though he was very much up for the idea of doing so.
