Me too... biggrin and this is what I'm trying to learn...

I die. :XP:

I'm trying to teach at the same time, and if Proudly Jewish would like to come help out, I'd be soooooooooooooooooo happy! biggrin Static Imp's helping out too biggrin

I have a friend on ICQ v Moskva who's helping me some; I spend most of my time swiffling through the dictionary! (I couldn't think of a good verb for rummaging through a book, so I made one up razz ). If this person will give me permission, I'll probably post excerpts of the conversations (including me making a fool of myself in Russian and her telling me off, in English, for it rofl ) to help biggrin

It's over in Language Lessons, if anyone cares to come.

I need to learn the Russian keyboard layout... But for now I need to bang my head against the wall for leaving my dictionary and book, thus forcing me to write this entirely in English. Well, except for "v Moskva", but that's kind of simple... lol

I've seen that transliterator before. I don't really like the way they categorize y as ы. Someone who didn't know any better would transliterate the name Lydia as Лыдиа rather than Лидия (its true translit.).

ы doesn't even sound like y, the way I've heard it...

But it's supposed to be used by the people who do know better. sweatdrop
And actually, in all of the standard transliteration systems, ы becomes y.
At any rate, I see the transliteration system that they use (which is rather off) as being no different from ALT codes. We all know that þ is not 0254, just as ы is not y.

I like this transliterator because it's simple and allows me to type quickly in Russian.

I used ï for Russian ы when I transliterated Russian texts. o.o

Yeah, that's one of the things that I think works better than y. But it's not standard, and it's a bit of a pain to type.
I don't know. I don't like transliteration. xD

I use y for i-skratkoy as well as for the softening sound in front of vowels (which can be confusing, I guess, but the placement should tell the same way we know how to pronounce it in English, for the most part) and I use i' for "bl"

And yeah, I'm too lazy to even copy - paste. xp

Technically, "bl" is a hard i, so since I put harden signs as (consonant)', it makes sense to put them there for the "hard i"

razz

Yay for asking my mentor ninja

Also, I know this has probably been asked a BILLION times, but I can't seem to find the thread in the Lang.Ed. forum, so...
What do you think is the best learning whatever? I really need to hear, so I need to get audio something, but programs are expensive and it's nigh impossible to find non-learning programs with Russian audio razz
I found a book I could've gotten while I was at this college bookstore, but I decided to wait, just in case there was something better. It had decent explanations, and... *drumroll*
My roomie and I could fight back against the Frenchies when they start labelling the school! I'll put Spanish, roomie'll put German, and we'll do the Russian together twisted

So yeah. Rossetta Stone? Other program? Websites are weird... and contradictory... ninja

Great if you wanna hear/practice it. Just download for Russian, and get the download link in your e-mail. I got it for Spanish, Italian, Russian, Dutch, German, and Norwegian and Turkmen just for fun.

Basically just has a bunch of useful phrases and sample verbs, but it's pretty helpful for the most part.

I had it, but all I really got out of it was a bunch of spam crying the program is kind of weird... it's been a while since I used it, but I remember feeling like I hadn't gotten anything otu of it.

I didn't really get that feeling from it (nor any spam). I mean, there were times when I thought the Dutch and German pronunciation was at a wack, but for the most part I thought it was alright. Nothing too special, but... something. confused

Have you seen danish or another scandinavian languages
the "to be" verb is not irregular except Icelandic, Greenlandic(Inuitut), and Faroese
