As she sat and continued to sigh, Tanu heard a familiar voice scolding her. Rolling those green and red Kun Kumo eyes upwards to the sky and back down to the ground, Tanu tilted her head upwards to not really look at Shinichi directly. "Because I don't feel like going. I don't want to train with a bunch of weaklings..." she muttered the last bit even though she started off so snobbishly. Once she was finished with her little remark back at the man she only knew as a sensei that taught occasionally, Tanu looked up to see the only person she had been admiring on this forsaken island slumped over Shinichi's shoulders. With a sharp intake of breath, Tanu stood up wildly, knocking over the crate she was standing on. Her eyes were wide with astonishment as she came around to realize that the man was dead upon his shoulders! "What did you do!?" Tanu shouted madly, upset that her future chosen trainer had been slaughtered. Of course, no one else would've known that Tanu even met the fierce barbarian Dhan since no one ever spoke to the girl, not even Shin, who Tanu had not seen in weeks.

Shinichi sounded a deep growl within his throat when he saw the brat roll her strange eyes at him. For the last few days, he'd been trying to lead Shimagakure without resorting to fear, but that task may prove more difficult than he had thought. For one, fear ensured quick obedience, while respect took time that he wasn't sure he had. Nevertheless, if Ichi taught him anything, it was that building up trust and respect with his people would prove way more fruitful in the end. They would fight for him not out of a need to prove anything to him or even worse, because of fear of punishment, but rather because they wanted to. So, if he could get the unruly Tanu to want to attend school, he shouldn't have a problem with her getting out of hand and missing more classes. That, of course, was probably harder done than said.

Shinichi tried to remember everything he could about the girl when her outrage that he'd kill Dhan told him everything he needed to know. "So you know this madman..." Shinichi commented, pausing for a second to collect his thoughts. No, not only did she know of Dhan, the girl seemed to have developed a positive image of him. That was disgust in her voice, not just shock at seeing a dead body. "Dhan the Destroyed went on a rampage and massacred 5 villagers. He's no one you should be hanging around, not unless you want to end up like him." Shinichi pointed to the slumped body and continued, "I know you're smart enough to realize that if you don't go to class, you'll end up weaker than those you just called weaklings. I can tell you now that a few of the new recruits can probably kick your lazy a** to the moon with all the training they'd been through recently."

A glimmer suddenly appeared in Shinichi's forest green eyes. "Tell you what. Let's make a deal. You claim you're so strong, right? Let's see if you beat those recruits in a fight. I'm thinking of three in particular: Tokiha Orika, Karite, and Orochi Shisei. If you can beat any two of them in a fight, I'll let you skip classes for the rest of your miserable life. Better yet, I'll train you myself, teaching you whatever you want to learn. In the meantime, I better see you at school or there will be unpleasant consequences."

Izumi held tight to the sword she'd be delivering to the now dead Dhan, unaware still of his new state. She skipped along the road with Ai at her side. Momentarily, the sword seemed to be lighter, if only for a while. Perhaps her brighter mood had lightened the sword in her mind? If that was it, hopefully she'd keep her mood this way for the rest of the way to Dhan. "So, Ai, what do you think so far? About me and the rest of the village? Are you going to be happy living here?" Izumi smiled and giggled down to the tiny puff ball who was struggling to keep her feet from getting stuck in the snow she was walking in. Well, more like hopping. Izumi switched the sword from one position to another as she continued down the road, trying not to bump into anyone or hit anyone with the sword she was holding tightly against her. Dhan would kill her if she ever did anything bad to his sword and he found out!

The young Meho child sighed as she could physically feel the weight of the evil sword slowly return to a massive ammount as she slowed her pace to accomadate it. It was kind of hurting her shoulders to have her cling to the blade as she was, so she sat down for a quick rest. Sighing, she turned and patted her side for the wolf to come join her, and not to her surprise, the wolf stayed where she was. Izumi would have to still get closer to the wolf before she'd willingly come closer to her and sit beside her or even rest her head against her. A gentle smile warmed the girl's face as she thought of what would come to be sooner or later. Leaning her back against the building she'd sat beside, the Meho girl placed her head back against it's cold surface. "It's cold here isn't it Ai..." she said slightly out of breath. "Hopefully it'll get warmer soon so I don't have to freeze every day." Izumi giggled and looked at the sword her arms still wrapped themselves around. She'd have to deliver this soon before Dhan becomes too impatient with her.

Tanu's nose scrunched up when Shinichi pointed to the slump body over his shoulder and suggesting that she would end up like him. As Shinichi continued on, Tanu went back to her bored look rolling her eyes and trying to play it off cool. She didn't care if a murderer was killed! Her interests perked up a bit more when the man began to list of names and a challenge. Orika, Karite and Shisei... Tanu didn't know these ones... Wait, Shisei, wasn't that the snake boy she beat up during her last exercise at the academy? That ugly mutant!? "I've already got one down on your list," Tanu sneered up at the man. "I've beaten Shisei the very last class I attended," the Kun Kumo said very highly. "I'll get number two on your list tomorrow," Tanu said as she made an aggravating sniffle in the back of her throat in order to hack up a loogie and spit out a good portion of spit to the side, not at Shinichi. She got up and walked away, not realizing just how inappropriate she had just acted towards the highest ranking shinobi in the village. Of course, Tanu didn't know that this man was the highest ranking shinobi now that Ichi was gone. But as she walked away she felt the pit of her stomach churn as she realized how big of a mouth she had when talking with a man that just slaughtered that crazy man from the shoreline. He had to have been strong taking him out and still standing tall. An exiciting chill ran up her spine as she thought of this man being her teacher. This urge Tanu to actually train tonight in order to be on top of her game tomorrow. She would train all she could, so when she walked through those academy doors, she would be able to take Karite or Orika down. Tanu thought she remembered who Karite was and she was sure she had deemed him a weakling... Orika was a new name though...

Shinichi growled and was about to strike Tanu for rudely spitting in front of him, but thought better of it. He'd deal with her tomorrow... The brat would get her a** smacked by either Karite or Orika. Plus, he knew that the match between Tanu and Shisei was inevitable since the two personalities clashed like fire and water. The Kage stretched and took one last look at the bloodied snow, like someone had spilled paint all over purity, making the health of their village unclean. The people needed something to lift their spirits up and he had just the idea. Shinichi wrapped his cloak around himself and trudged off to his office to do some planning.

[Exit to Winter 5]

Mood Music

The Kage stood before a quietly gathering early morning crowd, their still salt-glazed eyes a complete contrast to his bright green orbs. The man was excited and he could feel the energy pumping through his veins that would soon be rushing through every kid's blood. Simply put, it was time for a celebration. Shinichi had donned himself in a fresh, clean lime green kimono interspersed with leaping koi. The garment hung looser than usual around his broad shoulders so that the fabric rippled from his front side like undulating waves in the crisp, yet soft, morning breeze. For goodness sakes, the Kage had even shaven that morning, trimming away the stubble that crowded around his goatee so that he looked like a new person after a restful night. The man's eyes gazed hungrily at a ramen stand before a brightly dressed woman caught his eye. She nodded to him and started to sing the song he requested while her family played the accompaniment. As the song progressed, Shinichi felt the power of its words, speaking of all of Shimagakure's past pains and misery, all its trials via deception, betrayal, and warfare. He bowed his head when she hit a particularly high note, merely allowing the strength of the music to wash over him.

A casual observer might note the dramatic changes in Shinichi and wonder why the village grouch was in such high-spirits. Well, there reall was no solid reason, other than that he'd come to the point where the young man had finally grown tired of suffering. The death of Dhan made him realize what power he had in Shimagakure, the power to either create more pain or to do some good. Shinichi raised a hand to silence the woman for a moment as he gathered chakra to his chest. A great pressure built until the man released the force in the form of a great fireball directly overhead, a great spectacle that anyone on the island would be able to see. Shinichi brushes away a stray lock of crimson hair and started encouraging people to join the woman in singing. They were perplexed at first, some still fearful of their Kage, but eventually from them echoed an uplifting melody. He waited until everybody had gathered, then cleared his throat and started speaking.

"Um, hello..." Shinichi said, internally wincing at the sound of his own voice. He had never been good at public speaking and now was no exception, no matter how well he felt. But a deep breath and a willingness to let his anxiety go forced him to go on, "I've decided to organize a festival to celebrate our victory in the Orochi war!" He ceased talking for the uncertain cheers that erupted. The people were hesitant to celebrate... not good. "We have mourned long enough for our fallen compatriots, hated our enemies until they infect our dreams. Isn't it time to let all that go and just enjoy the fact that we're standing and thriving today? Today our festival will celebrate the health and well being of the people. We will honor our strength through hard work and determination, rather than crude experiments, pillars that have always made the shinobi strong!" Shinichi chuckled and cracked a small smile. Of course he still missed Ichi, but what good did it do morale to always be mourning him over? They needed to look towards the future. "Today the villagers and I have set up a series of sporting events for our children meant to test your fitness against others. These hopefully nonlethal challenges are not meant to put anyone down, for they only display one aspect of being a ninja. Therefore, anyone caught excessively bragging will deal with me AND Maya. Head on to the lagoon for the first event. I will post events on this tree as the day progresses. Good luck to everyone!" He massaged his throat and waved for everyone to get on with the day. He had a lot of things planned and light was a-wasting.

It was good to live right at the village center. This meant that despite the extensively long time it had taken for Kane to exit his place of abode, for pretty legitimate reasons, he hadn't missed a thing. Actually, Kane wasn't sure if that was good or bad.

Kane had just received his dao, and he was very excited. Exiting his house with his mother, they stood amongst the crowd for a while, letting the music wash over him. So far, he was totally getting into the whole festival thing, even if he thought Shinichi looked a little funny up there. Kane was sure that it was just him, either. He'd always been used to Shinichi being a total military man; a total downer of a military man at that, and him in a
LIME GREEN was quite shocking. Not to mention that one could feel the excitement radiating from him in droves. It was just really weird. But also good. In a weird way. Shinichi looked renewed and less haunted than he had been the past few days... Kane could say that, yes he could.

After the song was over and Shinichi started to talk, the strangeness factor upped even more. Kane couldn't believe what he was hearing. Celebrate what? Did Shinichi believe in what he was saying? It sounded like it. It made sense. In a perverse way. Kane didn't feel comfortable AT ALL forgetting about Ichi so close to his loss, which seemed to be what Shinichi was advocating!

Frowning, he bade his mother goodbye and headed to the Lagoon. He didn't have high hopes for himself regarding this, but it was like Shinichi said. This is only one aspect of being a ninja, and Kane was sure that with effort, he'd find his own niche too.

As the child went on ahead leaving some space from the rest of the crowd he was about to start his training again. A major announcement would interrupt this though. Ero-sensei seemed to have something planned for today. A sporting event? Great. Seems like this entire village was seriously out to get him. Not that Shisei didn’t like sports. He enjoyed certain ones. It’s just that there were too many disruptions today. He needed to concentrate on his next move and repair what the book carrier was trying to tear down. This would not happen in the village though. There was just too much noise over this festival. Shisei did make note of a few of the villagers. It seemed the band of children were about. Were they competing in this too? There was also a blonde teen. The mute and cynical boy did not give them much attention though. He had his own agenda to do. For now though he’d comply and go to the lagoon.

Panting as she ran up to Shisei, Orika finally let go of Xyn's hand. Boy, that had been a good run! It took a few minutes for her to understand the gist of what Shinichi was saying, since she was so distracted by his clean appearance. All she ever saw him in was an ANBU uniform, his ragged yukata, or like the other day, all bloody up and really scary. She wasn't sure she liked the sudden change. It seemed the man was trying too hard to fill Ichi's shoes. But, whatever. Orika's mind immediately switched to the prospect of a sports festival and she did a tiny hop in place. She loved sports, regardless of how good at them she really was! "Oh, boy. This'll be a lot of fun!" The girl saw the festival as more of a chance to just chill, relax, and get out of Maya's control rather than as a way to get the villagers' minds off the sorrows of the past, as that lady was belching. She wrinkled her noise at that awful sound and hurriedly scurried away from the music.

Xyn would have simply snatched his hand from the girl, but that grip... he was afraid he'd break his wrist if he struggled any more than he already was. Once he was finally free, he unwillingly collapsed to his knees; not from exhaustion, but simply from his muscles locking to keep from moving.

"..." Another festival... didn't the last festival result in a giant monster attacking the coastline? This place seemed to have a love of invoking ill omens. Although, that made it the perfect place for him. What better creature to carry an ill omen than a raven... maybe in some we he was responsible for that scaled creature, as if the same force that controlled his actions also controlled that samehada. It was, of course, impossible for a single person's will to have controlled his character and the character of some monster, because then he would have to believe others were under the same omniscience force, like an amalgam of beings divining every step of their lives. The whole thing was ridiculous, but it offered Xyn some humor as he tried to ignore this festival.

"... I'll pass." Finally getting up and brushing the dirt and snow from his cloak and pants, Xyn looked back toward the direction for the grounds, wondering if Maya was going to follow them... wait, would she want to participate in all this? Xyn had the sudden urge to duck into the crowd...

The weather was considerably nice today. After all, it was winter time and it was not very common for this kind of weather to be seen. The snow was gone, and the sun was rising into the bright sky. "Oh? Where's everyone headed?" Serena glanced around and noticed others walking towards the direction of the lagoon. Maybe something happened..maybe there was some kind of event today! She noticed people her age going over, too. This event brought the Raiken away from her main puprose of leaving the library and going to the village, but she figured that she might see both Shinichi and Sorri over at the lagoon, since that was where everyone seemed to be heading. Without seeing anyone familiar, Serena swiftly joined the crowd, blending in with everyone else.

Karite looked around at all the commotion and now was completely lost. He had no clue what was going on till he saw Ero-sensei begin speaking looking pretty sharp. Something about a festival of sports. Sports meant competition and competition was what he was all about. After hearing that the crowd seemed to grow restless and scatter amongst the village. There So many people it was hard to find anyone else. He would have to meet up with Orika and Shisei at the lagoon. "Come on Kore lets go before we get stepped on."

((... ok, I'm bored))

Xyn always got turned around in crowds. It was these large masses of people that made him come to despise these festivals. Not to mention, most of the activities seemed more mandatory than recreational. This... sports festival... what kind of celebration was that? He could only hope that these events held some sort of reward... but that would require him actually participating. He decided in the back of his mind that he would avoid this festival at all costs... however...

As the crowd moved toward the lagoon, Xyn was unable to fight it. Everyone was moving the the opposite direction he was going, causing him to move back several steps before he could move forward. He didn't actually realize his loss of progress until he could actually hear the sound of water running...

"well i hope you get what you need to get done, done." Ginsei just left the professor there after saying his peace. ginsei knew if he stayed there any longer his buzz would be lost completely as flashes and memory would start to haunt him, as they pulled him out of reality into a torturous hell. Ginsei started to run in a little with a little more fear in his eyes but that is all ginsei ever really did he always ran. he ran from murders, his owner, form his very own past, and now reality itself. as ginsei ran threw this unfamiliur town. panic and fear could be fealt down to his bones at this point or was it just the cold night air of winter on his skin as the alcohol effects left his system. as Ginsei left the shores and made it around the town square several time not really knowing wear to go or who would help him, he started to read the signs on the buildings. only to reallize he did not know how to read most of this stuff on his ninth or tenth lap around the square. exhausted and mostly sobber ginsei blacked out, falling into an unstable snowbank which avalanched. gensei was covered in enough snow to keep him safe from the cold and out of sight of people but not enough to cause harm like crushing him or deprivation. Ginsei had many nightmares through out the morning. most of them consisted of his past or some cheap knock off of him fixing it and things going even more horribly wrong. the images that he ran from just caught up to him in the worst possible place, time, and way.
((sorry every one about he time and reality bending post, i kinda got left behind. entrence to the village and exit from the shoreline.))

Ginsei awoke in the snow bank he blacked out in during the darkened hours of the morning screaming at the top of his lungs. Panicing Ginsei beating out of the snow like a cat out of a closed flushing toilet. Ginsei saw mental flashes, memories, and holusinations of the events of his past as he franticly got to his feet looking like a snow beast and sounding like one with all the screaming he was doing. Ginsei ran into the first build he saw which was a small hut next to the snow bank he exploded out of seconds earlier.
