Finding that most of the creams weren't really fitting to her skin tone, Tanu began getting frustrated. Not everyone was pale skinned and perfect like a few of the students in this classroom. Grabbing the wash cloth, Tanu scrubbed at her face with it and then wiped off the patches of cream on her arm. Tanu felt her arms were tanner than her face anyways, so the cream wouldn't really match to begin with. Wanting to give up on this stupid task, Tanu heaved a frustrated grunt and went back to trying to compare cream shades. The cream had a distinct smell to it just like paint did. Of course, the cream didn't smell like paint, but it was an altogether new scent for Tanu. The Kun Kumo thought of her mother when this scent tickled her nostrils. Of course, Tanu didn't remember what her mother smelt like since she usually avoided her at all costs, but she knew that her mother wore make-up. Was this what her mother smelt like when someone leaned in close to her to place a kiss on her cheek? Tanu shook her little green strands of hair and tried to dismiss these thoughts. Her mother was dead now, so there really wasn't any need to reflect back on it. It was a thing she would never be able to experience... Her father would know what her mother once smelt like though. Perhaps Tanu would ask him one day. Putting all the dabs of cream on her arm once again, Tanu tried to pick out the one that best fit.

As Tanu put just a dab of the last cream on her arm, she had found her match. Taking the wash cloth and washing it all off once again, Tanu held the cream out to the little sponge. Why did they need to use a sponge? Couldn't they just squirt it out on their hands and message it in? The little Kun Kumo had all these thoughts in her mind, but she didn't want to give anyone the idea that she was actually interested in doing this task... Squirting out more than enough cream onto the sponge, Tanu let it carelessly drip onto her desk. Not bothering to clean it up, the ruffian immediately put the sponge to her face and began smearing the cool cream on her skin. The first layer of cream was thick enough to be three layers. Tanu didn't know any better though, she had never done anything like this before. She continued to smear the cream across her cheeks, down the bridge of her nose and under her eyes. She forgot her eye sockets and the skin just under her nose and above her lip. The lines where she smeared her cream were more than prominent. The girl was no artist and did not understand the quantity in which she had put on the skin toned cream. Content with what she had done to her face, Tanu opened up the powders in which she was told to put on Orika's eyes. Cutting her red and green eyes over at the farm girl, Tanu looked at her like she were diseased. "Forget it... Do it yourself," Tanu said to the girl, knowing that she would probably have the same feelings or at least hope she did. Tanu didn't want her to make a fuss that she wasn't participating or doing what she was told.

Orika had little time to cherish her victory before Kumiko started scolding the two. The girl thought the nurse would freak from seeing a conflict erupt in the classroom, but she never expected the woman whom all men in the village drooled over to offer her own advice on fighting. In fact, Orika didn't even know there was a lady-like way to attack one another. At her old school, the girls all seemed to get along fine with one another. Even when they disagreed, their arguments always drifted into friendly chit chattering within seconds. Orika wondered whether Kumiko was right about girls attacking each other with innuendos or if she was just slow in picking up the subtext. Maybe she should give this new technique a try! "Yep. Boys know little more than to beat each other senseless," Orika said in an innocent tone. She turned away from the other hot-tempered girl and smirked at Kumiko. The red and green-eyed ninja did say she wanted to be in the guys' class, didn't she? Before turning her attention back into the class, Orika couldn't help but glance back at the loud mouthed girl to see her expression. Then again, the braggart did look like she knew how to knock someone out. Though Orika was pretty sure she could take her in a fight, it might be best to beef up her own skills a little first.

The make up case stared back at her menacingly while Tenko and Kumiko explained how to apply the products. Orika wiped down her sweaty face and slipped damp earthy locks behind her ears. Mai didn't wear much make up so she'd grown up without really seeing the beauty in peppering herself up with icky smelling powders. Dipping a finger into a medium cream, the tanned girl examined the juxtaposition and decided to try a darker shade. She never wore a hat so the sun should have beaten down evenly on her whole body. Orika tested a few more creams before finding the one that practically disappeared on her finger. A smudge was then applied on the girl's forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, and around her lips. She spread the pudding-like mixture in circles, trying to coat her face evenly. The cream felt cool against her skin, but the smell reminded Orika of falling in the mud.

This wasn't too hard. Being a proper lady was too easy! Orika assumed that the damp foundation needed some time to dry (she had forgotten to wipe her face with a dry towel) before they could put on the real cosmetics. She took a look around the classroom, surprised to see two new girls, bringing their total number to six. The shorter girl was clad entirely in white and even her hair was just a shade darker than snow. The only trait that distinguished the tiny girl from a pile of marshmallows seemed to be her sandy skin and those sea-grey eyes. Orika heard somebody mention that the other girl was the Kage's niece, but she thought that Sugar Coat's eyes were a perfect copy of Ichi-sama's. Although... Naoki's long, black hair and inherited timidity matched all the other Uchihas. Orika eyed this girl cautiously, though without any distaste. Like the others of her bloodline, Naoki was probably really strong and modest too. Her slight stuttering supported Orika's theory.

When Kumiko listed off the names of everyone in the class, Orika quickly put names to faces. Considering that she knew the names of all the girls except for two, it wasn't too difficult. That and the fact that Kumiko liked to make fun of people made it easy to figure out who everyone was... including Miss Hot Air. "That's just mean, Kumiko-san!" the tall girl complained, "What if she pokes out my eye?" Oh, crap. She may have given Tanu ideas! Orika wrinkled her nose, trying not to imagine what she would look like after Tanu was done with her. An itch prompted the girl to scratch around her nose, which messed up the foundation and got caramel cream all over her hand. "Darn it!" she muttered, reaching for the foundation case. It was tougher this time to smooth out the goo since the mixture she put in before had turned somewhat flaky, especially near the edge. She couldn't create a single texture without completely covering up what she'd put on before. With an exasperated sigh, Orika wiped off all the foundation and started over.

Huh, they were supposed to use sponges? Orika flushed slightly when she saw the other girls using the tiny thing to apply the foundation. Sure, she didn't understand a thing Kumiko said in her last speech besides the pair ups, but the farm girl was absolutely sure she didn't hear anything about a sponge. Was it common knowledge? Hesitantly, Orika picked up the triangular foam and dipped it into the opaque container. She dabbed the cream on her right cheek, creating a thin layer that encompassed that half of her face. So far, so good. Orika kept brushing away at the one spot until a horrible smelling dust arose, causing the girl to sneeze. Yuck! The copper brown haired girl looked down at the golden foundation at the top of the sponge and frowned. To call the nasty thing cream was crazy since the foundation was more of a dry powder than anything! It turned out that the extra moisture on her face before had allowed the foundation to stick to her face.

Orika roughly stuck the stupid sponge in the case and glanced at Tanu who had risen from her seat. She hated to agree with the girl, but this was stupid! Any mission she went on that needed cosmetics to blend in might as well fail, unless people were so distracted in laughing at her that she could get a kunai in her target's chest. She raised an eyebrow when Tanu returned to her chair, just about to leave herself. But, what if she could learn to do this right? That would accomplish two goals in Orika's mind: to best Tanu and to become a better ninja in the future. Plus, what if make up really did make her more pretty? She'd never tried it before, so what was the harm in doing this just once? When Tanu refused to be her partner, Orika sneered back, noticing the mess on the younger girl's face, "Cause you can't even do yours right?". If only there was a mirror somewhere. That was it! Orika rushed out of the classroom, wiping off her latest mistake with a towel. She gathered up some water from the academy pond onto a broad, dying leaf, cursing when the cold water stung her bare feet. Carefully carrying the makeshift mirror back inside, she dumped the water onto a desk, forming a reflective puddle. A few drops scattered in various places on the floor. It never occurred to the girl to just ask for a mirror since she was so used to figuring out everything on her own. "There! Try not to freak out when you look at yourself," Orika taunted.

Once the spot was removed, Akiko placed the towel back down in its previous spot and once again started to eye the different skin tones. “Well that ones ruled out…” She said as she glanced over the color she just used, making a mental note of the fact. As the girl continued her thinking her brow began to scrunch and she sighed at all of the choices. “P-perhaps this one?” The voice was barely heard not only because the girl was quite but because Akiko found herself lost in her thinking. Akiko looked at the girl and smiled she was little puzzled as to where she came from, she hadn’t noticed her come in and she hadn’t seen her before. “I’ll try it.” She responded graciously excepting the help, the white haired girl was having trouble choosing anyway.

Taking the base she lightly rubbed the cream on a small spot on her tester hand, sadly the color still wasn’t right. “Mmm… still not it, but it’s much closer then the last one I used, thanks.” Akiko said to the girl as she grabbed the cloth.

Once the base was removed from the spot on her hand, the young girl began studying the skin colors once again, making a mental note that she was ruling out the color she just used, so far it was two down and hopefully she would find the correct color soon... that or settle. Luckily the thought of settling didn’t get the strong willed girl upset she refused to give up, and she would find her color even if she had to mix it herself! “Not that I want to mix it myself.” She reminded after thinking that she would have to create the color more then once and there was no way she would be able to get the exact color every time, but with those thoughts aside; what was also lucky for the easy going Ibazi was the fact that the helpful girl picked a color that was closer to her skin tone, so Akiko decided to pick around its color range but she decided she would go for a darker one. She stared at her options once more before deciding on a darkish tan color. The persistent girl once again repeated the process of smoothing the color on a small portion of her hand, and like the last two times the color was still off and she found herself reaching for the damp cloth.

{Sorry Shuga if I get Hanabira's eye color wrong..you never mentioned the color in your profile..so from the picture I'm guessing it's a golden brown..}

"Hm, yeah, you're right. The color matches my skin tone pretty well!" Serena told Hanabira as she rubbed the foundation onto her face. After that was done, she put the sponge down and looked in the mirror, checking whether or not it was smooth, and then looked at Hanabira's. "I think you did a good job..its really smooth and I don't see any blotches anywhere!" She turned back to the mirror and checked her own foundation again, then looked at Hanabira as she commented. "Brown with gold, huh..that sounds like a good combination! I like those colors, and you know, I never really noticed that there was a little bit of brown in my eyes..I always thought it was a dull, unexciting gray.." She told her partner while touching the corners of her eyes. "And for you.." The Raiken looked into brownish color of Hanabira's eyes and thought for a moment.

"At first, I would say brown and gold like you, but it seems a little too plain..next I would have said a light pink and a darker shade because of your reddish hair color, but the teacher said to make it match your eyes..Oh! How about this? I put a light brown first, then I'll mix a shiny gold with a dark brown to make a shiny bronze color! It sounds kind of like the first choice, but I think this one would look better on you. It'll bring out both the brown and gold in your eyes and the brown in your hair~" She began drawing it out as she explained how she was going to do it, then looked at Hanabira again. "What do you think? I've never tried make-up before, so if you have a better solution, I'm open to your ideas!"

Tenko was so happy, watching all the girls mingle with one another. In a class very similiar to this one, Tenko and Kumiko had become friends. It was so nostalgic and it yanked the woman's blond head up into the clouds. Looking over to Kumiko, she hoped that she was reminiscing about the same thing, but all that was on her face was a sly grin as she watched Orika and Tanu... Tenko sighed lightly as she turned her eyes to see if she could aid any of the girls. "Oh, darling are you having a hard time?" Tenko asked as she noticed Akiko having troubles finding her color. "If you can't find an exact match, its alright to use one that's a little lighter," Tenko explained, "Always go a little lighter and not darker though." When Tenko was done explaining to Akiko and Naoki about fixing some problems they might have, Orika went running out of the classroom. "Orika, where are you going?" Tenko called out after her, but didn't pursue...

As Orika's eyes scanned past Kumiko after that little onslaught of words, the nurse couldn't help but smile. "You catch on quick," the woman said with a smile as sly as a fox's spreading across her face. Taking her attention away from the two she was playing with for amusement, Kumiko walked across the room, swaying her hips until she heard Serena's voice. "Baby girl, you're a natural," Kumiko said to Serena as she explained and listed off her line of thinking. "Let's see you try those colors on her. I want to know if your hand can match your words to bring out that beautiful mixture," Kumiko said, hovering over Serena's shoulder to see if she would be able to apply the powders to Hanabira's eyelids. "Working with powder is a hard thing to do. Since there's foundation on her face, whatever layer you put on first won't come off easily, so pick your first color wisely," Kumiko said to the girl as she waited for her to start.

[+3 onto Serena's next roll.]

Tenko had made her way to the front of the room to see if she had some more shades of darker make-up that might be more fitting for Akiko when Orika re-entered. Before Tenko could ask where the girl went, she had poured a good sized puddle of water on Tanu's desk. "Orika!" the nurse gasped, not shouted, as she grabbed one of the wash cloths and immediately began soaking up the water. Her hands worked quickly to clean up the water and make sure the water didn't get wet. "Orika, what were you doing?" Tenko asked her as the final bit of water was soaked up. "Oh, Tanu! You've got splotches," the blond woman said as she began smoothing out the lines and heavy spots that Tanu had applied to her make-up. "Moderately apply the cream in small dabs," Tenko explained to the girl as she fussed over her face and fixed it up.

Tanu couldn't help, but feel like Orika and Shisei had spoken about her... If this girl was a friend of that Bakemono, then that meant they would share the same insults. The Kun Kumo continued to let that insult get to her. She was not a boy and she would show them just how pretty and girly she could be while staying tough! "I'll do more than make you lose an eye," Tanu mumbled to herself under her breath. It would be clear that she was saying something, but the words wouldn't be audible enough to make them out. "I can do mine better than you can do yours!" Tanu shouted back at Orika, who seemed to be challgening her. If Tanu could slay a monster, disgrace a Raiken and even wrestle down her older cousin who was a genin, putting on make-up better than a farm girl was no problem! Turning her back to Orika, Tanu hunched over the case of powders and tried to pick out colors. Kumiko said pick two colors that would accent her eyes... Well her eyes were red and green, so should she just put those colors on her eyelids? But what did she mean by accent? Tanu was at a complete lost to Kumiko's instructions. The only definition that Tanu knew of the word accent was a foreign sound to a language, like the one the sailors had when they spoke or the one that Dhan and Tomoko had when speaking. Tomoko had the heavier accent out of those two, but she could definitely pick out that the two were raised on the same island... As she thought about the strange pair of siblings, Tanu's itching hatred for this class came back. "This is stupid," she said to herself yet again...

While Tanu was sitting and brooding with her back turned to everyone, she wasn't ready when Orika came around and poured water on her desk. Tanu shot straight up from her chair, surprised by the action. "What the-!?" she shouted, thinking that Orika was just trying to get her wet and mess up her make up. There would be no way that Tanu would think that Orika was trying to help her, especially after all the comments passed between them so far through the day. Tanu had labeled Orika as an enemy, worthless being and ignorant fool. "What do you mean not freak out?" Tanu said, as her fist balled up ready to punch Orika in the face. The only thing that stopped her was Tenko's immediate presence to the situation. Already the nurse was soaking up the water and questioning Orika. "Isn't it clear! She was just trying to screw me up," Tanu shouted, not understanding why Tenko was just asking quesitons when she should be disciplining or scolding the stupid farm girl. Once Tenko was finished cleaning up the water, she was all over Tanu trying to fix up her make-up and give her pointers. At first the Kun Kumo tried battering away Tenko's hands, but then just caved in and let the woman fix her mix ups. The whole time, Tanu was glaring down at the floor. She didn't want to look Tenko in the eyes or meet anyone else's by mistake. She felt like such a child while Tenko wiped off the excess cream and fixed the lines and spots that Tanu had missed.

"But, but, I was only trying to he-" Orika choked out, a little moisture welling up at the edges of her eyes. There wasn't enough liquid to soften the red clay iris, but any passing stranger could tell that the earthy girl had just been rained upon. When Orika gritted her teeth and attacked the foundation cream again, she missed Tanu's mutterings, too caught up in keeping her pride intact. What she did made perfect sense to her and the mirror even worked... in its own special way. "It was nothing, Tenko-san," the farm girl mumbled, averting her gaze from the woman's soft stare. In fact, what didn't add up was how they were applying a beauty product without getting the chance to see the result. Only their senseis' opinion kept the girls from looking like hideous monsters and Orika wasn't sure she could completely trust Kumiko. Then again, what did she know about make-up? Orika bit down on a rude outburst and quickly applied two shades darker than medium foundation to her face, using tiny strokes like Tenko suggested. She made sure to use everything she'd learn so far, like dampening the sponge beforehand and swirling the cream to create an even blend. When she was sure the sponge's usefulness had been exceeded, the boisterous girl grinned cheekily and ran light fingers over her face to smooth out any rocky spots. Her disappointment just moments ago was all but forgotten.

Tanu squawked out another challenge, which Orika accepted when she immediately replied, "Nuh uh! Senseis, you'll judge us, won't you?" The arrogant windbag already proved that she knew just as much as Orika in the field of cosmetics. At least she didn't pour a whole kilogram of foundation on her face! But, wait, weren't they supposed to be putting eye stuff on the other person? Orika bit down on her lip, trying to figure a way out of this tough conundrum. Tanu and she both wanted to be the best (although Orika was pretty sure Serena had the bar raised way above their heads), but they had to rely on each other to improve themselves. Woah, was this why Tenko freaked when she tried to bring a mirror in here, 'cause they were supposed to team up? Maybe they weren't supposed to fight against each other because then nobody would win. A tiny shred peeled away from the mask which had previously blinded her from feminine society.

"Ah, thank you sensei! I'll do my best~" Serena smiled happily seeing that her combination was a pretty nice choice for Hanabira. She couldn't help but panic a little about the first color, since Kumiko had said that it wouldn't come off well. The Raiken also couldn't help but look towards Orika and the other girl, whom she had never met before. They seemed to be off at a rough start and she couldn't stop herself from eavedropping--they were talking pretty loud. She was pretty zoned out before snapping back into what she was doing, realizing that Kumiko was still waiting on her to try out her combination. She took out the eyeshadow plates from the small bag and lined them up, taking out the browns and the golds, and some yellows, in case and put the rest in a pile. "I should be able to use a few of these colors to get the colors I want." She said to herself as she touched each color and compared them to Hanabira's eyes.

Serena examined all the colors carefully before taking out two kinds of browns. One was really light color that was just a little tanner than Hanabira's skin color, and the other was a little bit darker shade of coffee brown. She pointed at each one and began to explain an idea to herself. "Now, I could start off with this light color so it wouldn't turn out so bad if I messed up, and get different, darker browns to work towards the shiny bronze color I'm thinking of, or I could start with this this brown, first only slightly touching the color for the lightest shade possible, then using the same shade to apply darker layers towards the tips and around the eyes." The young Raiken thought of those two options carefully, so as not to make Hanabira look bad.

"I think the second option would be better, actually" She said, "because I don't have to mess around with finding colors on the same tone--and I think it matches your eyes better, too!" Serena took the color she wanted and moved it to her right, while moving the other shade to the pile. Then she took the the golden color and began explaining her second idea. "After I get the brown layers on, then I can take this gold and rub it into the darker parts and let it trail off the tips of the eyes. I think that would look really pretty. Plus it would bring out the bronze color I was aiming for. Do you think you could take your glasses off for me, Hana-san?" She said as she lightly striked her finger against the coffee brown eyeshadow.

Orika picked out a dark, tree bark brown and a red powder. Alright, now what? Kumiko said to choose out a natural color and a bold color, but at the same time they were supposed to match her eyes. The girl didn't see how her eye colors were supposed to be bold. How was a color thick and prominent at the same time? Were there some colors that were more important than others? All this thinking about stuff she was clueless about made Orika's head hurt so she clasped her palms to her temples and shut her eyes tight. One orb peeked open to notice that Tanu's blank stare, followed by more anger. "This fighting isn't getting anywhere," Orika declared, trying to catch Tanu's eyes, "Everyone in the class is already ahead so why don't we just work together to get this over with? You mix colors that make me look good and I'll do the same for you. Then we can both be prettier than all the prissies here." The teachers' advice didn't make any sense to her and neither did Serena's ramblings. That girl must do this everyday or something! Orika looked uncertainly at the powders she picked out and set them on the desk with a small sigh. She hoped her partner didn't mess up or she'd have to start all over again.
