Cassidy waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. You're not craving it, right? And in another month's time, I probably won't look so great myself, either. But I do feel a bit better." She grinned weakly in thanks.

She set down the soup spoon, picked up half the ham sandwich, and stared at it blankly. "I wonder if they even bothered to come up with a cure to this thing. I'm not sure why they would. And the more I think about it, the more likely it seems that they'd know about anything secretive we tried. I hate this. I can't think of anything."

"No, thank God - I haven't had an inclination such as that" Ambrose smiled, glad that she didn't react badly to it. Yet - that small voice in the back of his mind jabbed at him.

"And I'm glad that you got it off your chest... I was hoping that that might help."
He moved his food around a bit with his fork before his stomach protested that he shouldn't mess with it as he was still hungry. "I wish I could think of something too... and you're right, they're probably listening to every bloody thing we say" He sighed. "It's downright depressing... I feel so damned helpless"
"At least they were straightforward with answers last time" Ambrose murmured... "Though admittedly after getting some painfully honest answers I didn't even have the heart to ask the rest... like what specifically I'm becoming... or the rest of us. They'd probably tell us if we asked, but I don't know if I want to hear the answers, as cowardly as that might sound"

"I know exactly what you mean. I keep looking over at the lab and debating whether it would be worth it to just march over there and demand either answers, a cure, or contact with the mainland. Not that I'd be terribly optimistic about getting anything," Cass huffed. "And I'd probably come back growing things, anyway. What's wrong with these people?"

She peered cautiously at the back of her hand. Nope, still a normal level of hair, and an above-average number of freckles. As was usual. She took a bite of sandwich.

"Well..." Ambrose started, after finishing up the majority of what was left on his plate while listening to her. "I did try that with Aubrey. Any of the requests to leave, contact or a cure were all shot down. I doubt that anyone else would be more helpful, though you have my blessings and well-wishing if you wanted to try. And of course threats of cancer if I left midway through the process..."

He stabbed at the last piece of meat. "They're disturbed." He said darkly. "Seriously so. To even conceive of doing this to another human being, even an enemy, is beyond me." He chewed viciously on it and swallowed. "I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions about the process itself, if you have the nerve to ask. At least I know I'm becoming some sort of canine. Which, at least as far as I've thought of, isn't horrible unless it's one of those disturbing smashed-face housedogs... but given my teeth and appetite I'm thinking along the lines of something of the wild persuasion like a wolf.... You don't have any clues yet, for all we know it could be something like a rat.." He realized his faux paus. "But I'm sure that's not the case!" He tried to cover.

"Anyway... I'm probably going to go back to my duplex and try to think things over.... maybe see if I can't find out if anyone else has figured anything else out or if there is anyone else around who hasn't been properly warned."

Cassidy shuddered. "Oh god, I hope not." Rats were far from being the most disturbing things she could think of, but they were far from being her favourite animals, either.

"But I'll see you around, Ambrose. Take care of yourself. I think we're going to need to, all of us." She grimaced and reached for her mug of tea. "If I were the praying sort, I'd be busy doing that, too, but I'm not."

"Well, Take care, Cassidy. And if you think of anything or ever want to talk... or if anything... well... happens... feel free to come find me to talk." He smiled, standing up and bussing his tray out of habit more than courtesy to the staff.

"And thank you, the conversation did help, I think" He waved, and wandered off to the village main area.

That afternoon, a large truck drives into the center of town and parks alongside the Town Hall.

A tall, white-haired man speaks with Delia, the cafeteria lady for a few minutes before using a dolly to move several large crates into one of the large (previously empty) rooms attached to the Town Hall, converting it into an entertainment facility.
After he unloads and sets up the items, he returns to the laboratory facilities.

Emerwyn led Colche carefully out of the duplex into the open air. It was late afternoon; the sky was spotted with clouds. One drifted over the sun, and there was an instant of cold. Emerwyn shivered.

Colche was such a fascinating person. The wonder with with she looked at everything was something only seen in an infant. She also looked afraid, however. All the things that amazed her also seemed to frighten her, as if she learned not to trust anything aside from what she had already learned to know.

Emerwyn saw a huge building in the middle of the village. She figured it must house the cafeteria. Thankful that it was so easy to find, she led Colche into the building. She was so hungry, and felt she might soon collapse.

Now she was more awake this trip to the cafeteria opensd colche's eyes no end, she was facinated, and the deep black cloud that flutterd over the sun gave ehr some sort of solace. the light still frightend her, not as much, but it still did every so often. The huge building that loomed before them made ehr smile, she recognised it and let that little grin touch her plush lips. She looks to emerwynn and nods "nice, food" she nods an affirmative, still not padding on ahead, she followed like a dog being led, or a cow to the slaughter perhaps, she was dependant upon whom ever led her at the moment and at the moment it was emerwynn,s he just hoped someone would take her back to her sleeping place, or she'd never get there again.

Ian had just put some meat on his plate and was browsing the rest of the cafeteria food when he heard someone enter the cafeteria. Glancing over his shoulder he saw it was two women, neither of them he knew. Great, he thought. More women. Where are all the males on this forsaken island? Turning back to the food he shook his head at the salad and went on to grab an apple and a water bottle. Moving toa table pointedly ignoring the women, he unsheathed the belt knife he was wearing now, and speared some meat to eat.

Emerwyn took one step into the cafeteria and inhaled deeply. The food smelled so amazing. This was either because it actually was, or she was just too hungry to even tell the difference between Salsbury steak and gruel.

She was so distracted by the smell of the food, that she left Colche behind, making her way as quickly as she could to the source of the smell. Her drive to get some food was almost animal.

Emerwyn approached a woman in the cafeteria, who obviously served the food there. She was suprised at herself when she only ordered a salad, and a glass of tomato juice.

Colche watched emerwynn go but she could barely contain herself any way, the sight of the food drove her to a smile, an acctual smile a starving smile. She bounded to the counter and picked up a bowl, like Aubrey had shown her, then she started along the line, picking up anythign and everything, taking a really big bite out of what ever she picked up before it was put in the bowl. It didn't even matter if she liked the taste or no, all that matterd was that it was food and she could eat it. It still wasn't quite buried in her mind that perhaps she wouldn't have to wortry about food any more and she was half way to the nearest picknic table with a bowl over flowing with the bits she hadn't yet yeaten when she saw ian and stopped. Her eyes went wide and she bit her bottom lip, she almost looked paralised wheer she stood until a little whine escaped ehr and she slowly, ever so slowly creapt forwards towards the picknic table. She continues to bite ehr bottom lip clinging to the bowl in her hands. he stopped at the table ehr body trembling as she looked for a place to hide. Under the table seemed best so she slipped under there holding tightly to the bowl as if it was a life line. The sounds of rabid eating flowed through the thick wood as she scoffed away at the food in the bowl. Food, then work, Aubrey said no more work "no more work" she squeeked not emerging from under the table for fear that the man would come and get her, despite what she had been told. The thought that she would be punished by the man only hit her after she had bolted the food in her bowl and her stomach tightend like a drum, she wasn't allowed to hide, if she hid she would be punished. She trembled and hid ehr face in her knees. "no more work, Aubrey say no more work" she whisperd ehr voice a terrified humm of distress.

Ian scowled. The black haired girl was scared of him before he had even talked to her. WHy did he keep scaring the girls so much? Savagely ripping intothe meat perchdon his knife he pondered himself. He wasn't that scarywas he? Swallowing his bite he called outto the girl "Are you alright? I won't hurt you..."

Emerwyn had her tray when she finally realized: Colche!!!
She felt terrible, looking around the large room frantically for the girl. She couldn't see her.
She did, however, see a man eating his meat very enthusiatically, off of a knife of some sort. Then, he stopped, and leaned over. He was talking to something under the table. ... ... She stooped a bit to look... It was Colche. She sighed, and rushed over.
Emerwyn set her tray down on the table where the man sat.
"It's alright. I won't hurt you..."
"Colche? Don't be afraid. Do you want to come up and sit with me?" Even though she only knew Colche for about an hour, Emerwyn felt responsible for her, like an older sister.
She then sat down, and turned to the man. "I'm sorry if she bothered you. I've only just met her myself... I don't think she's been in contact with many people. ... My name is Emerwyn, by the way."
She was suddenly aware of her wrinkled and salty clothes, and her fiercely knotted hair. She hadn't had much time between meeting Colche and arriving here.

Colche peerd out from under the table watching Emerwynn, she was acctually under a different table but she could see the man and hear emerwynn well enough. She peeps her huge blue eyesd head out biting her bottom lip she crawls from under the table very slowly. She stays sitting on the floor though eyeing the man very wearily as if he was coming to get ehr personally. Her eyes met with the blade he was using to eat and she bit down harderon ehr lower lip blood seeping from beneathe her teeth. she'd seen one of those before. Her eyes followed the movement of the knife. She didn't move though from where she was sitting simply watching him to make sure she wasn't going to be attacked. She licks her lips slowly, a thirst was taking her now and she glanced at the bottles on the side, frightend to move incase turning her back on tha man meant it was time to work again.
