She nodded. "He's after me. Or, they all are. 'Rogue says find the key. Some card... They're gonna kill me if I can't give it to them." A.C. looked nervous and tried not to glance at her arm. "Hey, kid, you wanna tag along? I'll show you the hiding spots if you help me look."

Haldis looked AC over for a minute, her eyes shining a bit pale. But then she shrugged, "Mmkay."

The street kid grinned. "Cool. Then come on!" She grabbed Haldis' hand with her right and made for the rec. "I gotta grab a couple friends, more of us the better."

Halids grinned and ran with it. "What other people are we gonna grab? Why do we need more of us?"

((Continued from rec. Yes, I've been putting it off.))
All three teens tried to jostle out the rec door at the same time, and in the process hit A.C.'s arm. Not that she felt it, all the nerves there completely dead... but her eyes crossed and rolled up in her head, and she collapsed limply, letting go of Haldis' hand.
"Unholy--! A.C.! Terlance, kid, you gotta breathe..." Jeff knelt down and picked her up, concerned. "Damn, what the hell is with the collapsing? She seemed so good a second ago, thought the arm was fake. Hack?"
"No idea." The young hacker still seemed green and wouldn't look at her. "So, where we leavin' her?"
Jeff blinked. "Say what?"
He looked at the runaway like he was stupid. "She said people are after her, to kill her. She's no threat our way if she's unconscious, no skin off our hands if we let 'em have 'er. So, where we dumping the corpse?"
Jeff looked horrified, but nodded slowly. "You're--you're right. Murderers and rapists... But what if she wakes up, Hack? What if they don't kill her, or she escapes? What if... what if us being there would make a difference."
He looked at Jeff skeptically. "You ever killed somebody, runaway? You ever had to?"
"N-no."
"Me neither. And I don't want to, and you don't want to, and I don''t even want to know if this girl can. We're dead if we stick with her. Drop the body over there--" he pointed down the hall to the left-- "and we're getting out of here. Or better yet, we go back and play pool. This never happened." Yet, his voice shook as he spoke the last sentence.
"...Right, Hack."
As Jeff walked down the hall, slow as a funeral marcher, the hacker turned to Haldis with a beedy eye. "You got somethin' to say, little girl?"

A smile crossed Haldis's face. She held out her hand to the hacker, the hand was glowing a bright white. "Not really." She said.

Haldis shook her head and dropped her hand. "Forget it, you're not worth the effort. They would just kill you in the end anyway." She turned away from him and looked at the unconscious AC, and poked her with a finger.

"Damn right... And Jeff? Hurry back. I'm gettin' out of here." The hacker ducked back into the rec and made his way to the pool table again, trying to pretend he wasn't nervous about being there alone.
Jeff jerked A.C. away for the girl. "Hey! Now... Don't poke people when they can't poke back. ...You wanna walk with me?" He looked lonely.

Haldis shrugged and returned her hands to her pockets. "Sure, I'll walk with you." She skipped along with the boy, her white hair bouncing up and down with her movements.

He gazed down at her with an odd smile as they walked, already removing himself mentally from the body in his arms. "You kinda look like my little sister, a couple years ago. She had white hair like that. You got any sibs?"

Jeff looked disgusted, then sympathetic. "Yeah, that's what my dad always said. Guess that's why she divorced him, huh? My half-sister, and she had a twin, but he was born sick and didn't really make it... It's kinda nice, though, being a big brother. I mean, once you get used to it it's not bad." He looked sadly down at A.C., but didn't really see her. "I kinda miss her."
