Triton's ears twitched, like they naturally do without him realizing it. It was only slightly, as they were catching other sounds around him, and there were a lot of sounds that caught Triton's attention.
He tried to pretend he did not notice, besides he should be use to it by now.

Haradhel blinked. "Oh, it's safe enough for children to go to the city themselves," she assured Cindy, "as long as you're in your own land. The children who are taken, they're not taken from off the streets. Humans are generally not allowed in the elven cities anyways, but if there were any, if they tried anything, they wouldn't get far at all. Everyone will protect a child from danger, no matter whether they are their own or not."

Amdir nodded and smiled. "They were here earlier, with Aliya," he said softly. "Actually, they're just over there ..."
And he pointed towards the stable, where the three of them could still be seen in the corral just to the side, the two mers sitting on the fence and Aliya still showing them the parts of the horse.
His gaze lingered on Aliya for a few moments more, and then he turned back to the others.

"But even if they lived outside the city limits children are allowed to walk on their own?" Cindy inquired.
After all the inn had always been quite a number aways from the city limits for reasons that Kara wasn't all that fond of the city to begin with.

Donovan looked to check, and could see Feng and Ryu sitting there listening carefully. Well Ryu was careful, Feng was careful but she was figety. Judging by the way she kept twirling her hair around her finger, she was going to give herself ringlets at that rate, which was saying something since her hair was straight as it could get.
"Well... it looks like they're doing well," Donovan commented before looking back at Amdir, "Probably because they can relate to Aliya."
Same age more or less (for Seconds and for time difference) and Aliya.... Donovan had decided was a frighteningly a lot like Feng in personality.

Haradhel laughed softly. "You know Aliya, you know what she's like, and what she's always been like. Even as a child, she spent her days wandering, exploring ... and out here is about as far away from a city as you can get."
She grinned. "And I pity anyone who tries to get the best of her."

Amdir nodded expressionlessly. "They do seem to get along quite nicely," he agreed. Then he smiled. "And Feng, I have to admit, is very much like Aliya."
He grew quiet for a moment, thoughtful; then he cleared his throat awkwardly and smiled again. "Is there anything I can help you with, sir? Any questions you might like to have answered?"
The tips of his ears had turned slightly pink, and he knew it - though he was trying his best not to think about it.

Cindy looked thoughtful, "I suppose so."
Though she couldn't imagine anyone coming into here, even though she had been told there had been a raid before Aliya had even been born. Though she didn't know the full details on that.
"So Aliya hasn't changed a bit?"

Donovan thought about it, he supposed he could ask about how Admir trained the horses, but if he was going to do so, it would be at another time out of interest. Not because he was the owner checking about, besides he didn't know anything about training horses and he sure as damn well wasn't going to pretend he did!
The man was hired, he knew his trade, he didn't like it when people told him how to do his job, he wouldn't tell someone else how to do theirs unless he actually knew something about it.
"Hmmm... not particular, well beyond how you train them, but that," Donovan waved it off, "Is purely out of interest, I don't know anything about training horses. My family has kept them just so everyone learnt how to ride them in case we're going into some far off outskirts. Most head to the city though when they grow up."

Haradhel laughed. "From what I'm told, no," she grinned. "I mean, I only met her two weeks ago, but Ulani assures me she's no different than she ever was - perhaps a bit more responsible for her duties, but that's it."
She finished off the curtain and set it aside, then stretched a bit.
"Would you like a glass of water?" she asked Cindy, rising from her seat.

Amdir smiled. "I talk to them," he replied softly. Then he laughed. "I know that sounds strange, but it's a gift I have ... communicating with animals. Likewise, I understand them - and it makes it far easier to work with them, because if something is bothering them I know what it is and how to calm them again."
He indicated the coiled rope that was tied at his waist. "Rather than use a whip to get them to do what I want, I toss the rope behind them. It startles them in the same manner but doesn't harm them or frighten them. It's far more effective and the horses are in no way harmed."

Cindy looked at all the things around her, not realizing so much time had passed.
"Yes please," she murmured with a small nod.

Damn him and his inability to remain social for more than a few minutes, but then again Donovan really didn't know anything about horses. Though he had to admit that was an excellent way of training. No point in abusing the creature that was going to help you.
"More effective and happier horses," Donovan added with a murmur, "Quite a useful gift, I guess it sounds strange, but there are stranger things..."
Much stranger things he added mentally, though he would have never thought of other creatures having thoughts, or maybe they showed him pictures. Who knew?

Haradhel headed quickly to the kitchen and returned shortly with two empty glasses in hand.
"Here you are," she smiled, holding one of the glasses out for Cindy. "I always wait until the cup has been delivered before I fill it ... I may be skilled in fighting and in household activities, but for the life of me I can't carry a full cup more than three steps without spilling it."
She laughed.
Elrohir looked at Donovan as if he had two heads. "You think that's strange?" he questioned. "Strange is - no offence, Triton - having body parts that aren't humanoid."
He hated that word. The elves had come first, but it had been the humans who had coined the term, and so rather than being 'elvenoid' they were 'humanoid'.

Amdir nodded his agreement.
"I'm afraid I have to agree," he said apologetically to Triton. "I hesitate to ask ... were you born like that or did a magical experiment go drastically wrong?"
He hoped he wasn't insulting the man.
