Digital Malevolence I've heard debates that all gothic metal is, is melodic symphonic black metal. Its as debatable as a subgenre of metal as viking metal is. Edit: so pretty much, black and gothic are very close subgenres, usually. No, not at all. Certain bands like CoF, Dimmu Borgir, Moonspell, and Agathodaimon, may fit that but stuff like Type O Negative, Paradise Lost, Within Temptation, Tristania, and Poisonblack are nothing like that.

Yeah, I never said I agreed, I only heard that arguement. and in almost all gothic metal bands I've heard, theres black metal elements in almost all gothic metal bands, even in; Type O, Within Temptation, PoisonBlack, and Tristania....I never really listened to Paradise Lost.

I haven't heard any in Poisonblack, or Paradise Lost (I haven't listened to the others too much). Poisonblack is more along the lines of Heavy/Post-thrash.

I don't like Goth Metal... opera is lovely, but don't sing it in front of a metal band.

Hmm, I suppose you're right.....but I would say its safe to agree that a good 75% of Gothic Metal has black metal influences and elements.
