Ethan noted the lack of response, and stifled a sigh. He couldn't fault Hellis for being angry or utterly petrified of him.
"Alright. I can stay out here."
So he sat, waiting patiently for another ten minutes or so, and dared to slide a little closer to the doorway, carefully so not to frighten Hellis back under the bed.

Hellis flinched back half a centimeter , stayed there a moment, and then relaxed, sliding out with his cheek against the rug, staring up at Ethan.

Ethan smiled a little.
"I'm going to come in, alright?" he said, edging into the room a little more. "I'll leave if you don't want me in here."
Sitting just inside the room, he fidgeted with his rosary nervously.
"Are we...okay, now?" he asked hesitantly.

Hellis wriggled a little further under the bed again for a good 30 seconds and the pulled himself all the way into the open, sitting cross-legged and staring wide-eyed at Ethan.

With a tiny sigh of relief, Ethan gave a small smile.
"Okay. Good, this is good."
Knowing full well his circle of friends these days were limited to adoptive family, Ethan didn't want to lose Hellis because of an episode of utter psychosis. In the grand scheme of things, really, it hadn't even been his fault at the time. But one glossed over these details. He hesitated, hoping he wasn't jumping the gun, and raised his arms a little.
"C-could I...have a..." he paused, blushing slightly, and let the gesture speak for itself. Worse came to worst, all he'd get was a rejection. And probably send Hellis running for the hills.

But no! A smile crossed Hellis' face and he lunged forward, tackling Ethan to the ground in a hideously tight hug. Huh! All better!

What breath that wasn't knocked out of him escaped Ethan anyway as a laugh. His glasses sat skewed on his face, one arm poking him in the eye. He didn't care in the slightest, and hugged Hellis back.
"Okay," he said, grinning widely and wheezing a little in-between words. "This is good."

Hellis loosened up a bit and giggled before returning his cheek to Ethan's chest. Why, yes! This was good!

Ethan just kept lying flat on his back, adjusting his glasses and still laughing. Well. Whatever damage he'd done had been forgiven and forgotten, thank god. He would have hated for Hellis to have stayed afraid of him. In the unguarded moment, a light, harmless tickle of static that threatened to make him sneeze again and short out the house's electricity washed over him. He clapped a hand to his face and resisted it. No no, not again.
"Augh! It's like I just snorted a faceful of dandelion fluff," he said, rubbing his watering eyes and taking a deep breath to counter the static.

Hellis looked up and, logically, grabbed Ethan's nose and squeezed.
"Control it," he ordered in an authoritative tone that didn't usually exist.

"Fnk!" Ethan said intelligently, static popping in protest before dying down. He blinked. "Huh. Guess that works."
At least it was just static, he reflected, and not fire. Crow had set fire to her bed no less than six times before she'd figured out how to 'turn off' her own power.
"This'll take getting used to," he said, sitting up. He cracked a grin and tried to resist laughing again. "I think I'm good now, Hellis. You can let go."

"But I don' wanna," Hellis said, back to his usual childlike ways, and kissed at Ethan's face.

Ethan looked surprised at first, then just smiled again a little.
"Alright then," he said, looking a little pleased.

Hellis heaved a happy little sigh then and sat up, still on Ethan.
"You left a..." he began, but stopped there, pulling his shift collar down to where Ethan had bitten. There was a very interesting scar there.

Ethan's steadily happier mood was snuffed like a candle flame. He turned distinctly gray, and a strained look that had been absent from his face for the past two days made itself right at home again.
"Oh, Hellis," he said, eyes overbright and watering. "Oh, god, I'm so sorry!"
