Jane scowled at the mention to the dresses. Was Wink really going to make her wear one?
Shade butted her elbow with his head to get her attention.
"What?" she wispered.
"If we're going to a new place. You could drop the disquise. You could have done it years ago."
Jane was silent. Shade was right, but how was she going to break the news to Wink and the others?
She sighed and said to Wink. "I'll where a dress, but I'll go as a servent. Nothing fancy."

Rayne quickly picked up on the topic, she gave a slight smile. "I'd much rather actually go out an pick up my own dress. I know a small shop that doesn't mind my kind. And it'd be cheaper than to send out for them." she looked at the others. "And they probably wouldn't mind you lot either. The owners a friend of mine, and no stranger to persecution- Her daemon, a big-cat, is the same gender as her, like your's." she said, glancing at walter.

Walter took another another leisurely sip of coffee; it was really very good. "I really don't care where you get them, as long as they're nice. You have to look like upstanding ladies." He turned his attention to James, his expression thoughtful. "I suppose it wouldn't matter if you dressed as a servant girl; ladies like the ones Rayne and Dani are supposed to be would likely travel with one, in any case."
Without another word, he got gracefully to his feet and crossed the room, Alirialie gliding behind him like a second shadow. They disappeared into the bathroom, the door shut, and a second later the sound of running water started up.
Walter tested the bath water, then stood and started undoing shirt buttons. Alirialie looked reprovingly up at him. "You're still spooked, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Walter shortly, "Aren't you? Now hush. I want a nice, relaxing bath, and dammit, I'm going to get one."

Dani scowled at the idea of wearing a dress, but nodded anyway. She slid to the floor next to Arba and began stroking the fur on his neck reassuringly. "I have something at my house I can use. It won't take long for me to get it. When are we gonig to be leaving?"

Jane scruffed her heel across the floor in aggitaion. She heard Dani say something about her getting a dress from home. "I don't like this," she mumbled.
Shade cocked an ear in her direction. "What now?"
"The priest was out last night. Another murder could have happened."
"We've been tailing him for the past few months. I don't think he's the killer."
"Does the fact that he doesn't have a daemon not ring any warning bells in your head?"
"They do. But we have never seen him kill anybody."
Jane grumbled but stayied silent. Shade was right, they haven't acually kill anyone. But they both agreed something was wrong with him.

Luke frowned a little when Walter just up and left, going into the bathroom, but shrugged it off; it didn't really matter he guessed.
Looking to Dani he replied, "Um... Probably in an hour or so? Depends when everyone gets back I guess," he said. His eyes flicked to James when he started speaking to his daemon, something about a priest but not having any idea what that might be about, he ignored it and instead said, "Well I'll see you all soon," with an almost-fake grin before going downstairs.
He was uncomfortable around people, felt like they were always watching him and judging him, probably a legacy from his father's teachings but that didn't matter. Of course going downstairs to the relitively busy common room wasn't exactly a good way to escape such feeligns of screwtany but he had to get some clothes sent and didn't want to have to go shopping himself. Approaching the man at the desk, he cleared his throat a little to get his attention, then said, "Walter wanted to get some clothes sent to the room, some nice clothes for me," he finished, figuring that the girls and soon-to-be-girl (James) would want to go shopping together, even though James hadn't expressed any knowledge of somewhere to go to aquire such a dress. Either way if any didn't want to go out they could just order them themselves since they would have a better idea what size they would want.
Not giving the man a chance to refuse or give him any reason to linger, Luke left, going back up the stairs and into the room.
Hesitating a little, he knocked briefly on the bathroom door before opening it, entering and closing it behind him. He sat on a wooden bench on the other side of the screen that shielded the bath so he wouldn't encroach on Walter's privacy and said, "I ordered my clothes, I think the others wanted to buy or get theirs directly so I just left that up to them."
He fell silent again, wanting to breach something that had been playing on his mind ever since Walter had re-appeared but not really k nowing how to bring up the subject. Finally he just said, "Did father tell you anything... about Mother?"

Alirialie, stretched out on the tile like some exotic rug, twitched her tail uneasily, but the voice that came from behind the curtain was, as always, the essence of calm. "He told me she was gone. I can guess the rest." There was an extremely pregnant pause, broken only by the sound of moving water. "Oh, fantastic," Walter said in a much drier tone, "Luke, could you hand me the soap? It should be by the sink."

Jane looked up as Luke left the room and then over to the two others.
"Then should we get going? We can run by Dani's place to pick up her dress while we're at it. Or do you want her to get a new one?" she asked Ryane.
Shade scratched an ear and said to Jane, "You can also drop the painting off and collect the money."
Jane clamped Shades mussule shut. "Not with the others with me, you idiot," she hissed.

Luke sat silently after Walter told him what he knew about their mother. He didn't know whether his brother wanted to know more or if he did but not right then or if he'd rather not know at all. It had only happened three months ago afterall; Luke was only just getting used to life without her himself. He stayed silent, figuring that if Walter would want to know anything about her then he would ask.
Luke giggled a little when Walter asked for the soap, the tension in the room broken. Standing, Rhynll climbing from his lap to his shoulder, he grabbed the soap and went around the screen to hand it over, figuring if Walter was willing to ask him that when it was probably close enough for Alirialie to get it then he was ok with Luke seeing him naked. Handing it over, he said, "How could you get into a bath and forget soap?" he asked, chuckling again.

"I wasn't thinking about it," replied Walter, affecting wounded dignity, "And Aliri won't pick up soap." He wanted to get Luke away from the subject of their mother until he had time to sort some things out inside his head, and joking was always the best way to redirect the boy's attention.
"Would you if all you had to work with was your mouth?" Alirialie shot back without lifting her sleek head. "It tastes terrible." Grumbling to herself, she curled into a small, tight ball, looking for all the world like an absurdly large kitten.

((good news, my internet should be up at home in 2 days.... and if its not I'm gonna be REALLY pissed off since this is taking way longer than I wanted it to))
Luke smirked, then giggled at what the two said. "Oh I'm sure you would have found a way," he replied. "I know you can be clever when you want to be."
Sitting on a near-by stool, he coughed a little then, ignoring it, asked, "So when are you going to tell me what you've been doing the last couple of years? You didn't leave any word after you left so we had no idea."
((Update: Yay they came in early so I now have the net at home so everything is back to normal *grins*))

Dani glanced at Rayne, wondering why James was asking permission. It wasn't like they had a social order, was it? Dani made a face. If they did, she was certainly at the bottom. Arba sat smugly at her feet, still pleased that he had been right about James' sex. Idly, waiting for Rayne's response, Dani wondered what James' real name was. She supposed it could in fact be James, but doubted it.
