ljosberinn Have you ever wondered how, when something like this happens in the US, 33 are shot, all of the Western world seems to be in shock, it was all they talked about yesterday in the news here. When 33 are killed in Iraq, we get some small line in the paper and we think 'huh, that's not too many actually..'. Even when 3300 are killed in Iraq, we don't seem to mind much. I mean, it is horrible someone would do something like this and all, but the people in Iraq (and everywhere else there is a war going on) have families too. I feel much worse for them, I mean, they have to face this kind of s**t every single day. emo I know. >< I put, in one of those "OMG V-TECH!!1111" threads here, something to the effect of 'I really don't care. Look at all those poor Iraqis being killed.'

I've never even heard of Darfur. sad
I don't watch television, get the newspaper, or listen to the radio [only classical music, but, it doesn't quite count as a news station.]
So.... What's the issue with Darfur? sweatdrop

So.... What's the issue with Darfur? sweatdrop Look at the website. It's a huge genocide going on in Sudan. A genocide that is being pretty much completely ignored by America. For some reason, we're not intervening. Hundreds of people are being killed each day; I mentioned the statistics above. It's got to do with tribal relations, I think. It's really, really bad, and if our government were decent at all it would intervene. People are trying to take action, but it's very difficult when we get almost no media attention about it. It seems like a lost cause, and that's a terrible thing.

They've made it pretty clear that they "didn't need" the US's support in WWII, even though the US and USSR were the two major forces that ended that war. Maybe we should stop helping people. James Monroe had the right idea about foreign policy - stay out of foreign affairs unless it threatens our country. If they all don't want us to be a bunch of interfering meddlers, we might as well be a bunch of neutral ignorants. Either way, though, it seems this poor country will never have a good reputation ever again.

Back when teh US was isolationist and wanted to stay out of the whole Hitler thing for as long as possible. Both sides tried to get teh USA's support. As for Darfur, well, teh USA is not ignoring it. THey are just working with the UN at the moment. The problem with Americase meddling is when it does so for purely its own goals.. e.g. overthrowing democratically elected left wing govet in Iran and Sth America. Not when it acts with others such as in kosovo.
