Sparkfire scented Dovewing, and veered away from her toward the river. What she saw made her double over with laughter.
Dawnkit, Sunkit, and and Fernkit were staring wide-eyed at a fish. Sparkfire hadn't the faintest inclination to herd them home: in her opinion, kits should have their fair share of danger and fun.
"It's called a fish," Sparkfire explained lightly. "WaterClan eat fish all the time."

The three kits jumped at the sound of another cats voice. Fernkit shrunk at the sight of the strange cat. Dawnkit, however, being the bolder one, asked. "What's a Waterclan?"
Sunkit was already chowing down on his catch. "Fish taste good!" He mewed aafter a few ravenous bites.

"What's a clan?" Dawnkit mewed curiously. Then ahe looked at Sunkit and Fernkit and asked. "Ya' ever heard of 'em?" Suddenly the reeds behind them and a familiar tortoiseshell face was looking at them. The cat bore no scent of any of the four clans, but of The Outskirts. It was there Mother! Meaning, they were going to be in serious trouble.
"There you three are! I was worried sick about you!" Falconfrost exclaimed, licking each of her kits. Then she glared at them. "Now what are you doing in Clan territory?" She sighed. "What am I going to do with you three?"

Dovewing scanned the river's tranquil surface, and saw a dark shadow upstream. She sat down and waited patiently for it to make its way down to her, taking care so that her shadow didn't land on the river and scare the fish away. When it was just the right amount of distance away, she flashed down a paw quickly, and was rewarded by the large, plump, fish that she had caught.
"Mmmm," she sighed. "This smells sooo good. I wish I could eat it right now!"
But she couldn't. As a kit, she had learned to feed the Clan first, so she buried the fish. She paused, and decided to go back and sun herself. She grunted and unearthed the fish. She put it in her jaws and trotted towards WaterClan camp.
On the way, she stopped. Okay, this time, I definitely scented a kit. Smells like milk, she thought. Dovewing bristled as she smelled an unfamiliar she-cat with her sister, Sparkfire.

Falconfrost noticed the Waterclan cat, Sparkfire, and bristled. "If you laid even a claw on my kits, I'll claw your fur right off to where you look like a new born rabbit, then feed you to the dogs in the twoleg village." She hissed at the Wateclan warrior.
Fernkit sniffed the air and detected that another 'Waterclan' cat was nearby.

Dovewing trotted towards Sparkfire's scent. What if there was an intruder? She narrowed her eyes determinedly as she neared the place where she thought they were.
Dovewing padded softly and stopped when she heard a she-cat talking, or rather, more acurately, hissing, at her sister.
She came into view and asked coldly, "Who are you, and why are you here? This is WaterClan territory, and we do not look kindly on intruders."

Fernkit turned around to see another cat. She shrank. "Mom. Who are all these strange cats? There scaring me." Sunkit nodded in agreement. "Me too." Out of the orner of her eye, Fernkit saw Dawnkit try to sneak off again but Falconfrost stepped on her tail to prevent her from wondering off again.
"I apologize for trespassing on Waterclan territory. I was just trying to find my kits-" Falconfrost apologized, staring at Dawnkit -the ring leader of her kits. "-who happened to have wandered to far from home." Still looking at Dawnkit. "I'm sure Waterclan cats can understand."

"Sure we can," replied Sparkfire warmly. "We were kits once, too. And we'd never hurt kits." Even without the warrior code, which stated that no cats could neglect any kit in danger, whatever clan they belonged to, she would never think of harming anyone as innocent.

"Mom...who are these cats? They don't smell like smoke or stone." Sunkit mewed, annoyed that there question hadn't been answered.

Dovewing paused, then smiled. As long as they weren't taking prey, that was okay with her. "We're WaterClan cats," she told the kits, amused. "We're a group of cats who live together, hunt together, and look out for each other. Of course, there's other Clans, but we don't live with them."

Falconfrost smiled and added. "Yup. Over there's Fireclan. They live way over there in those huge trees. Personally I think they make to much noise when stalking prey, but what do I know? Anyways the leader is Showerstar, there deputy is Lotusleaf, there medicine cat is Dewleaf, and the madicine cat apprentice is Mysterypaw." Fernkits eyes were wide with curiousity. "Then in that direction-" She continued, pointing north. "-is Moonclan. I don't know much about them other then that there leader is Dawnstar and there deputy is Mistfeather. Also Waterclan helped them move into when they first arrived here in the forest. Personally I still think Waterclan is mouse-brained for that. No offense. Anyways and over there-" Falconfrost started to stare longingly at Earthclan territory.
"What's over there?" Dawnkit mewed. That snapped Falconfrost back to reality. "What? Oh right, over there is...Earthclan. There leader is Friskstar; there deputy is Crowfang; there Medicine Cat is Bluenight; they don't have a medicine cat apprentice; there warriors are: Darkstreak, Tigerfrost, Dappledpelt, Braveheart, Venomheart, Shadowrun, Snowhunter, Stormheart, Silverbell, Heartfang, Lovewhisker, Rainingcloud, Blackwhisker, Woodsong, Dawnheart, Copperwing, Willowbreeze, Hawkfire, Shadeclaw, Rockfowl; I don't know who the current apprentices are. Earthclan lives in the side of a cliff." She concluded
Dawnkit thought it was strange that she knew the names of so many cats and espeically from one particular clan. But then she asked. "Do we live in a clan?" There mother stared at her before replying, "No."

Dovewing shifted uncomfortably. "So, do you plan on staying here for long?" she asked. "Or do you plan on leaving right now?"

"We'll leave...now." Falconfrost mewed. She headed in the direction of the Outskirts, but Sunkit stayed where he was. Fernkit turned to look at him. "Come on Sunkit! You're slower then a drunken twoleg that just woke up."
"NO! I want to stay and catch more fish!" Sunkit mewed defiantly. Falconfrost turned her head around abruptly and hissed. "And who taught you how to fish?!"

Sparkfire cocked her head. "How do you know so much about the clans? And EarthClan in particular?" She paused. "And I guess I should be offended for the part about being mouse-brained, but..."
Sparkfire was brimming with questions. Had Falconfrost once lived with EarthClan? Was that why her name was so--clan-ish?
