One quick question. Is it worth having both high marchall helbrecht and chaplain grimaldus in an army together? I tooled out a normal marshall and chplain and they are not much cheaper, so I would assume that if you can include them you should. I am I right?

You have to ask to use special characters, though.
Accually no, those were the old rules, now you can have special characters when ever you want, though your opponent ask you not to so that the game won't be won through just one incredibly powerful one such as a tooled out demon prince of the nightbringer.

Tournement wise they're usually not allowed. I'm not sure about what you said about not asking, I'll have to double check, but I don't think theyd change that. O_o

no, you CAN do that, there's no rules saying no.

Yeah I figured that in tournaments you can't use them but I am talking about in friendly matchs. So back to my original question. Should I have both High Marshall Helbrecht and Chaplian Grimaldus together in the same army or no? And to Sgt_OBrien if you are wondering where you can find that you don't have to ask checkout last edition's space marine codex it says you both have to agree to use special characters while now thye don't say anything they just usually have a point restriction.

Unless it's 3000 points plus then don't take both characters. They take up to many points.Personaly I'd reserve a Tag team like that for 3500.

Not that I know of.I know at 2000+ you use 2 force charts wich means 4 HQ choices. That gives alot of fun for SM forces.

Its for every extra 1000 points over 2000 you get a extra FOS slot. Like more troops & such

Space Marines can already have six characters in a legal army list.

Hm. That makes nine. If you read page twenty-one in the codex, it states you can attach one librarian and/or chaplain to a command squad. Which means you could take two captains, two librarians, two chaplains, and three techmarines.

They still count as HQ choices I thought.Still would be a waste of points IMO.

Special characters can only be taken with the permission of your opponent. Read the Independant Character section of the new rulebook, and towards the end it talks about special characters.

No that section only states that, "In some cases with particularly legendary and celebrated characters, they may only be used in battle where both players have agreed to their use before hand." pg. 52 Special Characters

This means that with some of the uber special characters it's up to everyone to use their own discression on those characters.

Everyother time as long as you fulfill the requirements you do not have to ask permission.
