Okay, so at our last competition (at the Naval Academy- it's huge!), there was this shirt place set up by the concessions, with all these AWESOMELY AMAZING band shirts. One of them said, "I'm bringing Saxy back", two girls in my section got them. I wanted one reaaaally badly, but I didn't see the stand until we were leaving. :[ I hope they'll be there again for championships...

I'm gonna start playing bari sax now, just for fun. I'll try out for the Varsity jazz band next year, once I get the feel for it. From what I've heard, it's got the same fingerings as the alto sax does, AND it's in the same key! So I basically just have to get a good reed and then I'll be set. [If anyone else has switched or plays both alto and bari, let me know how the switch was.]

A month... well, I've got a whole year to get used to it and practice, and then a whole other year to actually play it in the band. [Also, I heard that the reeds are like 5 bucks. sweatdrop ]

The two boys whom dared to try it in normal band sound horrible. The reeds ARE expensive. Three 2 1/2 reads where 18 bucks. =7 I only had about 2 months to try it, a summer on Tenor, then instantly back on it for Jazz band when school started.

Well I'm not in normal band (I'm in symphonic, the best band in our high school), and I'm the best alto in that band. So I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. Thanks for sharing the story, though. I'll be sure to get really good before I even start playing in the band. mrgreen

hey sax section I was looking for some advice here. I was planning on starting to learn the saxophone but I was not sure which one to start on. If I should start on alto or tenor sax. I took a tenor sax home last summer and I like it a lot and I could get sound. I have tried alto sax a couple times and I can play it as well. I have looked it up on the net and a few places said that I should start on alto instead of tenor. What do you guys think about that? When I tried alto I couldn't make as good sounds as I could get on tenor. Should I just start on tenor then?
