Oh I know. When I fall asleep on the sofa or something, my back hurts more than when I sleep on the freakin' floor.
And yeah, they do have a etiquette for this whole shoe business. It's not okay to be barefoot, unless you are in a very casual situation or with some close-ish friends. But wearing shoes would be just barbaric, and everyone will give even more murderous looks at you if you WEAR the shoes and don't take them off. Wearing socks is the norm. If you are at your friend's house, and you need to go outside for just a short while, it's okay to loan sandals or such that are laying around the exists anyways. You don't even have to think whose shoes they are, you just take them.
