I just found out from the maintenance guy that there are seven other apartments with the same kind of damage as mine, but theirs are worse. The apartment around the corner has the ceiling falling in. I guess I got lucky compared to the other people.

There were leaks around 1/2 the windows in my room and one from the ceiling, a leak in the hall, 3 in the living room, and I found out the landlord had no intention of repairing any of them until I moved out. stare

If something goes wrong in another apartment, it could screw your apartment up too. *was fearful of someone starting a fire in another apartment and it being able to reach mine*

I cannot afford a house payment, homeowners association fees, property taxes, lawn maintenance service, homeowners insurance, or the upkeep costs and utility bills that come with a house, and I'd rather live alone than have any roommates again. The apartment complex I live in is actually really nice and has all kinds of safety things installed, so I don't worry too much about other people's stupidity here. The only down side about where I live is that since the economy took a down turn a lot of families with children have moved in because their homes were foreclosed on and this place wasn't intended to cater to kids. When I moved in it was mostly singles, couples/newlyweds, and retirees and now children (and the school buses they ride on) are everywhere. mad
It is so lovely to come home and see kids playing in the complex dumpster because there isn't a playground for them to use. rolleyes

I fear other peoples' stupidity and don't want to risk having someone else burn down the place where I live or otherwise endanger myself or my pets and my possessions. I also have had bad experiences while staying in condos with noisy neighbors, either partying on the other side of the wall all hours of the night or stomping around upstairs early in the morning. I like to sleep when I want to sleep, and not have to be woken up by other people making noise. I also would rather own the place I live in. I just hope I'll be able to afford it one day and that it won't be like ten or twenty years from now. I'm sick of living with mom and dad but I don't want to move out and waste money that I could save towards a house on renting something since I could never see renting as a permanent thing for me.

If it's full and you live with your parents, you should be able to afford a down payment on a house within a year or two.

It's only part time, unfortunately. gonk I'm hoping I can maybe look into finding a second job after the summer maybe, but I know jobs are hard to find. I'm hoping that my boyfriend will also try to find a job so that he could help in buying the house as well but so far he has not had any luck.

Buying a house wouldn't be practical for me at this time, I've been thinking about leaving Florida anyway....
