This wasn't starting to go well. He needed to sucessfully create three more clones. That was just in order to pass. Battōsai had to pull out of the stops. But he was also rather eager to get this test done. It wasn't that he didn't care for these exams, but he had a plan on training exercises he needed to get to. So he made the tiger seal and gather up the right amount of chakra. "POOF!!" Smoke appeared in three areas next to him. As the smoke faded, Mokujin-sensei's face seemed rather pleased on the results.

Exercise name: Combat situation theory Description: Find a creative solution for complex combat situations Roll: n/a DC: n/a Number of posts: n/a Method: Go to the clans/jutsus/bloodlines approvals forum and make a thread in which you create at least one jutsu that will reflect the gimmick of your character for his future development. Hiru's are already posted, if you want to understand what I mean. Make sure that the first step in your gimmick isn't A-Rank, you need to be able to use it right away and make variations for more advanced and complex techniques having this basic technique as a parent jutsu. Grades: n/a. When you are done creating your jutsu(s) and posting it/them in the subforum, write a short paragraph here in which your character writes about how he would use his gimmick in a combat situation.
Hiru was pretty thrilled that he had actually completed his genin exam, at least, that he thought he had. The joy that he felt when Mokujin-sensei announced they would all be relieved from the sparring evaluation was quickly smothered by the anxiousness that overtook him when he learned what the final exam was going to be: a written test.
Now, Hiru had always been fairly comfortable doing intense field work: missions, high level jutsu training, etc. However, theory had always been his Achilles heel, and he probably wished deep down he’d never have to go through these kinds of evaluations again when he joined the ninja academy. Still, his hands nearly trembling with fear, he grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from the table where Mokujin had placed the examination sheets and found a place to sit down.
After reading it carefully, it appeared the test might not prove to be as difficult as he anticipated. Basically it was one question and it asked about how he would react in a specific combat situation. Hiru was relieved to see that the test wasn’t purely about theory after all. The question was about a surprise attack by an enemy shinobi, he had to write about hoe he would subdue him using his “combat specialties”. Of course, Hiru had already subdued opponents in the past, but he’d never felt good about it, beating people to an inch of death with a staff was something he could do but could never enjoy.
So, trying to find how he could end this theoretical fight without killing or significantly harming his adversary, Hiru went back on the long jutsu training he had just been through after his last battle and had an idea. If he could change water into sticky syrup that could immobilize an opponent, he could very well turn his water clones into syrup clones and trap his opponent when he made contact with it. Of course, this wouldn’t work as well with long range shinobis but still, pretty much every ninja fights close quarters at one point or another of a battle, and would be completely trapped once he was enfulfed by the Mizuame bunshin! This way, Hiru could simply drain him nearly dry of his charka reserves using the Kyuin technique and make him faint.
Overjoyed by having found this idea he signed his paper and with a huge smile on his face he walked up to Mokujin-sensei and presented him the paper. “I’m done, sensei!”

Andou lazily walked back to the academy with Shinzu, keeping an eye on him in case the extreme amounts of salt decided to make their presence known in some other way, causing the boy to die or something. Andou didn't know. It had been a long time since he was a child and he'd forgotten how fragile they could be.
After they reached the training field again, Andou gestured vaguely at the kunai and the targets. "Same thing again, except with the kunai," he instructed Shinzu. "And be careful. These things are deceptively sharp." He smirked, and added, "Again, if you do extra well, I might give you an extra reward, and include the reward from the earlier shuriken exercise for good measure."
Throw Kunai d20 + dex mod. 10/10 1-4: outside the rings. {0 points} 5-9: outermost ring. {1 point} 10-14: 2nd ring. {2 points} 15-19: 3rd ring. {3 points} 20+: bulls eye. {4 points}
Get over 25 for a prize!

Mokujin took the two test results that had been handed to him and sealed them in separate enveloppes with their respective examinee's previous test results. He kept an eye on Battosai who was still focusing for his henge exam as he walked to Andou to hand him the enveloppes.
"Here you go monsieur le directeur, dere may be a few more coming but dese two are ready to be graded and considered for promotion."
He then returned to his chair and kept on grading Battosai as he adressed the two students who were now done.
"Kids, you guys are done for now, you've done well. Go and relax somewhere else, you will be notified of the final results...". He said, waving them away.

 So. The exam was finished already. Andou accepted the envelope, thanking Mokujin, but noting that there were only two. "Only two?" he asked Mokujin, looking at the names on the envelopes. "Takamura having some trouble?" he commented wryly. "Thank you anyway. I might pop in to see them if they're too slow in finishing." A nicer way to put it would probably be 'if Andou was quick enough in finishing the lesson', but then again Andou had never been nice and tactful.
Watching Shinzu practise, he opened the envelopes and read them and was blown away. Not bad... not bad at all. Andou felt a strange sensation swell in his chest. What was this? Could it possibly be pride? Although Andou looked, sounded and acted like an old fart, he was still only 22. Or 23. Andou wasn't really sure... but ANYWAY, it was nowhere near old enough to have done something momentous in his life, apart from killing people. But now he had had a hand in fostering new talents as well. Shin had been one of his very first students. Hiru had joined soon after. Andou still had no idea that Batosai was doing the exams but he would be happy to learn of that fact too. And well... rubbish boy... Andou had had no hand in him, but always nice to have a new shinobi in the force, he supposed. And the fact that most if not all of these students had lived through and had their education disrupted by multiple invasions...
Seeing the number of "highest honourable mentions" really made Andou feel quite good. The dreary atmosphere around him brightened substantially.

"Oh?", Masanori lift up his head in confusion when the announcment was done, looking at his sensei. "just leave?" it came as somewhat of a chock to do those chakra-consuming-exercises to then just leave, but he accepted it. His gaze turned to his father who was staring straight forward probably looking out through one of the many windows - that was built across the room. "He probably didn't hear a single word he said.. He is sooo easily distracted.. How the h*** does he survive in the ninja world?" he grabbed his own forehead and shook it sideways while walking towards his father. "Father?" his dad instantly moved his attention towards his son. "it's over now, I am gonna leave. Just so you know". He turned his heel and walked out of the classroom. Not caring what his father were to do next.

Hiru was glad he had been dismissed. The stress of this exam, and especially that last written part had kept him from sleeping well these last few days and he needed something to clam down a bit.
Wandering the halls of the academy as some of his companions we getting done with their training, Hiru stumbled upon the wall where the missions for academy students are posted. He looked it over a bit until a particular one caught his eye:
Ceremonial stage needs cleaning Description: The ceremonial stage is a very holy place. It is also very dirty. The shrine is rather large and may take a long time to clean. Requirements: Wall walking, Dex: 13, 20 post of at least five lines each. Or 10 successful Spot checks for dirt with a DC of 15 Member(s) assigned: Rewards: 15-20 base exp, 4 ryo + more for notable actions Pass or Fail:
As he needed something to do for now and that this mission seemed pretty relaxing, he carefully unpinned the announcement and headed for the shrine.

When you are done creating your jutsu(s) and posting it/them in the subforum, write a short paragraph here in which your character writes about how he would use his gimmick in a combat situation. By the end of the nawanuke part of the system Shin was gassed once more. He'd exhausted all his chakra trying to escape from the living hellhole which was Tokuori's belly and he sorely needed a moment or two to compose himself. He was in no real shape to be fighting, although that would probably prove to be his strongest section of the exam due to how much time he spent training his muscles. Unfortunately said muscles were trying their best to support themselves without the every present flow of chakra through his veins, meaning there was a fairly poor chance of him showing his true swordmanship skills. Luckily Masanori-sensei decided to simply skip that part of the exam and move onto something Shin could manage in his current state, writing. Small mundane tasks like writing, reading, or walking very slowly was all the young student could accomplish at this point and as such this last part of the exam was tailored to his current state of mind and body. He would hobble himself over to Masanori-senei, take one of the sheets graciously before ungraciously plopping down onto the cold hard floor. Once there and laid out in a comfortable position in which to both read and recover his chakra, Shin looked over the task infront of him. Jutsu Creation.... ....crap. Too say Shin was dumb was an understatement but he still prefered handling things with his fists than his mind. Not that he was unable to do otherwise but that just wasn't his style, for thinking lead his mind down too many avenue he did not wish to traverse. And as such, he took quite a while to come up with a "gimmick" of his own. Not just because of his aversion to thinking but also because he didn't really know himself well enough to know what it was he wanted from his battle style, from being a ninja or from life. He simply was in moment, moving from one point to another trying his best to keep out of trouble on track towards his vague goal of what his future should be. All he knew for certain is that he didn't want to be a nobody, an outsider or anyone else that was the subject of ridicule or gossip. He simply wanted to live free, to live above the petty politics that came with any sort of civilization. Yet he knew such earning were naive, that nothing in life was ever free but rather everything needed to be earned. Just as he had worked his butt off in the past to get to this point, he needed to work harder in the future in order to progress towards his goal. Because as he was slowly beginning to realize, the only freedom anyone can obtain is that which they make for themselves. So if he wanted to be free he needed to grasp it with his own two hands and whatever blade he held between them. So it was only fitting that he came up with a gimmick that dealt with using his decent level of chakra control in combination with his clan's crafting prowess to come up with a jutsu that allowed for temporary reconstruction of weapons. Ideal for changing attack strategies on the go, Shin came up with techniques that allowed him to change the shape and consistency of his blade in order to increase it's speed or damage potential, which ever he needed in a certain situation. So that when his opponent started running like a girl, he could shrink his blade to swiftly catch up and if they possessed more strength than himself he could increase the weight of his blade to allow for more heavy handed strikes. It was the beginning of a whole new style of swordplay.

Masanori enters walks through the yard to see to his suprise Andou and another new guy standing and chatting, probably discussing some kind of exercise. "Perfect timing!" he thought as he skipped away towards the two. "Andou-sama." he made a humble bow, he liked to think of himself that people saw him as a goody-goody type of guy. "I am reporting in for some training" his lips creating a dearsome smile, at the same time removing some of his own hair from his view.

 Sensing somebody's presence, a child's presence approach him Andou quickly put away the letters (this information was restricted after all) and turned to see who it was. Oh... it was that boy. Masanori was quite lucky that Andou had been cheered up by the exam results, of course Masanori was one of the results as well so in a way, he deserved it he supposed. Andou nodded at Masanori, but of course he continued to think Masanori weird. This was the boy he'd seen relaxing in rubbish the other day after all. And now it appeared he was trying to suck up...
"Hello.." Andou checked the envelope, "Kaijuu was it? All right then." Andou waved at the targets and explained, "Well, I'm conducting some target practice right now. You're welcome to join in. But of course since you're at an advanced level of skill, you should probably use another target." Andou indicated one leaning against the wall of the academy building, right at the corner. That target was particularly evil. Every circle was much smaller with the final bullseye practically being like a pinprick from this distance. Of course Andou appeared to find this completely reasonable. cool
1-7: outside the rings. 8-14: outermost ring. 15-20: 2nd ring. 21-25: 3rd ring. 26+: bulls eye.
{Well, there's no prize this time. (There was one for Shinzu) But you can continue to train. Well your training would be DC 8 I think. So as long as you hit a ring, you succeed. Well... from Masanori's training's point of view biggrin }

((20-2= 20. Bull's eye. DC: 8. 1/20))
Masanori listend to the teacher's words carefully but to an extent that he showed it in his facial expression, he was of course a man of superior intelligence. When Andou showed him the other target-board, his heart stopped. His experience of range combat must have been atleast the same as the other guy, possibly worse. To then show him a more difficult task? This guy didn't know Masanori at all. Or perhaps he did? "You f*ck, you f*ck, you f*uck.." he kept repeating, in his own mind as he walked up to the line where he was to throw. He had grabbed a kunai from before and now held it with a firm grip with his arm stretched all the way back passed his shoulder. "Okay.. So.. Just.. Throw.." he launched his arm forward while at the same time extending his arm and after that he closed his eyes. Not wanting to see how it went before he could hear the sound of the metall crashing into the wooden target. "Chunk!" it said after a short secound of silence, he slowly opened his right eye to see that the kunai had hit a bulleyes. "OH MY CRAPPY LORD OF ALL HEAVEN AND PUPPYS AND AAAAH" much better than he had hoped for. And with a gallant twist of his heel, he turned to Andou with a smirk. "Now what, Andou-sensei?"
