There was no sign of anyone for the first few minutes. Train sighed. It hadn't been that long, but she really wanted to battle something other than a wild pokemon. Her Pikachu tugged at her black pants, and pointed somewhere.

Train followed Pikachu's small yellow finger, and saw a trainer up ahead. He had short brown hair, and had a Pidgey fluttering around him. Train approached him immiediatly. "Hello!~" She said, grinning.

"Huh? Oh, hi." The trainer replied. "Who're you? Oh, I'm Brian." He said, smiling back at her.

"I'm Train!" Train said happily. "Care for a battle?" She asked. The kid was obviously a bird pokemon trainer.

"Sure, I don't see why not. Let's each use two, ok? Pick you pokemon, I'll use my Pidgey here." He told her stepping back as his Pidgey hopped onto the 'battlefield'.

"Ariados, come on lets go! Scary Face! " Ariados did all she could, but it was no use. She had taken too much damage, and evolving was a tiring process. She could not dodge, and met each slap head on as she snapped wildly and stood her body as to use the various stripes and colors to make an eerie face that would scare anyone to the soul. Keeping the scary face up, she tok the hits and moved back, one slap, two slaps, three slaps, four... When the onslaught ended, her legs buckled and Ariados fell defeated. Crenu sighed, clenching his fists tightly as he called back Ariados. "You did well Ariados, you actually did something worth while. Now it's your turn, end this Larvitar!" Crenu threw his ball into the battle zone, watching with a smile as larvitar jumped out in a neutral passive stance, simply glaring at the Clefairy with piercing dark eyes.

There was just something about the sound of a shovel hitting dirt that made Mike smile inside. His mother told him that his father always used to say that: 'There is pride in a job done well, no matter how small'. The boy grinned again as he brushed his bangs to the side, a small bead of sweat working down his face. He began humming a simple tune, hoping to pass the time as he toiled away. His tone was interrupted at the sound of metal smacking against stone. This was no ordinary rock obstacle, this was something else, he was sure. "Mr. Ranmo, over here!" He cried out, his eyes not straying from the disturbed earth for an instant.

Sting looked up at Ulani when he heard her compliment. He took his time to swallow his food before he spoke, which he tried to do in as clear a manner as any. Beedrill speak wasn't the easiest of Pokespeak to understand after all. 'Hehe, thanks 'Lani. Heck, if that Butterfreak hadn'ta zapped my juice, I'd of taken on that blade guy too. I'da hooked him with a right, taken a stab with my left, gah, it'da've been great!' Sting said, bursting with a little energy as he took shots at the air with his forearms. He then relaxed a little. 'I guess it's your turn now though. Good luck for you, though I'm guessing you won't need it.' After Sting said this, he rubbed his abdomen. Then, with a quick but harmless motion he pointed at Ulani, a competitive glare in his eyes. 'Just remember my little blue buddy; we still gotta score to settle. Once you finish your bout with Bugsy it'll be me, you, anytime, anywhere, got it?' Sting finished.

Ky happened to misread the situation, putting himself in between the two Pokemon, bringing up a scolding finger. "Woah there, Sting! No need to fight. Ulani needs her strength for Bugsy, so take it easy. We'll settle your fight for later. Finish up. We shouldn't keep M.A. waiting," he said.

"What is it boy?" Joeseph called out, standing up. His knees seemed to crack. "Ooh...getting too old for this..." he chuckled, walking over. Kabutops followed, his scythes covered in filth. The man lifted up his cane, the beam of light shining onto Mike's discovery. "Hmm...it seems that you've found it, Mike." He chuckled, getting onto his knees and blowing away a bit of excess dirt.

Kabutops could sense it. He braced himself, as if ready for an attacker. When the attacker never came, the prehistoric Pokemon backed off a bit. Joeseph licked his dry lips, a bit of sweat collecting onto his tongue. "Hmm...looks quite genuine...yes.." He dug around in his breast pocket and pulled out a magnifying glass, moving a bit closer. "Congrats, my boy! You've done it!" he patted Mike on the back and stood, his knees cracking again. "I'll be sure to write you down in my journal, Mike."

Jeremy's Clefairy stood in a state of shock after her attack. Every time she had made contact with the Ariados, the scary face on its back had made sick, tormenting impressions of pain. It made her feel as if she was murdering the spider with every slap, and sent a long, deep chill down her spine as Crenu's Larvitar was released. Its cold stare was met by the Clefairy's, though it was obvious that she was still shaken.

Jeremy kept his cool. "This is it," he thought. "One more." "Clefairy, snap out of it! Sing!" he called out. After a deep breath, the Clefairy calmed herself enough to let out another long, drawn-out chant, sending it out to try and lull the Larvitar to sleep.

"Then I'll use my pal here, Pikachu!" Train said, and Pikachu hopped off her shoulder and landed facing Pidgey. "You can go first, Brian." She said, grinning.

"If you say so." Brian replied, and looked at his Pidgey. "Alright, Pidgey, start with a Sand Attack!" He said, and Pidgey kicked up a bunch of sand in Pikachu's face.

"Pika!" Pikachu cried unhappily at being hit with so much sand. "Pikachu, Thundershock!" Train called out, and Pikachu zapped the opponent pokemon with a nice little shock of electricity.

"Don't fall for the chant Larvitar. Drown out the sound with a Sand Storm around yourself!" Larvitar nodded, immediately clenching his fists and summoning a roaring wall of sand that spun around him violently. As the storm spun it slowly expanded, getting wider and wider. The chants only managed to get in through the sands wailing in little bursts, like in incoherent sentence that only made Larvitar a little groggy, but nothing more, nothing he couldn't shake off.

Maven continued to watch the battle as she furiously ran the pencil across the paper. The battle was intense and she could feel the energy coming off in waves from the Raichu.

She quickly flipped the page as she got up and walked to watch the battle from a side view as she started up her drawing again. She made sure to sketch in the new cuts that Raichu had gained. It amazed her how it didn't really stop her it only seemed to make her more ready to bring her foe down.

Maven studied Kasiya's face as she started drawing the trainer. She could tell that the attack may not have stopped Raichu however it had hurt Kasiya on some level. what a amazing connection she has... Maven didn't stop drawing as the scene continued to unfold before her.

And Ulani, being Ulani, cheerfully let herself be content with understanding only about seventy-five percent of what Sting had said. His accent was unfamiliar to her, after all. Nevertheless, she found herself quite amused by his energy and antics (namely the invisible foe he jabbed at). The Swablu did understand the challenge in the last part, however -- and of course, she didn't care all too much for it, being far more playful than competitive. 'But only if you catch me first,' she teased from under Ky's arm, before darting away to her perch on M.A.'s head.

"Ah, alright, let's go!" the girl sheepishly laughed, recalling both Ulani and Daemyn. She left Tora out, deciding that they'd talk a little before the battle.

Just then, a pocket in her small backpack vibrated. Whipping it around on one shoulder, she fished through its contents for just a moment before pulling out a PokeNav. Another moment to read it. Another moment for a wide grin to sweep across her face. "Thanks," she said quietly to the machine before stuffing it back in her bag and turning her attention back towards the short journey to the Gym.

"Well, let's go!" she said to Ky once more; it might seem repetitious in text, but it worked after the small but pleasant interruption. The sliding doors slid open to reveal sparkling blue skies and a gorgeous summer day. How could she not be happy, excited, anxious, nervous, all mixed into one?

On the way, she picked up Tora again, finding it a little easier to carry her as if she were a baby -- a heavy one, at that. "It's our first battle together, huh?" she murmured to the small elephant. "I bet it's gonna be a bit different, having a trainer and all. . . But we can do it, if we work together, I'm sure." Tora slowly nodded, letting the idea soak in. Before, battling had been on impulse; the little Long-Nose Pokemon knew that there'd be less of that, now, and that she'd have to listen at the same time as battling. Sounded tough. But she trusted M.A. with it; after all, hadn't the girl seemed competent enough when she had fought Daemyn?

Finally, the Gym. The looming building sent a bunch of butterflies into her stoumach, something she hadn't felt yesterday when she had simply been a spectator. "Well, here goes," she said to no one in particular, and silently padded in.

They eventually came to the arena, undisturbed by the other Trainers that typically challenged challengers. "Bugsy," she called out across the vast space, realizing how small her voice sounded against the greenery around them. "Gym Leader Bugsy," she called out again, louder. "I'm Mary-Anne, from Fallorbor Town of Hoenn. And I'm here to challenge you for a badge."

Everything Tori looked at was going in slow motion. She didn't want to lose to Kaji and Rei, but there wasn't anything she could do. Kiwi was pretty much useless against Rei's thunder attacks. Eventully Rei will get tired out, but in the process of making her tired I will also be wearing Kiwi down. Tori let out a small sigh and looked at Kiwi. "Alright Kiwi! Dodge the attacks as much as much as you can!"

Kiwi saw the attack coming towards her, and she tired her best to move out of the way, but the attack hit one of her wings. She would wobble as she flew until she lost control and ran into a tree.

As Tori watched as Kiwi ran into the tree, she would let out a scream, "Kiwi!" Emotions that she did not like began to build up in her. Tori dropped her bag from her shoulder and started to run after Kiwi. She looked around the area of the tree and saw Kiwi knocked out on the ground. Carefully she picked Kiwi up and held her close. "You did great Kiwi." Tori smiled happily and walked back towards her bag. "Look's like you won again." She smiled and nodded to Kaji.

Kaji smiled back at her, scratching his head. "Yea.. sorry for being so rough." He said chuckling a bit as he switched his attention to Rei "Rei! Make your way back to me!" he smiled as he tool a piece of cloth out of his pocket.

The Pikachu looked over to him smiling and crookedly walked. Once it approached him Rei was picked up.

"Good job Rei, you did great!" he said as he rubbed the dirt out of her eyes with the cloth. When he was finished the Pokemon let out a squeal of joy and hopped atop his shoulder. "You'll win one day, soon that Pidgy will become Pidgetto and soon after Pidgot which will no doubt become faster then Rei. Just a matter of time."

"I know I'll beat you some day! That's why I'm not worried." Tori used a hand to pull down her bottom eye lid and stick her tongue out. "So, Kaji.." She picked up her bag and placed it on her shoulder. She then looked over at him and blushed. "What are we going to do now?" As she asked him, she tilted her head some and started to pet Kiwi lightly.

As Tori looked at Kaji, her stomach started to develop butterflies and her heart began to skip beats. A deeper blush formed on her face, to where she had to look away. I hope he didn't see that!!

"Pidgey, it's ok, shake it off!" Brian called to his pokemon. "Tackle!" He said, and Pidgey swooped at Pikachu in a bird kind of tackle, knocking the electric pokemon over.

Pikachu hopped back onto it's feet. The attack hadn't done much damage. "Pikachu, hit with another Thundershock!" Train commanded, and Pikachu sent a blast of electricity at the Pidgey once again.

This time, though, Brian was a bit more prepared. "Pidgey, try and dodge it!" He said, and Pidgey manuvered out of the way, flying into the air for a few seconds, then landing again. "Ok, now, use Gust!" Brian told his pokemon. Pidgey flapped it's wings hard and sent a powerful blast of air at Pikachu.

Kaji looked proudly over to the pewter gym and started walking "I'm going to go issue a challenge to Brock of course." He started sprinting to gym.

Rei jumped off his shoulders and followed after "Pika!"

Kaji smiled still, before stopping his running pace at the door. He turned and waved back at Tori, the woman he loved and shouted out "Hurry Tori," he said before entering. Upon his entrance he noticed it was barren like rock, in fact, it was rock. "Hey, anyone here? Brock!? I issue you a challenge!" the fool-hardy boy called out

Rei didn't look to confident however, it was a reasonable reaction to the rock. "Pika...pii..."
